  • This was the perfect location for a quiet weekend getaway for the two of us. Small-but-functional kitchen was enough to make a great dinner for two; the heat and water pressure in the shower was GREAT; and the quiet of the woods was just what we were looking for.

    Will2017-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is rustic as she had described but that is what makes it unique. She was very helpful with information prior to our coming and made it clear just where we could find her if we needed to.

  • Our goals for our weekend in West Virginia were to cross country ski, spend cherished time together as a Mom with her three daughters in their 20s, eat and drink, laugh and reconnect with Vicki, the owner of this cozy log cabin. We did all of it and had the best time. Vicki is a gracious hostess, the cabin is historic and rustic, and the location is within a reasonable drive from our home in Washington, DC. Vicki also owns a new general store in Wardensville so it was fun to catch up and be inspired. Cross country skiing at the White Grass touring center was another 1.5 hours drive west and not with much snow but we enjoyed exploring around Davis and Thomas, towns with breweries, art galleries and good eats. Thanks so much Vicki and good luck with everything.

    Cindy2016-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Vicki's cabin was fantastic! Very cozy and cute with all the necessary amenities. My girlfriend and I used the weekend to go hiking in the Shenandoah National Park and George Washington National Forest as well as visit a brewery and winery. As we were slow-moving our last morning, Vicki was flexible in our checkout time. We had a great time and I would love to bring a group of friends to rent both cabins some time!

    Ryan2016-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • We came out to Wardensville for a chance to unplug and relax, and this cabin was more than anything we had hoped for: cozy, spacious, and quiet. Vicki provided us with ample information about the surrounding area, and we fell in love with it. We absolutely hope to be back sometime soon!

    Tyler2017-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • I was delayed arriving due to the storm so Vicki had all the lights on so I would have a good arrival, even if it was in early morning hours. Cabin was as expected and very relaxing and in a nice setting.

    Bob2016-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay in the log cabin. The inside is modest but it was very restful. The great thing about the cabin is that it is located nearby very good hiking trails in the National Forest or in the Lost River State Park with spectacular views.

  • We had a wonderful experience in the country at this historic country home. It was a great escape away from the city. We especially loved seeing the animals!

  • My friends and I stayed at the Holstein Home for new years. We were going for a more relaxed trip away from the city and it definitely exceeded our expectations! The house is an older, traditional farmhouse with a cozy feel to it. To start off we had three cars so it was great that there was enough space for parking. It was also very neat and well-equipped for most of what we needed from cookware to bath towels. Anything that the house was not able to provide, Samantha kindly let us know ahead of time (i.e. charcoal for the small grill outside). Samantha was wonderful as a host all around. She was always reachable via text message/email/phone call and made sure we felt most comfortable during our stay. She even helped find small personal belongings we had left behind after the trip! I would recommend this home to anyone looking for a peaceful and quiet getaway!

    Michelle2017-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was wonderful! Samantha already had the house ready and open for us and was readily available if we needed her. The home had everything you needed and Samantha even included brochures for the surrounding area attractions. After a long day of hiking and zipling, it was nice to come back to a beautiful home, cook dinner, and relax. I would definitely stay here again!

    Amber2016-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at Samantha's! It was beautiful, cozy, and perfect for a nice getaway. She was easy to communicate with, and super informative. Will definitely stay again.

  • The host canceled this reservation 58 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.

    Rita2017-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • We all loved this place and master bedroom was matter price. Samantha was really nice and very good host. As the name suggest it was an complete hideaway from busy schedule and busy city.

    sathish2016-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Holstein Hideaway was unique and relaxing and it was easy to coordinate with Samantha. It is spacious and cozy farmhouse with plenty of charm right on the property -- my kids spent a lot of time with two friendly donkeys and fishing on the pond. The rooms are large and comfortable, plenty of blankets and towels, there are multiple tvs and a diverse DVD library, and a couple of bins of childrens toys. The house is on a main road -- though not a busy one -- which makes it easy to get in and out. It's a quick drive to a chain grocery store or farmstands and easy to get to local attractions. And the owner even has her own business that will deliver staples to the property. There is a lot of helpful info on the Holstein Hideaway website. We really enjoyed our stay -- thanks Samantha!

    Gregory2016-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • We were a group of 5 friends who stayed at Samantha's for one night. Excellent place which is old (built in the 1800s) but very comfortable. It also has goats, donkeys, and chicken so it's a cool getaway close to DC. Samantha was very friendly and helped us settle in. We would love to go back there soon!

    Star Tannery, Virginia, Stati Uniti

90 miles from DC on 20 acres just west of the Shenandoah Valley, this comfortable home has beautiful views, wraparound porches (private decks off the 2 bedrooms), central air/heat, up-to-date appliances, and a gas "wood" stove. No TV; good WIFI, monitor available. Flexible arrival/departure times extend your stay. Fishing, hunting, swimming, hiking, civil war battlefields, reenactments, antiquing nearby. Perfect for families & nature lovers.
The pond is for swimming and fishing as well as charm. It is only 6 feet deep at its lowest point (near the center) so can be warm in the hottest weather. Beyond a narrow strip of sand the bottom is muddy, so swim shoes are recommended. Floats and fishing poles are in the basement near the double doors. I am not a fisherman, so equipment is rudimentary, but there are a couple poles with line, and nearby convenience stores have bait. 2 Kayaks, paddles under side porch. Life jackets in basement along with a crossover bike (helmet, basket, air pump) and croquet set.
Kids will enjoy the small "farm" (walking distance, left out of the driveway) to see the animals: pigs, goats, cow, many chickens. If our small pond doesn't meet your needs, there's kayaking/swimming/tubing on the North Fork of the Shenandoah nearby (directions in booklet at the house) as well as at the Trout Pond Recreation Area in nearby West Virginia.
  • Susan's place is absolutely charming and she provides very detailed information. We had an Excellent time.

    Frederic2017-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • Susan's place was perfect! We loved the open kitchen for cooking while listening to music and enjoying each other's company, the multiple porches where we heard all kinds of beautiful bird calls, the property for peaceful walks, the comfy beds and lovely bathrooms. It felt like an oasis! We hope to return!

    Lauren2017-04-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great place for relaxing & clearing your head ..Less than hour drive to some really good hikes (we did old rag :) )

    Robin 2017-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • Susan's place was truly relaxing and a wonderful escape from the city. We had one day of lovely weather and took advantage of Susan's local hiking tips to see some wonderful fall colours. Unfortunately the second day was rainy but Susan's house was warm, cozy and very inviting. There is plenty of room and it is kid friendly! Check-in was a breeze and Susan was very response to our queries in the lead up to our trip. We will return again.

    David2017-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful home and a great host. I cannot wait to go back. This is such a great value. The house is beautifully decorated, very comfortable, and very well equipped. The bathroom upstairs is a dream!

    Eva2017-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a DC getaway I think you should consider this option. Like everyone else seems to agree, Susan's home is lovely. The house is beautiful and if I every built a house I would copy the design! The screened in porch was lovely to spend the day relaxing. We went up to Cedar Creek Vineyard and actually got two really nice bottles of wine. Susan is a great host! I hope you will enjoy it as much as we did.

    Neeru2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • My friends and I loves this place soooooo much. Everything in this little cute house reminds us of the beauty of life. Susan is very considerate and responsive. We really enjoyed our stay and I will definitely come back with my family some time in the future. Wonderful experience!

  • Susan was a wonderful host. She was very communicative prior to our arrival and the listing was exactly as described. A beautiful, open space set in a very tranquil spot. This is the perfect spot to relax and a quick trip if you are in the DC area. I would absolutely recommend and stay at this lovely little house in Star Tannery.

  • Wonderful, cute and quiet cabin. We had a lovely time just relaxing on the front porch or out by the fire. They have everything you need and I was never stressed out the entire time we were there. If you want a quiet and modern escape, this is it!

  • Three friends and I stayed a beautiful, secluded, and peaceful weekend at the Bungalow. It was thoroughly enjoyable, well equipped, and extremely clean and orderly. The kitchen was stocked with all the appliances you could possibly need (we grilled and cooked a lot during our time). Von and David are also very responsive and responded very quickly to each of our inquiries. Very accommodating and kind people, and I hope to stay there again!

    John2017-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I spent 3 days here and had a wonderful time! The area is secluded and peaceful, yet within short driving distance of quaint towns and nature options. The house was very nicely updated with a great outdoor space as well, making it a steal for its price. The hosts responded promptly to our questions and went the extra mile to make us feel relaxed and at home. We would definitely recommend Ms. Bessie's Bungalow for a peaceful, comfortable getaway!

    Conrad2017-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Von's place was exactly as pictured and offered more than we expected. With thoughtful touches like bluetooth speakers and drink coolers, and beer glasses already in the freezer, we wanted for nothing. It was clean and there were air conditioner units in both bedrooms so we could keep the temperature comfortable. Kitchen was beautiful and well stocked with nice cookware and dining ware. I wish we could stay in this house everywhere we go! Thank you Von and David, we loved our stay!

    Jordyn2017-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great little cabin with lots of luxuries! It rained for a majority of our trip so we really appreciated all of the details-- games, lots of TV channels, the incredible shower, and comfy beds. There isn't a lot to do in town unless it's a weekend, but plenty of outdoor spots to visit. We'll definitely go back!

    Maggie2017-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • The bungalow is a perfect getaway location!! The property is secluded enough that you are away from it all, but "town" is just 20 minutes away. The house is bright and cheerful, everything is super clean and new, and each room is full of gorgeous little touches - postcards and puzzles to keep you busy on a rainy day, delicious treats to welcome you upon arrival, information on the area and history. The porch and living room are cozy, the bed and bath linens luxurious, and the kitchen is well-equipped whether you want just your morning coffee or to make a full dinner. Thank you for a peaceful and beautiful visit!

    Nisha2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • This house was such a great getaway from DC. The home is beautiful and relaxing. We especially loved the outdoor area. Von was a great host.

  • As a professional cook, I spend a lot of time considering efficiency, proper preparation, and the right tools. With that in mind, I was so very pleased with the thoughtfulness, hospitality, and comfy style of Ms Bessie's Bungalow. 1. The outdoor spaces in this house are dreamy. The fire pit, grill, outdoor lights, and gorgeous porch (with wonderful fans to keep cool on humid afternoons) are enough to book this house. 2. The amenities at Ms Bessie's are thoughtful, thorough, and totally practical. We loved the outdoor games, comfortable furniture, tons of natural light, and functionality of the space. The space was clean, well kept, and accurately represented. 3. Communication was thorough and clear with Von and David---they happily answered questions, gave information, and offered support. Delightfully hospitable and clear communication. We loved our stay and would recommend this property to our closest friends and family. Ms Bessie's is a total gem. Thank you Von and David!

The Diamond House is a serene modern retreat deep in the woods of West Virginia on 23 acres, but still only 1.5 hrs from the D.C. area. The Diamond House has vaulted ceilings, hardwood floors, and is filled with windows that provide access to views that stretch for miles and natural light throughout the day. Amazing sunsets. A perfect retreat from the hustle of the city.
Designed by award-winning architect Aaron Poritz (poritzandstudio.com), the Diamond House is a modern, minimalist interpretation of a cabin in the woods. Just completed in 2016, the Diamond House was built facing the southwest so light pours in through varied-sized windows creating angles and shadows that reflect the house's unique, angular design. The open kitchen, living and dining room space upstairs is the perfect spot to gaze at the view over the Warden Lake valley. Downstairs bedrooms stay cool in the summer and open up on to a patio and garden.
Located in the Lost River area of WV. Filled with great country towns, beautiful mountains and valleys. There are farmers markets, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, fishing and access to multiple state parks and national forests and recreation areas. Don't miss out on bluegrass weekends at the local farmers market https://caponcrossing.com/bluegrass-in-the-barn/ And be sure to visit the best trading post in WV https://www.lostrivertradingpost.com/ Great Shenandoah valley vineyards make the trip out and back even more enjoyable.
  • My spouse and I had a stellar weekend. We were seeking a quiet getaway in the woods and between the views from the living space and downstairs rooms, time on the deck, and walks along the roads, we couldn’t have had a better time. The open and spacious structure of the house invites a calmness. The ladybugs were very minimal. We were glad to have come with groceries to have meals at the place more so because we didn’t feel the need to leave, but we did get some good espresso and scones in town one morning at the Lost River Trading Post. Internet is not super fast but it became another welcome welcome way for us to unplug. We would love to return for another weekend away one day!

    Katherine2017-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • Loved the secluded home. Sunsets were amazing.

    Robert Griffith (Griff)2017-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I had a wonderful time! Everything was great! We loved the quaint town of Wardensville, and the people we encountered at local businesses. We found some antique peices at a great price. It feels like the town is progressive. The house was absolutely beautiful... those windows at sunset... wow!! We hope to stay there again when the weather warms up. One minor thing that might help someone else during colder months, the lock on the gate was froze when we got there and we could not turn the key. We used a grill lighter and our hands to warm the lock up and within a couple minutes it had unfroze and we were able to turn the key. I would recommend this home to anyone looking for a modern place in the middle of the woods. You feel so secluded, it was such a nice break from the everyday hustle and bustle.

    Amber2018-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin was beautifully decorated, with an amazing view. We had fun there. Temperature in the mountain wasn't too cold and the heating system worked great so the stay was comfortable. Tiernan and Rachel were very responsive to any questions and their flexible check-ins and check-outs were really convenient too. No hassle in check in, No scurrying to get out in time etc. They also had wifi, which worked good for the most part. Definitely not as high-speed as in the cities but sending emails and watching netflix after a few minutes of loading was no problem. There were some bugs around the house at night (after all, it is the mountains) so if that's a problem for you, being some bug spray! :)

    Saera2017-11-20T00:00:00Z
  • Weekend at Tiernan and Rachel’s place was the perfect getaway. Very secluded, clean, modern home with fantastic view. Well-equipped kitchen, comfy beds and a nice shower. We were able to cook great meals, hiked Big Schloss in George Washington National Forest and went to hear bluegrass in the barn down the road on Saturday night. Highly recommend.

    Gabe2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Tiernan and Rachel were great hosts! Their cabin is the perfect place to get some privacy and relax! Would definitely rent again!

    Saman2018-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • The space was cozy, clean, and well-curated. The views were amazing, and although it would have been a fine stay without, the WiFi worked well. Had a great time at bluegrass in the barn nearby and got some delicious biscuits, vegan sausages, and hard cider at the Trading Post in town. Can’t wait to come back!

    Beth2017-11-12T00:00:00Z

Comfortable, impeccably designed modern home in the Shenandoah Mountains, 90 minutes west of Washington, D.C. Two bedrooms plus den, luxury bathrooms, gourmet kitchen, swimming pool, secret playroom, serene screen porch, and beautiful mountain views. Featured in the new book THE FAMILY CABIN. **SIX-GUEST LIMIT AND NO PETS: NO EXCEPTIONS**
This is a one-of-a-kind, architect-designed, energy-efficient, simple yet luxurious home that offers a solitary experience in a beautiful setting. The house is filled with books, games, toys, movies, a Steinway piano—everything you'd want for a fun and relaxing getaway. Everything you need, too: air conditioning, laundry room, speedy internet. Outside on our four acres there's a pool, deck and patios, screen porch, fire bowl with s'mores supplies, grill, archery, sand table, wild berries, occasional deer sightings, and invigorating walks (if you don't mind hills). **THERE ARE NO SHADES ON THE WINDOWS** We provide eye masks. Privacy is not an issue, and it's pitch black at night. But if you have a baby who needs total darkness to nap, this isn't the house for you. For those with architectural inquiries only: The house was designed by Reader & Swartz in Winchester, Va.
The rolling green hills make the Shenandoah Valley one of the most beautiful areas in the mid-Atlantic. Five minutes away is a farm market with playground, BBQ, and ice cream; 15 minutes away is Strasburg, with antique stores and casual restaurants; 30 minutes away are Winchester, Front Royal, and the famous Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. In the summer there's semi-pro baseball, drive-in movies, and river activities a short drive away. In the fall, the leaves are amazing, and the pick-your-own farms and markets are great fun. Spring is a great time to hike (including on the Appalachian Trail nearby), shop for antiques, and visit wineries (right in our town!) and Civil War historical sites and caverns. We'll give you a comprehensive list of our recommendations for area activities and restaurants.
  • Linda was very prompt with responses and it was a very smooth process all the way through. Home is just as pictured, very clean and well stocked with more than just essentials. Pleasant surprise opening the fridge to a bottle of Boordy Sangria- which just so happens to be my favorite :) The kitchen was perfect for cooking/baking, which we did a lot of. We had great weather and really enjoyed relaxing in the pool and on the sun deck. My children had a blast playing with all of the kids toys, finding different games and activity kits all around the house! Would definitely return, this is a very nice, well-managed home!!

    Julia2015-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Linda was very prompt and helpful with communications before the trip. Kaye was available and very communicative as well in meeting me for check-in. The property is as amazing as it looks in the pictures. The kitchen is well stocked and the towel were especially fluffy. The front porch is great for lounging. The mountain is very quiet and relaxing, and within driving distance from a lot of nice wineries and small towns like Strasburg and Woodstock. Winchester is also close by if you're looking for a bigger town. Would definitely come back again. Also they have great taste in movies.

  • We couldn't have been happier with our stay. The house is simply beautiful, filled with light, and exquisitely designed and decorated. We went with our 6 and 10 year olds and it was literally perfect--tons for the kids to do, amazing views for the parents, and true peace and seclusion. Highly, highly recommend.

  • Linda's place was beautiful!! Clean, modern, welcoming! We loved every moment. The house, the pool, the backyard, the view from the windows and deck are all magnificent! Would highly recommend!!! Kids had a blast, as did we. Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us

  • We had an excellent stay at Linda's beautiful house this weekend. The furniture and decor were excellent, as was the view. We especially enjoyed the kitchen, which was beautiful and very nicely equipped. The bathrooms are also especially nice, with a soaking tub in one and a double shower in the other. Kaye, the neighbor we were coordinating with was very nice and accommodating with check in/out and helping us with the fireplace. It was a short drive (30 mins) to Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park so it was perfect for our long weekend getaway from DC.

  • Check in and out process was hassle free. The location in the woods was scenic and quiet.

  • This was our second stay -- this time with a 14-month old. The house had pretty much everything we needed for her. A crib, plenty of toys (including toys for the bath), and the awesome playroom underneath the deck. We were excited to use the screened porch this time (last time the weather was too cold). It was nice to eat dinner out there but the bugs came out to bite at sunset -- not much to do about that though, they were really tiny (smaller than mosquitoes). Overall, a great stay!

  • Linda was wonderful to work with - prompt and friendly - as were the neighbors/caretakers. The house is a beautiful retreat, full of light even on rainy days. We loved the open, airy feel of the living/dining/kitchen area; the comfortable beds; spa-like bathroom; and vibrant decor throughout. We didn't get to experience the outdoor facilities due to the weather, but the well-outfitted kitchen was a delightful space to cook, and the numerous toys and books in the house (and secret playroom!) were a blast to explore with our three-year-old. Per Linda's suggestions, we enjoyed picking up supplies at nearby Woodbine farm market (the hard cider is great!), apple-picking at Marker-Miller farm, and dining at Cristina's in Strasburg (Sunday night open mic was a good time - and everyone was extremely welcoming to our toddler and baby). The neighborhood is quiet and woodsy - we didn't see a soul, nor did we ever cross paths with another vehicle during our stay, but we also didn't feel very far from civilization (a plus when you need to grab a bite or get some supplies).

Our rustic river cabin is just feet from the beautiful Cacapon river. We have a huge wrap around screen porch, which almost doubles the cabin space. The beds are comfy and the kitchen is well stocked. Your pets are welcome to join you, but we'd prefer they stay on the porch. We have fishing poles and tubes for you to enjoy, and 3 kayaks (available to rent), as well as a new bbq grill and outdoor games. There are Adirondack chairs by the river bank for your enjoyment and a fire pit.
Our cabin, built in 1935, started life as a hunting cabin. It has been updated since then, but still maintains its rustic charm. The fireplace is large and provides a romantic ambience. The wrap around porch, with a porch swing and several rockers, is the perfect place to sit and watch the river.
The Cacapon River parallels Route 259 (a 2 lane road), so you will hear traffic noise. Our cabin doesn't sit right on the road, but this is not a secluded cabin in the woods. It is really conveniently located for a trip in to Wardensville or access to hiking areas.
  • The cabin is very cozy and comfortable, the porch was my favorite spot to take in the sight of the river and listen to the rain. My husband and son really enjoyed the kayaks in the river. It is a very restful place. Thank you, Jeana!

  • Jenna's cabin provided a great spot for a weekend getaway. My wife and I enjoyed our time there and took advantage of some of the recommendations Jenna gave us. The cabin provided many amenities to make our stay very enjoyable. We will definitely try and stay there again.

    Ray2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • This is a really nice getaway cabin; we had a great time. The property is really nice, situated on a quaint little creek and with a decent amount of space for eating outside and for parking several trucks. I was a bit afraid the cabin wouldn’t be big enough to throw an extra air mattress down, but the inside is bigger than it looks in the pictures, and so is the porch, which wraps around. The whole place is well stocked with tools for cooking, grilling, and just general living. The only thing I wish we brought the first night was paper towels. The cabin did get a little chilly, particularly at night, but Jeana has an ample supply of blankets, and the fireplace (plenty of firewood) provided nice heat as well. We were also there in mid-January, so the base board heaters were a bit outmatched. Jeana was very responsive to the couple of questions we had throughout the weekend, usually responding within the hour. We didn’t have cell coverage there, which could either be a caveat or a bonus, but the WiFi worked great. Overall I highly recommend this place. It was better than my fairly high expectations.

    Jonathan2018-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is a beautiful getaway, perfect for a relaxing stay in West Virginia.

    Kyle2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • This past weekend was one of the best get-a-ways my family and I have had in a long time. The cabin was awesome and the location was exactly what we were looking for. We enjoyed fishing, swimming and my boys caught crawfish with their nets! We really could not have asked for a better weekend or host!

    Amanda2017-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin was the perfect weekend escape, even with winter weather closing in. When we arrived, Jeana had the lights on and cookies and a handwritten note waiting on the counter. I loved the personal touches, like the gorgeous decor, including a handmade quilt, and prints from local artists. We took advantage of the cabin's proximity to the George Washington National Forest to spend a day hiking, followed by an evening exploring Wardensville. It does take a while to warm up inside, so future guests traveling in the winter months might want to pack extra warm clothes. Jeana provided plenty of firewood, and the fireplace was wonderful. The kitchen has all of the utensils one might want, and coffee too!

    Caroline2017-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin is great. My wife and I wanted a place to relax that was relatively close driving wise (1- 3 hours from Manassas, VA). Jeana's place fit the bill. The cabin itself is great, right on a river, most everything you could want amenity wise (except for maybe a clothes washer?). Jeana's a gracious host and responds quickly. We had a great time walking through Wardensville, checking out local shops and food, driving and hiking in the mountains, and sitting on the screened porch for lunch and dinners, and resting by a fire at night.

    John-David2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • What a great spot! We sat right on the river and watched as the dogs played. We never saw another person, and we walked up the river quite aways in both directions. The house is a REAL cabin, but it also has all the modern conveniences you would want: air con, heat, TV, wifi, coffee maker, microwave etc. The mattress and pillows were soft and very comfy--not always the case with house rentals. We made a fire every night down on the river bank where there is a pit and lovely Adirondack chairs. And every amenity possible was provided, from firewood, kayaks and fishing poles to toilet paper and dish soap. We practically packed the whole house but didn't need to! The best part is that it is 6 miles from town, where there are some trendy shops and farmers markets and restaurants.

  • Elizabeth's place is in a nice and quiet neighborhood right off downtown Strasburgh! The place was exactly the same as described. It was very spacious and clean! There was more than enough space for 5 of us. The pantry and refrigerator were stocked with kitchen essentials even though we didn’t really need most of the items. We did helped ourselves to some beer she had in her fridge (thanks!!!). She was very responsive too! There is even a cozy restaurant called “Christina’s Café” in 0.2 miles too! Delicious. We couldn’t have asked for a better weekend in Strasburgh!

  • Amazing! It had everything it listed. Wifi, kitchen, two bathrooms, 3 bedrooms, etc. It was very private and clean. The owner was very nice and quick to respond. We never did meet her, but the house was ready to go! We plan to come back again and take a whole weekend trip. It was that good! Thank you for hosting us. Your house is absolutely beautiful.

  • If you are looking for a quiet neighborhood and a lovely home, this is the place to stay. This was my first experience with Airbnb and I hope all future rentals are as clean, comfortable and charming as this was. Elizabeth answered all of my questions and made the check in process very easy. Was surprised we didn't need to bring towels, sheets, toiletries, etc. everything was provided. Would highly recommend this home if you want to enjoy the beautiful Shenandoah Valley.

  • This mountain home proved a charming family getaway. Elizabeth made us feel welcome, and the house was clean and warmly decorated. There are good restaurants within walking distance, but also a grill on the deck if you prefer to eat in. Also there are great beds, perfect for a refreshing night's sleep.

Very short walk from a Buddhist society. On 5 1/2 acres with creek on property. We are smokers, but only smoke outside and would like guests to do the same. The home is heated by a woodstove, you can use the electric heater in your room as well though. We work online and are home most days. There is only one bathroom, and it's shared. There is no washer or dryer.
  • Bob & Sarah were kind, down to earth couple and wonderful to talk to. They were respectful and helped me out with directions to the destination of my Dr. appointment. There location is secluded and quiet. There was an abundance of wildlife ☺and I thought it was so cool that they lived next to a Meditation Monastary retreat and very close to Capon Springs . They have two adorable well behaved freindly dogs. I Would stay there again. Thanks Bobby and Sarah!

  • I've stayed at many Airbnb and this was the best yet. John is beyond fabulous. The bed linen was soft. The home was immaculate. The towels were soft and fresh. I will be back!

  • This house was more than I expected it would be. It's a beautiful townhouse with tons of space and in such a quiet neighborhood. John provided breakfast so that was one thing we did t have to worry about. The deck was the perfect place to just relax as the sun was coming up in the morning. I would recommend this place to anyone that just needs to get away from life for a minute. Great place for families!!!

  • Second time staying here in 3 months. John's home is beautiful and cozy. 3 Bedrooms. Master bedroom is super comfy, has an amazing bathtub and backyard has lovely view of the woods. The kitchen is well equipped - has every appliances, pot, pan you need - which was a treat as my bf and I love to cook and we spent the weekend making meals in the home. Lovely collection of books in the den as well. Can't wait to be back again!

    debbie2018-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • This property was an amazing value for the short time frame we needed. The owners were very communicative and even left breakfast for us in the morning! The location is near a grocery store and the house had everything you could need. After a full day of travel the Jacuzzi tub in the master bedroom was just what a girl needed to relax. We didn't even turn on a TV while we stayed. I should also note that the neighbors are quite friendly and outgoing! You won't be disappointed with this choice!

  • John's place was the perfect reach for my girlfriend and I during a road bike trip on Skyline drive. The neighborhood is a town home community, children were peacefully playing in the cul de sac when we arrived. It's a great base camp, the Jacuzzi in the master bedroom made for a perfect soak after a day of fun, and there was a bottle of Dr. Neal's epsom salt/bath oil ready to go. The entire home is well laid out, great for a group. I will keep this one in our list of places for future visits. John was a great communicator, and quickly replied to my request.

I would stay there again!

  • DQ and Megan were great hosts. And DQ (and Megan) is a wonderful cook. The breakfast options were amazing and all very tasty. I make my own homemade hot sauce and was delighted to hear that DQ does as well! He was gracious enough to let me sample them and even served some on the side with my chorizo breakfast burrito the next morning. Their B&B is fairly new but they're off to a great start. The rooms are freshly renovated and well appointed but still offer a cozy charm. The location is great, very close to the north entrance of Skyline drive and outdoor activities. Will be coming back for our next trip in the northern Shenandoah area.

    Heather2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • What a gem the Holiday House is! Dq and his wife are wonderful and extremely attentive to your needs. The house itself is charming. The rooms are inviting. Our French toast with pure maple syrup and egg breakfast was delicious and satisfied us for the whole day. Being weary after attending a long day's pottery conference, Dq prepared an outstanding eggplant dish for us so we could just kick back and relax in the evening. I recommend the Holiday House without hesitation and look forward to a return stay!

"The Smithy" is a great place to stay with friends or family for a nice, relaxing stay in the Shenandoah Valley. Originally a blacksmiths shop in the 1800's, "the Smithy" has been owned by the Hupp family since the 1930s. The house is within walking distance to a number of Strasburg's restaurants, antique shops, the town park, and river walk. And a short drive to the many hiking trails in Fort Valley.
"The Smithy" offers a vintage, homey feel but includes a newly remodeled bathroom, washer and dryer, updated kitchen, and central heating and air.
The neighborhood is comprised of several very kind, elderly couples as well as younger families with children. We just ask that guests respect the neighbors and keep noise to a minimum after 10pm.
  • Kelsie's place was great! My friends and I went there for a weekend getaway from D.C., and found the house both inviting and well-located in the area. The Smithy is a quick walk from the local diner, a few dinner spots, and the center of town. The rooms are very comfortable, and Kelsie did a great job making it feel like a home away from home.

    Andrew2017-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • Kelsie's place is hands down one of the nicest Airbnb stays I've had! Her place is lovely, perfectly decorated like out of a magazine, fresh linens and the beds were very comfortable! She also thought of every detail and had the fridge and pantry stocked with all the extras you forget to bring and the kitchen utensils/cookware were all there to prepare a full meal. Check in/out were easy and we had no problem finding the location with GPS. This place makes a great home base for exploring the local caverns and Shenandoah National Park. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it!!!

    Karin2017-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived at “the Smithy” on a Friday afternoon ready for a relaxing, fun weekend. Our host Kelsie, made check in quick and easy and right away we felt at home! She was kind enough to provide some “extra” touches we were not expecting. It was very clean and decorated well! The house sits in a quiet neighborhood at the edge town within walking distance to restaurants and shops. Also there are plenty of nearby places for hiking and outdoor activities.

    Shawn2017-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • All the reviews here are correct -- the house is even nicer than it looks in the pictures, the kitchen is extremely well-appointed (we cooked six or seven meals and never needed a kitchen implement we didn't have), there are other a ton of other little details that made our stay comfortable (towels, shampoo and conditioner, cleaning supplies, movies, basic first aid), and as six adults we were very comfortable in the space for a long weekend (though similar groups should be aware that there is only one bathroom, which could be tight depending on your habits). The town is cute, though because it was 20 degrees all weekend we didn't get out much, and close by to the national park.

    Helen2018-01-01T00:00:00Z

  • Loved everything about staying at Kelsie's place! We arrived for our check in and everything was in order! Kelsie even left us a sweet treat. The house was clean and had everything it promised. We visited Luray Caverns, Dinosaur Land and the Natural Bridge. Very close to restaurants and shops. The house is tastefully decorated and made coming home late at night very pleasant. Very quiet rode makes you feel safe! Would definitely stay here again. :)

  • We had a quick stay here on our way from Charlottesville to DC. We originally wanted to take the skyline drive, but unfortunately it was closed for snow. Would recommend for anyone doing that drive and needing a place to stay close by. Amanda’s cottage is adorable and the surrounding farm area was beautiful to look at. I would love to come back during a warmer season to really enjoy the surroundings. Her cottage has everything you would need and Amanda’s very nice and quick with her responses.

As our community sits at the juncture of I-81 and I-66, just 45 miles west of Dulles International Airport, it makes it an ideal rest stop to adjust your body to major time zone changes before traveling. If visiting Washington, D.C., the exit to I-66 is just 2 miles from the house. In the event of emergencies, Winchester Medical Center is just 15 miles away. Speaking of Winchester, it claims country singer Patsy Cline as a native and a museum is open on the grounds of her childhood home. Several American Civil War battlegrounds worth touring are nearby including Cedar Creek (1 mile south) and Kernstown (6 miles north). Cedar Creek battlefield is also home to Belle Grove Plantation.
  • Great spot to stay with warm hospitality from host Mark

  • We very much enjoyed our stay at Marshall and June's. The apartment is spotlessly clean with very charming antique furniture and modern amenities. The wifi access was very good, the fridge had plenty of cold drinks, the beds are quite comfortable, and we felt very much at home. Highest recommendations, it's a wonderful place to stay.

  • Everything was great, and we really enjoyed our short stay at Marshall and June's place. It was just as described, and we highly recommend staying there if you need a place in the area.

  • A great spot to stop off en route to the skyline drive. Mark and June have put together a four-star hotel suite experience for their guests. Can't recommend this apartment enough.

  • Great place to stay overnight that was right off of I-81. Mark and June were very quick to respond and welcomed us when we arrived. Spacious and clean, exactly like the photos online. They even provided a Keurig with coffee and snacks for the morning. We enjoyed staying there and would highly recommend it to future travelers!

  • Marshall and June are amazing they are the best anybody could ask for. They are friendly and, very kind. The apartment is great my wife and I love how close it is to everything and it's quiet as well. The beagles the owners have are what my wife would say the best because she loves them. We have been in town for family loss and family illness. The apartment has everything you need the shower is amazing and the living room area is warm and welcoming and the king bed is great and so comfortable. We will safe here which is a great feeling as well. We will be back for sure.

  • We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Mark and June’s place. They were great hosts during our 3 day visit. The suite is large, nicely furnished, modern, clean and comfortable. The king size bed is so comfy with ceiling fan above. There is a kitchenette with basics including sodas/juice and snacks. Brochures on the area were helpful. The side entrance to the suite ensures privacy and was well lit so we felt very safe there. The WiFi worked fine on Iphone but slow on Ipad. The property is located in the heart of Middletown, a quaint historic town, and centrally located to the places and things that we wanted to see and do in the Shenandoah Valley.

  • It was raining when we arrived, so we appreciated that the host was there to welcome us with an umbrella. The apartment was exactly as advertised, new, cozy and tastefully decorated. Besides the Keurig coffeemaker, there were all kinds of drinks in the fridge and also some snacks! Wished we could have stayed longer. Would highly recommend this place to other travelers.

Welcome to our Heighview Hacienda! I bought this home for my wife as a wedding gift after she told me the story of how her parents renovated it from an old hunter's cabin. We found it to be the perfect place to decompress, regroup, and reconnect with family and friends. If the loudest noise you would like to hear is birds singing, then you have found your destination!
This cabin is clean, well-maintained and displays simple elegance and comfort. The home includes one king bed, one twin with a trundle, and one queen air mattress. In the winter you can see one other home but in full foliage season, other residences are barely perceptible.
    Quiet peaceful, wooded location!
  • What a well appointed cabin in an beautiful setting! The decor was stylish, tasteful, and fresh. The bed, sofa, and furniture are all comfortable, seemingly new, and clean. The amenities such as the "light-switch turn on" fireplace, fast Wi-fi, and touchpad climate control and security system all make for a very comfortable stay while feeling miles away from the hustle and bustle. Raymond is very easy to work with. It was clear that he valued us as guests at his property and wanted our experience to be wonderful. He was immediately available by voice and text whenever we needed him. He was friendly, professional, and attentive which ensured an enjoyable stay. If you want a relaxing place with modern creature comforts set in a scenic getaway location then this is the place for you!

  • We stayed in this lovely cabin for 4 days while visiting Winchester for the Shanendoah Summer Music Thestre. It was perfect! The drive into town was easy and we explored the area. (Harpers Ferry, Shanendoah National Park) It was always great to get back to our cozy cabin.

  • Ray was a fantastic host!!!! I stayed at rays newly renovated cabin for over a month and it was the best Airbnb experience! The cabin was very clean and peaceful and had everything you could ever want while enjoying a quiet vacation getaway! The cabin had a fully stocked kitchen, Apple TV, a recorder player, a very comfy bed and a beautiful view of the Shenandoah valley to enjoy the summer sunsets. Ray was also one of the bests host I have ever had!! He is so accommodating and is very good at communicating. I would highly recommend Ray's place!!

  • Awesome house!! Raymond was great with communication and very accommodating. The house was very clean and had everything you need to feel right at home. Very comfortable beds, lovely area and very private. We loved our stay and will definitely stay again when in town. Thank you so much!

  • An amazing home with comfortable and clean amenities. Raymond is very helpful and easy to access by phone or text. If you're looking for beautiful scenery and peace in the Winchester area this is an awesome location. Please be aware of the travel to the home as you must venture on a dirt/gravel road with a very steep hill. However, the top of the hill provides a beautiful picture to capture the true beauty of the area. If traveling in the winter, you may want to consider traveling by SUV, as you may endure snowy/icy conditions that may provide a challenge for getting to and leaving the house. Overall, a great experience. When I travel down to Winchester next year for my family reunion again I will be sure to reserve with Raymond. 5 star experience.
