Castello
“Once home to the kings of ancient Northumbria, Bamburgh Castle is one of Northumberland's most iconic buildings. The Bamburgh castle we see today is a relatively recent structure, built by famed industrialist the first Lord Armstrong at vast cost in late Victorian times. Lord Armstrong was also responsible for building Cragside House, Gardens & Estates. But the castle boasts a much longer history. There have been settlements on the site since prehistoric times and the regular archaeological digs that take place on the site have unearthed some spectacular finds.”

Museum
“Beamish has grown over the years into a fabulous full day experience including a Victorian street filled with shops and services you can wander into and buy from like the old sweet shop, fish & chippier shop and there's even a dentists. The old miners cottages and village school are a short tram or bus ride away. Pockerley manor and farm are at either end of the grounds, which are huge. You can go down a mine, ride on steam trains, play on the fair ground rides and there are always helpful volunteers and staff dressed in period costume to assist you.”

Centro commerciale
“Avoid the city centre and the nightmare of parking to do your shopping! The Gateshead Metro Centre is a lovely large mall with all the main chain stores like M&S, Next, Debenhams, Primark, TKMaxx and Boots, in addition to numerous boutiques and dozens of restaurants. There is also a massive ten screen cinema attached. There's a kiddy train that drives around the mall and comfortable seating spread throughout to take a little break from shopping. Outside of the mall is a retail park with a 24 hour Asda, Ikea and other big stores.”

“Alnwick Castle, often dubbed the Windsor of the North, takes pride of place in the town of Alnwick. The castle is popular with film-makers: Blackadder, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Harry Potter; are some of the films shot here. Alongside is the Duchess of Northumberland’s blooming marvellous creation – The Alnwick Garden. Dine among the treetops in the fairytale setting of one of the world’s largest tree houses and delight at the many exquisite water features.”

“The Life Science Centre offers a combination of hands-on and display exhibits which have been designed to bring out your inner scientist, whilst having some fun in the process. Life also has a special area for under 7’s. This museum does have an admission charge and I would only recommend paying if there is an exhibition on. From November to February, Life hosts an outdoor ice rink in Times Square, just outside the Science Centre. ”

“The Alnwick Garden is one of the world’s most ambitious new gardens. The Duchess of Northumberland’s vision for a forgotten plot is now a truly 21st century experience full of imagination, inspiration and fun. Designed by Jacques and Peter Wirtz, The Garden is a wonderful combination of spaces, themes, quirkiness and play. From the tranquility of the Cherry Orchard, the excitement of the Grand Cascade and the mysteries of the Bamboo Labyrinth, to the Serpent Garden’s spell-binding water sculptures, the intrigue of the Poison Garden and one of the world’s largest tree houses – there is plenty to surprise and delight. The Garden is a space designed to be enjoyed by all your senses, with a collection of over 4,000 plant varieties to discover, thousands of seasonal blooms and countless opportunities to get wet and play in The Garden’s water sculptures”

The Treehouse Restaurant can be found at the heart of the structure, beautiful and unique, with a log fire in the centre, trees growing from the floor, handcrafted wooden tables and chairs and screens created from fallen branches”
