“This fresh blue water lake is a tourist destination! Beautiful views of the lake and redwoods forest! Learn about the history of our beautiful blue and green lake! Catch a bus to Rotorua from the bus stop, prices range from $40-$70 per ticket bus also has wifi! Stay at a small hotel down Rotorua and experience the highest tourist place in NZ. Have a small bbq and relax in the sun while the kids play in the shallow water on the edge. ”

“The short trip to Blue Lake is well worth the effort. It's a great spot for a walk (path right around the lake), a swim or just time relaxing.”

“Great food and service close by to your stay! Just 1.7km down the road from your stay is The Landing Cafe. Their 2 chefs, Pete or Ratana have created a new menu and their food is legendary. It certainly pays to call and book as they can be busy or conversely if its a bit quiet they will close early. I visit there often and give this place the big thumbs up recomendation! ”

“Not so much a hike, but a delightful board and nature walk through a wetland and along one edge of beautiful Lake Okareka. There is a little bird hide along the way where you can peek out and try to spot a dabchick or coot. The walk takes about 30 mins to the end, where you will need to turn around and come back along the same path. There is good parking at the track start.”

“The stunning Blue Lake, and next to it the Green lake set in native bush. You can walk around the blue lake in an easy 5kms. Or drive to the middle lookout spot between the two lakes and look from one to the other. Drive on to look out at lake Tarawera and view the mountain that exploded in 1886. The Blue Lake is good for a swim in summer and early Autum”
