Drinks & Nightlife

Called Funky Claude's because it's named after the founder of the Montreux Jazz Festival, Claude Nobbs. Rather upscale and chic, not cheap but a memorable experience.

Sightseeing

Chateau de Chillon, the #1 tourist spot in all of Switzerland and one of the most famous castles/fortresses in Europe. This is an absolute MUST see if coming to Montreux. Best way to get there is to walk along the lakefront sidewalk from Montreux, to see the thousands of flowering plants, but there is also a train or bus if rushed or not physically up to the walk.

Chaplin's World is a brand new multi-media museum that was developed in the former estate of Charlie Chaplin, who moved to Vevey from the US. It's getting very good reviews and there's a lot to see. Highly recommended, esp of course for film history buffs.

Parks & Nature

Directly in back of Montreux is one of the most beautiful mountain gorges/hiking trails in Switzerland. The trail starts in Montreux's old town and winds up the mountain, where one can stop off at any number of villages for magnificent views of the lake and mountains.

The Alimentarium. This is an interesting 'living' museum all about food and is associated with Nestle International, whose HQ is just down the street here in Vevey, Nestle is by far the largest food company in the world. One can have a meal here too and you get to take home the recipes of the food choices you make.

Shopping

Montreux's mall, including a nice Italian restaurant on the ground floor by the lake called Molino's (with terrace), a lovely tea room on the top floor (wine, tea/coffee, sandwiches, salads, desserts) with great lake views, 3 floors of stores, McDonalds, a large grocery store called Migros, and paid parking garage.

I go to the Migros in Clarens because there's free parking and it's just as close to my apt as the Montreux Migros. If no car, then just go to the Montreux Migros in the Forum.

Essentials

I prefer this Migros because it's as close to my apt but free parking for 1 hour; smaller, less crowded Migros.
