This cozy and spacious log cabin is perfect for a secluded get-away weekend or a big family reunion. Located just 2 hours from the DC Beltway, it's nestled in 44 acres of woods, with spectacular mountain views. Fully equipped - A/C, Heat, Fireplace The main floor has a huge great room with living and dining area connected (email hidden) kitchen. An enormous wall of windows (all the way up to the cathedral ceilings) means you spend your whole day looking at a beautiful mountain view. Upstairs is a loft, also looking out at the view, with a cozy sitting area, a full shower stall bathroom, and two nice bedrooms with one queen sized bed in each. Back on the main floor is the master bedroom, also with a queen sized bed, and nice master bath with a tub shower, and a half bath off the kitchen. This main level also has a nice, shady front porch, a huge deck looking out over the mountain view, and a cozy and comfy screened-in back porch - and a charcoal grill for outdoor BBQs. Downstairs is a finished basement that is sort of a recreation room and dormitory area. One queen sized bed, one full bed, and one twin bed, a pool table, a big sectional couch, and a TV and video game area make this large open (email hidden) for kids or teens to hang out. A full bath with a tub shower, an extra queen mattress and six IKEA twin foam mattresses make (email hidden) for a big sleep-over. There is the quaint small town of Moorefield very close by, with a few shops, a few restaurants, a Walmart, a nice bowling alley, and a movie theatre. Close by is the South Branch of the Potomac River with lots of tubing and fishing. Not too far away is Seneca Rocks and in the other direction is Lost River. But you may just want to hang out, read a book, enjoy the silence and the beauty, cook a big meal, enjoy a drink with friends, and go for long walks on the country lanes. Sorry! No pets :(

  • This house was amazing! Everything was clean and as described in the listing. The views are awesome and we enjoyed many beautiful sunsets on the deck. Floyd was very helpful and responded to emails quickly. Although the house is remote, we were still able to visit many places in about 1-2 hrs (I was worried before we came that they'd be too far away): Seneca Rocks, Seneca Caverns, Smoke Hole Caverns, Spruce Knob, Blackwater Falls, Dolly Sods.

  • Incredible! I can confirm that the cabin is even more beautiful in person. We brought together friends from many different places and felt right at home. Spacious and cozy, unreal views, and even though the snow presented some driving difficulties it was so worth it! Really can't say enough positive things. Floyd was wonderful, a kind and accommodating host much better than myself at timely replies. Very helpful with directions and etc. Highly, highly recommend!

    Jessica2015-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • The views from the cabin, and the cabin itself, are beautiful. I would highly recommend staying here. Thanks, Floyd!

  • Floyd Starnes was very easy to approach and answered all our questions about the property promptly and helpfully. The property is a beautiful one and very nicely kept up. The kitchen was nicely furnished with all that was needed for cooking, including an array of spices, lots of coffee cups, a good coffee maker, a microwave, etc. In all it was a great experience. And the setting is absolutely beautiful, though very remote.

  • It is hard to describe just how amazing La Finca is. The house itself is incredibly charming, with lots of space to spread out. It seems "lived in", but not at all in a bad way. I simply mean that it doesn't feel stuffy like a rental sometimes will. The bedrooms are perfect, and provided everyone with their own space. The outdoor space was heavenly, especially with us getting 70 degree days with sunny skies the whole weekend! The stars at night...there are no words. We wanted a place that would allow us to show up, bring a bunch of food and drinks, and just hang out. This was beyond perfect. Floyd is a wonderful host, and his helpful hints prior to our arrival were incredibly important. We felt perfectly prepared before we had even left. USE HIS DIRECTIONS! I can't stress that enough. The mountain itself can get a bit confusing, as we learned the next day when we tried to make it back to the cabin without our cheat sheet! In short, the best compliment we can pay both Floyd and Carlos, along with their beautiful home, is that we are already planning to make this a yearly pilgrimage. Thanks for a wonderful weekend!

  • Second year coming to this house. We had a large group and the home was perfect... again. Relaxing and comforting house that makes you truly feel at peace. Floyd is THE BEST host, amazing communication and so so generous.

    Craig2017-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • We went up to the cabin to get away for the weekend and it could not have been a better experience. Floyd was very helpful throughout the process and made us feel very comfortable travelling to a new place. The cabin was wonderful with great views and a ton of space inside and out. We brought a lot of food to cook and the kitchen was very well stocked to make amazing meals. Going to the cabin wasn't like the hotel or bed and breakfast experience where you never quite feel at home. We felt at home immediately and it made for an unbelievably relaxing weekend. I highly recommend this cabin to nature lovers and those looking for a nice getaway. I will definitely be going to La Finca anytime I need some cabin time. Thanks, Floyd for sharing your cabin with us.

  • Floyd was an incredible host! He was super helpful leading up to our weekend trip, and provided excellent driving directions and instructions for the house. We were able to cook a huge shrimp boil feast in the awesome kitchen, and Floyd had every type of pot and serving dish we could ever need. The house itself is beautiful, as is the surrounding West Virginia countryside. Would come back in a heartbeat!!

We strive to make this self-serve guest house a comfortable place to spend a week or a weekend with family or friends. Simply but adequately furnished rooms with attention to cleanliness, home-baked goodies, and downtown location make it unique.
The only self-serve guest house in downtown Romney, this 2-bedroom home is located 1 block from Main Street and adjacent to the historic Wilson-Wodrow-Mytinger House. Beautiful hardwood floors, simply furnished bedrooms (1 queen room, 1 room with 2 twin beds, crib available), living room, dining room and kitchen make this a perfect home away from home. Guests enjoy serve-yourself breakfast from the fridge and home-baked bread. Restaurants, library (with internet), churches and shops are only a short walk away. If you are looking for accommodations right in downtown Romney, this is the perfect spot. It is a great choice for travelers wanting more than just a room. The guest house is within walking distance of restaurants, boutique shopping, banks, the library, and the visitor's center just at the corner of Gravel and High Streets. History buffs will enjoy a trip to the Civil War Trenches site just outside of Romney which offers a self-guided tour with fascinating information about this location during the battles between the North and South. These are the best-preserved trenches of their kind in the country. You'll also be staying next door to the oldest house in Romney/oldest public building still standing in West Virginia. Your hosts can help guide you to other places of interest. For those of you looking for outdoor adventure, there is great hiking on all the wildlife management areas near Romney. They are all listed on the Hampshire County Visitors Bureau website. The C&O Canal bike path is another option about 45 minutes away. The Appalachian Trail is a bit further away -- about an hour if you start in Wardensville, WV. One really neat spot is Ice Mountain run by The Nature Conservancy in Slanesville, WV, about a 35 minute drive from Romney. You need to contact TNC for access. If you are making a winter trip, there are about 3 locations within 2 hrs for downhill skiing or tubing -- Wisp(in Maryland), and Canaan Valley and Timberline in WV. If you like cross-country skiing, you would probably love New Germany State Park in Maryland (about an hour plus away). For those who hunt or fish, opportunities are abundant for both on public lands. We can help you with contacts. We do our best to add a unique touch to your stay by offering breakfast items which include home-baked goodies. There will be wine and cheese when you arrive to accompany our own french bread. We incorporate many green actions such as line-drying laundry, recycling, and buying local when possible. Because we are very busy with our regular jobs and lives and live outside of Romney, we do need some advance notice to accommodate guests.
The guest house is located in a residential neighborhood just one block from downtown. There are several interesting shops in the downtown area as well as the public library, courthouse, pharmacy, small grocery store, and a couple restaurants, and sports bar.
  • I've stayed at the Gravel Lane Guest House several times and keep coming back when visiting Romney. There are so many touches that make you feel at home starting with the home baked breads & muffins, the homegrown fruits & veggies, and the eggs from the hosts' chickens. The location is perfect situated in the heart of Romney. The porch is perfect for lounging and waving to the locals walking by. The hosts are very responsive and attentive whether there is a question about the house or advice about the area. The perfect place to relax in this charming town.

  • It's our first Airbnb experience-- Definitely will come back whenever we come in town again. Dottie/Lowell are amazing and communicate whenever I need or have question. My children felt home and the environment is so relaxing and it's nice to get away from the city! Thank you. ❤️

  • Perfect long weekend!!We enjoyed each minute thanks to the great advice received from them.

  • What a charming place! I'm a veteran Airbnb'er, staying at spots all over the country and abroad. So, I can say honestly that Lowell & Dottie's generosity and hospitality are unmatched in the Airbnb-sphere. 2 Chicago school friends who graduated 8th grade in 1973, one of whom lived nearby in Three Churches, and I met up for a mini-reunion/old lady slumber party. This was the perfect spot for it! We didn't miss TV or internet (cell service was fine). Dottie left us homemade coffee cake and bread which were AMAZING! The place was spotless and generously stocked. We visited Smoke Hole Caverns and Seneca Ridge, and can recommend them both as a great day trip. Flying in to Dulles was convenient enough at 2 hours away. Give yourself 3+ to deal with potential DC traffic and rental car return.

    Melissa2014-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed one night in the guesthouse. Room was pleasant. No WiFi which caused us some trouble. During the stay our hosts were not available, but before arriving we had good email contact with Lowell & Dottie who helped us with advice for our travel. Dottie took good provision for food, having prepared home-baked bread and sticky buns as well as a glass of red wine.

    Steen2013-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • This trip was a birthday present for my wife and Dottie helped make it a special and memorable occasion by offering sight-seeing and dining suggestions. I must mention that the house was super clean-very important to my wife and the baked goods and breakfast supplies were excellent. Our only regret was that we had to leave early Sunday morning to arrive home before Sandy. Thanks for a great weekend!!

    Bob2012-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • It suited our need perfectly. Everything needed in easy walking distance. With a family get-together to celebrate graduation, family members were able to sit around and visit in the living room, dining room, or on the porch in a more relaxed less formal environment than a hotel.

    David 2014-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • What a great experience. We were disappointed that we could not return the same way and take advantage of this quiet, comfortable house next door to historic Wilson-Mytinger-whoever House. Lowell and Dottie had stocked the refrigerator with the essentials for breakfast, and with a local wine!!, and had Dottie's great homemade bread ready to eat and sticky buns ready to reheat for breakfast. Oh, I forgot the local peaches. The wonderful selection of books tempted my 12 year old and me to stay up WAY TOO LATE. We were honored to be their first guests and just disappointed that our crazy schedule did not allow for time to meet Lowell and Dottie and take advantage of the myriad of things in the area. I can't wait to go back...probably for a train ride through the countryside and maybe timed for music or crafts festival. The fire alarm went off when we were (URL HIDDEN) 12:30 a.m.,but of course Sabrina and I were up reading! After we got it reset, we realized that it was nice to know that it was there. The drive into DC is really nice from Romney, as well. Thanks,Dottie and Lowell. Hermione,Tom,Sabrina, and Carol

Everything but food provided! Brand new, high-end cabin overlooking a stocked fishing pond. The house sits in the center of the 48-acre wooded property. Hiking, fossils, bon fires, nextdoor distillery, & more! Cell and internet-free sanctuary!
Just completed in 2015, this cabin has all of the comforts of a fully air-conditioned house. All décor and furniture is high-end and very clean. We provide everything you will need except for food, including water, coffee, toiletries, towels, etc. We will never ask you to "clean up after yourself", as some listings do. Instead, we have a mutual respect for our guests, and simply ask that you do your best to let go of your daily stresses. It is a getaway, and we want you to relax! A new craft distillery has opened within walking distance of the cabin! The 47.79 acre property has mostly wooded rolling terrain, with deep ravines and ridges easily navigable by maintained trails. The stocked pond sits just downhill, and within view, of the cabin--and is easily accessed by a short walk.
Everything but food provided! 2 1/2 hours from the D.C. Beltway, Pine Thicket Pond Cabin is roughly halfway between Moorefield and Romney, WV--the two oldest towns in the state. Of special note, there is a new (very good) craft distillery within walking distance of the cabin! For more information, see flyingsquirrelranch.com. It is approximately half a mile away along the road, and we are in discussions with the owner to create a backwoods trail leading to it. They also have a zip line! We provide fishing poles, snowshoes, and fossil hunting gear to make sure that you try something new while here! The Potomac Eagle scenic railway offers rides near Romney, and Nancy Hanks' cabin, Abraham Lincoln's mother-in-law, is close by as well. Seneca Rocks, Monongahela National Forest, Spruce Knob, Smoke Hole Canyon and other scenic hiking destinations are approximately 45 minutes away. Swimming at Trout Pond is a little less than an hour away. The cabin is in a very rural setting, but it is not far to civilization. The neighboring properties are farms, forests, and a nice gentleman who keeps horses.
  • Chris' listing description was perfectly accurate. We got exactly what we expected and much more. Chris gave us excellent directions to the cabin and it was incredibly clean and comfortable when we got there. I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone who's looking to disconnect and relax for a few days. The grounds are also beautiful and we spent a good amount of time wandering the property. Thanks Chris!

  • Super cozy cabin. Great property. All as described. Very clean and new. Truly everything you need except for your own food. Perfect for two couples but could definitely accommodate 6 people if needed. Would definitely come back! Also, love the neighbors dog.

  • This was precisely the long weekend getaway we craved! A quiet, comfortable, spotless cabin in the middle of the woods. The modern space had all of the amenities we needed for a relaxed weekend--but not too many that it took away from the simplicity of a disconnected few days away from DC (yay, no Internet!). We watched movies, cooked easy meals, went birding, read books, took walks and enjoyed a fall foliage train ride on the nearby Potomac Eagle (a little pricey but recommended for the bald eagle sightings alone). Chris was a great communicator, providing a perfect description of the cabin, excellent directions and flexibility.

  • Chris & Chelsea were amazing hosts! They were very quick in all of their responses to all of the questions that I had and provided a lot of great activity suggestions. The distillery that is the next road down is very cool and definitely worth checking out. The owner of the distillery is very friendly and his products are delicious. The cabin is brand new and in amazing shape. There are great views of the forest and the pond from the whole house. I am hoping to stay at this cabin again!

    Jeremy2015-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • I couldn't be more delighted with the weekend I spent with a friend in this lovely location. Chris was very helpful, offering suggestions for groceries and hikes nearby, as well as the delightful new distillery right around the corner (relatively speaking for the middle of the country.) I'm used to having pretty hefty packing for weekends away, but in this case he was as good as his word, providing everything we needed besides clothes and food waiting in the cabin. It was very relaxing. It also made a difference to know that we weren't expected to leave the cabin spotless. Of course we tidied a bit but every time I thought to do more I remembered how he described the place and his intention for it to be restful, and I relaxed a bit more. The only goal for the weekend was to do nothing in a beautiful place, and it certainly was beautiful, and for the most part quiet. We wandered around the trails on the property, cooked simple food, and visited the distillery for our single outing. Restorative. The cabin itself was a pleasure to relax in-intimate but also private enough for two friends to share-I would return with another couple friends if we planned to be out a bit more. I enjoyed the simple, clean design of the furniture and decor. The land, with trails, the pond, deer and birds stopping by, was lovely. I imagine it will only grow in beauty as the new cabin and the grounds immediately surrounding begin to weather and fill in with greenery. I feel lucky to have found this place, and grateful to Chris for making it available. I look forward to returning.

    Amy2015-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Chris did an excellent job at making us feel welcome. He did not know it, but I actually used the weekend to propose. The cabin was incredibly clean and extremely nice, felt like the perfect place to pop the question. It unfortunately rained a majority of our weekend so we didn't get to enjoy too many of the nearby amenities - but Chris had recommendations on just about any outdoor activity you could want to do. We did manage to walk over to the distillery next door, and had a great time there. Chris maintained contact with us and kept us well informed all the way up til the day of the trip. The place was excellent and I strongly recommend it!

    Kyle2016-05-23T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is cozy and beautiful, and exactly as it looks in the photos. It was an amazing experience overall, and the place is highly recommended. It's fully equipped with everything you might need to make your stay easy and comfortable. There're even DVDs for the rainy afternoon! Highly recommended on all accounts.

  • This was our first getaway through Airbnb and I am glad we chose this place. I wanted to get away from the madding crowd for couple of days and this seemingly rustic cabin nestled in the West Virginia backcountry just met the criteria. We mostly trekked in the mornings and drove around the mountains in the afternoon. There are not many eateries around and even though we did not have plans to eat out, we did have dinner at El Puentes (Romney) and I can recommend it for its quality and service. Kids enjoyed the local peaches and nectarines that were not only farm fresh but also less than half the price one pays in DC. The place is just about 2 hours from DC metro and I would suggest taking rt.50 as this is more scenic compared to rt. 7. We loved the serene setup and the hospitality accorded to us by Shari. She is a fine host and I will be watching the availability in fall again.

    Rakesh2014-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Great little cabin. A little rustic, but it has everything you'll need, including wifi, full kitchen, comfortable beds, satellite tv (we arrived just in time to catch the last period of the Stanley Cup finals), and laundry facilities. Great back porch too. Shari was super accommodating, and friendly. She provided incredibly detailed driving directions for me, and was a-okay with my brother and I arriving close to midnight. She even dropped by to welcome us to the cabin. Our stay was short and sweet, but just what we needed to recharge for the remainder of our road trip.

  • We had a wonderful weekend at Just Far Enough Getaway. The property was really beautiful - lots of beautiful woods and nice shade. It was a great place to bring children since they could run around outside. Sharon was a great hostess and very friendly. The place was accurately described and appears as it does in photos. It is a pretty rural area, so we mostly were at the house over the weekend, but this worked well for having 3 young kids in the group and made for a very relaxing weekend to reconnect with old friends.

    Melissa2016-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is a good place to stay for a large group of friends. We had 7 people in our group and there was plenty of sleeping space and enough room around the dining room table for us to enjoy meals together. The woodstove made the place feel very quaint and we used it quite it a bit, but the baseboard heat also works very well, and each room has its own thermostat. The TV is old, but the living room space is relatively small so it doesn't need to be huge to be able to see anything. The kitchen is stocked pretty well with assorted condiments, coffee, tea, and most supplies that you could think of needing for cooking. We just hung out in the cabin for the two days we were there, so I can't speak to any entertainment that might be nearby. Shari was a very nice host, and greeted us shortly after we arrived and came by the next day to make sure everything was going well and to bring us more wood for the stove. The downsides are that the cabin has a pretty distinct moth-ball smell that takes some time getting used to. It would've been nice to be able to open windows for fresh air but it was snowy / freezing when we were there so that wasn't really an option. The wifi is indeed slow and cut out a bit, but it's manageable. There's minimal cell service depending on your carrier. There also were a lot of stink bugs in the cabin. They don't bite, so it's not that big of a deal, but it was a little bit of a nuisance.

    Amanda2015-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • A fabulous place to get away! Pristine, clean, gorgeous property! Shari was so very gracious and helpful through the whole process. Would love to come back!

    Just Far Enough Getaway

For your next family getaway, trip with friends, or romantic retreat, escape to "West Virginia Cabin in the Woods," an inviting mountain lake cabin. Nestled in a private mountain range, this all-cedar vacation rental cabin includes complete access to a private 50-acre community lake with beach. Look forward to breathing in fresh, crisp air and enjoying the peaceful sense of silence, only broken by the sounds of birdsong and laughter.
This beautiful, new cedar cabin features 2 bedrooms, 2 large loft areas, 1 bathroom, and enough sleeping arrangements for 10 or more guests throughout 1,500 square feet of tastefully appointed living space, making it an ideal home base for your next visit to wild and wonderful West Virginia. You'll feel as though you've entered a whole different world upon your arrival at the property, which is located just 2 hours and 15 minutes from the capital beltway. Your favorite relaxing spot will quickly become the cabin's huge 12-by-45-foot deck, boasting amazing views of the treetops, mountains, and sunset, plus glimpses of the lake beyond, once the leaves fall. Sit back in one of the deck's reclining chairs and enjoy the sunshine during the day and the twinkling night sky, emblazoned with more stars than you ever dreamed existed. Attached to the deck is a roomy screened-in porch, which seats 6 guests with a patio couch and comfortable chairs. The screened porch is perfect for reading, relaxing and talking. A private 7-person hot tub right outside on the deck completes the picture. In the hot tub, you can soak your cares away and admire the spectacular wooded scenery surrounding the premises. Numerous invigorating jets propel the hot tub's healing waters to relax and soothe you, as bright multicolored lights, 2 waterfalls, and a volcano jet add to the excitement. It's a fabulous place to watch the stars and morning sunrise. The deck also has a gas grill for barbequing burgers, fish or veggies. Relax in sunny greenery and have a wonderful time! Cabin in the Woods is cozy enough for a couple, yet large enough for a group of good friends or the entire family. All the amenities you want in your ultimate home-away-from-home are here, including central air conditioning and heat, high-speed wireless internet access, and a lovely stone propane fireplace. After preparing a tasty meal in the quaint full kitchen, gather with your companions in the massive dining room that seats 10. The dining room is surrounded by windows on 3 sides with glorious wooded views. The huge oak table is perfect for playing games together - take your pick from the many board games provided in the dining room cabinet, including Scrabble, Scattergories, Life, Jenga, Settlers of Catan, Candyland, Chutes and Ladders, as well as playing cards, dice, and ping pong paddles and balls. The cabin's welcoming master bedroom offers a nice queen-sized bed with cedar cabinets, a delightful stained glass window, 16-foot high ceiling with fan and trapezoid windows, and a private door leading out to the 12-foot square screened-in porch, and to the hot tub. The second bedroom is a snug bunk room with a set of bunk beds for 2, complete with storage drawers under the bunk. Additional sleeping arrangements can be found in the cabin's 2 roomy loft spaces, which are carpeted. These are true lofts, and though kids can stand up in them, most adults cannot, yet they are very comfortable to sleep and sit in. Loft 1 is well suited for adults or children, featuring a queen-sized futon on the floor, 2 toddler beds, and a safety gate at the top of the stairs with sturdy rails for your peace of mind. This loft also features 8 windows that let in an abundance of natural light and comfortable carpet for playing or lounging. Adults and kids alike will love being able to look down on the living room through the railing from the loft! Loft 2 is a 12-by-12-foot loft over the dining area, offering trapezoid windows looking out to the woods and 2 single beds, with enough spare room to sleep 2 extra guests in sleeping bags easily. Accessible via sturdy pull-down ladder, the second loft is especially fun for teenagers but not suitable for small children, as the opening for the ladder does not close.
Lake Ferndale is stocked with fish, including small mouth bass, and is a great place to do a little fishing. Additionally, Lake Ferndale is a perfect spot to bring your kayak or canoe for some easy paddling. There's a place to launch your boat, and since only electric motors are allowed, everything stays quiet and still - it's a lovely lake to boat! Those seeking more adventurous waters should head 2 miles over to the South Branch of the Potomac River, a popular destination for boating, fishing or tubing. Cabin in the Woods sits on 6 acres of forest in an unspoiled environment, making it an ideal accommodation choice for nature enthusiasts. Climb up the mountain through the Hardwood Forest of tower oaks, black walnuts, red and white maples, wildflowers and ferns, and you are likely to find some of the native wildlife on the property such as birds, turtles, frogs, or land salamanders. There are nesting pairs of bald eagles nearby, and in the spring and summer, they will sometimes soar for 20 minutes right over the property. In addition to the Potomac River, Cabin in the Woods sits close to numerous State and National Parks, the historic Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad, and many important historical sites. Hampshire County is the oldest County in West Virginia and the oldest incorporated town, Romney, is the county seat. Originally part of Lord Fairfax's Northern Neck Proprietary, the land here was first settled around 1750. Hampshire County and its surrounding area have a vast, rich heritage steeped in Colonial, Revolutionary, and Civil War history. Stop by the Civil War Museum in nearby Romney to view its fascinating collection of historic artifacts and weapons! No matter what season you plan to visit West Virginia, you certainly won't have a shortage of exciting things to see and do. Whether you choose to spend the majority of your time here sunning on the beach, swimming in the lake, fishing, reading a book in the screened porch, or simply relaxing on the deck while observing the night stars, this delightful Lake Ferndale vacation rental cabin will not disappoint - reserve "West Virginia Cabin in the Woods" today for a fun-filled getaway you won't forget anytime soon!

Private wooded campground by a shallow river. Great for families or a group of friends. You must bring all your supplies.
  • This place was awesome, scary at night and a little tricky to get to, but totally worth it. It felt close to a scary movie experience in a totally cool way. All the land around is privately owned so you may hear hunters or animals in the distance. Depending where you get lost you might run into abandoned houses or hunting trailers. The landscaping is perfect for lots of tents. I highly recommend walking towards the little cement bridge at night to look at the stars, absolutely breath taking. We will definitely consider doing this again in the near future. Austin is also great, we bombarded him with calls and texts every moment we were able to obtain signal on our phones while lost and he was very helpful.

    Luisa2013-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Unfortunately, a family emergency kept us from our trip at the last minute so we were unable to visit Austin's listing. However, Austin was very responsive and helpful in providing details about the site and other logistics leading up to the trip. I hope to get another chance to check it out.

  • This is really beautiful spot. There is a lot of privacy making it a good place to really get away and leave the city behind. I had a couple of questions prior to my trip and Austin responded straight away both times. I will be back!

  • A wonderful location for camping off the grid and a wonderful host - can't ask for much more.

  • We were looking for a private, secluded place to camp for a few nights and this campsite was perfect. Our main concern was that we'd have a hard time finding the property since we wouldn't be arriving until after dark, but Austin's detailed directions got us there without major problems (we did pull off the road too soon but it was obvious that we made a mistake). When we did arrive we found a small fire pit in a clearing big enough for a few tents. The campsite itself was just what we wanted: large, quiet, and no other people around. The property was gorgeous with a drying riverbed to explore during the day (look for crawfish) and stargazing at night. A perfect weekend spent hanging out by a fire and we're looking forward to more just like it.

  • If you want to camp in a tent or hammock and get away from everything, this is your spot. It's truly a gem in the airbnb camping niche . I have had the pleasure of staying at this location in 3 out of 4 seasons and it is a joy each time around. The campsite is not necessarily on top of the river, but it's only a 5-10 minute walk. Using the road in the summer months is your best bet as the other paths with likely be overgrown. If you do intend to go in Summer please be aware that there are many snakes and black widow spiders in the area. They are really non-violent spiders so as long as you are mindful of your surroundings you can really enjoy seeing these beauties in the wild. I've been to plenty of airbnb camp sites and cabins st this point, this is by far my favorite. Enjoy your stay, bring a hammock!

This is a beautiful 7 1/2 acre riverside, mountain side lot to accompany tents, campers or rv's. Great location for weddings or get togethers. Porta potty, Pet friendly
This beautiful property is located on 7 1/2 acres of flat grass land on the Norh River next to a large mountain. Its located on st rt 29 south across from the Green Lane Cemetery in Agusta West Virginia. There are steps to get down to the river for fishing or wading. Shower (Hot Water) and running water included Things to do: Potomac eagle scenic railroad, trough general store and canoe rentals, lost river trading post, smoke hole caverns. For legal purposes: I am not responsible for any loss, theft, damage, injuries or death under any circumstances. There is wild life everwhere and a road near by. You are responsible for keeping the place clean, picking up trash and extinguishing fires. There will someone stopping by from time to time but you are pretty much on your own. There are no facilities, showers only an outhouse
Mountains and the river. In the middle of no where but 5 miles from a gas station and restaurant. Pet friendly
  • Very nice campsite. Over 7 acres fenced in and pet friendly. You are right on the river and have privacy at this lot. its right off a main road so you dont have to worry about it being hard to find or bad roads. There is a local gas station a few miles down the road. The owners are always adding new features and have plans to do more. Currently there is a swingset and sand box for kids. Electric hookup for campers. We will definately be back again.

  • Ron and his plot of land are absolutely wonderful. He is very nice and is quick to respond to any/all questions. The property is a large field that's fenced in with a woodline on the far side with a walkdown to a pretty nice stream/creek. The creek was pretty big (Springtime) while we were there so it was more like a river. The whole experience was very hospitable and we will definitely come back.

    Adam2017-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • We rented this camp site for 3 months. It is located right off of a main road which makes travel to the location super easy. It is a huge fenced in site that is safe for children and pets. There is enough power hook up there for multiple campers/popups. The owners are super nice and very accommodating. One of the things we enjoyed most compared to others camp sites is the privacy you arent camping with hundreds of other people walking through your camp sites. There is a nice section of the North Branch right behind you that is great for fishing or floating. We truly enjoyed our summer here and plan to do it again next year.

A hidden mountain-top retreat from whatever ails you, featuring your own award winning private chef.
THE PROPERTY The "cabin" is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath small log home nestled in a 20 acre wooded parcel in a community abutting 10,000 acres of protected wildlife preserve. 2.5 hours from DC, it's 20 minutes of winding mountain gravel from the nearest paved road, offering nearly complete isolation. The nearest full time neighbor is 2 miles away. The view is a mixture of mountain and woods and the elevation is just enough to offer the perceived effects of "mountain air." It's great for relaxation and deeper sleep. We have spectacular sunsets to help you settle into the right evening mood, and clear night skies of star-gazing to help keep you there. During the day, the wildlife is varied and abundant including everything from many different types of deer to bears to wild turkeys, and some of the best bird-watching in the area with peregrine falcons, hawks, hummingbirds, even frequent sightings of the elusive scarlet tanager. You're welcome to enjoy it all on a rigorous hike or right from the comfort of the cabin. Either way, this is not a very touristy place to be, so come intent on long country drives to see anything else or just settle in for some true relaxation. BED AND ... BREAKFAST? Before coming to the country, I was an award winning chef, cookbook author and DC restaurateur featured in the single edition Celebrated Chefs of DC (DC's top 50 chefs). Food is included. For breakfast, lunch and snacking there is almost always cereal, yogurt, fruit, cheese and crackers, microwave popcorn, coffee, tea, something for lunches and some kind of chocolate. The grocery store is quite a drive and restaurants are few. You're welcome to what's in the house, or to bring additional items you want around. For dinner, please let me know any dietary requirements or preferences you have and I'll work something up. I can accommodate any special diets and am happy to cook for you. There's some regular home cooking in the pictures. YOUR ROOM The room is a small private walk-out with a double bed. There is a guest bath for your exclusive use. ACCESS You have full access to the entire house and property including entertainment features like Wifi, wireless printer and 36" flat panel TV with Netflix, Amazon Prime and major network streaming news channels. Come and go as you please at any time of the day or night. THE AREA Historic Moorefield is a small city surrounded by farms and a little manufacturing influence. If you're into photography and scenic drives, the farms dotting the landscape are a great opportunity. Petersburg and Romney are both within driving distance for a day's trip if you're intent on hunting down history, but if you're coming to relax then park the car and pretend you don't know how to get anywhere (because you won't). FEE DETAILS I change the sheets and generally clean before and after each guest. As this is remote, the grocery store is about 40 minutes away and I make a trip for each reservation to make sure everything's topped off. Rather than raise the nightly rates, there is a one time "cleaning fee" of $40 no matter how long the visit to cover all of that. The $30 extra per night for couples covers food.
  • I had a restful two-night stay at Gordon's remote WV hideaway, which was exactly what I wanted for my mini writing retreat. The house is cozy and well-maintained, and the scenery was lovely. I also brought my dogs along for the weekend, and they had a great time scampering around on the deck and exploring all the good smells along the secluded road. Gordon is a very accommodating host, and he made me wonderful meals (such a bonus!). While the house is definitely off the beaten path, it's not terribly far to local activities...I never left the house except to walk the dogs or look at the stars, which was exactly what I wanted. I would recommend Gordon's place to anyone looking for a restful getaway...thanks for the hospitality!!

    Stephanie2016-06-27T00:00:00Z
  • The house was adorable and the listing was accurate. It is on the smaller side and the room is a tight fit for 2 people but it's a nice and clean place. Gordon was a great chef who worked well with my friend's food allergies and sensitivities. Unfortunately, it was rainy and we didn't get to hike much but that can't be controllled. The area is beautiful-the road to the house has a lot of curves-heads up of you get carsick.

  • Spectacular view through the window-filled wall facing the mountains in the living room. Wonderfully secluded location with modern amenities and clean. Enjoyed hammock time looking out to the mountain view with a cup of coffee in the morning. Bedrooms are downstairs and have walkout patio area through sliding glass doors. Bed was very comfortable. Separate bathrooms. Guests are welcome to adjust house temperature. Unique and fun life experience to watch a skilled chef prepare your dinner and provide tailored instruction. The meals were truly personalized, delicious, and cooked with feeling. We enjoyed free flowing conversation and appreciated the authenticity. Gordon was welcoming, inclusive, as well as attentive to requests and positively responsive to direct communication. Wildlife "encounters" included a deer (a.k.a., Becky) that took a nap right below the deck, a hummingbird, and carpenter bees... they count too!

    Kelly2016-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Just enjoyed a very restful stay in Gordon's idyllic hilltop home. While we took lovely hikes every day, just out the front door, the bulk of our time was spent at the house decompressing from busy city life, and this is the perfect place to do it: comfy couches, a deck overlooking the mountains, birdsong in the air... And in the evenings, Gordon presented us with exquisite dinners-- truly the best meals this foodie has had in a long time. Just a delightful experience. And a shout out to West Virginia as well, where I had never spent time before-- it's a beautiful place with terrific people and much to discover.

    Anne2016-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • Gordon was an excellent host- dinner was awesome, and his cabin in the woods was as lovely as we had hoped. I can definitely recommend him to anyone looking to unplug from life for a bit.

    Leigh2016-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay with Gordon was idyllic, perfect in every way imaginable, and far exceeding our already high expectations. We hoped for interesting and tasty meals and received out-of-this-world, I-think-I-just-died-and-went-to-Heaven, world class cooking instead!!! (There is a reason Gordon ran one of the most exclusive and well reviewed high-end restaurants in Alexandria, VA, and to think he was our very own private chef!!! How did we fall into this amazing luck????) Words just aren't adequate to describe the serenity and peace we experienced in this mountain-top retreat. If only we hadn't had to come back to the real world, but we will absolutely go back again...and again...and again, and we HIGHLY recommend this unique, VERY UNIQUE, experience to everyone. Don't miss it!

    David and Susan2016-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Gordon welcomed me by meeting me at the private gate of this mountainside community. From there I followed him in my vehicle to his Mountain Side Home where our formal introductions commenced. I arrived around 3 pm which is usually my “Nap” or "Coffee" time. And wouldn’t you know it, I was offered both! I elected for the coffee, because Gordon’s version of my crappy Keurig cups was a fresh crushed, French press, aroma filled wonderful cup of Joe. The coffee was so good I had no need for sugar or milk. With the endless coffee supply flowing, the conversation and tour began........... The listing was everything that Gordon's narrative described and some. For me, his description of the 20-minute drive, from the gate to his home, on a windy unpaved road was an attraction that turned out to be more exciting and awe inspiring than I had imagined. In addition, when I arrived at his home, I was lovingly greeted by Gordon's “Golden year’s” dog Kyle, and the warmth and energy of being one with nature.

    Thomas2016-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Gordon met us at the gate and had us follow him up to the house. Everything was as advertised. Gordon was a very gracious host and the house was very clean. We had a very relaxed and enjoyable weekend. Gordon cooked us very delicious meals. We are part of a CSA and had just picked up our box of produce so he had some goodies to work with. His place is very close to some logging trails which make for good hikes or you can simply relax and sleep in. We did a bit of both. Overall we enjoyed our visit and would love to go back!

  • This was my first experience with AirBnB and I'll definitely be using it again. The cabin was wonderful and Angie is a great host. The location is fairly secluded , but there are a couple of other cabins close by. The surrounding mountains and forests are beautiful! The cabin itself was very cozy, and it felt like staying in a nice home. The treats and breakfast items that Angie left for us were pleasant surprises, too! If you have time, try to visit nearby Winchester, VA on a Saturday. They have a fun street downtown with lots of fun shops and restaurants

  • I just want to give an extra thanks to Su & Philip for showing such great hospitality at their property on the mountain. I am not one who would prefer a fancy hotel in a populated urban area over a quite cabin in the woods. This place is just perfect for a couple or somebody traveling alone as I do for business in WV. After staying through the changing seasons, I made my best decision choosing Su's cabin in Hampshire County WV. Really look forward to staying here again next time in the north WV area for business or family vacation.

  • Beautiful, quiet, lots of nature (eagles, deer, wild turkeys). Place is perfect for a single or a couple. Wonderful hosts, not in the way, but extraordinarily helpful and concerned, if needed.

  • It was a dream! SO beautiful, the pictures do not do it justice. The people were wonderful and the accommodations were just what you would picture in a hallmark movie. My son and I spent the summer here together for some bonding time and it was the best time we had ever had! Su and Phillip were so warm and welcoming. They were always right there to help with anything I needed. I can't wait to see them again and have another stay. Namaste! :)

  • Awesome little cabin with a beautiful view. More than worth the price. Super clean and comfortable, great place to get away. Very peaceful. Asked my fiancé to marry me there, and couldn't have asked for a better place to do it. It was super cold and windy when we stayed but we still couldn't help but be outside by the fire pit and enjoy the view. Owner and property manager are as nice and helpful as they come. We had a perfect experience with them and the property.

My place is close to Romney, great views,. You’ll love my place because of fresh air, beautiful, across from a farm with many horses, the coziness.
It is a utilitarian cabin. Very cute but it is not a hotel room. There is queen futon and queen bed with futon mattress. Bring your own sheets and blanket and towels. No hot water.
The neighbors in front have lots of horses which you can see from the cabin. They are there year around. The neighbor at the end of road and beginning are also there year around. For emergency you may ask for help. We are not responsible for any accidents, damages or loss during your stay. The closest most equipped hospital is in Winchester, Virginia. There is a hospital in Romney for quick help that is 45 minutes away.
  • For when you want to go somewhere to untangle yourself from a highly connected world. Spent 5 nights in this cabin here in April. Phone calls dropped, there was no internet, no email, and no stress! Exactly what I wanted. I was able to text using AT&T just fine, so not completely cut off. Good view of the mountains and night sky (I saw two shooting stars).

  • If you're looking to get away for a weekend to the center of the middle of nowhere, this is a spartan, but plenty comfy accommodation -- roughing it, but not really. The area is lovely, green with tints of fall coming on, a horse farm across the road. The cabin is two smallish rooms -- living room and kitchen combine for one, bedroom and bathroom the other (i.e. probably not made for two people unless you're intimately acquainted). The host is quite responsive and invested in your enjoying her little treasure.

  • A place to unplug and watch the tall grass blow in the wind. Large fields to run around in, woods in the back backyard, and an easy trail to walk and see horses and cows.

  • A charming rustic cabin in a peaceful remote location. The animals across the street were amazing! Nazanin made checkin so easy. It was a relaxing place to come back to after a long day of hiking :)

  • Vince's place was great. The cabins are rustic but Vince gave us great suggestions on what to pack to make for a comfortable experience. The kitchen is well stocked and the property is beautiful!!! There's a communal atmosphere, to the extent you want to socialize. We met some good folks and had a great time. Vince was super helpful, friendly and welcoming.

  • Vincent and his cabin were a wonderful place to get away from the city for a while. Great swimming area to just hangout and enjoy the sun. Highly recommend staying here if you desire some seclusion.

  • Vincent was a great host, he gave great directions to the spot and was there to meet us in the evening. Very friendly, introduced us to other guests. It will be a superb place to stay once he gets the septic system in place-but overall amazing place to cook, relax by the fire and have a lazy day on the idyllic lake. Beautiful mountain views. Because I always want to know about sleep on Air- If you are a light sleeper, it's open-air screened cabins. The beds are firm but fine for a couple of nights sleep. You will hear bug noises when falling asleep (which I loved) and your neighbor campers. Vince does have quiet hours technically starting at 10pm, but unfortunately our neighbors did not take that into consideration.

    Cathy2016-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • My group and I had an amazing weekend stay at these cabins nestled up in the mountains of WV. The scenery is spectacular! Free use of the boats and roaming around the camp's facilities was great. It's a unique feel, because the whole area is essentially an abandoned summer camp, seemingly not in use for several years, yet feels like people could have just been there yesterday. We loved that! The bunks were comfortable and the communal kitchen/dining area was perfect for our group. While Vince could not be there the weekend we were there, he was very responsive to any questions or concerns we had, and made sure our nightime arrival was seamless. We would definitely stay here again!

  • Great weekend getaway! Highly recommend.

  • Really nice, remote campground. Communal kitchen and common areas with lots to do within the camp, and really fascinating local scenery. The cabins were nice, clean with single and bunk beds. Great for larger groups. The kitchen was clean, well appointed and had two larger refrigerators for all of the food we brought. I will definitely be back!

Our rustic river cabin is just feet from the beautiful Cacapon river. We have a huge wrap around screen porch, which almost doubles the cabin space. The beds are comfy and the kitchen is well stocked. Your pets are welcome to join you, but we'd prefer they stay on the porch. We have fishing poles and tubes for you to enjoy, and 3 kayaks (available to rent), as well as a new bbq grill and outdoor games. There are Adirondack chairs by the river bank for your enjoyment and a fire pit.
Our cabin, built in 1935, started life as a hunting cabin. It has been updated since then, but still maintains its rustic charm. The fireplace is large and provides a romantic ambience. The wrap around porch, with a porch swing and several rockers, is the perfect place to sit and watch the river.
The Cacapon River parallels Route 259 (a 2 lane road), so you will hear traffic noise. Our cabin doesn't sit right on the road, but this is not a secluded cabin in the woods. It is really conveniently located for a trip in to Wardensville or access to hiking areas.
  • Fantastic hideaway. Gorgeous cabin. Love the location.

    Sharon2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is very cozy and comfortable, the porch was my favorite spot to take in the sight of the river and listen to the rain. My husband and son really enjoyed the kayaks in the river. It is a very restful place. Thank you, Jeana!

  • Jeana and John's cabin was just what we needed to celebrate our five year anniversary. The cabin was clean and cozy as we checked in for the weekend. The decor and amenities were charming and inviting. We loved eating lunch outside beside the river. We really enjoyed walking beside the river and catching the biggest crayfish we've ever seen! My husband and I both spend a bit of time outside on the screened in porch enjoying Mother Nature. We had a lovely weekend!

    Kayla2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin is great. My wife and I wanted a place to relax that was relatively close driving wise (1- 3 hours from Manassas, VA). Jeana's place fit the bill. The cabin itself is great, right on a river, most everything you could want amenity wise (except for maybe a clothes washer?). Jeana's a gracious host and responds quickly. We had a great time walking through Wardensville, checking out local shops and food, driving and hiking in the mountains, and sitting on the screened porch for lunch and dinners, and resting by a fire at night.

Quiet, antiques-filled, pet-friendly cabin 2 hrs from DC; full kitchen, loft bedroom w king; 2 twin beds; sleeper sofa. Watch sunrise over mtns of Nat'l Forest + gorgeous Capon Valley. Hike, kayak, sleep. Antiques, restaurants, live music, lake, river access 3 miles away.
Bring your partner or friends for a mini retreat from the city. Enjoy this rustic, historic cabin with claw foot tub, rough-hewn log interior and lots of character, situated on 20 acres of private land originally surveyed by young George Washington. Sleeps up to 4 max. NOTE: One bathroom. Non-smoking! NOTE: This is the GUEST cabin that sits a few yards behind our MAIN cabin. The Guest Cabin has outdoor seating in front of and to the side off the kitchen. There are spectacular views to the side of and in front of the MAIN cabin, which I hope you will take advantage of, particularly for the spectacular sunrise and late afternoon brilliant views of the valley, mountains and cow herd across the road. In the winter, you can see the winding Cacapon River that flows north and into the Potomac River. Don't hesitate to stroll around the front of the property and enjoy everything, including the sloping and sunny front field - perfect for a picnic or a night time view of the stars.
Peace and quiet and nature and hiking and kayaking and climbing and antiquing and swimming and sleeping and writing and painting and photography and watching the stars free of light pollution.
  • The light and heat were on when we arrived and the key was on the living room table as promised, creating a very welcoming atmosphere. While the cottage is certainly a log cabin, it is actually a very warm and cozy place with comfortable furniture and beds, and a full kitchen which we used to prepare our meals. Everything worked well. The views in the area, and on the ride in were gorgeous. Vicki's directions were very helpful, which turned out to be important, as our iPhone map got confused and tried to send us about a half mile away from the actual driveway. You are definitely out in the country, so we recommend bringing with you anything you think you might need. Cooking and eating in is a good idea, as there don't seem to be many choices for eating out. All in all, a great experience. We heartily recommend Vicki's log cabin.

    Dale2015-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Vicki was very nice and helpful. We met her at her store and she was available to us if we needed her. The cabin is small and cozy and cute with very old and worn furniture and some antiques. The area is beautiful and the town is nice too. We found everyone friendly and helpful. There are some very nice hiking trails which we enjoyed. The only issue that people should be aware of is that this is a very old cabin (which is charming) but there is a musty smell in the house. Probably people with these sensitivities should not stay here. Some of us were really bothered by this. We cleaned the filter in the dehumidifier which helped some (a lot of moldy stuff in the filter) and we also opened some windows. We were out and about a lot so this was only a problem in the evenings and we were only there a couple of days. The loft area was not as bad. Oh, also know that the wifi does not work in the house. The signal was way too weak. We didn't really need it, so not a problem.

    Judy2016-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to serve as our home base for a weekend around Wardensville! The cabin itself was almost too big for just my wife and I, but we have no complaints at all. The sunrise over the mountains was enough to get us out of bed early in the morning, and the bluegrass concerts at the barn a half mile down the road were enough to keep us dancing until late. All in all, a great little community, and a cozy reprieve. Vicki sent me some good tips in local places to check out, and was perfectly accommodating about my late (11pm) check in. Like the host warned us, the Verizon / T-Mobile service in the area was pretty much zilch, but I was able to get WiFi in particular corners of the cabin. The provided space heaters kept the place warm enough for the 30 degree early-April nights, and again the view was beautiful. Route 259 down below the cabin is pretty busy, but pre-dawn Sunday morning was totally serene.

    Alex2016-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed 3 nights at Vicki's smaller cabin. The drive from DC was very easy, and we had no trouble finding the cabin with GPS. The cabin is rustic but very comfortable. It reminded my wife and I of our grandparents' houses, in all the best ways. The beds are comfortable & the kitchen has all the necessities for meal prep. Great hiking is just a 15-20 minute drive from the cabin. We never met Vicki, but she was also accessible by message when we had questions. Highly recommend this listing, you'll love it.

    Matthew2016-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Vicki was a wonderful host! The cabin was cozy and just what we were looking for. It was an easy drive from DC, but Wardensville and the surrounding areas made for a great escape. There is lots of hiking within a 20-30 minute drive of the cabin (Big Schloss, Tibet Knob, etc.) This was a great first Airbnb experience for us!

    Katie2016-04-10T00:00:00Z
  • Vicki's cabin is adorable and a perfect setting for a weekend getaway. I drove up from DC to get some time to reconnect and relax and this spot was wonderfully serene and peaceful. The interior is quaint and has all the basic amenities you would need. Her view around front is beautiful and driving through the surrounding area was magnificent. This spot is a 30 min drive to the Big Schloss hike / Trout Pond area which I would recommend checking out. There's also a cute cafe / shop in town - Lost River Trading Co (they even had almond milk lattes, which I was so delighted by :) I highly recommend her spot!

    Allie2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Vicki was an awesome host. The cabin was about as good as you can get. Rustic, very chill, in a great setting with great views. Skyline drive is about 45 minutes away and we used the cabin as a home base for exploring. You will not be disappointed staying here and we would definitely stay here again. I can't recommend this enough.

The 2nd floor has huge bathroom (with amazing shower) and bedroom with private deck. The third floor is open, w/deck. There are no blinds or shades on any windows, and the house is very bright.

  • We can't say enough good things! Kevin's place was perfect for an unplugged weekend getaway. The house had everything we needed for a couple and a dog. We loved being able to plug our phones in and listen to our music over the built-in speakers throughout the house. Great grill and back decks that were secluded from neighbors. There were some great local markets and shops around (Woodbine Farmers Market, Wardensville Garden Market, and Lost River Trading Post) that we bought fresh produce at. The locals there recommended Lost River Brewing Company, which we hope to visit next time. We highly recommend to anyone looking to unwind in the mountains!

  • This was a beautiful spot and a very comfortable and stylish house. We were so happy with the whole thing. Kevin is very responsive and attentive to our questions via email during our stay. He's not kidding about having an AWD vehicle. We don't have one, and were fine but it would have been much easier with one. My partner and I agreed that we'd come back to this house without reservation.

The Diamond House is a serene modern retreat deep in the woods of West Virginia on 23 acres, but still only 1.5 hrs from the D.C. area. The Diamond House has vaulted ceilings, hardwood floors, and is filled with windows that provide access to views that stretch for miles and natural light throughout the day. Amazing sunsets. A perfect retreat from the hustle of the city.
Designed by award-winning architect Aaron Poritz (poritzandstudio.com), the Diamond House is a modern, minimalist interpretation of a cabin in the woods. Just completed in 2016, the Diamond House was built facing the southwest so light pours in through varied-sized windows creating angles and shadows that reflect the house's unique, angular design. The open kitchen, living and dining room space upstairs is the perfect spot to gaze at the view over the Warden Lake valley. Downstairs bedrooms stay cool in the summer and open up on to a patio and garden.
Located in the Lost River area of WV. Filled with great country towns, beautiful mountains and valleys. There are farmers markets, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, fishing and access to multiple state parks and national forests and recreation areas. Don't miss out on bluegrass weekends at the local farmers market https://caponcrossing.com/bluegrass-in-the-barn/ And be sure to visit the best trading post in WV https://www.lostrivertradingpost.com/ Great Shenandoah valley vineyards make the trip out and back even more enjoyable.
  • The perfect place to get away. Tiernan and Rachel have built a beautiful and unique home that was a true joy to stay in. Windows galore!

  • My spouse and I had a stellar weekend. We were seeking a quiet getaway in the woods and between the views from the living space and downstairs rooms, time on the deck, and walks along the roads, we couldn’t have had a better time. The open and spacious structure of the house invites a calmness. The ladybugs were very minimal. We were glad to have come with groceries to have meals at the place more so because we didn’t feel the need to leave, but we did get some good espresso and scones in town one morning at the Lost River Trading Post. Internet is not super fast but it became another welcome welcome way for us to unplug. We would love to return for another weekend away one day!

  • Weekend at Tiernan and Rachel’s place was the perfect getaway. Very secluded, clean, modern home with fantastic view. Well-equipped kitchen, comfy beds and a nice shower. We were able to cook great meals, hiked Big Schloss in George Washington National Forest and went to hear bluegrass in the barn down the road on Saturday night. Highly recommend.

  • Peaceful, relaxing, quiet. Very modern and clean. We brought cards and books, snacks and coffee, explored the nearby hikes and loved the recommendations from the hosts for an afternoon canoe trip.

  • If you want to escape the city this is the place for you. The place is very modern and stylish, yet peaceful and quiet. Rachel and Tiernan were easy to communicate with and even suggested things to do while we were there. The view from the living room is beautiful, who needs a TV when you have that view? We loved the large windows and all the light in the living room, even though some curtains or blinds would have been be nice to have in the sleeping section in order to sleep longer in the morning. Don't expect too much of the Wifi, it was very weak, but expect a lot of wildlife around the cabin. It can be useful to know that you can not drink the tap water. We were told that there would be plenty of drinking water in the pantry, but there was not. No big deal, we were passing through Wardensville the next day and could pick up some on the way. The place was very clean but is after all in the middle of the forest so expect bugs invading your space. We very much enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to recommend the place.

    Linn2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Tiernan and Rachel's place is absolutely amazing. It truly is a house in the woods. The views are stunning and the house is designed using minimal and chic decor. The only downside was that we arrived after dark and the house is hard to locate so its best to arrive during the day time.

    Bethel 2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
Merci

  • The bungalow is a perfect getaway location!! The property is secluded enough that you are away from it all, but "town" is just 20 minutes away. The house is bright and cheerful, everything is super clean and new, and each room is full of gorgeous little touches - postcards and puzzles to keep you busy on a rainy day, delicious treats to welcome you upon arrival, information on the area and history. The porch and living room are cozy, the bed and bath linens luxurious, and the kitchen is well-equipped whether you want just your morning coffee or to make a full dinner. Thank you for a peaceful and beautiful visit!

  • Beautiful weekend getaway! Von and David were so helpful and quick to respond to any questions. The house was also packed with amazing amenities from equipment to make smores to extra firewood. The house was beautiful and the location was scenic with nearby trails, a trickling stream that can heard from the porch, and nearby and the night sky was amazing. Would definitely visit this place again.

  • This is a quaint house with all the amenities. Enjoyed the outdoor firepit. We were there for the fishing but the cable TV came in handy to watch baseball. The area is mountains and farms. Very quiet. Have your morning cup of coffee on the porch with the sound of the brook in the background. Only mild surprise was the shortest access from the east up the .mountain turned out to be a gravel road - 609. You can go around on paved roads as an option

  • Von's place was exactly as pictured and offered more than we expected. With thoughtful touches like bluetooth speakers and drink coolers, and beer glasses already in the freezer, we wanted for nothing. It was clean and there were air conditioner units in both bedrooms so we could keep the temperature comfortable. Kitchen was beautiful and well stocked with nice cookware and dining ware. I wish we could stay in this house everywhere we go! Thank you Von and David, we loved our stay!

  • Miss Bessie's Bungalow is the perfect "countryside" respite from DC! I went on a little girl's weekend getaway with three friends and we had such a fantastic time. The Bungalow is absolutely gorgeous - you can tell Von put a lot of thought into the details. It has preserved its small-town Bungalow feel, but also includes every modern amenity you could want, including bluetooth speakers in the bathroom, kitchen, and porch! We used the fire pit (which was stocked with wood), the charcoal grill (we brought our own but everything else we needed to grill, from utensils to lighter fluid, were provided), and spent the majority of the weekend sitting on the large front porch snuggled in blankets and sipping mimosas. In addition to grilling out, we loved the fully-stocked kitchen and two tables to prepare large breakfast/brunches and meals inside. The beds were comfortable, and the Bungalow was surprisingly (and pleasantly) quiet - I'm used to thin DC city living walls, where you hear every passerby's conversation, and it was so nice to sleep in and not hear the coffee grinder downstairs. I can't wait to return!

  • The house was super cute and very clean and organized. It would be a great spot for a girls weekend next time. Our only surprise was that most of the restaurants in the town aren't open M-W so we'd definitely do a weekend next time. That said we went to Trout Lake and it was stunning and there was literally only one other family on the whole lake so mid-week has its perks.

    Ashley2017-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous area in a town where everyone is so friendly. The house was immaculate and absolutely adorable. I went there for a relaxing weekend getaway for my birthday and got exactly that. They left treats for our stay and had a full kitchen of dishes, tools, and seasonings to make cooking easy for us. Everything was layed out perfectly so there was no guesswork. We also went to Bluegrass at the Barn right up the road which was so much fun! I definitely hope to be back again to share this experience with more family!

  • As a professional cook, I spend a lot of time considering efficiency, proper preparation, and the right tools. With that in mind, I was so very pleased with the thoughtfulness, hospitality, and comfy style of Ms Bessie's Bungalow. 1. The outdoor spaces in this house are dreamy. The fire pit, grill, outdoor lights, and gorgeous porch (with wonderful fans to keep cool on humid afternoons) are enough to book this house. 2. The amenities at Ms Bessie's are thoughtful, thorough, and totally practical. We loved the outdoor games, comfortable furniture, tons of natural light, and functionality of the space. The space was clean, well kept, and accurately represented. 3. Communication was thorough and clear with Von and David---they happily answered questions, gave information, and offered support. Delightfully hospitable and clear communication. We loved our stay and would recommend this property to our closest friends and family. Ms Bessie's is a total gem. Thank you Von and David!

Our rustic modern mountain getaway is available for our guests. We have 24 beautiful acres just south of the Green Ridge State Forest which contains an expanse of 47,000 acres for public use. For nature lovers: hiking, cycling, or just walking the C&O Canal Towpath (near mile-marker 157) is only a few minutes away. Visiting the historic Paw Paw tunnel or kayaking on the Potomac River are other nearby activities only minutes away from our home.
Our home is a cabin with wood ceilings and floors, re-purposed wood work, a fireplace, wood stove, full modern kitchen, and a bathroom. We have three decks surrounded by 24 private wooded acres right off of Gorman Road. We have a gas grill available for guest use. There is one neighbor to the right of the house. Up the mountain there are no close neighbors.
We have only one neighbor family that you may see; right next door. They live there full time, and are very nice, so please be respectful and courteous.
  • We had a great experience at this cabin! All the essentials were provided and everything was very clean and organized. The indoors are very warm and beautifully decorated. We enjoyed the comfortable couches! Most of our time was spent outdoors. There are some great porches, a hammock and a nice fireplace. Heather left us some firewood which was nice and unexpected. Bring your own food because the grocery stores are far away and there really are no restaurants. We drove just a few miles to the tunnel and spent the day on a great hike! We are definitely hoping to come back!

  • If you are looking for nature at its finest, a place to unwind and truly relax, this is the place. The cabin provided everything needed for a home away from home stay. Very comfortable beds and couches that surpassed comfortable!! Private and quiet, amazing woods everywhere. Close to so many historical sites, bike and walking paths, and beautiful mountains.

  • We could not have asked for a better experience here!! The house was so nice, clean, and well-decorated. We loved the hammock and the fire pit--perfect for s'mores and stargazing. Heather left so many helpful tips, and we felt right at home immediately. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a peaceful getaway into the woods.

  • My wife and I enjoyed a relaxing weekend with our dog at Warrior Mountain Wilderness Retreat. The description and photos in the listing are very accurate so we knew just what to expect. We hiked the Paw Paw Tunnel Hill Trail (highly recommended for the views!) on the C&O and made good use of the extensive selection of DVDs. Despite a power outage during part of the time, we stayed plenty warm with the help of the wood stove. And a big shout-out goes to Amy, one of the caretakers, who kept in good contact by phone during the outage to make sure we were okay and had everything we needed.

  • We were looking for a quiet, comfortable, dog friendly retreat to relax and unplug for the weekend. This place definitely delivered! The house was very cozy and super clean! Unfortunately it rained all weekend so we weren't able to explore the area, but we weren't mad! The house had everthing we needed to spend a cozy weekend inside by the fire. We watched tv/movies and melted into the awesome electric recliner sofas! So comfy! We stopped at a grocery store on the way and brought all of our own food to cook and bottled water. We also brought our keurig from home and some other provisions (i.e. Paper plates, TP, dish detergent) just in case. None of which were needed. This house had all necessary supplies, including the keurig. Any questions we had were answered in the binder/ guide to the area that Heather provided on the kitchen table. This peaceful home was exactly what we were hoping for and we would definitely stay here again!

  • Beautiful home--exceeded my expectations! We had a wonderful, relaxing 2 day getaway last minute....very clean and fully stocked! We will recommend to friends and definitely (URL HIDDEN) problem finding and no internet a plus! We saw no bears(I was looking) but did see their cute little dog(he lives next door now) during our exit..thankful for this great find...

    Mary2016-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • Cabin was exactly as described. Spacious, private, relaxing, and well-appointed. We were especially surprised by the kitchen amenities. Sipping coffee on the porch swing as the birds serenade you is wonderful way to start the day. If you're looking to get away from it all and still have the comforts of home this is the place for you. Nature and lots of recreation opportunities all around you. To top it off Heather was great with communication and directions - overall just an excellent experience!

My comfortable 1BR room is bright and cheerful. You will enjoy the comforts of home by having access to the Livingroom, Bathroom, and Kitchen. This is located in a nice neighborhood and close to shopping, colleges, and hospital...within a 5 mile radius. I do not offer internet services. I am approximately 150 miles from Dullas, Reagan, Pittsburgh Airports and 180 miles from BWI Airport. To Hagerstown, Maryland around 55 miles, Altoona, Pennsylvania around 55 miles and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 150 miles. A main attraction is Deep Creek Lake around 55 miles and in September of 2014 will be having the White Water Rafting competition for the Rio Olympics. There will be approximately 30 Countries visiting the Deep Creek Lake area.
This space is unique because the bed is a queen size bed and it is on the left of the hallway . This space has a private entrance into the bathroom. The room has a huge closet space.
What I love most about the neighborhood is that everything is close within a 5 mile radius. The neighborhood is quiet and not overly friendly, but if you needed something they would help you.

This 1890's farmhouse is located in rural Hampshire County. It is situated on 120 acres of open farmland and woodlands. Close to the main road for easy access, the area can also be explored on foot or bike. It is close to public hunting and fishing areas for those interested in these activities or hiking on long trails. We have just completed the fourth chapter in a series of improvements, each one adding comfort and beauty. It is suitable for retreats, families, and getaways. There are four bedrooms, three with full size beds and one with bunk beds. There is also a sleeper sofa. The kitchen is equipped with vintage sink and cabinets, refrigerator, electric stove, and a Home Comfort cookstove along with everything you need for cooking and eating. The sun rises at the windows of the sunny breakfast room. Nearest grocery store is 10 miles away. Nearest movie theater is 45 minutes. We think this place is an excellent location for group projects of all kinds--musicians' workshops, writers' or artists' retreats, permaculture projects, running or bicycle training, hunting retreats... the possibilities are endless! We like to bake bread, so there will be a loaf of homemade bread for you when you arrive and a morning treat of your choice--the sticky buns are epic! Charlotte's Web has been recently renovated with fresh paint in all the bedrooms and on the outdoor furniture. In addition, we now have a renovated wash house/bath house, a fire pit, and a hillbilly cooler where you can stash all your beverages, etc. that don't fit in the fridge.
We love the fresh air, the gentle breezes, the night skies, and the sounds of frogs and the twinkling of fireflies in the summer.
  • We had a wonderful time at Charlotte’s Web! The scenic views of the surrounding countryside and the birds, fireflies, and stars made for a peaceful stay. We enjoyed relaxing, using the porch swing, spending time outside, going for walks, and having our meals there. The hosts were attentive to details to make our stay comfortable and shared suggestions of some great places to visit in the area. Homemade muffins, biscuits, bread, vegetables from the garden, and food in the kitchen were special treats from the hosts. Charlotte’s Web is comfortable, clean and inviting and is highly recommended for anyone wishing to escape city life and have a peaceful experience in a serene setting. For any needs, the hosts are nearby across the way and necessities are a short drive away. We look forward to our next visit!

  • Our stay at Charlotte's Web was amazing! We were greeted by Dottie, the sweet smell of warm bread and a gorgeous view. The light of the sunset was a beautiful backdrop to the farmhouse. The rooms were cozy and inviting; the porch was perfect for watching the sun go down. Dottie made the most amazing sticky buns and biscuits and stocked the kitchen with bacon, cereal and coffee. This is the perfect getaway for a group to escape the busy city and unplug. We will definitely be back!

  • To start off the cabins and facilities were very clean and well maintained. To include the showers having hot water, and the kitchen fully equipped with fridges, a stove, a microwave and coffee makers really came in handy. The cabins, porta-johns, and lake facilities were very well maintained as well. The hospitality from the host, Vince, was phenomenal. He genuinely expressed concern in case there were any problems and to ensure our stay was as comfortable as possible. He would make an appearance daily to see how things were going, and was very friendly. The girlfriend and I also met a very nice couple there and were able to do some activities together like canoeing or kayaking. I would say it's a great place for couples, being single with friends and pet friendly area. Also in case you forget anything there is a town about 10 min away to pick up any items. I will be definitely visiting again, and have already told many friends about the stay. I have no complaints and nothing but good things to say about this trip, being it was also my first time using Airbnb.

  • Buffalo Gap has lots of charm (and nostalgia for anyone who's ever been to camp). It was great for a big group - we loved the big table in the kitchen for group meals and hanging out. Great times hanging out by the lake, and at the campfire too. Real bathrooms and stall showers will be a big improvement.

    Valerie2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed the 'roughing it' experience at Buffalo Gap. We wanted calm and peace away from the city, and that's exactly what we got. The camp fire is great for smores and cooking. The cabins remind you of a 1950s summer camp (unchanged from this time period). The kitchen is fully stocked as the host says, and had everything we needed. We would highly recommend bringing extra water for coffee and drinking, due to the fact that some visitors may not enjoy the taste of the well water. Hands down a great escape from city life with 4 people. 6 would have been a bit cramped, but doable with the extra cots provided in each cabin. Sleeping bags and bedding are a must. And bug repellent, especially for ticks, we highly recommend using permethrin to keep ticks away. There are a lot of ticks in the Appalachian region, and it is good to be prepared. Only one of the four of us had any issues with getting a tick stuck on them, but it is good to be prepared. There are a lot of deer watching opportunities, and early in the morning or late at night you will see tons of deer around the property. The lake nearby is beautiful and has a bon-fire, and overall the experience was wonderful! We really enjoyed sitting by the fire, and cooking tasty meals, as well as stargazing on a clear night. The cabins were perfect for our group of 4 adults. The best part about our arrival was that the host was waiting for us with the fire going, even though we were many hours late and did not expect him to have waited for us. He was very knowledgeable about the area, and very helpful. It is important to note that the host owns the cabins that are rented, but not the entire camp property; there are other owners of cabins nearby and it is important to respect the quiet hours due to other neighbors around the camp.

    Jacqueline2016-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • This was the perfect weekend getaway from the city. Vince did a great job of making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived and was available as needed throughout the weekend. The other cabins were occupied by 2 families and another couple (we actually asked one of the families to switch cabins with us so their kids could all be close and the couples could be together, which Vince had no problem with) which meant we could be as social or private as we wanted. While you can definitely hang around the grounds all day (lots of games and stuff to do) we actually drove about an hour and a half to Shenandoah to hike, which I definitely recommend. The kitchen had plenty of amenities so don't worry about only bringing camping cooking gear - and if you forget some food, there is a really cute shop down the mountain (15 min drive) to get fresh, local meat, veggies, and beer. Overall we had a great experience and would definitely come back again soon!

    Emily2016-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • The cabins are rustic, but well-kept and in a beautiful area! Vincent was very communicative and responsive to whatever needs arose. We had a great family gathering with friends here and would recommend them to others looking for a fun weekend getaway!

  • We had a great time! The weather was beautiful and the pond was really fun. My dog loved it too!

  • The grounds were perfect for a get away from the big city! The cabins were great. A really cool place not too far away from home. We will visit again.

  • It was a nice cabin, the bunks were good for camping, good mattresses. The common kitchen/game cabin was fun. We had other nice people in the adjacent cabins which made it nice as well. The small lake and beach and sauna were extra fun. The camp fire locations made it easy to hang out in cool weather and enjoy the area.

  • Vincent was a spectacular host, he gave us an excellent tour of the cabin and surrounding grounds on our arrival and made us feel extremely welcome right off the bat! The lake is phenomenal and well-stocked with fish, and the clarity of the night sky makes bonfires something else.

  • Where can I begin - it was truly such a perfect experience. Vincent is so kind and caring. The property is absolutely beautiful and very clean. We had a comfortable stay and will definitely be returning. It's a home away from home with comfort and entertainment. We kayaked for hours! Had so much fun playing pingpong in the evening. It's truly a family-friendly utopia!

  • We really enjoyed staying here. We had a great time and loved being able to just relax and enjoy the scenery. We truly wanted a "glamping" experience and this was exactly what we were looking for.
