Sight seeing
There's so many cool things to do up here in the Grand Traverse area. Here's a few of them. Northern Michigan’s iconic Tunnel of Trees is not just a fall colors destination—there’s lots of four-season fun to be had along M119. Our scavenger hunt, created in tandem with the April issue of Traverse, Northern Michigan’s Magazine, will take you on an adventure through the winding roads of Emmet County. Pack a picnic, your walking shoes, and let’s go!
There are beautiful gardens and trails throughout the old state hospital grounds fondly known as the Grand Traverse Commons. This barn was part of the complex that gave patients purpose and at one time supported the largest herd of cattle this side of the Mississippi.
Gardens include the Secret Garden and the Fire Garden. Lovely calm place.

I’ve done a ton of weddings here and besides great views in the middle of huge old oaks and maples the food is delicious. From good ol’ basic burgers or fish in the Jolly Pumpkin to fancy fare including whitefish pate and local wine and beer be sure to stop here on your way up the Peninsula. Be sure to ask for the resident ghost story from your server.
