Designed to evoke a ship, this stylish 2BD home overlooks the ocean and is surrounded by 50 acres of woods, wildlife, and area beaches. Complete privacy but only 17 min from town. Hike, kayak, BBQ, explore Downeast harbors, or just relax on the deck.
The Prowhouse was designed by Machiasport poet and sea captain Phil Rose to evoke the prow of a ship. The home's distinctive, angular 'prow' and its floor-to-ceiling windows overlook Howards Cove, a lovely crescent of ocean water and woodlands cupped in the north by unique Jasper Beach. The Prowhouse is perched atop a 130' cliff on the southwestern arm of the cove and is surrounded by pristine forest. In addition to the remarkable view, our guests enjoy complete solitude — there's only one other home remotely visible and it's across the cove about a mile away. The Prowhouse fits 4 people comfortably. The master bedroom has large windows with a dizzying view over the cliff to the ocean floor below. The second bedroom is smaller but is very cozy; it's walls are covered with blue and gold-colored nautical maps of New England. The downstairs has a handsome living room, dining area, kitchen and bathroom. The style of the home's decor is a mix of mid-century modern and nautical aesthetic, i.e. lots vintage furnishings in teak and brass. While the Prowhouse is newly renovated with all modern amenities, you'll feel as if you've stepped into the 50s or 60s when you walk through the door. For instance, you'll find furniture, art, and design by mid-century Modernists Paul McCobb, Norman Cherner, Percival Lafer, and Curtis Jere. A library corner contains a Danish desk, vintage books, an old rotary phone, an Olivetti typewriter, and a classic Thorens turntable. Most of the paintings and photographs throughout the house are unconventional takes on natural and nautical themes. (Don't expect twee paintings of sea captains and lighthouses when the real deal is just outdoors.) When the sun is out and the weather warm, enjoy the Prowhouse's spacious deck and picnic table at the cliff's edge. The Prowhouse grounds are fun to explore with small paths threading through the trees, along the cliff's edge, up stone steps and into small gorges.
Machiasport, according to the popular travel guide Lonely Planet, is the "real Downeast." So if you stay here, don't expect crowds of camera-toting tourists ( you'll find those 1.5 hours south of us in Bar Harbor.) Machiasport, instead, is for those seeking an intimate and authentic experience of Maine coast culture. The experience first unfolds from the seat of your car; Port Road, leading from the town of Machias to Machiasport, is quiet and unassuming but full of character. The road meanders past marshes, woods, and mudflats; passes stacks of lobster traps, lopsided barns and lobster boats, and resident homes of varying repair and personality. We love trips in and out of town. So will you. Just off the end of Port Road, and down Rose Lane (a quarter mile dirt road through the trees), you'll find the Prowhouse perched atop Rose Ledge. While the home's location is wonderfully idyllic surrounded by acres of trees and wildlife — it's hardly idle; Howards Cove will serve as your own private seaside-theater, presenting you daily with a small parade of lobster boats, seabirds, kayakers, and dramatically expressive clouds. Looking out our windows or standing on Rose Ledge, you'll also see Cutler's distant radio towers that twinkle at night; you'll catch the silhouette of salmon farms against the sea, and, a little farther afield, you'll discover Libby Island Lighthouse whose intermittent flash and foghorn add ambiance to your stay. (Did I say foghorn? Yes, indeed I did. The price we Mainers pay for such traditional New England iconography is, of course, the existence of fog. However, if you're a fan of the Scottish Highlands or misty, medieval forests carpeted in thick mosses and dark tree trunks, you'll find the foggy days an authentic part of the Downeast package. The Prowhouse is surrounded by 50 acres of woods and wildlife, including some rocky beaches complete with caves and vertiginous cliffs. As mentioned before, the Prowhouse is perched upon one such cliff called Rose Ledge (named, like Rose Lane, after the Rose family.) Perhaps "Blueberry Ledge" would be more fitting since in August the ledge is hued in swaths of blueberries. Pick some in the morning and have blueberry pancakes for breakfast. The Prowhouse faces the east so the sunrise is truly spectacular. A clear night sky showcases the Milky Way — or a full moon mirrored by the sea. Beaches: there's a traditional white sand beach 15 minutes away at Roque Bluffs state park. But Howards Cove features more distinctive Downeast geography including a brown sand beach and a cave (melodramatically named Devil's Oven), as well as dozens of shaggy, seaweed-strewn tidal pools and impressive Acadia-esque rock formations — all within walking distance of the Prowhouse. The real gem of our area is, however, Jasper Beach. One of two beaches in the world consisting entirely of polished jasper stones, this surreal beach is just 3+ minutes drive up the road. Feel free to go to Jasper Beach and collect a couple of these handsome stones for souvenirs. Bring a picnic lunch and listen to the strange, burbling sound of the surf as it crashes over the stones. Beyond Howards Cove are the following areas of interest: Starboard Cove: a sleepy, former shipyard good for a morning stroll. Walking distance or short drive from the house. Point of Maine: a slightly longer walk beyond Starboard. More beaches. Quiet and unassuming residential area. More views of the sea. Bucks Harbor: working harbor where you can buy fresh lobster at BBS lobster pound. 5 minutes drive up Port Road. Yurts: search online for The Yurt Foundation for info. A 7 minute drive + 2 mile walk through the woods to a small yurt community. Your hosts can provide directions. Petroglyphs on Clarks Point: ask your hosts about where to search for these historic glyphs made by Passamaquoddy Indians. Roque Bluffs: state park and beach (swimming, kayaking, picnics and hikes) Machias: for restaurants, kayak rentals, local entertainment, and supplies (17 minutes up Port Rd.) Hosts the famed Blueberry Festival in August. Daytrips: - Cutler (for access to the spectacular Bold Coast hiking trails and Puffin tours) - Gardner Lake (fresh water swimming) - Lubec and Campobello Island (This is Canada so bring a Passport! 2800 acre Roosevelt Campobello International Park for FDR's summer home, birding, biking, hiking, boat tours, East Quoddy Lighthouse, and the Bay of Fundy. Fabulous day trip.) - Eastport (charming Easternmost city in the U.S.) - Jonesport and Beals Island (working harbor and nature reserve, golfing) - Moosehorn Nature Reserve (bald eagles and hiking trails)
  • The Prowhouse is a truly beautiful property. Spending a few nights in the quaint town of Machias is a wonderful way to get away from the world and simply relax. If you step outside of the Prowhouse's quirky decor and into the yard you'll find yourself surrounded by the smell of the trees and the sound of the ocean crashing against the cliff below. At night, the Prowhouse offers a tough-to-find view of the stars coupled with the occasional shine of a Lighthouse across the water. Rich and Julie are great hosts. They're happy to answer any questions and really make you feel at home. We had a great time up at the Prowhouse and would absolutely recommend it.

  • The prowhouse is an amazing experience that I recommend to everyone.

    Caitlin2017-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Prowhouse is in a beautiful location on an unspoiled part of the Maine coast. The house itself is an architectural gem in mint condition, with spectacular views of Machiasport harbor, multiple decks for relaxing, complete privacy, and unruffled quiet. Although there is a second bedroom, this property is a perfect retreat for couples. Julie and Rich are very responsive hosts and their house is equipped with all the amenities--including wifi--and abundant information about the area, including sights to see and places to eat. But the Prowhouse and its setting are so seductive that you will probably find yourselves foregoing many of these possible excursions simply to enjoy the house and its immediate vicinity, which includes Starboard, Howard's Cove, and Jasper Beach. If bustle, crowds, and shopping are your idea of a good time, this may not be the place for you. But if you would enjoy peace and quiet in a lovely home with amazing views and easy access to trails, rugged cliffs and picturesque beaches, I doubt you could do better than this.

    Brian2014-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • Julie and Rich could not have been more helpful and welcoming, and the Prowhouse and surrounding property were spectacular. The whole experience exceeded our expectations and we can't wait to come back!

  • The Prowhouse is a spectacular experience. The location and views are breathtaking and the home is very nice. We loved awakening to gorgeous sunrises which could be viewed without getting out of bed! We had a fantastic time both at the home and on the property, and in the area generally. We came to rest and relax and be with beauty and were very satisfied with our stay.

    Cheryl2016-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • This is a most magical spot for some days of pure bliss. The setting couldn't be more majestic - and yet simple. The house itself is wonderfully decorated, and you get a real sense of the man who built it and his reverence for the place. There is a before/after book that the Roses have left so you can see the house being built by Rich's father. Julie and Rich checked on us to make sure that everything was going well - they provided us with great tips about the area. (The walk to the yurts was a wonderful surprise.) Their own trails are beautiful and the places to sit along the way provide excellent places to watch for the local eagle who circles daily and to watch boats going by. The kitchen had everything my husband (the chef) could desire. The deck was sunny and warm despite the cool May breezes. The house was spotlessly clean. A wonderful place to rent and we hope to go back someday!

  • The Prowhouse in Machiasport was everything we had expected it to be and so much more. My girlfriend and I decided that we needed to get away from the city for a few days, and Maine sounded perfect. As a former resident of Maine, I had only really known Portland and not much else, so when I found the Prowhouse, the prospect of traveling far downeast sounded really amazing. As soon as I received confirmation that we had gotten the house, Rich and Julie were already sending over emails of tons of stuff to do. They were always available without fail to give us advice before and during our trip up to Maine. The Prowhouse, Machiasport and the entire Downeast area are a gem. The property is absolutely stunning. Being a couple city folks, we were a little weary when we arrived bit late in the evening, and in the middle of the dark woods. But as we got to the house, the moon came up over the ocean and lit up everything around us. That is a memory I will hold on to for a long time. Our four days at the Prowhouse was perfect to say the least. Day trips to Acadia and Eastport and other port towns kept us busy those days and were just so much fun. Wish we could have stayed longer, maybe even all summer if we could. Amazing place, amazing hosts, why are you still reading this? Just book the thing already! We will definitely be back soon!

She even asked me beforehand what I was interested in so she could research before I got there. Her delicious home-cooked breakfasts were a treat and her home is amazing!

  • This is an absolutely awesome place to stay in Machias. The place was exactly as described, very clean, very welcoming and a very comfortable atmosphere. WiFi, clean linens, very spacious accommodations and a very gracious host! I would strongly suggest this vs. any hotel in town.

  • Having a warm, direct and funny personality, Terry is the kind of person that makes you believe the world can be a better place. She has sophisticated ideas about society and it's wonderful to hang around in the old, big house while talking a bit and petting the cats and dogs.

The Cottage is a former artist studio rebuilt + refurbished into open concept living; restful,, peaceful, rustic with hand-hewn beams, knotty pine walls, numerous windows facing Machias River on a dead-end road on the 'quiet' East Side of the "Port".
Quiet dead-end gravel road. Peace and quiet on Rivendown Farm.
  • My husband and I spent a lovely evening at the Rivendown Farm cottage. The cottage was neat as a pin, comfortable, and fully equipped for a longer stay - all the kitchen staples, information about local restaurants and activities, etc. We were sorry to have only stayed one night! If we stayed longer, we would have explored more of the farm's trails and spent more time on the porch relaxing. Beverly and Hugh were delightful, to boot.

    Eliza2016-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • Beverly has thought of all the details to make your stay cozy and comfortable. A perfect place to relax or explore beautiful Down East Maine.

    Judy2017-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • I had a great stay in the cottage. The location was very pleasant, the cottage was great to stay in, and the hosts were very nice, accommodating and helpful.

    Walter2017-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is in one word - 'perfect'. It is set in the most beautiful farm, far from the noise and chaos of the city. It is steps away from the river. Bev has thought of everything one could possibly need. We enjoyed spending evenings on the porch watching the gorgeous sunset over the river. We enjoyed a couple of meals on the outside grill they provided. And with some great pointers from Hugh, we enjoyed some delicious Maine lobster. This was a perfect retreat for us and we'd love to come back soon!

    Andrey2016-05-26T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice to have a family stay away fr9m work to be stree free. Calm place to stay and Bev is maintaining it very well for the guests to stay. Their farm was very nice.

    Malar2016-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • Rivendown Cottage reflects an artist's touch and a master innkeeper's attention to detail. We were so glad to be able to share the beauty afforded by Beverly and Hugh's farm. Portioned into various seating/use areas, the open floor design is comfortable. Southwest facing windows provide vistas for viewing spectacular sunsets. Picking wild Maine blueberries and immediately adding them to made-from-scratch muffins that became part of each day's breakfast made morning coffee and tea so much better. While walking the pathways that Hugh has carefully cut throughout the 30 acre property, one is greeted with an array of wild flowers, coastal shoreline, seasonal fruits (blueberries, raspberries, apples), and wildlife (so many varieties of birds). Shelves in the cottage hold a veritable library of Maine literature: from guidebooks and memoirs to fiction by Maine authors. Dish network is provided, but in eight days we never once turned on the television. Why settle for the lesser choice of broadcasts when there is a sky filled with brilliant constellations outside on the deck? Within an hour's drive is West Quoddy Lighthouse, where the sun first rises on the United States. A desire to visit Maine together was answered on our 40th anniversary as we celebrated at Riverdown Farm Cottage. The accommodations were an added blessing to a wonderful experience. We created lasting memories and departed with gratitude to our hosts for sharing their hospitality in a gracious manner.

Wake up to a beautiful sunrise on Hadley's Lake, nestled in the heart of Downeast Maine. Only footsteps away from waters edge this camp offers the rustic feel of a peaceful getaway, while maintaining all the comforts of home.
  • A great place to stay on the lake for kayaking or other watercraft, not for swimming. Also great for adventures on the Sunrise Trail for biking, the Boldcoast trail for hiking , and Roques Bluffs Park for hiking and a terrific beach!

  • The cottage is a cozy place and has open views of the water. Deer and blueberries were nearby. A recommended and peaceful stay if you are in the area.

  • Loved this spot! A quiet little cabin with a beautiful view and the perfect amount of privacy. Tucked away on the lake, but within a short drive to town for any needed food/supplies. My boyfriend and I needed a weekend away from city life chaos and this proved to be the perfect place to get away from it all. We only wish we could've stayed longer!

    Mackenzie2017-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place to stay. Right on the lake, just a few minutes from Machias (which has plenty to eat, a grocery store and pharmacy, plus local wine shop and wellness/organic shop and cafe). The cabin is definitely a cabin, but with pretty much all the comforts of home: shower, couches, full kitchen, etc. I had a great time. Plus, you can't beat that sunrise.

Heron View Cottage is a charming retreat located directly on scenic Machias Bay, on the spectacular Downeast Coast of Maine. This picturesque and historic cottage has all modern amenities and is cozy and affordable. It's the the perfect getaway for a couple, family or group of three, or an individual looking to experience the Maine coast in an idyllic setting. The lovely 2-bedroom cottage has beautiful views of the bay from expansive windows in the dining room, bedroom and even bathroom.
Heron View Cottage has an enclosed porch that has magnificent bay views and is always a wonderful place to relax. The spacious living room features a fireplace where you can enjoy the ambiance of its soothing warmth and comforting crackle. There is one bedroom on each floor and a fully-equipped galley kitchen. Each bedroom has one double-sized bed.
The Outdoors and Puffin Boat Tours: Heron View Cottage is just a short drive from Jasper Beach, with its expansive, half-mile-long cobble beach and surf. There are several hiking trails located in Cutler that are only a 20 minute drive from the house. The Bold Coast, Boot Cove and Hamilton Cove trails skirt along the edge of rugged ocean cliffs and scenic vistas. They are “must” hikes when visiting the Downeast coast area. Another “must do” while in the area is the Atlantic Puffin boat tours offered by Captain Andy Patterson of the Bold Coast Charter Company out of Cutler harbor. These beautiful and rare parrot-like seabirds only frequent a few of the rugged offshore islands along the Maine coast. Your destination of Machias Seal Island, only 9 miles off Cutler, is the largest puffin colony on the Maine coast, with thousands more birds than any other site. Lobsters and Whales: The cottage is only a short drive to the lobster wharf in Bucks Harbor where vacationers revel at the chance to pick out their own fresh lobsters on the pier. You can also hop on a whale-watching cruise departing from Eastport daily. The cottage is only 1 hour from this popular and picturesque whale-watching port. The Famous Machias Wild Blueberry Festival in August! And don’t miss the Downeast event of the year – the annual Machias Wild Blueberry Festival in Machias (Aug. 14-15, 2015). This is a fun-filled celebration of the blueberry. The Downeast region produces nearly 85% of the world's blueberries, and the residents of the area are proud of that fact and it shows. There’s no lack of exciting events for everyone at this event – a Main Street parade, blueberry farm tours, magic shows, fabulous food, fireworks, crafts and fine art by regional artists, live music and, of course the blueberry pie-eating contest!
  • A lovely cottage on a beautiful tidal estuary. This is a wonderful little gem. We so enjoyed our stay in this lovingly decorated shoreland cottage. Even on a foggy or rainy days it was a pleasure to stay here. The little galley kitchen was outfitted with every item needed for whipping up great meals. The linens were comfortable, hot water abundant. Excellent WiFi and the ability to access Netflix, combined with a nice selection of local interest books and a good music selection were much appreciated. Best of course was the view out the many large old windows to the shoreland just off the deck...the view of tiny green islands, shorebirds and the ever changing tidal scene made for a relaxing and restorative stay. Ed's attention to detail made sure we were well taken care of although we never saw a soul and had our complete privacy. We will return!

    Holly2017-06-19T00:00:00Z
  • The views are amazing! Sunrise and sunset are special moments that you should savor here! Ed thought of all the details, it’s all cozy and inviting. The porch is a great place to read, lots of books. Keep in mind the beds are double and there’s only Netflix so no news! There is internet! Loved “Helens” restaurant!

    Linda2017-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • Ed's cottage is steeped in the 19th century with art, antiques, and books about Maine. Machias is a few minutes' drive for any necessities or food. It is close to the road but the focus is on the tidal flats and the natural beauty in all directions. It was a memorable romantic vacation.

  • My wife and I stayed in Lisa's cabin at her blueberry farm for our anniversary trip. We loved the peace and quiet of the farm and we were able to enjoy some delicious fresh wild blueberries with our breakfast. The cabin is very clean and in a secluded location. There is warm running water for showers, and a stove for cooking meals. We packed a cooler and planned out meals in advance. We packed our kayaks along with us and spent the day exploring the bay and islands around Roque Bluffs. It was a perfect spot for us and we enjoyed our stay!

  • Great weekend getaway off the beaten path! Roque Bluffs is one of the prettiest places in Maine! The state Park is about a mile from the cottage offering a beach, with lots of rocks and sea glass for collecting, a pond, for freshwater swimmers, and lots of trails for hiking! Just remember to bring bug spray....the horse flies and mosquitoes are plentiful!

  • This little cabin is very conveniently located near Roque Beach State Park. We enjoyed the beach and the miles of hiking trails. Our dogs came with us and they were worn out after all the hiking, ready for the next leg of our adventure.

  • The property was a basic shelter but was clean and cozy. What really made this place amazing was the view from the top of the property overlooking an inlet of the ocean, mountain tops, and valley. GO TO THE TOP!! Bring all essentials as there isn't much close by.

  • Perfect overnight retreat!! Only spent one night and wished we had more time. Beautiful location if you want a rustic camp experience. Walked down through the path to a private beach to watch the sunset. It was the perfect spot for my husband and I along with my two pups. Downeast Maine at its finest. Lisa and her family were very accommodating to us. Enjoyed visiting with them. Looking forward to a return in the future. The cottage itself had everything we needed.

  • If you like rustic, quaint, no frills camping this is the place for you...their is only one other lodge next to you so it is very quiet and serene...we were amazed on how Lisa was able to fit everything into such a small (URL HIDDEN) has a kitchenette, with all the dishes, pots and pans, small refrigerator and even a coffee maker...you do need to bring all your supplies with you...coffee, tea, sugar...ext..the lodge has an indoor bathroom which does supply clean towels and (URL HIDDEN) has a shower an experience you won't forget...their are two full size beds very comfy and a bureau/Quilts ...a make shift table, and a reading nook...WOW you will be surprised and a bit awed when you see the size of the cottage...and the view at the top of the blueberry barren's hill will blow your socks off...bring a camera...we also saw wild (URL HIDDEN) does have a few issues which I brought to Lisa's attention; which is the reason we gave it a 4 star rating...couple of shades for privacy...reading lamp for the reading nook would be great...also not the reason for the 4 star...their is a clunking noise which is very loud that was disturbing our peace...but hopefully Lisa will address the problem and make it go away...We will come back again...We loved it...<3 Ruthanne

  • My husband and I had a great week-long vacation here with our dog in tow. The cabin was basic but had everything we were expecting--a small kitchen, hot shower, comfortable bed. While it wasn't blueberry season, I still very much enjoyed walking through the blueberry fields down to the private beach to dig clams and hang out on the chilly but sunny beach. Roque Bluffs is a beautiful corner of Maine with lots of trails to hike and seafood to eat! Lisa was welcoming and available for our questions about the town and farm. Would love to come back with the blueberries are ready to pick (August).

    Elizabeth2017-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here on a trip up the Maine coast. The cabin is adorable, super clean, and very comfortable. Lisa and her dad were outstanding hosts who were happy to answer all of our questions about the farm, and Lisa was very understanding when we were late checking in (sorry, Lisa!). Located right down the street from Roques Bluff and convenient to amenities in Machias. Gorgeous views of the farm and the bay from the top of the property. Our hosts even gifted us some delicious blueberries to take on the road with us. All in all, a great spot - hoping to visit again during blueberry season!

  • Joyce and Alan are excellent hosts: warm, communicative, responsive, and available. Their apartment is spacious, bright, comfortable and whimsically decorated. The setting is rural/ residential, quiet, restful, and an excellent base for the spectacular hiking available nearby. The appartment worked well for our family, which includes two young-adult children; everyone had their own comfortable space. The kitchen is moderately well equipped, and basics for a nice breakfast were provided. We would happily stay here again.

    Sabra2017-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was beautiful. It was very clean and neat and nicely decorated. Everything you could possibly need is provided to you. Sitting and looking out the large glass doors we saw deer and bald eagles. Lovely spot to relax and enjoy the beauty Maine has to offer. Joyce and Alan were wonderful hosts.

  • Alan and Joyce have a lovely home and they are amazing hosts. We truly enjoyed our stay and look forward to visiting again!

  • Joyce and Alan's was the perfect place for my sister, mother, and I to stay while visiting family nearby. It was immaculate, and colorful, as the pictures show. Joyce gave us a walk-through when we arrived, which was very helpful. Hope to stay longer next time!

    Alex2017-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • What a great place and such wonderful hosts. As we were experiencing some need to "swap in" our family members Joyce and Alan couldn't have been more accommodating. My husband and I did stay there the first night and got to experience al the pleasures of the Lakeside. Neat as a pin, good Wi-Fi service, a lovely setting and such a spacious place...the books were varied and interesting, our hosts were just the right level of there when we needed but we had all the privacy you would want...and we got to meet "Kashmir" the dog, who was sweet and gentle. A perfect place to stay to explore all that DownEast Maine has to offer and close in to the amenities of Machias. The nice spacious kitchen and "office" set up with a view out to the pond made for a good "home away from home".

    Holly2017-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very nice stay at Joyce and Alan's. We looked forward to coming "home" at the end of the day, their place is very cozy, impeccably clean, and they are some of the nicest people you will ever meet! They gave us great suggestions for the local area, stocked the fridge with a few staples and some breakfast items, and were quick to help when we needed help with the tv. Highly recommend staying here!

  • Great, open space in Down East Maine. A really quiet neighborhood with a beautiful forest just out back of the sun room. Joyce and Alan were friendly and helpful hosts. This home is about 1 hour and 45 minutes northeast of Bar Harbor and a little less than 30 minutes from Lubec....beautiful area away from the more major tourist areas.

  • Debbie's cottage was so cozy and comfortable, and in an amazing location! I was immediately struck by the view from the deck, which was beautiful even on the rainy and misty days of my stay in Roque Bluffs. The cottage itself was very comfortable to stay in, and was perfect for a short get away! Although my visit was in the summer, which was an amazing times to visit Roque bluffs and view the beautiful scenery of Down east Maine, I thought the cottage would even be wonderful for a winter snow in! Thanks Debbie for the wonderful stay and the great communication throughout (she even called after my stay was over because I forgot a jacket at the cottage)!

  • Very nice, secluded place on the water. Couple of flaws we've pointed out to the owner but not enough for us to give a negative recommendation. In fact, we've given her a 4 out of 5 and recommend Debbie's place to anyone coming to the area.

This is the place to come make some memories. Walk down to your own private beach. 2 Bedroom cottage that can sleep 6 to 8 people. The 2 bedroom upstairs has a Full bed in one bedroom and a full bed and twin bunk in the other bedroom. Full kitchen and living area and also a pull out couch. Large deck to accommodate leisurely days and nights during your stay. Close to the State park, Golf and all the amenities of Machias.
Property itself has an amazing view of the ocean!
  • This is a lovely, pet friendly property. Thank you for allowing us to bring our dogs! The interior floors are laminate downstairs and painted wood upstairs. We covered them with runners and dog sheets to help provide traction for our old dog and to avoid scratches. The rooms were very clean. The kitchen has enough utensils and cookware for preparing and serving a meal. The fridge is large. There's a propane stove and oven, microwave, 12 cup drip coffee maker. Plenty of hot water. The home lacks work space for laptop computers unless you set up at the kitchen table. The living room has a sofa and a rocking chair, seating for 4 people, but no coffee or end tables. There is a TV but no antenna or cable, and while the house has a DVD player, there's no remote for it so control is limited. The house has recently had windows replaced and has been freshly painted. As a result, window shades had not been reinstalled yet. The rear storm door is absent a latch at present and cannot be fastened which can be problematic if you have dogs or young children. This is likely a temporary situation. The exterior is a lovely, level, grassy yard with beach access via stone steps. With a little maintenance the property will be well worth the fees charged.

  • FABULOUS!!!!! We didn't want to leave this fabulous property. I could go on and on for pages about how much we enjoyed Annie's home and location. Peaceful, beautiful surroundings-massive water views, private location just 10 minutes from town. We had visits from deer and porcupine, croquet on the lawn, shuffleboard and lots of room in the house for us to spread out. The kitchen was well stocked and there was nothing we were left wanting for. We felt like we were at home there. Diverse library of books. Great house for large parties. If we ever return to Maine, we'd love to stay here again. Thank you!!!!!!!!!

  • A lovely loft... Bright and Sunny with amazing views!! We can't say enough about our stay and hosts. Communication and check-in was a breeze. Michael and Percy offered great recommendations for surrounding restaurants and activities. The loft is very clean, cozy and equipped with all you need for a great stay on the Down East Coast of Maine. We loved the hot shower with great pressure after a long day out exploring. We hiked the Cutler Bold Coast Trail and marveled at the amazing cliff top views. Back at the loft, in Michael & Percy's backyard, we were able to trek across the rocks and explore a sand bar during low tide. This location, loft and gracious hosts do not disappoint... I highly recommend staying here on your next trip to Maine. :)

Very large room to spread out and be comfortable. Tastefully decorated with a theme of the area. Beautiful view of the water from the balcony. Michael and Peercy make you feel welcome in their home!

  • This place was super wonderful and one of the best AIRBNB I have ever stayed in! It was so comfortable and truly very cozy, super clean, equipped with many things to use and had such amazing views to wake up to in the morning. I especially loved that we had a little balcony in the suite and that the suite had so much room! The Michael and Percy were also very friendly and gave us many great suggestions on what to do around the area. Sadly it was a short stay but i would highly recommend this place! AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING!

The studio has a wonderful little balcony that overlooks the ocean..a perfect spot for a twilight libation or an early morning meditation. The studio is very comfortable and beautifully appointed. You definitely feel you are "away from it all". It would be easy to stay for a while, although we only had one night to enjoy it.

On a hill overlooking the Bay with easy access to the beach and with a perfect orientation to the sun this house is so delightful. Large windows make for a bright interior and large fieldstone fireplace with woodstove insert for those cool evenings. The area is near the Bold coast of Maine with fantastic hiking, pebble and sand beaches, public preserve lands. Never crowded, you will enjoy true peace and quiet. The summer air is perfect and the nights cool and delightful. Kayaks available to use
This is a very quiet area on the remote Maine coast. On a dead end road, this whole side of the point is privately preserved.
  • Anthony's home was beautiful, quiet, comfortable, and clean. The place was even more beautiful than the photographs. My boyfriend, his parents, and I wanted a quiet retreat place with the ability to cook together and enjoy each other and the beauty of the Maine coast, and we got exactly that. The town was even quieter than I expected, and might have been hard for us to navigate had it not been for Anthony's clear and extensive directions both before and during the trip (very helpful information binder for visitors!) I would recommend this very highly to people looking for an intimate getaway.

  • We were a group of four and we stayed for 5 nights. When we arrived (we could just come anytime after 2pm and enter the house) we almost went crazy. This place is AWESOME and way more than what we had expected! It was easy to find. The house itself is in a very good shape, well equipped kitchen, very clean bathrooms, oven, grill, firewood, kayaks, even a computer. A very helpful folder with information about almost anything about/around the house will answer all your questions. The place itself is very remote. There is one house close by, the next grocery store is about 10min away by car. Recommended for everyone who's looking for a calm and relaxing place near the ocean.

    Dimitri2016-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Tony's home is fantastic. The views towards the bay are breathtaking, and the setting is very private. The house is well appointed, and there is nothing that we wanted that wasn't there. Tony was very helpful regarding a few questions about the house and area. Machias has a lot to offer in the way of hiking, paddling, fishing, digging clams, picking berries, and makes a great base for adventures in the area. I would recommend this listing for anyone heading Down East.

  • We knew the neighborhood and surrounding areas well, so arrival was easy. It was a different view of the bay than we were used to from cutler, and it was even more beautiful. I grew up knowing I was home when I saw the red towers from the naval base, and you could see the towers glowing red and the bay from your bed right out the big bay windows. The house was cozy and beautiful and tastefully decorated. I grew up with our camp having every side table and cubby hole filled with special rocks every year since I cab remember we'd collect the ricks at our beach and display them. Anthony and Susan displayed rocks and sea glass in a much nicer way! The walk down to the beach was great, and much easier tonaccess than many waterfront properties in used to on the bold coast. The kayaks were a great touch! We got to visit with my cousins Ruthie and John and my grandfather's birthday took place as well so we celebrated with him, took him out to the bluebird. Visited my cousin at Washington Academy as well, she works there, and we got my grandfather signed up on the alumni list finally! We really loved this experience and the privacy. I hope you are able to sell your home Anthony and Susan! The asking price is more than fair. If you don't, we will be back to stay!

We have a beautifully remodeled 1898 farmhouse. It is a quintessential New England home. We have the most beautiful sunsets that I have personally ever seen out our front window we have chairs in the front yard so you can sit and watch the sunset over the water about three-quarters of a mile at the end of our road is the ocean that has been published in DownEast magazine for its beauty. If you are going on Puffin tours it will take you about 2 & 1/2 minutes to drive to beautiful Cutler Harbor
The guest space is more like a suite you have the Tempurpedic bed along with your own TV room couch and comfortable area to relax in after a long day outside
Beautiful views of the ocean and fresh smell of pine, not a very busy road at all

Traditional Maine cottage updated to be bright and fresh and cozy. Fully equipped Kitchen, all linens and towels supplied. One bedroom (one queen bed) and full bath on the first floor; two bedrooms with two twin beds each on the second floor. Small deck off the back.
You will see some of the most spectacular scenery on the East Coast within minutes of the house. Our place is close to great views, restaurants and dining, the beach, outdoor activities (hiking, kayaking, Puffin and whale watching tours) and other family-friendly activities. You’ll love my place because of the views, the people, the ambiance, the outdoors space, and the quiet neighborhood. Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, families (with kids), and big groups. A short 15-25min ride to restaurants and groceries, located in neighboring towns.
Harbor View Cottage is a genuine "old New England " home furnished with all the charm that comes with "gramma's house". Antiques throughout complete the New England feeling..Views of a quintessential lobster fishing village from almost every room in the house.sleeps 7. Formal and casual dining area/rooms. There are 2 full baths, one upstairs and one down. French doors that lead to a large wrap around deck with views of the Harbor and open ocean.
Located in a quiet fishing village great for hiking, kayaking, beach-combing,puffin and whale watching tours and sight-seeing....Lobsters are sold a short walk from our house.
  • My stay at the cottage was enjoyable. The house is nice, but there's a lot of furniture in the house. The town was quiet and you have a great view. All together it was a good trip.

  • Michelle and Micah were wonderful hosts! Their quaint, quiet, and scenic cottage overlooking beautiful Cutler Harbor was a great place to stay! It was within walking distance to the harbor for our puffin tour, a small library across the street, and to purchase fresh lobster for dinner. Michelle gave lots of information and recommendations for things to do and see in the area. We especially enjoyed a tour at the Maine Salt factory (free) and a visit to Bartlett Winery. Also when we let them know of a potential problem with the hot water heater, they were there quickly to fix the problem. When our original puffin tour was cancelled due to weather, we were able to be rescheduled the next week and drove back with no place to stay. Even though their place was full, she sent several recommendations for us that worked great. We loved the local charm and hospitality and would definitely stay here again!

  • This house was perfect for 5 adults. Great location. Beautiful view.

  • Overall, the place was quite interesting. We love the quietness of the town, the closeness of getting the lobster, and the uniqueness of the more-than-hundred-year-old house. We wish that we could arrive in the afternoon so that we could enjoy more. Please make sure that you will have a good cell phone (find out which carrier works better in that area) if you are not familiar with the place and try to drive during the night. It could be very challenge because no cellular signal in the area. The host did their best to make our stay as comfortable as possible which made us feeling much better after all.

  • We were provided a great list of activities to do in the area and the location was perfect. We took lovely walks to the Harbor and Library. We really enjoyed the tranquility of Cutler.

  • Beautiful view. Modern exterior paired with clean, neat, vintage interior. The staircase to the bedrooms is steep.

  • Beautiful views from every room in the house. Charming and relaxing.

  • Harbor View was really lovely and the views were truly amazing from all angles. We were able to travel to Lubec and go whale watching, hike on the coast and enjoy wonderful seafood. Michelle was welcoming and offered us terrific ideas on where else to visit and was always ready to respond immediately to email questions. My parents loved the house, as did my children. There were spaces for everyone to relax at the end of the day, including an amazing deck that we did not use enough. Harbor View was the peaceful and warm Maine setting we were hoping for -- thank you, Michelle.

And the mermaid dreamed that one day, she too could live in a little magical cottage on the harbor. If only for a little while. And then her dreams came true. Water views from EVERY window. PLEASE READ DETAILED DESCRIPTION FOR SLEEPING ACCOMMODATIONS AT DIFFERENT TIMES OF THE YEAR. Day trip to Acadia Nat'l Park & Bar Harbor or just relax and watch the harbor activity.
Welcome to the FRISKY FISH COTTAGE. The Frisky Fish is a year-round (two bedroom) waterfront cottage along with a SEASONAL (generally July and August) boathouse/bunkhouse/artist studio/playhouse located in beautiful Bucks Harbor, Maine........................................................ It is the perfect place for those looking for an authentic down east Maine experience and adventure. Watch the lobster boats come and go and unload their catch, directly from the front yard of our tiny cottage.
Bucks Harbor is the working fishing/lobstering village in the town of Machiasport, Maine. You will hear the chug-chug-chug of the boats in the harbor and the caw of the gulls. Both across the water and sometimes, just across the street, you might hear the bahhh of sheep or the moo of a cow (or some fiddle music from across the water). The Frisky Fish is also just under a mile to the world famous Jasper Beach with it's melodious and unique music from the waves hitting the rocks. A must not miss experience.
  • Interesting location on a working harbor, it was cool to watch the tides roll in and out. Despite a nor'easter storm knocking our power out for a half day, we had a good stay. Maria is a fine host and communicative, she made sure we were well taken care of during the power outage, by sending a local property manager over to hook up a generator. Plenty of artwork around the place, my favorite piece was the character with fangs heading up the stairwell. My wife liked the Kennedy sketching of the horse stables, located in the upstairs bathroom. There was an assortment of random games and dvds, we enjoyed the small marble chessboard. Jasper beach is nearby which satisfied all of our inner-rock hounds. For food I can recommend the lobsta roll from Helen's or the Bluebird in downtown Machias. Overall a nice and certainly unique spot. Happy New Years 2017!

    Nicholas2017-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • What a great space. The doors and really big windows were literally feet from the water's edge -- views everywhere you looked. There were floating rafts with lobster traps (being a real working harbor) and almost everyday eagles were perched, eyeing their next meal. Across the water, I could see sheep and goats of a small farm. Just a real treat for the senses. I was able to walk my dog all around the area, and almost never saw another person or car (although it WAS December). I do imagine that this area is bustling in the summer months, but all of the activity would probably would be fun to watch. The pier around the corner holds postcard picture views and we found quite a bit of beach glass on Finn Beach (which the cottage is actually on) and Jasper Beach -- (about a mile down the road and a must-see stop). Maria was a great host -- she answered all of our questions thoroughly. It was obvious that she's been doing this for awhile and really enjoys what she does. The home itself was spotless, new and very open. It was more like a 'tiny house' but so open that it gave the illusion of being bigger than it actually was. Perfect for couples or a small family. We'll definitely be back.

    Gary2016-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Maria was a great and very responsive host. The Frisky Fish Cottage on Bucks Harbor at Finn Beach is a little slice of heaven on the Bold Coast of Maine! Enjoying a cup of coffee while looking out over the working Harbor as the fog rolls in and out of the cove is simply one of the best ways to start the day in Machiasport! Breakfast, lunch and/or dinner (we did all three) at Helen's is also required eating while visiting the area. If you are looking to avoid the crowds of the southern beaches of Maine or other New England coastal vacation destinations check out Wicked Awesome Maine vacation rentals. We travelled with our two young children and were a bit worried that it was too remote of a location for them to really enjoy the trip. We were pleasantly surprised that both of our kids had a blast and despite the quiet, remoteness of the Machiasport location everyone had a blast visiting the local beaches (Jasper Beach is a must; make sure to visit Riverside takeout for a picnic lunch on the beach) and enjoying the local seafood! The Frisky Fish Cottage is just an easy, short ride away for a day trip to Bar Harbor and an excursion of Diver Ed's Starfish Enterprise.

The farm is close to The Roque Bluffs State Park beach and hiking trails. We have our own private access to the ocean and have great views. You’ll love the farm because of the outdoor space, peace and surrounding community. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids), and well behaved furry friends (pets).
Cabin has two full size beds, a fully equipped kitchenette and bathroom with shower. Cabin has a outside living space with campfire and picnic table.
The farm is located along Englishman's Bay of the Atlantic Ocean. Lobster fishing is a major source of revenue here.
  • This place was a perfect secluded quiet place with beautiful scenic view on the road. Fall in love with Maine! Lisa was a great host, the cabins are perfect for a quiet gateway in the wood near the ocean.

  • We stayed her while on our honeymoon in Maine, and had an absolute blast. It wasn't blueberry season yet, but the view from and of the farm and blueberry fields is breathtakingly beautiful. Wayne, Lisa and Alex taught us to dig clams at low tide late in the evening. We had so much fun clomping around in the mud- it was a big highlight of our trip! Your hosts here are incredibly generous with their time, knowledgeable in many things, and incredibly warm and hospitable. The cabin was warm and cozy, with plenty of blankets, a heater and kitchen equipped with everything we needed to make some good meals (we steamed our clams with a little wine we bought in Machias). We only wish we had booked a longer stay here. We hope to come back and visit again soon!

    Michael2017-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • Lisa's place was an absolute delight! I stayed for six weeks while doing research in the area, and I couldn't have been happier. The cabin was cute and cozy. Lisa clearly spent a lot of time and effort in getting it set up for the guest's maximum comfort. It had everything I needed, and nothing extra. It was spotlessly clean when I arrived, and all the basics were in place. The kitchen was perfect for my needs for all six weeks, and I am someone who likes to cook! The decor of the cabin, with beautiful woodwork for the counters, was perfectly appropriate to Downeast Maine. The location was also ideal. I know a couple of reviewers have suggested it is far from everything, but it was only 6 minutes drive into Machias where there is a big supermarket and a pharmacy. In the opposite direction, you could get to the really beautiful Roque Bluffs State Park in just a few minutes. The farm itself, a very active Blueberry farm, is lovely. I spent many happy hours exploring it from top to bottom with my dog, and I found more than one wonderful spot to sit and watch the sun set. Lisa and the rest of her family were incredibly warm and welcoming. They took me into their home and showed me around their farm, answering my millions of questions with great patience and humor. Even though it was a very busy time of year for them (harvest), they never failed to take care of me or anything I needed. That said, they knew I was there to work and they were extremely respectful of my privacy and need for quiet time. They were there whenever I wanted or needed them, but never intruded when I didn't. Having stayed for so long, I can tell you that communication with Lisa was always excellent. If I needed anything or had any questions about the cabin, everything was taken care of right away. I'm already "homesick" and looking forward to my next stay!

    Elizabeth2017-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Lisa is a super nice host and very knowledgeable. I have learned a lot by simply chatting with her, from local stories to general topics, from blueberry farming to real estate. The cabin is rustic and simple but it has everything we needed. The farm + cabins sit on a decent size property and it would be a decent hike on nice weather days. Thanks again for having us Lisa!

    Louis2017-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay- especially the land and beaches. This is a more rustic cabin style, bring all amenities.

    Stephanie2017-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great caring family. Clean and homely cabin located on a beautiful farm.

    Molly2017-05-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great, very VERY clean basic cabin in a beautiful spot. We live under 2 hours away and just wanted a nice "base camp" for our July 4th weekend, and Lisa's cabin was perfect. We appreciated being able to sit by a fire after spending the day hiking in the area, and we got to experience an absolutely stunning sunset from the top of the hill at the farm. Lisa and her father were extremely gracious and helpful and went above and beyond, making sure we had a fan as it was very warm when we were there.

    Lauren2017-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I were looking for a quiet, peaceful, scenic getaway. Oh boy did we find it! We pulled up to the farm, and we were surrounded by the most beautiful views! We met Lisa, who was putting the finishing touches on the cabin ( we arrived a bit early.) Lisa is very friendly, and was such a great host! She gave us information on places to eat, get supplies etc. We took a walk on the farm, and the blueberry fields were breathtaking! The cabin: It has all of your basic needs. A toilet, shower, mini-kitchen and beds. A heater is also provided with extra blankets if needed. These cabins are for people who enjoy camping, but with a few of the extra comforts. The cabins are perfect for 2-4 adults or two adults and two children. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this place, and we definitely plan on renting one of these for a week next time! Suggestion: Wake up early in the am, grab a cup of coffee, and walk to the top of the hill.... There you will find a picnic table to sit at overlooking the bluff.... Incredibly beautiful! Also, if you’re into craft beer, Skywalker’s Pub is a great place to get a good drink and good food!

My home is 10 miles from Lubec and Quoddy Head State Park, Eastermost point in the USA. It is a one story house with barn out back on 20 acres of land. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and families (with kids).
Our house is one story; steps getting in and also wheelchair ramp if needed. Large living room with sliding glass doors looking out over back yard. Large bathroom (shared only with other guests) with washer and dryer. Each room has own closet and dresser. South room also has small table. Coffee, tea and continental breakfast will be available. Barn situated about 200 ft away. You may see our llama, chickens and possibly a calf or two. You might even see a deer!
Lubec, the Easternmost point of the USA, is about 10 miles from here. There you can find restaurants, great views and, over the bridge, Campobello Island, New Brunswick Canada. If you go to Canada, remember your passport. Just 1 mile down the road is Cobscook Community Learning Center(CCLC) where they host several events, including the Doweast Spring Birding Festival. There are several hiking trails in the area. One of my favorites is the Bold Coast Trail.
  • Kathy and John were excellent hosts! They made sure we were comfortable, helped us find the sites, and even gave us a late check out so that we could shower after our half marathon. We would definitely stay again!

The Kelley Lodge is close to Great Wass Nature Conservancy and hiking trails,Backfield Park with beach access, Sandy River Beach and the Bayview Takeout, recently voted Best lobster roll in Maine and Massachusetts by USA Today. You’ll love the Kelley Lodge because of the ocean front views where you can see all of Moosabec Reach and lobster boats. Guests will enjoy the friendly small town atmosphere. Great place for honeymooners, families, or solo adventurers.
This house belonged to my Great Aunt and Uncle and is 200 years old. It was floated over to its current location from near by Head Harbor Island. All or the rooms have been newly renovated, but still with the older rustic feel. There is a beautiful sun porch on the east side of the house overlooking Moosabec Reach and the other surrounding islands. The kitchen has a fully functioning gas stove, oven, coffee pot, and toaster which can accommodate to all your cooking needs. The house has a heat pump to warm you up on the cooler Maine nights, along with plenty of cozy blankets. The living room has a flat screen TV with over 100 DVD's and Blu-Ray movies to choose from. There is also a movie shop to rent movies just minutes from the house. There is Wi-Fi access at the house, but no cable or satellite. The master bedroom includes a full size bed, walk in closet and a dresser. The second bedroom has a full size bed, a closet, and dresser. The house is cozy, quiet, and perfect for couples, families, honeymooners, or even a solo adventurer.
The house is located on the quiet island of Beals, right in the heart of Downest Maine. The island offers the beautiful Great Wass hiking trails, kayaking, and a sandy beach located at the Backfield Park. For a great Maine experience guest need to visit the Bayview Takeout. With fresh local seafood, burgers, salads, ice cream, and so much more, this place ia a must!! The mainland of Jonesport also offers many things for guests. There is a grocery store, hardware store, and 2 convienence stores.
  • Kelly Lodge was exactly what my husband and I wanted for our honeymoon. The house is filled with character and charm, and had a beautiful view. • We needed a place to stay after exploring Jasper Beach to break up the drive to Belfast and this was perfect. Frank came right over to say hello as soon as we pulled up amd offered some great exploring recommendations (we loved the nature reserve). House is very basic but clean and quiet and that worked for us.

    Julie2016-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! What a charming home, wonderfully situated right on the shore. Frank was aroud to see to our every need, although the place was so perfectly set up that we needed no further help. The location is wonderful, the perfect antidote to the hordes at Acadia - we walked the trails on the adjoining island, Great Wass, and didn't see a soul. And Frank's Bayview Takeout really does do the best lobster roll in Maine (and probably the world). We loved it.

  • Terry's place is my first Airbnb experience, and I have to say -- it was quite amazing! The room was very clean, simple, and yet elegantly designed. I was also provided with travel guides, a very healthy breakfast, and handcrafted espresso! The entire place feels like a rich experience of minimalist interior design and architecture built on top of a modern, organic cafe. If you are still wondering if you should check in here -- the answer is: yes. I know I will be back in the future for sure!

We definitely are going to come back. This place is a gem and a wonderful getaway from a busy life. Her coffee and delightful breakfasts were always something to look forward to, along with chatting with Ms. terry . Her dog June and cat Pud made our stay all the more wonderful. • This is a wonderful place to stay! The house is tastefully restored and furnished and it is very well maintained with ever so much love for the detail. Terry has great knowledge about Maine, the area, its history, economy, politics and the people. Being visitors from Germany we were especially grateful to her for sharing that with us. The breakfast is outstanding - there were three different cooked breakfasts on three successive mornings, All of them extremely tasty and healthy at the same time with local, fresh ingredients. Terry also has great ideas for trips to the Lubec area as well as hiking trails near by. Don't miss a whale watching trip and the puffins.

  • Terry gave us a warm welcome on arrival,. We stayed a couple of peaceful nights, and we left after a most delicious breakfast. This included homemade muesli, fresh fruit including blueberries of course, a poached egg and toast with coffee. June the dog and Pud the cat also made us feel at home. There are plenty of books to read if you have time, and the location is a few miles drive from the Bold Coast Charter company that run trips in a lobster fishing boat converted for passengers to Machias Seal Island to see the puffins and other birds.

  • This was an interesting experience. Staying with Terry was our first time using Air B&B and she definitely knows what she's doing. Her home is immaculate and she is very detail oriented and to that point she prefers you not take too long of a shower. (Maine conservationist and all) She gave us a few tips most of which we followed and it added to the trip. She's a nice person and a good host. Lovely home, good distance for us being about 30 minutes from Lubec.

Beautiful views of Roque Island across the Bay. 6 miles to authentic working lobster villages - Jonesport & Beals Is. Setting is rural, private, peaceful. It is an ideal location if you are looking to get away from the crowds and traffic jams of so many summer tourist locations. It is like stepping back in time to a slower, unhurried pace. Stunning sunrises, amazing night sky w/o light pollution. Bald eagles, shorebirds, seals. Walk out on Great Bar at low tide, harvest your own fresh mussels.
Cottage is clean and well cared for. It is cozy, comfortable, and light with an open floor plan. We hope you will treat it with care if you stay with us. It is a special place. It was our vacation retreat until we built a retirement home nearby and moved here full time in 2007. Twin beds can be made up as king upon request.

The views, they are breathtaking. Every single room has an outstanding view. Beautiful landscaping. Picked out lobster off the boat, so tender and sweet. It is quiet, relaxing, comfortable and perfect. The bold coast is now a family favorite. Can't wait to go back to do more hiking. Everything about this vacation was perfect.

We went to visit Acadia and ended up staying away from it altogether because we found so many less-visited places that were just as beautiful and easier to access. Austin House is located in a small coastal village in Maine. The home was once an inn during the late 1800's - and has been completely renovated in 2010 and so is now like a new home but still retains the feel of past times.
Austin House is a cozy place to return to after a day of sightseeing or hiking. You may enjoy a sit on the porch in a rocking chair watching the tide rise and fall in the Pleasant River, relax in lawn chairs in the seclusion of the back lawn, or just have a relaxing soak in the clawfoot tub. The house is only 2 miles from Hwy 1 providing quick access to sites east and west.
This is a unique area in Maine where few tourists venture. The beauty of the coast is the main attraction here, although the lakes and mountains just a short drive from the coast are just as enjoyable. Whether hiking or driving, the views provide endless hours of sight seeing. There are many hiking trails within 30 minutes drive by car from the house with scenic views of the Maine coast. The town has a public boat landing, so if you are a kayaker, sailor, or have your own boat, you can launch it just down the street. You can purchase lobsters at the wharf just down the road in South Addison. We have a large lobster pot so you can cook them up yourself.
  • Lynne’s place is amazing for a quiet getaway. This is definitely not a tourist town, which was great for us. I have no complaints about the house at all. You will definitely need access to a vehicle. Almost anything you could want to do in Maine is within an hour or two from the house. Would definitely stay here again!

  • We very much enjoyed our stay in Addison. The house was wonderful and our hosts were welcoming and very helpful! We hope to return!

    Joseph2016-06-06T00:00:00Z
  • Lynne and her husband are fantastic people who were very welcoming. They were in the front garden working and getting ready for us when we drove up. They walked us through the house, showed us the details of the house (including the history of the house), and were very attentive. They even brought us more pillows just in case we needed more (there were plenty to begin with!). They were wonderful to talk with and had worked hard to make this wonderful home feel like a perfect place for us to stay. The dining room table is incredible, and the renovation work they have done is outstanding. We really enjoyed our stay there, and I would easily stay again. And next time I would want to sit and talk with Lynne for a while.

  • Wonderful wonderful wonderful! This is a beautiful, historic house in Downeast Maine. The hosts have everything you might need in the house. Everything is easy to find, well organized and labelled. We were quite late getting in because of massive traffic delays, and the hosts worked with us by leaving us the keys to pick up. They then stopped by on another day to say hello. Lynne and John are both very pleasant and accommodating. Lynne has a lovely vegetable garden in front of the house, and she offered to share her vegetables with us. The house is located in a sleepy little town (everything closes quite early), that is, nevertheless, quite close to the major sights. Bar Harbor and Acadia are an hour away; there is also the Schoodic Acadia that is about 35 - 40 minutes away (we did not make it there, however). We got very lucky with the weather; but even if it had rained the whole time, the house is nice enough to stay in and make a vacation of that. We loved our vacation, and would highly recommend the house to anyone who is interested in exploring Maine or just getting some quite time away from civilization.

  • It's a special experience to stay in a fully renovated historic house. Lynne and John are great people. We have wonderful time there. Thanks!

  • Listing was accurate. Everything was as described. House was nice and its history and restoration were carefully documented. Lynn and John were very helpful and accommodating and gave useful information about the area. We enjoyed the tomatoes and onions from their garden.

Nestled in the heart of Downeast Maine, our cottages are a peaceful retreat. You can enjoy fishing, canoeing, swimming and more. From late June through mid-August, we rent weekly only (Sunday to Sunday). Springtime weekly rate shown below.
This single level cottage features a field-stone fireplace. There is also a monitor heater for those cold nights. It has a cozy kitchen and dining area, a living room, bathroom with shower and two bedrooms that sleep 4. One bedroom has a double bed and one has 2 twin beds. The screened porch overlooks Robinson's Pond and is a short walk to the swings, badminton/volleyball net and swimming area.
Edmunds Township is in a very rural area within 30 minutes of a variety of coastal towns and activities. The property boasts a man-made pond and the Dennys River. We are also only a few hundred yards from the Sunrise Trail. The closest stores are in Pembroke, a 6 mile drive. There are a Dollar General and two convenience stores. These have some groceries and takeout options. The closest sit-down restaurant is 12 miles from us in Perry, but most are located in the towns of Machis, Calais, Eastport and Lubec which are a 20-30 mile drive. Many restaurants and stores close early here, so it's best to call ahead for hours if you are planning a later arrival. All of the cottages have a kitchen so cooking for yourself is an option. Coming from the north, the last stop for groceries is Calais and coming from the south, the last stop for groceries is Machias. Both are about 25 miles from us.
  • Amazing location and quiet and cozy cottage on the lake! Very accommodating for a late arrival, had lights, heat on etc. Would highly recommend for a relaxing getaway! We had a fire and relaxed the whole time. Went out on the lake on their complimentary canoes! Beautiful location. Great for pets too! Thanks so much! A+

  • Nice, private, quiet location right on the water. We spent the night in the scree porch away from bugs listening to the bullfrogs. Very peaceful.

  • Really cozy little place. Sleeps a lot of people! It was very warm with the heater and we enjoyed cooking and sleeping there for the evening. Thank you!

  • Our stay at the Robinson's was a perfect experience for the night before running a half-marathon. Their cozy cabin offered peace and quiet right next to a beautiful pond with easy access to a number of rowboats and canoes. The cabin itself offered all the amenities one would need, including a comfortable bed that helped us get a great night's sleep before the half-marathon the next day. Teresa and Bill were always available and courteous when we had questions about their place, and I would highly recommend all travelers to enjoy a night at their cabins!

Small family cottage directly on the sea. Located in a traditional downeast fishing town, the property has wide ocean frontage providing a front row seat to the busy working waterfront.
  • Jonesport is right out at the end of the world--beautiful spot. We just wanted to stay put, not run around to see the area, but I am already familiar with Downeast Maine. The cottage is comfy, kitchen has everything, tv, nice deck for watching the lobster boats, and truly gorgeous gardens. Found a good take-out restaurant just over the bridge on Wass Island. Also a good full grocery store on the way inyo town. Very peaceful stay--didn't want to leave!

  • It was "as expected" b/c I expected the stay at the cottage to be wonderful, and it was! Karen and her two siblingswent out of their way to make us feel comfortable and welcome. The cottage, the garden, and the setting were just what the doctor ordered. It's a serene setting overlooking a fishing bay, so "rush hour traffic" was watching the lobster boats going in and out. Comfortable, quiet, picturesque and cozy - just what the doctor ordered!

  • We had a wonderful time the house sits right on the ocean we watched the lobster boats go out every morning. The sunsets were beautiful. The house is just as described and Karen and Lynn were excellent hosts. Lynn even took us to see the wild blueberry fields and her camp. We watched their brother head out in his lobster boat and there was a lobster pound just behind the house. We were just between Bar Harbor and Eastport about 1 1/2 to each location

  • The place was very charming and the garden was beautiful. Bring some games and be ready to relax and spend some time with your family and friends. The town for us was remote and you had to drive a little bit for some stores, which is what we were looking for. The host was great to work with!

A beach cottage sitting in the dune grass of a rare "downeast" private sand beach. It is literally about ten paces from the deck to the sand! Incredible sunrises and sunsets, a crackling fire, waves gently lapping the sand and cool ocean breezes whispering through the cottage in the evening after a day in the sun and sand.

  • This apartment is spacious and well-equipped. The hosts have obviously put time and thought into preparing it. We used it as our home-away-from-home to explore Campobello, the Schoodic Peninsula, and the upper coast of Maine.

  • The setting was quiet and just what we were looking for. There was an unexpected bonus of a nearby private beach that overlooked the ocean! Wow, that was a treat!

  • David and Donna's house is very nice for a few days retreat. It is close to the woods and a beach is only a few minutes walk away. Excursions to the national Park or Bar Harbour can be done by car and the hosts were very helpful in providing information. The apartment gives privacy and the hosts are in the next house. We especially enjoyed the kitchen where we found everything we needed after a long day of travel.
