“Aiming for a more 'up market' feel, the Salt House Kitchen serves an interesting and frequently-changing menu, with sea-food playing a big role. Think Sea Reared Trout with Curried Mussels, or Steak with Beetroot-infused Octopus. A three course meal is likely to be around £35-£40 per head, excluding drinks.”

“For a busier night out start here in Revolution and then go on to any of the dozens of other bars in this area of the city. This is the nightlife hotspot area of Sunderland which is a great night out!”

“Flying the flag for Asian cuisine, the Fat Buddha is a popular bar and restaurant in the area. It overlooks the beach to the east, so is best enjoyed in Summer months, or in the afternoon. Another good venue for a celebration; it's open late and has a fairly up-beat atmosphere. The cocktails are definitely worth a try - the lychee martini is especially tasty! Service can be inconsistent, and be prepared to get your elbows out if you're out for a few drinks on a Bank Holiday!”

“Situated in the Roker Hotel this spacious coffee shop serves a generous afternoon tea as well as a good selection of sandwiches, confections and coffee, and fizz! Being part of the hotel they are open for breakfast from 6am (weekdays) and 7am at weekends with the usual, but still delicious variety on offer. Sunday Dinner is a reasonable Two Courses for just under £12, or an extra £2 to make it Three! ”

“Amazing coffee, freshly baked bread, home-made cakes and sandwiches, and once a month artisan doughnuts. This little cafe is small but perfectly formed, and the staff are super friendly. ”
