  • Beautiful little cottage in a delightful location. Very peaceful and lovely alpacas to admire in the adjoining field. The location was close to many places of interest, so it was very convenient for exploring the area. The hosts obviously take a lot of pride in the accommodation. Everything was clean and modern. The wood burning stove was very welcome in the cold evenings, although the central heating was very effective and kept the place lovely and warm.

  • We loved our stay in the Quarry Cottage. We were instantly impressed on arrival by the cosy feel of the cottage and the high spec of all the fittings/furnishings. We were greeted by an open fire which was a lovely welcome, and the cottage was spotlessly clean. The location is perfect for exploring this beautiful area with lots of nearby walks and attractions, but also feels like you're tucked away from it all in a very quiet and idyllic location. We made use of the local leisure facilities which were handy and very relaxing, as well as visiting some great local pubs and villages. We felt right at home and were very sad to have to leave. We will be sure to return!

  • Great cottage for us (a couple and a small pooch), loads of walks on the doorstep and a great spot to explore the rest of the area, we went up to Kielder and Hadrian's Wall amongst other places! Lovely welcome including a lit fire and a pint of milk! Thanks for having us!

  • We had a great couple of days staying at Quarry Cottage. It is a beautiful hideaway that offers privacy in an idyllic country setting or 20 mins drive to the hustle of city life. The cottage is fantastic - the kitchen and bathroom are very well finished and the whole place has everything needed to be truly comfortable and very relaxing. Michael is a super host and greeted us soon after our arrival. He was extremely helpful and has a wealth of knowledge about the surrounding area. We will definitely be returning.

    Stuart2016-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic cottage. Wonderful hosts. Our daughter booked as a surprise for us and it couldn't have been any better. Michael met us on arrival and is very thoughtful and helpful. The cottage has everything needed to enjoy a very comfortable stay. The area is outstandingly beautiful. Just what we needed for a relaxing weekend to recharge the batteries :)

    Amy2016-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • The Quarry Cottage is exactly what we hoped it would be and more. A beautifully cosy place with privacy in an idyllic country setting. It offered everything we needed to be truly comfortable and was pet friendly, allowing our dog to go on long country walks. Michael and June were perfect hosts, and it was nice to get a chance to hang out with the Alpacas.

    Charlotte2015-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is lovely and fitted out to a high specification with a wood burner for cosy nights in. Nearby river walk or short drive to local places of interest. Recommend it.

  • I stayed here for 3 nights just before the New Year for a relaxing get away and it was exactly that. The whole stay was perfect from start to finish as the cottage had everything that you would need and want. Perfect for a bit of piece and quiet.

We live in a bungalow with an upper floor that has two bedrooms, a living area and en-suite bathroom. We stay downstairs and are offering the upstairs area to people travelling and visiting the local area. Perfect for a couple or a small family.
The house is essentially a bungalow, but with an extended upper floor with two bedrooms, a living space and en-suite bathroom. We live downstairs and use the upstairs for family and guests to stay whenever they like. We think it's a really nice space to come back to and relax after a day walking in the surrounding country side or visiting one of the nearby towns an cities.
Shotley Bridge is in the beautiful Derwent Valley and our home is in walking distance of both Shotley and Medomsley villages - both have a local pub and restaurant. The house overlooks the Derwent Walk a 10 mile former railway which is now available to pedestrians, cycles, horses and dogs. It winds up the valley from Swalwell to Consett and also forms part of the Coast to Coast cycle route. Nearby attractions include the Derwent Reservoir, Tanfield Railway and Beamish Museum all within a 15 min drive. Consett town centre with a range of local amenities is 10 minutes in the car and Durham and Newcastle city centres can be reached in about half an hour.
  • Bellissima esperienza. Bellissima casa e molto pulita. Rosie e Paul sono stati formidabili con noi, super accoglienza. Ci siamo sentiti come a casa. Paul ci ha cucinato una super colazione e Rosie ci ha fatto compagnia. Peccato che siamo stati solo una notte. Grazie di tutto.

  • Absolutely wonderful. Felt like we were amongst close friends.

    Dianne2017-05-22T00:00:00Z
  • Had a very pleasant relaxing weekend stay with Rosie & Paul and made to feel very welcome with a large box of sumptuous biscuits, bottle of wine, tea, coffee & variety of herbal teas. It was easy to find the B&B which has ample off road parking. The full English breakfast was excellent and a vegetarian breakfast kindly provided for my daughter. The upstairs guest lounge and two bedrooms are of a good size, bright, and nice and cosy. Perhaps the toilet/shower room is a little small but perfectly adequate and provided with lots of nice soft towels. The stairs accessing the top floor were no problem for us but possibly a little steep for anyone unsteady on their feet. Rosie & Paul are very friendly and had a nice chat with Rosie after breakfast on Sunday while waiting for my daughter to return from a jog on the adjacent disused railway line. Would be happy to stay again & recommended the B&B for any other visitors to our nearby friends. Many thanks, Peter & Caroline.

  • After a long day on the bike, I arrived at Rosie's and was given a really warm welcome and a few snacks straight away. It was my first time using airbnb, and if every place is as good as Rosie's I think I'll probably live in airbnb's for the rest of my life! The rooms were spacious and in top condition, and a fantastic host who's so happy to help you out with anything. Cheers Rosie!

  • We absolutely loved our stay with Rosie and Paul, their accommodation is spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Rosie is kind, generous and supremely hospitable,STAY HERE you could not do better! Superb value for money, thank you so much.

  • Rosie and Paul are the most hospitable and obliging hosts. They provided all sorts of goodies to welcome us and made us feel right at home. The apartment is quite spacious with a very comfortable bed, nice linen and towels. The location is very charming and central to many points of interest. Overall a wonder ful experience. We loved the chats! Paul might even tinkle the ivories, if encouraged!!

  • A superb place to stay - Rosie and Paul exceptional hosts and we were made to feel extremely welcome - the rooms are wonderful and everything was done to ensure we had a very pleasant time.

  • Rosie and Paul are outstanding hosts! A stone's throw from the C2C en route to Tynemouth, their cottage was the perfect resting place after a long day of riding. They have thought of everything to make their guests comfortable. They are kind, caring, and the perfect picture of Northern English hospitality!

  • Our host was fabulous, right from the day we booked the house. He responded to all emails very very quickly and answered any queries we had in addition to ensuring we had directions to the house and the contact number of the lady who would meet us upon arrival. We had a wonderful holiday and the house was exactly as described and was the perfect setting for a memorable dinner for my parents, brother, Aunt and Uncle when they visited. They fell in love with the house too. The house was very clean, spacious and had everything we needed. The neighbourhood was lovely and the people very friendly.

Ford Cottage is a beautiful stone built cottage, on the edge of Allensford Country Park. Next to the A68, the cottage has great access to Newcastle, Durham and Northumberland. The cottage offers 2 double bedrooms, large lounge/diner/kitchen and benefits from an outside courtyard with outside seating. Both bedrooms have en-suite shower rooms. To the rear of the property is the wonderful Allensford Country Park with the Derwent River running alongside.
With a large arched double door access, natural daylight floods into the living area of the cottage. The compact kitchen is built into the alcove and offers a fridge, hob, oven and microwave. All rooms are on one level, making this property ideal for guests with limited mobility. Normal size wheelchairs can easily access the property by entering the master bedroom from its outside door (the large arched entrance has a step over) The corridor space is tight for wheelchairs, but can fit, but be mindful if you have a larger wheelchair, you may struggle. Both bathrooms have large, walk in power showers.
Allensford Country Park is a lovely large grassed area, which is ideal for walking the dog or having a picnic by the river. If you have children, there is a large play park with Cafe serving snacks and ice creams. Next to the park is lots of walks throughout Allensford Woods, so a great retreat away from the city. Nearby is the town of Consett, with a large Tesco, Morrisons and Aldi. Consett has a small town centre with some local shops and a market on a Saturday. On the outskirts of Consett is an outlet centre with a MacDonalds and Starbucks.
  • Had a wonderful stay, great location, especially for a walk! Had everything you would need, clean and very homely!

  • Great weekend fantastic and clean, lighting needs to be improved throughout the cottage ladies struggled to see properly when applying make-up. However overall a great place and that was our only gripe, use of the leisure facilities were a great bonus.

  • Myself and four friends stayed here for one night as we were attending a wedding in the area. We didn't get to spend much time at the apartment because we were at the wedding all evening but the view the following morning was lovely. The apartment was nicely decorated and the beds comfy! Everything was as expected and check in and out was really easy. I would recommend staying here for one night or for a week to fully enjoy the local area. Many thanks

  • Staying at the Derwent Manor, was comfortable and welcoming. The Cottage was part of a hotel complex, which we didn't expect, so it wasn't as private as I thought it would be. However saying that, there was a great bar and communal space and the cottage was very comfortable and quiet.

    Amy2016-06-20T00:00:00Z
  • This is second time we have stayed in this lovely cottage and would very much recommend. Made initial booking, but did not really have any communication other than confirmation. Food at hotel in bar lovely, apart from mixed berry panacota which was a bit bland.

    Norma2015-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Derwent Manor was what we were looking for. The location was quiet and a good base to explore the surrounding area. The cottage was well represented in the pictures and good value. We enjoyed meals in the hotel restaurant and the food was good. I would recommend this listing.

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Derwent Manor. The cottage was very well appointed and had all we needed for our stay. Being so close to the swimming pool it was perfect for the children. Garden Cottage at Fine House Farm is a gorgeous bolthole for two, and their well behaved dogs. It is quiet, peaceful and secluded, sharing our large garden. Easily accessible and close to beautiful countryside, the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Northumberland National Park and Hadrians' Wall. Only 15 minutes from Corbridge and less than 25 minutes from Hexham, Newcastle and Durham. Great for walkers, for exploring Northumbria, or for simply relaxing and doing very little.
This lovely barn conversion is spacious, bright and cozy. The living room has a large table, doors that open straight into the garden with a sheltered seating area and lovely views. There is a TV, a bookcase full of books, materials for drawing and painting and OS maps of the surrounding areas if you fancy a walk. The large bedroom has a super comfy king size bed, hot water bottles, views over the garden and farmland, and amazing star lit skies. The well equipped kitchen has a gas hob, electric oven, microwave, electric kettle and toaster. The bathroom is a TINY but warm shower room.
Garden Cottage at Fine House Farm is about 10 miles from the lovely village of Corbridge, 15 miles from historic Hexham, 8 miles from Consett, and about 20 miles from Newcastle and Newcastle Airport. We are on the edge of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, beautiful Weardale and close to Hadrians Wall, and the amazing Northumberland Coast. There are lovely walks right outside the door, and further afield. There are good pubs close by, The Manor House Inn at Carterway Heads is within walking distance, The Lord Crewe at Blanchland is worth the lovely drive over the moors, and there are loads of pubs and restaurants in Corbridge and the neighbouring villages.
  • Great hosts and nothing for was too much trouble, great base for walking, cycling and just exploring the local area. Very peaceful and relaxing weekend, thank you.

  • The cottage is an absolute gem. We were so pleasantly surprised. Very warm welcome, lovely snack on arrival, selection of breakfast cereals and tea/coffee. We stayed with a 10 month old daughter and a dog and we were very comfortable. The views are incredible and the only negative was the fact that we were not able to stay for longer :) Will definitely come back again in the summer.

  • We had such a lovely stay at the cottage. Jane and her husband made us feel very welcome and our greyhound had a great time exploring their beautiful garden. The cottage is thoughtfully decorated and well equipped for cooking. We had such a relaxing trip - would definitely recommend!

  • A gorgeous spacious cottage in a stunning location. Lovely garden and fields all around. A delight to sit up in bed and have views in two directions. Very quiet and peaceful. We were out all day but it was a pleasure to sit in the lounge in the evenings, I particularly loved the chair in the corner infront of big window looking out at horses, and to have a coffee in the garden first thing. Bathroom is small but perfectly functional. Hosts on hand next door but as others have said perfect balance of friendliness and giving privacy. Fresh flowers and cake on arrival lovely touches. Would definitely recommend.

It was a perfect environment of simplified living (but with wifi) waking to sunrises, simple breakfasts and all in an artistic styled cottage. It was a ideal location to base some exploration and some down time. I really enjoyed my time and wish I could of stayed longer. Well there is always next time.

  • Five of us stayed for the weekend and we were all very happy with the accomodation and the warm welcome. Having the back patio and garden to sit in was also very welcome. When it was time to leave one of the bikes had a flat tyre but Jane's husband, sorry but I've forgotten his name, came to the rescue with some tyre weld and a foot pump. Cheers mate! Well worth considering this place for a visit.

  • Jane and Tony were very welcoming, their home filled with character and charm. They have a very tranquil garden, great for alfresco dining and listening to the birds. The house is clean and spacious. We have family in the area so it's perfect for visiting them whilst having our own space. Not far from Newcastle and Gateshead, about 10 minutes from the A1 motorway. We'll be back!

  • Comfortable, quiet house. Very nice garden where you can sit out and chat or eat. Off street parking was very useful. The hosts were very friendly and even took us all the way to Beamish when we could not get a taxi.

  • This is a lovely house to stay in - very cosy, tranquil and a perfect base for our mini-holiday with our 13 year old son exploring Hadrian's Wall and the Northumberland coast. It's well equipped, with plenty of room, thoughtfully decorated, nice patio, and secure parking. It's great value for money, Jane's very relaxed and straightforward, and we would definitely visit again!

  • Beautiful annexed terraced house with cracking garden and easy links into Newcastle. Really enjoyed our stay.

    Luke2017-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Jane and Tony offer a lovely annexed half of their end of terrace house. The house is at the far end of a narrow very quiet street. It is simply but nicely kitted out with comfortable beds and living room furniture that can cope with small people whilst being attractive. The kitchen was modern enough and has plenty of crockery and pans to allow us to cook for our horde. The bathroom is small and gets pretty steamy and damp - but that's because there is no lack of hot water and the shower/bath is strong. Parking is provided off street which is a nice touch though don't attempt to bring your humvee as there is not the space to turn it! Overall, for the price, we were delighted and very happy. It's a bit of a drive to many of the Northumberland attractions but that's wasn't a big deal.

Its large kitchen is well equipped with a dining area, fridge-freezer, washing machine, tumble drier, large oven, gas hob, microwave & all essentials. The lounge has a 40" flat screen HD TV & double patio doors leading out to beautiful countryside views. The conservatory leads into a enclosed garden with garden furniture. Private parking right outside the cottage door and the cottage is pet friendly.
For keen walkers, runners and cyclists we have our own woodlands located on the farm and we are very close to the Derwent Walk Country Park. The Derwent walk has a mixture of woodlands, meadows and riverside. It's 11 miles long and follows the Derwent Valley. Our local pubs include but are not limited to:- The Miners Arms -1.5miles away, The Royal Oak -1.6miles away and The Derwent Walk Inn -2.7miles away. Leading from the Derwent Walk is Chopwell Woods which is 360 hectares of mixed woodlands with miles of paths into the heart of the woodlands. We are also connected to Pontburn Woods which is one of the Derwent Valley's largest woodland. For those who want a taste of Newcastle City City Centre and enjoy shopping we are only 12.5 miles from the Quayside. This is only a 25 minute drive or bus journey. We are 8.3 miles from The Metro Centre which is accessible from the Derwent Walk or you can drive / catch the bus which takes around 15 minutes.
There are scenic walks from the doorstep of the cottage and lots of wildlife including deers.
  • A cosy country cottage tucked away on a working farm. Quiet yet within easy commute of Newcastle, Durham and Hexham. I stayed here with my daughter and our small dog. The cottage is well furnished - the kitchen has everything you need to rustle up a meal. And handily has for a washer and tumble dryer (which we didn't have need to use). But I couldnt see an iron or ironing board and you need to pack a hairdryer. The bedrooms have double beds and comfy mattresses to die for. Lounge is lovely with wifi and TV. There was an open fire which would be great for winter stays. Bathroom has bath and electric shower over. It's more than adequate but a little dated compared to the rest of the cottage. The only thing that would have made our stay a little easier is a gate on the patio to close it off for pets. But a small gripe and it didn't detract from a lovely relaxing stay in a beautiful part of the country. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this cottage.

  • We had a lovely stay in this wonderful cottage nestled in the countryside. A perfect stop on our trip, and a great place to rest up, and get some much needed relaxation (or at least as much as was possible with a manic spaniel!). We will definitely look to book again if we visit the North East.

  • A lovely little cottage in a great location if you have a car. We had our daughter with us and it was a perfect location for her as there were no stairs to worry about and a travel cot available. She loved waking up to horses every morning!

Everything you could possibly want has been thought of and provided down to the very last detail whether it's immaculate decor, independent access, miniature toiletries for your morning shower or the generous breakfast to set you up for the whole day. The village is really picturesque and set on the edge of the North Pennines with all that has to offer. Book your dates now before someone else does!

  • Ed and Rebecca's house was absolutely lovely - easy to find, simple check in and a quiet and comfortable bedroom for the night. We felt very well cared for - thank you!

    Eleanor2017-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Ed and Rebecca were great hosts, and the accommodation was lovely, clean, and exactly as the pictures looked (maybe even better!) The place was newly renovated and there were lovely small touches, including the toiletries and breakfast. A perfect place to stay near Durham.

    Catherine2017-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was set up perfectly. Things felt new and fresh and ed went above and beyond with the extras he provided for us.

    Guy2017-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • Me and my girlfriend stayed 3 nights at Rebecca's and Ed's place. The house was right in the middle between Newcastle and Durham wich we could visit easily (20 minute drive max. ). The location was perfect. It was cozy and clean, everything was brand new and really comfortable. We had our own bedroom aswell as a nice bathroom with a great shower and a small kitchen area. We could also use the kitchen area of Rebecca and Ed so we had everything we needed. The breakfast that was provided was superb, for the cereal lover my girlfriend is aswell as myself that eats bread for breakfast ;). Ed and Rebecca were really nice and outgoing people trying to help us whenever they could and gave us many tips for the area. I have to say it one more time: this place is a GEM!! Thanks again for everything Rebecca and Ed!

    Moritz2017-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • We would like to say what a great find! Ed and Rebecca are great hosts they are there to help you with advice or information on local places of interest if needed. They also leave you to do your own thing but let you know you are welcome to sit in their lounge etc. Breakfast superb even a bottle of red and white and biscuits on arrival! The slippers are also a nice touch! The accommodation to a vey high standard clean and modern but keeping the characteristic of the building. We can't recommend this place highly enough! Very reasonably priced accommodation.

    Cindy2017-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • What a gorgeous place! Thank you for hosting us, Ed & Rebecca. We were traveling from Edinburgh to London and needed a place somewhere midway to stay for the night. The hosts were very kind, the guest house was immaculately decorated, clean and very modern, with a little kitchenette, nice bathroom and a cosy bedroom (not to mention the complimentary small wine bottles, juice and cookies!) In the morning we woke up to a breakfast table already set up for us, which was a very nice touch. Thank you so much again!

    Anna2017-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • Ed and Rebecca were delightful and helpful hosts. The accommodations were comfortable and private; the breakfast was great, and the parking was safe and convenient. We would definitely return if we had the opportunity.

An exceedingly spacious pet friendly room with double bed, large ensuite with walk in shower and stunning views over Northumberland and the Tyne Valley. Off road parking and bike storage is available in our secure garage. The village is home to the renowned "Feathers Inn", the Northumbria Gliding Club and we are within 3 miles of the Rivers Tyne and Derwent. We are well situated for exploring Newcastle, Durham and Northumberland. Exceedingly rural but only 20 minutes to Newcastle and Durham.
4 bedroom country house, tastefully decorated in a Farrow & Ball colour palate with Fabrics by Voyage. Warm and comfortable, the house has been a renovation project. Our furniture pieces range from contemporary to georgian oak and Rebecca thoroughly enjoys collecting and restoring pieces. Our artworks range from Yorkshire watercolours, to Northumbrian seaside views and drawings by local animal artists ....... You'll also find a great many references to Labradors, Rebecca's favourite dog. To the south of the property we have an enclosed private garden with out door seating. The garden is a work in progress and is due to undergo a redesign in 2018. You are welcome to sit out and enjoy the clean Northumbrian air. Take a look at our Instagram page - "thehouseuponthehill" - and follow our journey!
Quiet and rural with stunning views, you will not be disappointed! We are well located for out door enthusiasts with the gliding club, numerous cycling routes (we are located on the Lead Road cycle route), fabulous walks (including Hadrian's wall) and for those interested in angling we are within 3 miles of the R. Tyne and R. Derwent which both offer day tickets. Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club is approximately 20 minutes by car.
  • The home in a convenient location for access to Close House Golf course. Close to the local pub that serves very nice meals.

  • Rebecca's place is lovely! The room is spacious with am ensuite bathroom. She has it set up to make coffee or tea in your room, and we enjoyed sittimg on the loveseat drinking tea amd looking at the view. Its a beautiful country hideaway, but less then 30 minutes from the city of Newcastle Upon Tyne. We would definitely stay with Rebecca again

  • Rebecca's place was gorgeous and she was a really relaxed and accommodating host. The room was really lovely, with en suite and bigger than it looked in the pictures. Tea coffee biscuits and breakfast were provided which was great. The area is beautiful, and the local pub serves great drinks and a wonderful roast dinner!! Rebecca's place is great value for money, thank you for having us :)

  • Rebecca is the most welcoming and accommodating of hosts. She has a lovely house in beautiful Northumberland and to stay in Hedley-on-the-Hill is a real treat!

    Helen2017-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Rebecca was a very relaxed and welcoming host. Her local knowledge and advice was really helpful in finding great places to visit. The village pub is only a few minutes' walk. If you are planning to spend the evening there, arrive before 20:00 or telephone to say you are coming. The bar man gave us this advice, as they will close early if empty at 20:00. The food there is very satisfying local produce and the staff extremely friendly. There is plenty to see and do in the local area: stately homes, gardens, antique shops, country walks, country pubs or all the attractions of a city in Newcastle.

    Damon & Todd2017-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • The house is gorgeous with beautiful views. There isn't much in the village but it is not far from shops etc. by car. Rebecca was very welcoming and accommodating with our two young dogs. Room was beautiful and spacious, had room for xl dog crate and sofa without feeling cramped. Would definitely recommend.

    Dave2017-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely fabulous in all respects and was even better than described. Would definitely recommend staying here and we'll be back for sure too. True dog lovers with lots of nice walks close by. Thank you x

  • Amazing value. Stunning room and space. Huge area. Everything you could need. Very comfortable bed and even though we were only there for a very quick overnight stay we could see that the views were phenomenal. Rebecca was a great host. I also have to comment on the cookies which were amazing. If you are on your way through or in the area for another reason I promise you won’t find better value than this. Good pub in walking distance.

  • Madera Cottage is perfect for a short break, we had such a lovely time. The features really make this cottage, we particularly loved the Aga. We were very lucky with weather and enjoyed walks through the fields in the village (watch out for the cows) along with recommendations in the welcome book. If you have a furry friend chopwell forest and derwent are both lovely and less than 10 mins drive away. We had dinner delivered by the feathers as a treat which was delicious. Kirsty is an excellent and responsive host, she was even kind enough to wait in for our groceries when we were delayed. I can't recommend her or this cottage highly enough.

    Lisa2016-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great little cottage with a fantastic pub a short walk away. Fantastic base for visiting the North East. Kirsty's communication regarding the booking was excellent and made the whole process very easy!

    Katy2016-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Loved staying at Madera Cottage - nice cosy stone cottage in the countryside, away from all the hustle and bustle. Enjoyed the fireplace and using the Aga cooker, and really appreciated the breakfast hamper, especially as we arrived around 6pm and hadn't had time to get to the shops. The local pub was literally a few minutes walk down the road and the dinner there was great! Thanks for a great stay Kirsty

    kerry2016-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • My two friends and I had a lovely stay at Kirsty's cottage over the weekend of our friend's wedding up at Healey Barn (about 6 miles away) in April. Kirsty was always available for questions and was really flexible with our check in and out times, which was great as we were coming up from London and Bristol! The pub down the road was lovely, but if you need any other amenities be prepared to have to drive! The area is stunning and I wish we had had the opportunity to make more of exploring! Thanks again Kirsty!

    Emily2017-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • Kirsty was very helpful. She left excellent and comprehensive suggestions on walks, pubs and activities on this beautiful area and I especially liked all the doggie friendly suggestions. She was incredibly helpful and kind in looking after our dog for the day whilst we were at a wedding. We had a very comfortable stay in the cottage made very cosy by the Aga and oodles of hot water. Thank you Kirsty and Jason!

    Caroline2016-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely stay at Madera cottage. Warm and inviting property. Perfect location for a short break or longer stay. We were only there for 1 night but would like very much to return.

    Claire2016-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • We spent 3 nights at Kirsty's beautiful cottage. It really is a little home away from home. It was by far the best equipped AirBnb I've ever stayed in, eggs, bread, cake and milk were there for us when we arrived. With a fire set up ready for us to light. The location is nice and secluded in the hills of Northumberland but not too much of a drive to Newcastle. Would definitely stay again.

  • We stayed for 2 nights, The old stables was a fab place to stay easy to find with everything you needed already provided for you. If you need anything extra there is a Morrisons 15 mins away. The property itself was beautifully decorated with all the small details really thought about. As a interior designer myself it was at a very high standard. Lynn provided a some essentials we would need for our stay which was lovely. I asked Lynn if she could provide a cake and balloon for my partners birthday, this wasn't a problem, and was done for a small fee. We really enjoyed our stay it was lovely to watch the horses out in the field. If it wasn't raining during our stay we would have made great use of the garden areas as these where beautiful and well maintain. You can tell that a lot of hard work goes into looking after the properties and surrounding areas. We took a drive the the water reservoir took about 20 minuets was a lovely view! With a few boats out on the water. We will defiantly be back to the Old Stables as we think it is not only great value for money but a lovely place to stay.

    Matt2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Nicola's place is a great place to stay. There was enough room for all of us in the very spacious rooms. We had a family function nearby, so we didn't make as much use of the facilities as we could have, but I could imagine if you stayed in, you would have everything you needed. Everything was very clean and new. Nicola was very good with communication and the key box at the property made check in very easy. Following the success of our shepherd's hut on Airbnb, we have decided to list some of our holiday cottages as well ! Our Dairy cottage has a double room and a twin room, a modern bathroom, and a cosy living/dining/kitchen area with TV/DVD and a wood burning stove ----- the stove is just for fun, there is gas central heating as well to keep it toasty warm. Set on a working sheep farm, the cottage is a great base for local attractions like Beamish Museum, Durham and Hadrian's wall.
  • Andrew was a great host, gave us infomation on walks we could go with our dog. The location was beautiful, our own back garden and a peacock that came to vist on a morning. Would highly recomend staying!

  • Beautiful location, away from main roads, enjoying nature. The cottage was very clean and everything needed was available. Fireplace in the cottage very cosy at night! Bringing our new dog was allowed and made the location perfect for us. Besides that Andrew was always available for questions, tips or just a chat.

    Kitty2017-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our time here. The Dairy cottage was cosy, clean and comfortable. Location was pretty and quiet but well located for the things we wanted to do & see. Our hosts were great at making my two spirited children feel at home - feeding sheep and visiting the horses. The only improvement that could be made was the shower, which was broken and also went hot & cold without warning - but otherwise I would recommend and would definitively come again.

  • A nice little cottage that's a great base for a holiday in the north east. Clean and with all the basics you need; we didn't spend loads of time there because we were visiting family. Great for a dog (so long as you are careful they don't worry sheep in neighbouring fields). The only two tiny things we would have preferred were a washing machine in the flat (laundry service is available from the host at £3.50 for a large load though). No internet at all either which was a problem as I intended to work remotely. As a nice little place to go for a relaxing country break or to explore the region it's definitely worth looking at.

  • No problems encountered during our stay, there was internet signal but limited to one room, but Andrew told us that he had been having problems worked on when we first arrived.

Ground floor apartment in semi-rural location. Welcoming and relaxing with an eclectic mix of interior decor, books and art. A quiet, end-of-terrace property "full of lovely energy". Located by the River Derwent, surrounded by woodlands, fields and moorland, a great area for walking and cycling. Close to Newcastle, Durham and Northumberland.
Quote: “A fabulous, cosy space with the ambience to go with it”. Previously, we have rented this studio flat out to local residents as a self-catering space for visiting family and friends. It's ideal for solo adventurers, couples or business travellers. Self-contained flat with own front door. A fully-equipped kitchen diner, bathroom with over-bath shower, a large bed-sitting room with very comfortable double sofa-bed and french windows opening out onto private, seated patio area and garden view. There is a smart T.V, Dab radio, Wi-Fi ,board games and a library of books for all your in-house entertainment. There's also drawing and watercolor materials, and a guitar for those feeling creative! Teas, coffee and milk provided. Off road parking available, adjacent to flat, and room for bicycle storage on site.
The apartment is at the end of an alternative, community street. Two rows of brick houses built in the early 1900’s, overlooking beautiful country on both sides with red kites frequently in view. A post office shop a good chippy and an Italian restaurant is a short walk away. A Co-op shop is in the next village 1/2 mile . The award-winning 'The Feathers Inn' is a local for good dining out. Blackhall Mill is a lively community offering yoga, pop-up take aways, Sunday morning Cafe, and a variety of other activities.
  • Jane's place was just what we needed for a tranquil & cosy base to visit Newcastle's cultural spots from. We immediately felt right at home... surounded by books and nicely chosen Art work & furnishings. We brought our 18 month old daughter with us (she also loved the internal environment & the garden). We set up her travel cot in the dining area of the kitchen and she slept there soundly... leaving us ample space in the living area to relax after she had gone to sleep without disturbing her. The sofa bed is extremely spacious and comfortable and the flat is well heated. We also brought our bikes which Jane and her partner kindly stored securely for us in their yard. Our visit was short however we will certainly look to stay again! Jane and her partner were very welcoming and accommodating... we would a stay at their place very highly!!

  • A great place which oozes character & charm. It's very clean & comfortable with everything you could need. Location ideal in quiet countryside but Durham Newcastle Hexham & all North East visitor attractions within easy reach.

  • Jane's place is great. It is peaceful and the location is a perfect gateway to Northumberland and Hadrian's Wall. Newcastle is an easy bus ride away. There is also a cycle path very close by. Jane was a wonderful host. We were given a warm welcome and useful information for getting around and ideas for visiting the area. Highly recommend.

My place is close to parks, restaurants and dining, great views, and art and culture. You’ll love my place because of the cosiness, the views, the location, and the people. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families (with kids), big groups, and furry friends (pets). Whatever your getaway, this is your perfect rural retreat in the heart of the Great British Countryside
  • Just spent 3 lovely days at the cottage. Beautiful countryside and wonderful amenities. Perfect location for getting away from it all. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend and would love to return soon.

  • The cottage was wonderful and very clean. I loved the fire place! It was a classy place.

  • This is a beautifully presented property, which is warm and well equipt. It is located in a very peaceful area with a lovely outlook over the countryside and beyond.

    Jenny2017-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was beautiful and the location was stunning. Nice walks around the woods and about twenty minutes walk to a lovely cosy pub. The only downside was that the wifi wasn't great for the unfortunate times we had to drop in with work but if you are looking to just get away from all that then it's not a problem.

  • Spent a fabulous 3 days at the Old Stables. One of the best self catering accommodations we've been to.

  • There is little about about this place that isn't spot-on perfect! Fabulous location and truly comfortable accommodation with many thoughtful features. An absolute treat to be there and we didn't want to leave. Lynn's hosting skills are wonderful and the entire experience leaves you feeling that she has provided something very unique. We will be back!

  • A gorgeous, well kitted out, spotlessly clean cottage with thoughtful touches like a kitchen hamper and bathroom accessories. Very comfortable beds and a great location. Lynn was a great host with outstanding communication. Book with confidence.

  • Amazing, beautiful and lovely place to stay. Andrew was a great host and had the hut spotless. We will definitely be going again

    Anne2017-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing how much has been packed into such a small space. Great communication from Andrew in the lead up and he went above and beyond checking if taxis would pick us and our small dog up from the pub. Downside, not really walkable to a pub (hour and a half on an A road) and the toilet blocked due to a previous guest putting a baby wipe down it - please guys - toilet roll only down there

  • Great few days, relaxing in a lovely setting. Great facilities in the hut. Perfect base for exploring Northumbria and areas.

  • Ben's Hut is a lovely place to stay at, very clean and handy! The landscape around is amazing with lots of sheep (including Jacob sheep!) and horses. We enjoyed our stay here, and that is also thanks to Andrew who was a great host. Thanks! It is also very well located between Durham and Hadrian's wall, and therefore a perfect place to visit the region.

    Lucie2017-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • We thought Ben's Hut was an excellent place to stay for a couple of nights. While it is small, it is exactly as advertised and the pictures provided do a great job of showing it. Andrew was of great assistance to us (we were city-slickers and got stuck in some mud), and we would definitely stay here again if we pass through the area. Not intended for longer stays, but a wonderful "layover" with excellent location close to anything you might need, but secluded out on the farm. We thought it was beautiful.

    Megan2017-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • The hut was extremely clean and comfortable. The shower was also really good. Andrew was a fantastic host who took time out of his day to show our 9 month old the animals. A lovey little getaway, in a great location. Well worth a visit.

  • Such a lovely cottage we had such a lovely time would defiantly recommend

  • We stayed here during our visit to Durham for our Son's graduation. The cottage provided us with everything we needed and more. Including when our Son decided to stay with us for one night, Lynn brought extra bedding straight away. The cottage is immaculately clean, beautiful and good quality furnishings. It felt luxurious and really welcoming. The provision of food essentials on arrival was such a great touch. Lynn was quick to respond to every enquiry. Sadly Lynn couldn't do anything about the weather which was constant drizzle then rain, but if she could have I'm sure she would! Thankyou very much Lynn. Jane, Ed, Lola & Jamie.

  • The Old Stables is a truly beautiful place to stay - the apartment was very clean, had all possible facilities, including the best barbecue Ive used. There are marvellous walks and the views are stunning. If you are looking for a quiet place to stay that is in the countryside and luxurious I can recommend no better place. Thank you once again Lynn was very helpful and was always responsive if we had any questions.

  • Wonderful Christmas with my boys, stunning views and gorgeous cottage, we have family that live in consett so was easy to come and go over the Christmas, lovely pub not far away (old mill), the lady who was looking after the place (Jackie) Was so helpful and lovely, Thank you. We will certainly be staying again rather then the derwent manor.

  • On this occasion we were only using the cottage as a 'pad' to stay in while visiting relatives nearby. However the accommodation was so beautifully presented, equipped, and comfortable, and the location so lovely that it merits more serious attention on another occasion!

  • We have had the most perfect weekend at this gorgeous cottage. The welcome pack was a great touch, the interior was decorated to a very high standard. The cottage was spotless and we loved the outdoor area with the fire pit.. we can't wait to come back in the summer!

  • We enjoyed 3 peaceful days at Cottage no.2. The place was clean and beautifully decorated with a lovely view. Lynn was prompt in any communications and suggested this cottage as it had more space to accommodate all our guests. Check in was easy and we were wowed by the welcome pack - especially enjoying the local eggs. We picked this location as it was only a short drive to Beamish and Durham. This cottage was great value for money considering it felt very luxurious. I would definitely recommend staying here. We didn't have a dog but I imagine this would be an exceptional stay for dog owners too.

Following the success of our shepherd's hut on Airbnb, we have decided to list our holiday cottages as well. The Forge cottage is set on our working sheep farm, on the Durham Northumberland border. Ideal for couples, or people traveling on their own, the cottage is a great location for local attractions such as Beamish Museum, Durham, Newcastle, Kilhope lead mining museum etc., but it's also great for those looking for peace and quiet and country walks !!
  • Andrew and Lisa were friendly and helpful hosts. The scenery around the cottage was beautiful and the location was perfect for all our outings. The cottage suited our needs well, as everything we needed was provided.

  • Lovely cottage with very friendly and welcoming host. Stunning location.

    Alice2017-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • Andrew is a really great host, who goes the extra mile. Firstly we turned up an hour early, but he was fine with that. Forge Cottage is a lovely little place to see this area from. Bright and clean with all you need for time away. The furniture is comfortable enough with a couple of sofas and a dining chair and tables in the living room/dining room/kitchen combo. There is a TV to watch and a log burner for the cold evenings. The kitchen has a combi boiler for hot water to the sinks and shower/bath, but also for the radiators in each room. The bed needed the centre prop put back into position to stop it banging when we laid on it. Perhaps over-vigorous guests previously!? The bed was comfortable enough for me, and there was a wardrobe and a couple of bedside chests to store our stuff in. Take soap and shower gel as there is none provided, but sufficient clean, fresh towels are. I didn't get the hang of the shower over the three nights we were there. The temperature seemed to go up and down at random, but never enough to burn. I had hoped to go to the Beamish Museum, but I pulled a muscle in my back and was unable to ride the motorbike we were touring the UK on. I was worried how I would get to the next AirBnB that I had already booked. A quick message to Andrew and he agreed to put it under cover cover for me whilst I had a few sessions with a chiropractor at my next stop. As luck would have it, and a great deal of paracetamol and ibuprofen, I was feeling much better at the end of the stay so managed to ride the bike without problem. The test of a good host is not when things are going well, but when something goes awry for the guest and they need help. Andrew was a shining example of how it should be done. The other thing that can make and break a place are the other guests, but we were fortunate that we were there with a respectful bunch in the other cottages, and but for the odd conversation outside the window when someone was loading their car to leave, and the kids laughing at play, it was a very quite time. The acid test for me is whether I would go again. The answer in this case is a resounding yes.
