The Pig Hotel, Bridge (5 mins by car) and (1 hr walk) is a fantastic local hotel but mainly known for it’s exquisite restaurant serving home-grown produce and local specialities. Relaxed restaurant with a real buzz about it. They also have a pizzeria serving delicious pizzas and salads - outdoor and set within their beautiful vegetable gardens. A real treat to wander around! Highly recommended.

Cider and wine! Kentish Pip cider was launched in 2014 is now a leading craft cider business that has collected numerous awards. Woolton wine is produced exclusively from their own small vineyard and we sell still white wines and sparkling wines at our shop. Famous locally and further afield for their cider and from Spring to Autumn they are open to the public in their fabulous barn and outdoor eating areas. Another uniquely different place to stop after walking/cycling. Their range of ciders are just what you need after a long walk or cycle. Again, the Kentish Pip can be visited on foot or by car and we have walking routes at the hut for you to use. It’s an hour and a 1/2 walk (one way) or a 30 minute bike ride (10 mins in the car).

Fabulous evening out but recommend a taxi both ways (20 mins) and will cost you around £15 each way. Talk to us nicely and if were free we’ll drop you there. Book a table with a view...perfect of you’re a fish lover but alternatives available too. “Rocksalt is the littoral culinary kingdom of Mark Sargeant of Claridge's fame. A microcosm of London sophistication in gritty Folkestone, it's a genuine dining destination. The recent addition of four bedrooms above "Sargey's" adjacent Smokehouse enables visitors to abandon themselves to gluttony”. (Telegraph) https://www.rocksaltfolkestone.co.uk

Favourite with locals is this wonderful Mexican restaurant by the Westgate Towers in Canterbury. 2 sittings on weekend nights as it gets very busy so please ring ahead and book a table. Then retire to The Pound bar right opposite! After that you’ll need a taxi home! https://cafedez.com

Shopping

Our local shop! And what a local..... You can find most everyday essentials in store from Heinz baked beans to Kellogg’s cereals through to toilet rolls. It only stocks quality brands rather than own label. If you are looking for something a little different they also stock a selection of speciality fine foods. Not just about big brands, they love local! You can find locally baked bread, eggs, honey and juices from around the corner, yogurts and cream from the Elham Valley and cards and gifts from Barham crafters and businesses. The shelves are stacked with products from Kent food producers.

A plethora of independent shops, cafe’s etc Canterbury’s King’s Mile, a collection of streets nestling beneath the spires of Canterbury’s ancient Cathedral and alongside the King’s School, is a haven for anyone seeking the taste and feel of real Canterbury. The ‘independent quarter’ includes historic Sun Street, Palace Street, Guildhall Street, Orange Street, named after William of Orange, The Borough, and Northgate, formerly a gate to the walled city.

Simpsons Wine Estate is literally across the road! Charles and Ruth Simpson migrated back to the UK in 2014 after establishing Domaine Sainte Rose in the Languedoc region 16 years ago. They brought our expertise and savoir-faire back to the UK establishing Simpsons Wine Estate in Barham, Kent, with an aspiration to create the finest quality Method Traditional English sparkling wine. Roots were laid down amidst the pristine beauty of the Elham Valley - an unspoilt seam in the North Downs of Kent where the contours of the land, the climate and the soil could scarcely be improved upon for viticulture. The Simpsons' vineyards occupy glorious positions on the sunny, sheltered slopes of the North Downs of Kent, protected from the whimsy of the English climate by ancient woodland and anchored in the iconic chalky soils so highly revered in the world of both still and sparkling wine. You can book an Experience here (please see their website as to when these will take place) where you can visit the vines, have an informative talk and finally a tasting in their wonderful ‘Glass House’ tasting room. https://simpsonswine.com
