Tarifa Located at the southern tip of the Iberian peninsula, and just 1 hour 15 mins from the villa, a trip to Tarifa never fails to impress. Tarifa has something for EVERYONE. Playa de Los Lances or Valdevaqueros are wide, soft sandy beaches, perfect for relaxing. There is also the chance to try kite surfing in the kite surfing mecca or simply the opportunity to explore the historic old town and Guzman castle. Don't forget the whale and dolphin watching, detailed further along in guidebook (under heading Firmm). One highly recommended restaurant within the old town is La Favela. +34 686 41 27 85 https://www.lafavelatarifa.com/ https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g315918-d12574483-Reviews-La_Favela_Food_Drink-Tarifa_Costa_de_la_Luz_Andalucia.html Amongst the numerous beach restaurants, Chiringuito Cabones 13 is well-located for Playa de Los Lances (a little out of the town centre) and consistent. +34 956 79 99 39 https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g315918-d10700993-Reviews-Chiringuito_Carbones_13-Tarifa_Costa_de_la_Luz_Andalucia.html Hotel Arte Vida on Valdevaqueros beach is the perfect location for “sundowners" or dinner after a day in Tarifa or Bolonia. Ronda Mountaintop town in Malaga province that’s set above a deep gorge. The gorge (El Tajo) separates the city’s circa-15th-century new town from its old town, which dates to Moorish rule. A stone bridge called Puente Nuevo, spans the gorge, and there are stunning views from different view points. Churches, museum, bull ring, baths, and restaurants overlooking the stunning gorge. A 1 hour 10 mins hour drive from the villa, given winding roads, but really worthwhile.  Alternatively, take train from Algeciras La Linea to Ronda - saves on winding roads but takes longer (ar you need to drive to La Linea to catch the train) . The route up to Ronda is very picturesque, as the track on which the train runs was originally constructed in Victorian times and traverses picturesque rocky mountains en route to Ronda.

White Towns - The White Towns of Andalusia are a series of towns and large villages in the north of the provinces of Cádiz and Málaga in southern Spain. The villages are characterised by whitewashed walls and brown tiled roofs. These towns are an easy day-trip type of visit, generally offering in some cases hiking, rock-climbing, cycling and in some cases (Casares) a castle or museum to visit, not to mention the stunning vistas, and local cuisines. Amongst my favourites, Casares (Castle, museum and nature walk with guaranteed spotting of vultures), Grazalema, Zahara de la Sierra and Vejer de la Frontera, which really comes alive in the early evening!

Whale watching is possible in the Straits of Gibraltar, particularly during the months of June through August and sometimes into early September. Dolphins, and at some points, orcas, can also be seen. The foundation FIRMM is committed to the protection of marine mammals and their fragile habitat. Book ahead of time. This is an absolutely incredible trip. Tip: take the earliest boat, as parking in Tarifa is tricky later in the day. FIRMM +34 956 627 008 https://www.firmm.org/en/foundation

Bolonia is a coastal village just 22.9 km west of Tarifa. The ruins of the Roman town of Baelo Claudia are located near the beach, considered to be the most complete Roman town ruins yet uncovered in Spain. Accompanying these incredible ruins, there is a free museum, which sheds light on the rich history of this area. Easiest chiringuitos to eat at, are a short distance from the ruins: http://restauranteoterobolonia.com/ or Bahia de Bolonia https://www.facebook.com/bahiade.bolonia/ +34 956 68 85 34 - There isn’t much difference in the quality of menu, and both are busy during summer months, so book ahead.

Estepona A 15 minute drive to the west from the villa brings you to the lovely coastal town of Estepona. While parts of the sea front are more modern, the old town is extremely cute and houses some wonderful little tapas bars. The port area, at the far end, culminates in a child-friendly beach, Playa del Cristo, which boasts a shallow, sandy beach in a protected (by old harbour wall) cove, with limited impact from tide, and two pleasant chiringuitos. La Bulla Gastrobar - labullagastrobar - the best and most innovative presentation of fresh tuna, located on the seafront in Estepona. Otherwise, tapas at La Casa Del Rey - lacasadelreyestepona - is also delicious. No trip to Estepona is complete without a walk around Plaza de las Flores and the restaurants in and around the square.

Granada - in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, Granada is well known for grand examples of medieval architecture dating to the Moorish occupation, especially the Alhambra. The majestic fortress and it's stunning gardens stand proud above the city, a testament to the rich history of the area. But, there is just so much more to do in Granada, and it's all best done out of the heat of summer sun. Book ahead for access to the Alhambra, due to popularity; walking tours around the neighbourhoods of Sacromonte and Albaycin by day or by night; the Basilico De San Juan De Dios; Arabian Baths experience at the Hammam al Andalus; Flamenco night, nestled in the old town, up the winding, flower-lined stairways. Granada is somewhere to stay for a night. Cars are tricky so find a hotel with a car park.

Unforgettable gorge-side walk. Views are spectacular. Guided or unguided (at your own pace). Can be done with children age 8 and up -- passport details are needed to prove age! About and hour and 15 mins drive from the house. Book the car park and bus transfers ahead of time. Eat at El Mirador afterwards -- brilliant value and a wonderful view over the lake. Visit the lake (near restaurant El Kodiak) after the walk.

Puerto Banus 15 mins drive east of the villa, Puerto Banus is a lively coastal town with a BIG nightlife. Amongst the highlights of any visit is a quick walk through the port area, with it’s gargantuan boats and high end bespoke sports cars. The restaurants and bars along the port front (primera linea) are mixed in terms of quality and price. The cheapest, and one of the most popular is Picasso Pizza, for which queues often stretch several hundred metres. Details of preferred restaurants follows later. The street behind primera linea is lined with bars and is generally the focal point of stag and hen parties. The impressively large department store, El Corte Ingles, is another highlight of a trip into Puerto Banus. With two generous floors of fashion for both ladies and men, and a sports department to be envied, the summer sale is a great time to visit. Opposite El Corte Ingles, a more manageable-sized shopping centre is home to Zara, H&M, Massimo Dutti and many others. In & around Puerto Banus Noto - Italian with a twist. Simple restaurant with takeaway service. notorestaurant Vovem - grill - Avenida duque de ahumada 9 - Best steak we have had in Marbella. Not a huge restaurant but lovely. vovemasador La Sala - A long-standing live music, dinner and dance place, this restaurant has a reliable menu, and live music every night of the year - it seems - and is NEVER empty. Good for late night drinks also, and people watching. lasalabanus Breathe - Gastrobar and restaurant - a recent new addition has really taken the green and leafy oasis to the next level. The bar up top is a must before a meal for the views. At the port Our favourite Italian - Carpaccio - primero linea of harbour at Puerto Banus. carpacciobanus Los Banditos - Primo Linia Puerto Banus. Very nice, very popular restaurant. Picasso Pizza - often has a 50 m queue, mainly due to lower prices, big pizzas and friendly staff.

San Pedro de Alcántara Situated just 10 minutes drive east of the house, San Pedro is a local gem for several reasons, not least its burgeoning selection of restaurants, long stretch of beach, complete with promenade that runs as far as Marbella, but also for the BEST ice cream ever. San Pedro has a local market in the upper part of the town, on Thursday mornings, which can be fun to visit. There is a bike hire shop (Base bikes), and a lovely, recently renovated pedestrian shopping area, spotted with trendy cafes. Finally, for the youngest guests, there is an extensive play park built on the San Pedro Boulevard - the beautifully landscaped strip of land above the San Pedro tune (A-7). Benisty - recent find. Avenida de la mediteraneo - really good steak (with Gorgonzola is great!) and fish. Soto has a vast array of different restaurants, from the utterly gorgeous Cancha Dos (asadorcancha2)- nestled like an undiscovered diamond amongst two polo pitches to the Andrew Martinesque cool of Trocadero (grupotrocadero) where the Salted Seabass is not to be missed.
