  • We can't say enough good things about our stay at Dunskey! Our expectations were high going in based on the pictures and it managed to exceed all our hopes! We were married here, on a cliff overlooking the sea, it was idyllic. All of the rooms were wonderfully spacious and well appointed. Great times hanging out with our families in the gigantic kitchen, and chatting over cocktails, coffee and desserts in the library with a roaring fire. The grounds were great for hiking, the hedge maze was fun for everyone, and the scones and jam in the cafe were some of the best we had on our trip to Scotland! Anne and Alastair were very helpful, available and ready to cater to our every whim, and served us a fantastic brunch on our wedding day. Thank you again Anne, for letting us into your beautiful home (or at least that "small" part of it) and helping us to celebrate our special day. We look forward to coming back someday!

  • A fantastic retreat in the middle of beautiful Scottish countryside. Very spacious inside and out. I thoroughly recommend a dip in the locks or in the sea, and then warm up back in the house in front of a roaring fire!

  • We loved staying at Dunskey Castle. Our group of 15 went to Dunskey estate for a pre-wedding party weekend, and it was the perfect venue. There was plenty of space, the castle was well equipped and the grounds are perfect for group activities. I would definitely recommend staying here. The surrounding areas are beautiful, we visited the beach and the lighthouse, all of the hosts directions were very thorough.

  • The Dunskey Estate is just amazing! It much exceeded our expectations - the pictures don't give the place justice! We rented out an entire wing for 18 people and had a wonderful time hiking around the area during the day (the sea is just a 30 minutes walk away) and sitting by the fire in the evenings. The spacious dining room was a perfect setting for our murder mystery game ;) The kitchen was big enough to cook for 18 people and had everything that we needed for cooking. Anne and her family and friends were very welcoming and helpful and ensured our stay was very pleasant. We wishes we could stay for much longer. We would definitely recommend this place!

  • Nicola and Brendan were fantastic hosts with a lovely Airbnb room for us to stay in. They were great in communicating with us. The room was clean and cosy and the whole house was lovely. Breakfast looked incredible but unfortunately we had to rush off as we had an early morning ferry, although Brendan had offered to serve it for us extra early.

  • Kathleen directions were perfect as was our sat nav. The pod was lovely and clean with Kathleen explaining everything we needed to know. Only complaint much better suited to twin bed and not the double as it made it difficult to get through the door. Overall a good nights stay for our early morning ferry crossing.

  • Kathleen was very friendly and welcoming. Her place was not easy to found, because I wasn't aware our accomodation was part of a camp site. I needed a little time to realize that :-). I could be helpful to mentioned that on the air b and be profile.

  • Our stay in the cabin was amazing, Kathleen and Rob were really kind. They offered to pick us up at the station when we arrived. They explain all of the nice places to see around, how to get there, walking or by bus. They even printed the bus's timetables for us. They did everything so our stay there would be just about relaxing and enjoying. The cabin was really clean with free coffee and tea, anything that you need to cook a little bit. The facilities are very clean as well. Thank you again for having us during those few days!

    Estelle2016-05-26T00:00:00Z
  • It was a lovely experience staying in the pod at Kath's and Rob's camp site. Kath was a great host, waiting at the gate to welcome us, and at pains to show us all the amenities and explain local sites of interest. She and Rob have a very well-run and thoughtfully equipped site that we'd heartily recommend. Geoff and Dee

    Geoff2017-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a comfortable stay in the camping pod with everything we needed, including sockets for charging our phones which was a pleasant surprise. The campsite is in a gorgeous location and is a great hub for exploring this wonderful part of Scotland- and even Ireland if it takes your fancy. The bags of firewood and kindling for sale were a welcome addition to our supplies and we enjoyed a roaraing fire under the night sky. Pitches are fairly close together so ask for one at the far ends if you want a little more privacy or isolation. Thanks!

  • Ann and Peter were great hosts. The hayloft was well equipped and very comfortable. I stayed with my 80 year old father and he loved the place as did I. The location is perfect. It is one mile out of town so is very quiet but close enough to Stranraer to have quick access to shops. The hayloft was very clean. I look forward to a future visit.

  • A beautiful cottage on a beautiful estate. Rose Blair cottage is very private, well presented and full of a mixture of new and antique furniture, paintings, candles and flowers from the estate, all adding to a characterful stay. Fresh scones and jam on arrival, yum! The walk through the glen to the beach is magical. The area offers fantastic coastal walks and Portpatrick is a pretty harbour village with good pubs.

  • Beautiful isolation, so peaceful yet so much to do should you wish! V relaxing stay in a great little cottage...

  • Hidden gem. Fantastic cottage with breathtaking scenery all within short walking distance. Couldn't fault the hosting either and felt very at home.

  • A lovely cottage for those looking for a peaceful location. If you are looking for a more active excursion, there are fantastic walking routes beginning right on the doorstep.

    Alan2017-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Difficult to know where to begin... This was our best airbnb experience yet! Rose Blair cottage is a beautiful old house nestled in an enchanted forest. Super-soft beds with plush comforters make you want to sleep in late, but outside, there are miles of trails through that magical forest. And, a fantastic beach just a short and scenic walk away! The hosts are as gracious and welcoming as they come. It was a great introduction to Scotland for us. We'll be back!

    Christopher2016-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is far down a country lane, nestled in the woods and atop a glen overlooking a sandy beach. It is truly idyllic. A serene and secluded space to get away from it all. Also, there are deer.

    Adrian2017-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a fantastic time at Rose Blair Cottage. The location was fantastic, exactly what we were looking for. Relaxing long weekend away with plenty of local walks, seaside villages near by and a beautiful homely cottage. Fresh flowers and homemade scones were a lovely touch - Anne made us feel very welcome.

    Hayleigh2016-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Blair cottage. It is really lovely and the location could not have been better for us. It is a quiet setting, but only a mile in either direction to gardens and teashop and the beach! Anne was great at making sure we enjoyed our stay and the creme brûlée on arrival was such a nice and delicious touch. Only suggestion would be better sign posts to the cottage as you have to drive down a road that says no vehicle access, which was not clear. Would definitely recommend and would use again!

Very reasonable. The facilities were excellent everything was clean, well-kept and there was on-site parking. The ferry harbor was very close.

  • Ice House Cottage is set in an exceptional location, on the edge of a Scottish estate. It's an extremely comfortable cottage, decorated in elegant and traditional style - I very much wanted the mahogany press in the main bedroom to come home with me! The cake which was left to welcome us was one of the best I've ever eaten - a mocha cake filled with coffee cream. The garden was secluded and pretty, and the walks into the castle gardens were a particular highlight of the stay. Beyond the castle, the Galloway coast is beautiful - with a range of things to do ranging from National Trust properties to second-hand books in Wigtown, to coastal walks, to clay shooting. A three-day-long Monopoly game in front of a roaring wood fire made the rainy parts of each day into a pleasure. Thanks so much to all the team at the castle. We loved our stay.

  • Anne was out on our arrival but did message me to say the key would be in the door, fortunately, Peter was there to greet us and show us the cottage. We met Anne later and was welcomed warmly. The cottage ( stable) is lovely, quaint, clean and comfortable. We had an unexpected extra night, which was not a problem for Anne at all. We found milk, cookies and tea/ coffee on arrival. A good size kitchen/lounge/ table area. The kitchen is well equipped with every thing you will need and more. We never locked the door the whole time we were there. The town is a few miles down the road if needs be for a quick trip to Liddell, Tesco or Morrison's. All in all, we had a lovely stay with lovely welcoming hosts who seemed more than happy to have us. My family and I can't wait for the new cottages to be completed so we can visit again and lounge in the new hot tub and pet the sheep !!

    Nikki2016-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • We found the place really easily, this was just what we were looking for. We were welcomed on arrival and shown round. A place to stay while we visited family nearby with plenty of room for our sons to enjoy. Very clean and tidy and the welcome pack was very handy. After a long drive from Aberdeen a cup of tea was great! Thank you so much to Anne & Peter.

    Jane2016-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Sited atop a high hill above Stranraer, you will have beautiful views of the town, harbor and great green and gold pastures. I highly recommend a walk up the road next to the cabins where a unique panorama is available. As this is self-catered, you will need to bring salt and pepper, catsup, mustard, salad dressing etc. There is some tea. Also there was milk in the refrigerator and some delightful cookies. Since I always travel with a bag of oatmeal and dried fruit, I was fine with milk and tea. Peter was a considerate and well-informed guide. He contributed substantially to my research for the 16th century novel I am writing. Port Patrick was a real find, but I would have had difficulty reaching it on my own.

    Catherine2016-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I came from Canada and had the most wonderful stay. Anne and Peter were so friendly and accommodating. I hope we can come back.

  • It was quiet and comfortable and yet very easily positioned to get everywhere we wanted to go to. Everything we needed. A lovely host, recommended by me and I have a sneaking suspicion I'll be back. Thank you.

  • Hosts were welcoming when we arrived and on hand if needed but not intrusive. The cottage is clean, well equipped and not far from shops and other amenities but yet far enough removed to be peaceful. The flowers, biscuits and milk are a pleasant touch. Would not hesitate to return and look forward to seeing their latest project finished-we'll book the hot tub! Thanks Anne!

    Mairi2016-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Anne gave us excellent direction in getting to The Stables, so despite arriving at nightfall, there was no problem finding the location. The home and its surroundings are very clean and well kept. A particularly thoughtful addition was that there was milk in the fridge and biscuits and bagels (and some other things) already in the home. We felt very comfortable throughout our two days and won't need to look further when we're next in the area - provided The Stables aren't booked out, of course! :-)

  • A wonderful stay at Coachmans cottage A warm cosy & comfortable dwelling to chill out at the end of the day in front of the log burner. The bedrooms are lovely with crisp cotton bedding , thick towels & comfy beds. Kitchen is well equipped& we had everything we could possibly need. Bathroom is modern with lovely deep bath & great shower. No end of hot water !! The welcome pack of red roses scones, eggs & jam were a lovely added extra. In addition to the gorgeous accommodation we were in the most magical of settings..woods, glens, waterfalls, seaside coves etc etc. A perfect opportunity to enjoy simple pleasures . Beach combing, a little bonfire on the beach & the walks are amazing. Portpatrick is beautiful & we would recommend the Crown for food. It doesn't look very inviting from the outside but we had a delicious meal in the restaurant at the rear. Amazing fish & seafood. The evening culminated with live music in the bar. A great night enjoyed by all. Another must is the trip to the Mull of Galloway. Amazing ! Our only disappointment was that the tea rooms on the estate were closed & that's my fault for not reading the blog !! We will remember next time & hope that won't be in the too distant future !

  • There are no words to describe the absolute charm and serenity of this magical property! The Coachman's Cottage was warm and comforting with plenty of room and comfortable beds. Anne went out of her way to help us find a last minute photographer for a hand-fasting ceremony. She answered questions quickly. We loved every minute of our stay. The grounds are breath-taking. We were charmed by the pheasants that wandered the grounds. We'll be back as soon as we can arrange it. I can't say enough about how much Dunskey Estates exceeded our expectations.

  • The house was as described and as in the photographs . The accommodation was very spacious . The bedrooms were very spacious and provided plenty of space for our two travel cots . There was lovely scones , jam fruit , and eggs in the accommodation for our arrival. The grounds and facilities are very family friendly . The small gift shop and tea room were very handy and staff friendly . A good location for exploring the surrounding area . Our family had a wide age 1-67 yrs including teenagers and all had a great holiday . Would recommend this accommodation and location . Anne was always quick to respond to any inquiries prior to our visit.

  • Absolutely stunning cottage in a fairytale estate. We enjoyed daily strolls to the lakes within the estate, and many trips to the on site tearoom and maze. The cottage itself has everything you need, we were delighted to find a high chair and brand new travel cot. There are 3 spacious bedrooms, all beautifully decorated with nice fresh linen and towels. The scented candles and toiletries in each room are a lovely touch. We arrived to complimentary fresh eggs, scones and jam :) Portpatrick is a short car journey away, we enjoyed two days on the small but lovely beach with our children. Also ate there everynight. On site tea room is lovely, cakes and lunches delicious. If you are looking for a relaxing getaway with a special magical feel, this is the place. We were also the first to use the new bathroom, shower is great x

Newly upgraded Glen Cottage with mid century furniture and soft white beddings. Located in the midst of a secluded glen walk, surrounded by trees and a babbling brook, steps away from two private beaches, a waterfall and amazing coastal cliffs.
Situated above two small bays at the foot of Dunskey Glen amid unique surroundings. It is the ideal holiday home for a family who like the seclusion of the countryside as well as the sea on their doorstep. Glen Cottage has a spacious kitchen, one bathroom, a large living room, a master bedroom with a double bed, and a second walk-through bedroom with three single beds. The living room comes with a fantastic fireplace, logs, colour TV and video. Well equipped kitchen with eating area, electric cooker and fridge, deep freeze, washing machine with tumble drier, dishwasher, microwave. Bathroom with shaver point, heated towel rail and shower. Water heated by immersion or back boiler. Night Store heaters throughout. Private water Supply. Unfenced lawn, picnic table. Car to door.
Portpatrick Village has a public tennis court, putting green, golf course, beaches, and many restaurants. It is a very family-friendly destination.
  • The beach cottage was a mixed experience for me. The home was older, heating didn't work, it was hard to find, and there was no cell service. At the same time, it was a beautiful location once we got to it, only a short walk from two beaches and about a thirty to forty minuet walk to town. Though outdated, the cottage had its own charm, and I found that sitting around the fireplace to keep warm brought me and my father closer as we sipped tea and had conversation. Overall, I would say that it is not the place for a business man like my father who needed to stay in contact with people and couldn't, but for me I found the stay was enjoyable as it gave almost a fancy camping like experience, without service and sitting around the fire. For me, it was a nice escape, but I do think it important to warn people who cell service and other amenities is crucial to. Also want to note that the host, Anne, was wonderful. She prepared a lovely meal for us and even arranged our dinner reservation and cab.

    Mekenzie2015-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Anne is friendly, helpful, and very keen to provide anything you need. The estate is breathtaking and so much to soak in and enjoy. The two beaches are beautiful and lots to explore there and along the coast; well signposted walks, rowing boats on the loch, really stunning walled gardens and restored glass houses (hot tip - picnic in there if it rains), Magda's famous coffee and cake... Or you can kick a ball about on the lawn. 2 minutes to Port Patrick which is also stunning and has a brill new kids park, fresh seafood in the many pubs and restaurants (plus we'd recommend the chip van which sources from a local fishmonger and butcher). The place is relatively remote - if you value phone reception and/or internet, check coverage for your provider before you go.

    Stuart2016-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Anne's cottage is amazing, simply wonderful! Everything was as expected, there was even some delicious homemade scones and jam waiting for us. The cottage is a two minute walk from two beaches, granted one is down a steep hill so be prepared to give your legs a work out! The area is beautiful, lots to explore.

    Francesca2016-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • The Cottage is in the most magic location, the glen is like someting out of a fairytale, the beach just seconds out the door with your own waterfall. The cottage has gorgeous furnishings and we had yummy scones on our arrival.

    Emma2017-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing place. Unique surroundings perfect for a real break from technology and city life. We had the most amazing rest. The scenery is unrivalled. And the little touches in the cottage like the eggs and chocolate cake make the long drive from London worthwhile.

    Erica2017-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Glen cottage was wonderful. The cottage is very cosy and comfortable. The beach is a 5 minute walk away and it's a half hour walk along the coast into Portpatrick. I brought my Westie Buddy who loved his stay - particularly his swim in the top loch! I would highly recommend Glen Cottage.

    Fiona2015-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Glen Cottage is in the most beautiful, magical setting. Right next to the beach, surrounded by woodland, wildlife and complete peace. Unfortunately the Cottage isn't in the same league. It is extremely damp and mouldy. The bathroom is so grotty, black mould around the bath and the sink, mouldy curtains and a mouldy shower curtain and the hot tap on the sink doesn't work. The kitchen isn't much better, the walls are very badly decorated, the hob on the cooker has no numbers or settings so you have no idea which ring you are using or how hot. The fridge leaks, the dishwasher is pre-historic, and the kitchen cupboards are lined with old flooring. When we stripped the bed my sons duvet had dried blood all over it. Sorry to grumble, if you get it cheap it's worth it for the amazing setting, but we payed over a £100 a night, and i feel well and truely done. We have stayed in other holiday let's and I co-host on air bnb, I would never let the property's I co-host in this state and I have never paid that much money for a Cottage and ever had anything this bad. Sorry.

Thank you very much Tessa! We loved how cosy you had made the hut. We both can't wait to come back down - in hopefully better weather - to further explore the garden!
