La Macarena is one of the most interesting and bohemian neighbourhoods of Bogotá. It attracts also a lot of visitors from other parts of the city due to its rich night and cultural life. There are numerous restaurants, art galleries and pubs. You also find parks, supermarkets, museums, banks, cinemas only some footsteps away. I suggest you to try out a typical popular Colombian lunch (corrientazo) at the popular market La Perseverencia only two minutes away from my home.

La Macarena is situated in the city centre, which to my point of view is the most interesting part of Bogotá. Here, in the centre, the modern and the folkloric, the rich and the poor Colombia converge. In taxi you are in 5 minutes (no traffic jam included) at the main square of Bogotá, the Plaza Bolivar, where the presidential palace and the other political institutions of the country are situated. In only a stroll, you will pass by emerald miners sell their green diamonds and get to know the site where the popular politician Jorge Eliecer Gaitán was assassinated in the year 1948 which started a large scale civil war.
