“You can’t drive to Whittier without going through the tunnel. North America’s longest tunnel at 2.5 miles. It is shared with the railroad and has scheduled vehicle usage. Check schedule on website.”

“This is one of the most beautiful day trip hikes in Whittier! Since the trail starts in Whittier you'll have to coordinate your time with the tunnel travel. You can find the tunnel times online. This trail has a beautiful view for the short distance up! You can either determine to go to the top and down to the glacial lake, or just take in the scenery. In mid summer this is a spectacular spot for blueberry picking. ”

“If you find yourself traveling through the longest combined motor vehicle and train tunnel in North America, stop and sample the fudge in this quaint family run business. The children of the family run this shop to pay for their college education. I’m not a huge fan of fudge myself but I am a fan of local businesses and of developing a work ethic in our youth. I always stop and buy some fudge to gift to my friends and family who do love this sweet confection, they all give it a 👍🏻! ”

“Make sure you go prepared, the tunnel opens on the half hour to go to Whittier and on the hour to leave Whittier. There is a toll for using the tunnel but the toll coves your round trip. I always make sure to have Disney’s, “It’s a Small World” ready to play during the ride. I explain to my two sons that this tunnel ride is just as good as going to Disney. (This is met with eye rolls. They don’t think I’m funny.)”

“The best fried local caught shrimp and halibut in Alaska. This wonderful restaurant is located in Whittier. It is about a 1.5 hour drive south to the Whittier tunnel entrance. You may have a bit of a wait at the tunnel before they allow traffic to drive the one way road through it to Whittier. If your don't want to bother with driving you can take the train to Whittier.”
