  • BEAUTIFUL nature + the COMFORTABLE and QUALITY lodge. What else do I need for holidays? Well equipped kitchen, good beds, clean bathroom...everything was just like photos. Also we found lots of board games, DVDs, CDs even a binoculars! These made us feel that we really rent a somebody's home not a room only for a rent. Ralph was kind enough to call us in the evening we arrived to check everything was fine. Every communication was easy and smooth. Actually I wasn't sure about location before staying, but while going up and down to Windermere area, it gave us real breathtaking (URL HIDDEN) location was perfect for us too. It was really happy stay here and my family really loved this place. Thank you Ralph!

  • The lodge was a perfect setting for our weekend. Extremely well kept and clean, even better than the pictures. Ralph kept in touch from booking the accommodation to our arrival and responded very quickly to any questions. We had everything we needed there and had a lovely, relaxing weekend.

    Jessica2015-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • We all loved Ralph's fantastic lodge - it was very comfortable and luxurious with plenty of space and everything you could think of for your stay. We really appreciated Ralph's phone call to welcome us to the lodge too! All in all, we can't fault our stay - the perfect place for a girls weekend :-). Thanks and all the best to you, Ralph!

  • The cottage was just as described and as seen on photographs. It was clean, tidy, and importantly, very warm! These were very important as we were travelling with a toddler. Ralph made us feel extremely welcome by personally phoning to make sure we have arrived safely and that everything was in order. He also gave generous advice on the nearby attractions and things to do whilst in the Lake District. The cottage was very well placed to allow us to explore the northern part of the Lake District which was absolutely beautiful!

  • Outstanding host and cabin

    Laurence2016-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • We have had a fantastic stay at the cabin. It is very clean and modern with everything you need for a relaxing break. Spotted red squirrels from the front window! We would definitely recommend a stay

    Jason2016-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • Overall the stay was very good and the communication between the hosts and us was very good. The way that you collect your keys is superb and means you can arrive whenever you like. The house is very well equipped, so there is no need to bring anything from home. Great location and very quiet. Would defiantly stay again.

A small barn conversion in an idyllic setting in the Northern Fells, Lake District. You will have your own little cottage. Completely self contained with a kitchen/living area. A small bathroom and two bedrooms upstairs. One double & one small twin. Spacious enough for 4 adults. Relax and enjoy!
We have just installed a new kitchen downstairs incorporated into the living area which has a dishwasher, washer/dryer, fridge, cooker and hob. Very well equipped for all your cooking needs. A small bathroom with hand basin & loo. Hand held power shower. Upstairs one good sized double bedroom with chest of drawers, bed side tables and lamps. Lined curtains. One small twin bedded room with full sizes single beds, bed side tables with lamps, black out blind and lined curtains. Crisp white Egyptian cotton bed linen on all beds and down duvets. Towels are also provided. Built in cupboard/wardrobe on the landing. The cottage sleeps 4 adults comfortably. Or perfect for a couple with one or two children. Or just a couple or 4 friends. Plenty of storage in a hanging cupboard in hall upstairs and large chest of drawers in double room. The bathroom is downstairs. A terrace with table and 4 chairs. You will be totally independent or if you wish we can advise on walks and the area. This is great walking country and you can choose to climb the famous fells or just meander around one of the beautiful lakes. My husband is very knowledgeable about the mountains and fells and can advise on walks, cycle rides and climbs. We have our own co-operative pub in the village, The Old Crown which serves it's famous Hesket Newmarket beers brewed in their own brewery behind the pub. They serve dinner (not Mondays!) and great Sunday lunch. Always pre book if you want dinner. We are also close to The Mill Inn in Mungrisedale which serve good food and very child friendly as well as The Boot and Shoe in Greystoke. And one of our new favourites The Horse & Farrier in Threkeld. This part of the world is foodie heaven. Great local produce is widely available and there are wonderful places to dine within a half an hours drive. Our nearest supermarkets are in Penrith, huge choice; Cranstons Food Hall for upmarket produce and fresh meats. Aldi, Morrisons, Booths and Sainsburys. Keswick for independent Co-op. And Booths an upmarket supermarket again selling local produce. The pub is within walking distance. A 15 min walk down the lane into the village. Or over the style and through the fields which takes about 25 minutes. Or a 2 min drive.
This is a very special part of the world and the views and mountains are second to none. If you have never been then you really must make time to explore the area. We can offer you a cosy and private getaway. Our lovely village with it's own pub and shop/post office and tea rooms is a 20 min walk through the fields or down the lane or 2 mins in the car. We are only 2 miles from Caldbeck, a slightly larger village with a shop, gift shop, hairdressers and church. We are a 25 min drive to Keswick over the beautiful Caldbeck Commons and right onto A66. Where you will find a plethora of outdoor clothing shops as well as tea rooms, a co-op supermarket. Booths supermarket. A small Boots, WH Smiths and the wonderful Cornish Pasty shop. Fishers outdoor shop will hire out walking boots for adults and children. Best boot fitters in the area. We are a 20 min drive to Penrith for all your grocery needs. Cranstons is an upmarket Delhi selling wonderful local produce & great meat. Also an Aldi, a large Morrison's (cheapest petrol). Booths and a large New Sainsburys. Good independent shops, a small cinema, good deli. Also the Lakes Spa Hotel. A fabulous spa where you can book for a massage, facials, swim etc.
  • We had a great week at Sophie's Cottage. It was clean, modern with rustic charm and original features. Sophie was very welcoming and provided some little extras like eggs and bread on arrival, which was very helpful. The cottage made a great base for sightseeing and walking, cycling the stunning Lake District. Sophie was able to accommodate us for an extra night at short notice which was helpful and made a good impression on our daughter who thought she was marvellous.

  • I just managed to delete my first attempt at a review, but hopefully this rewrite will still come across as fresh and enthusiastic! Because it was such a brilliant stay for us. I honestly think it is the most relaxing and tranquil place I've ever had the pleasure to stay at (in?). And with such a warm and friendly atmosphere - the cottage, you the hosts, the countryside around us, and the village too. And it's beautiful. And there's so much to do. And Sophie and Jeremy are two of the finest and most inspiring individuals you'll meet. We will definitely be back asap, and want to attempt some more challenging treks with our little one in tow. There's so much more to do (and local ale to consume... And perfect sleep to enjoy). Thank you for thinking of everything. Love from Nadia, Simon and Rose x

    Nadia2015-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Arriving late on a sunday evening, we were very pleased with the warm welcome we received and by the provision of food for our breakfast(s)! (by the way it is great to have the possibility to rent for a few days and not necessarily the entire week like often in the lake district at this time of year). Sophie was very clear in the driving instructions prior to our arrival. She also prepared a very useful leaflet of advices concerning the house and the region (the selection of maps of the region at our disposal was very comprehensive and useful for our walks). In addition to be very well equipped and neat, the cottage had a lot of charm. The bed and blankets of prime quality made it very cosy (that plus the very quiet surroundings of the cottage= we slept very well) The location of the cottage on the northern edge of the national park did not prevent us from travelling well across the lake district (the road taking to the A66 crosses an amazing scenery).

    Mael2015-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Sophie is a lovely host. We received a very warm welcome and she made us feel very comfortable. Sophie recommended the perfect walking routes for each day and made sure that we are well equipped. Her cottage is a wonderful place to stay. We had everything we needed and enjoyed the peaceful und beautiful atmosphere. We would definitely come back again! Thank you, Sophie!

  • Sophie and Jeremy are definitely among the best hosts on this site! They went out of their way to help us with directions to places of interests, swapping out the Wifi router with their own when ours was being glitchy (thanks so much again for that!), just ever so welcoming and friendly. We had two dogs with us, one of which is quite vocal at times, but at no point did it seem to be an issue for which we are so grateful. The cottage is furnished impeccably and surfaces so clean you could eat straight off of them! It continues to be the best place to stay in the northern Lake District!

    Oliver2015-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Sophie and Jeremy were great hosts. Very knowledgeable, friendly and gave us great ideas to eat and hike. The apartment is well supplied and Sophie has added all the little touches to make it feel like home. A wonderful experience.

  • From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome. We were greeted like friends rather than guests. The accommodation was everything as described and more. It was clean, comfortable and homely. With everything we needed (and more again) for a weekend break. My husband who rarely sleeps more than a couple of hours was so relaxed that he had to be woken by me on the second morning with the promise of breakfast and coffee. The area surrounding was quiet which was fantastic, an easy 15 minute walk into Hesket Newmarket and only around 20 minute walk back (a slight incline). A great base for touring being in a quiet area, yet near the lakes and with good road links. Great recommendations for restaurants from our hosts. Thank you both for a fantastic break, we'd love to come back very soon.

Self-contained with a bedroom, living room, kitchen, and shower room. On the Reivers Cycle Route and the Coast to Coast
  • Lovely, spacious, self contained apartment in a peaceful village. The view from the kitchen is across rolling countryside and was wonderful. Isabel was very welcoming and made provision for us to store our cycles in the large kitchen. There is car parking space on the private drive, just outside the apartment. We had a lovely stay - thank you.

  • Very good flat in a nice little village. Very good pub across the road. Isabel was very friendly and welcoming and everything we needed was provided.

  • As seasoned travelers and first time users ot Airbnb ... We take this opportunity to thank Isabel for her hospitality and a wonderful stopover, we take with us nothing but the highest recommendation for her establishment, the Lakes and the Lake District provided the jewel in the crown.

  • "What can I say - I came here with my 13 year old son, this is a perfect picturesque Village location for a quiet break with either friends or family with much to do in the Local Area, beautiful walks and bicycle rides, and within easy driving distance of the North Lakes and Scotland, in addition it is close to Penrith and Carlisle where we visited the castle and Hadrians wall. The small village pub and tea shop add to the quintessential 'Englishness' of the village. Isobel is a delightful hostess and we were welcomed with home made biscuits, tea and coffee and a pint of milk. She was also knowledgeable on local attractions and suggested Rookin House Farm activities for my son where we had a brilliant days fun enjoying quad biking, Archery and JCB digging ! The flat was spotlessly clean and the twin beds comfy, helping us to a full nights sleep. The kitchen overlooks rolling hills to the rear and a beautiful garden growing a wide variety of flowers and fresh fruit and vegetables with seating to enjoy. I really can't fault it and will definitely be back".

  • Staying in Isabel’s flat was fantastic. It’s a very spacious place in the quiet village. It has lovely pub with really nice food and local ales. It’s very easy to get to Keswick with a car, where there are plenty of activities restaurants and walks available. Isabel is a great host.

    Ania2016-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay here. The accommodation is very quiet and peaceful and in a lovely rural area. (The cows come through the village twice a day for milking). The beds were comfortable and we slept well! It's perfectly situated for the northern Lakes and exploring the Solway Firth. Isabel was very welcoming and was on hand when we needed anything. We were cycling so we found the washing machine very useful and the flat warms up quickly after a day on the hills. There is a bench which catches the sun until about 5.30pm in the summer and provides a quiet spot to sit outside. There's a good pub in the village (we ate there, but you do need to book) and also a small shop for all the basics. We stayed for three nights. If we had stayed for longer, the only thing we might have missed was a cafetière for making coffee.

    Jan2016-06-27T00:00:00Z
  • It's a comfortable, clean spacious flat in a very pretty village opposite a lovely pub and micro-brewery. Isabel provides milk, tea and coffee but you'll need to take your own breakfast. Great hot shower, washing machine, oven, fridge and beautiful views from the kitchen window. Very convenient for fell walkers.

Away from it all luxury and spacious cottage, built around a 200 year old barn. Situated on the edge of the Caldbeck Fells, near the pretty village of Hesket Newmarket. Large enclosed garden. Family friendly. Wheelchair accessible. Dogs welcome.
The Badger Sett is a lovely 200 year old barn with modern single storey extensions to either side and is our home from home. We use it ourselves as often as we can (with our two children and very well behaved dog). In between times we invite you to come and enjoy it too. We want to make you feel at home and aim to provide the highest quality of facilities, fittings and service. Since buying The Badger Sett in late 2010 we’ve completely remodeled and refurbished the cottage to make it in to the comfortable, spacious and extremely relaxing place that it is today. The cottage is all on one level (so no stairs to worry about) and the safe, enclosed garden make it ideal for families with children. Inside is luxuriously furnished with a harmonious blend of funky modern, retro chic and antique furniture – there's no shortage of mod-cons but there are plenty of traditional features too. There are three large bedrooms, two with King size beds and one with two twin beds. The master bedroom has a wood burning stove, french windows on to the garden and a TV. The well equipped kitchen has everything you could possibly need and there are two bathrooms – so no queues in the morning! The cottage sits in its own grounds with beautiful views across the valley and is approached via a gated driveway from a very quiet country lane. There is an outside dining area with BBQ, off-road parking for up to three cars, a lockable store and a tap for washing muddy bikes and boots. The nearest house is the farm across the lane and the only neighbours you're likely to meet are the inquisitive and friendly bullocks who live in the field next door. Children (and adults) love the hammock which we hang between two trees at the bottom of the garden and the lawn is a nice size for an impromptu game of cricket or football. There's also free wifi if you find it impossible to leave work behind or you have teenagers suffering from facebook withdrawal. You will have sole access to the house and grounds during your stay. We live 80 miles away so you're unlikely to see us but we are always available by phone and email if you need us and we have a maintenance person for emergencies. The picturesque Lakeland village of Hesket Newmarket is just a one mile stroll down a peaceful country lane and is home to The Old Crown, Britain's first co-operatively owned pub which boasts its own micro-brewery and was listed by the Guardian as the one of the 100 best bars in the world! The remote Caldbeck Fells are on the doorstep and provide fantastic opportunities for walking and mountain biking. The classic peaks of Blencathra and Helvellyn are both close by and provide some of the best walking and scrambling routes in the UK. If you prefer more hustle and bustle the popular town of Keswick is a 25 minute drive away whilst historic Hutton-in-the-Forest with its famous horse trials is just around the corner. For long distance walkers The Cumbria Way passes through our valley and for road cyclists The Reivers Route (known as the Return CTC) goes right past the bottom of our drive! There are lots of things to do close by, including: • Hutton-in-the-Forest historic house • Go Ape – treetop adventures • boat hire and steamer trips on the lakes • Hadrian's Wall • Carlisle Castle • Lazonby outdoor swimming pool • The Eden Valley • The beach at St Bees The Lake District is the largest of the 13 national parks in England and Wales and is known the world over for its outstanding scenery of lakes and mountains. The nearest mainline train stations are in Carlisle and Penrith – both about 15 miles away. A car is essential. Facilities for children: We have a selection of toys and books for younger children and a wide range of dvds and board games for children (and adults) of all ages. There is also a Wii with a selection of games. The house is very safe for toddlers with no steps or stairways and the enclosed safe garden is a great area in which to play out. We provide a cot, highchair, baby monitor and night-lights for families with babies.
This corner of the Lake District is very different to the well known tourist hotspots. It's quiet, remote and you'll find that everyone you meet is very friendly – we love it!
  • This is a very comfortable home and tranquil setting in the North Lakes area. We did do quite a bit of driving to get to some hikes that we wanted to do but that is partly due to the types of roads in the area. We did love coming back to this "retreat" each evening.

    Fiona2015-06-26T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the house and the location. Everything was as described. It was very warm and cosy and more than suitable for four adults. It was an easy walk into Hesket Newmarket where there was a delightful little, pub and a small shop and tea room. Dominic was easy to contact and communicated with us promptly. The directions to the "Badgers Sett" were easy to follow.

    Gael2016-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • The badger sett was everything it was cracked up to be; beautiful, clean, modern facilities and in the loveliest little town. Dom was a great host, prompt with his replies and helpful from beginning to end. Couldn't have been better. Cheers Dom.

    Lou2015-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived at Dom's place in a snow storm. The Badger Sett is set in lovely gardens with nice views. Inside it is deceptively big and fitted out to a very high standard. It was lovely and warm and has everything a family of 5 needed for a great time away. I wouldn't hesitate going back to the Badger Sett. Bottle of wine on arrival was a lovely touch and very appreciated.

    Pete2016-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at the Badgers Sett. Such a quiet location with plenty of sky to star gaze at. The cottage is well presented and the beds are super comfy! If you want to stay in the Lake District but not in a tourist trap this is ideal!

    Tinkerbell-Harriet2017-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at Dom's place. The house was very clean and comfortable in a lovely spot in the Lakes.

A splendid recently upgraded 18th century stone cottage with lovely garden. Situated in an elevated position in the pretty village of Caldbeck. Sleeping six it is ideal for families or groups of friends wishing to explore the area.
The cottage has benefited from a major upgrade which has included the installation of a cast iron wood burner, which provides a wonderful focal point and is great to cuddle-up in front of after a day on the fells, and fitting of a solid oak floor. Ellwood House is in a quiet, rural location which makes the cottage a perfect place to retreat to at any time of the year for a "get away from it all" break.
Ellwood House is an 18th century stone built cottage located in an elevated position in the village of Caldbeck in the northern fells of the Lake District with open views. High Pike can be seen immediately due south of the cottage in the picturesque expanse known colloquially as "Back o' Skiddaw". Just 100 yards across the field below you will find Gill Beck which runs through the village with a footpath just behind. The area is great for exploring on foot or bike, and the Cumbria Way and Reivers Route both pass through the village. For those who still have energy left from walking the fells, tennis courts are available for booking just 200 metres away. The local pub serves excellent bar meals and there are many more places to eat in the surrounding villages.

  • We had such a fantastic stay. The hosts could not have been more helpful or thoughtful. We were amazed to find a homemade lemon drizzle cake as well as a bottle of prosecco waiting for us on arrival, not to mention the bacon, butter, milk and bread the hosts had kindly left for us. The cottage itself is so cosy and beautifully decorated and we loved the secluded location. We would definitely go back. Thank you!

Accommodation was beautifully presented, warm and cosy and fitted out with everything you would need. Mick and Rosie were fabulous hosts and had left us a lovely welcome gift of a bottle of wine and some delicious cupcakes. They also gave us some great recommendations on local pubs and walks. Would highly recommend staying here - we would definitely stay again.

  • Mick and Rosie were prefect hosts despite only giving them a days notice for our reservation. They were friendly and accommodating and available for advice whenever we needed it. The cottage was perfect for 4 adults 2 young kids and our dog. Very cosy, lovely beds and great showers! We had to watch the kids on the stone steps, but gates at the top and bottom prevented any wandering toddler and gave us peace of mind! We walked straight out the back door and around the surrounding fells, and the scenery from the house is breathtaking. We will definitely be back!

  • Had a great 4 days staying at Micks place and it was everything that we hoped for. We wanted to get away from it all and the location was spot on. We saw very few people while we were out and about and had some great walks right from the front door. Everything was to a very high standard and there was loads of room. Mick was on hand for local tips and changing a light bulb which was great. A beautiful spot managed very well by Mick and Rosie.

  • Mick and his wife were very welcoming to my partner and my two children and their cottage was very cosy, impeccably clean and peaceful in a wonderful location.

  • A wonderful cottage in a fantastic location. Off the beaten track (which is exactly what we were looking for) so you'll need a car. Close enough to Keswick (about 30 mins drive) and all it has to offer, and a great base for exploring the northern Fells. The cottage is very well equipped and Mick is a great host - we really couldn't have asked for any more for our stay in the Lakes.

High Pike is a spacious cottage attached to the 17th century Grade II listed High Greenrigg House. It was originally a barn and still retains the two story high barn doorway with its sandstone arch. The are two bedrooms, a king sized 4 poster on the first floor and a double on the ground. • We spent three nights at Mick’s place and it was just perfect. Warm, cosy, spotlessly clean and in a location that was fabulous. Absolutely no complaints and I wold seriously recommend this cottage, especially if you are wanting to have a lovely, peaceful break in stunning countryside.

    Russell2017-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the location in the middle of the fells with views from the windows but not too far from Caldbeck for pub dinners. It was a nice surprise to have a cake and a bottle of wine on arrival. Mick was on hand to give helpful advice where to walk nearby.

    Sue 2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottages - very well fitted and kitted out. Mick was a great host. Although it there is not much in the immediate vicinity the nearby villages had hospitable pubs and good food. Fells need a map for walking, but more gentle that Lakeland mountains.

  • Our stay at High Pike was perfect, and nothing had been overlooked in making it as relaxing and comfortable as can be. The leaflets describing local walks directly from the cottage were a thoughtful touch. The location was so beautiful and quiet, with the local pub 3 miles away, serving good simole grub and Keswick, Ulswater and Cockermouth all less than 30 minutes away. We'll see you next year for a longer stay!

Askew Mire is close to very little but open space. Across the road are the quiet Northern Fells, the Reivers cycle route and Cumbria Way go past the gate. Please note, there is no television and no landline. Mobile is varied, but Wifi is excellent. The nearest public transport is eight miles away, with an occasional bus coming to Caldbeck (three miles away). Guiding throughout the Lakes can be provided, check me out with a search for Mike Simpson Mountaineering. My website will fill you in.
There are great walks and cycles from the door. The heart of the Lakes and the Solway Coast are roughly a half hour's drive away. There are some great pubs ten minutes away in Caldbeck, Uldale, Hesket Newmarket and Ireby.
  • Mike was a great host and seemed such an interesting man with a good outlook on life!!! He made us feel so at home the minute we walked through the door! Such a cosy place to stay - especially as the weather is turning! - clean, tidy, full of interesting bits and bobs and we loved sitting by the fire in 'the snug'!

  • Mike's bolt hole was an absolute treat to stay at and Mike's hosting skills were exceptional. His place had everything you could need for a night of R&R after a long day on the Cumbria Way. It's is about an hour from Caldbeck. We arrived from Carlisle in the pouring rain and were greated with a roaring fire to dry our gear and a biscuit for our dog. Breakfast was fab - fresh local eggs watching the birds on his feeders! Thanks for a great stay Mike and we will definitely come back when we do the way again.

    Nicole2017-06-07T00:00:00Z

  • Great experience for staying in a traditional Cumbrian house. The environment is peaceful and beautiful, surrounded by large grassland and cute sheep. Mike is warm and very helpful. His house is clean and well decorated by interesting ideas. You'll also find a lot of travel books here. Location is too some extent remote and you need a car to get there. But as a result, you receive a quiet and hidden world. Totally recommend.

Our family think that Gill Beck is their favourite place in the world. As its our holiday home we've tried to make it as homely as possible so its warm, cosy and pretty, with comfortable beds, in the centre of a lovely tranquil North Lakes village.
Gill Beck has the best of all worlds. Its in the centre of a proper Cumbrian village community with lots going on - pub, village shop, historic church, fabulous river or fell walks right from the door but also within easy reach of Keswick with its theatre, Bassenthwaite, Penrith, the Northern Fells and the Solway coast.
We think that Caldbeck is unique in that it is a thriving community still with its own primary school and everyone is very friendly. Far removed from the traffic and bustle of the South Lakes life is very relaxed and farming is the main occupation. We have to keep the gates to Riverside shut as sheep are apt to wander in and eat our neighbours lovely flowers!
  • The cottage is really comfortable and very well maintained - a very relaxing place to stay with well proportioned accommodation. Caldbeck is the perfect mix of a lovely Cumbrian village but with the essential services you're likely to need (pub food; post office and store; cafe; gift shops etc). We found it the perfect location for exploring the northern Lakes and also the west coast and Solway Firth - which was a revelation to us.

    Andy2017-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Susie was not there to welcome because she lives a long way from the cottage. However, we got explicit instructions on how to access the property and gave us local contacts just in case we needed them. We had a couple of very friendly chats with the neighbours. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Gill Beck and it was a really good choice to use a a comfortable relaxing place where we could get ready for a long drive and then a much flight home after 3 months in the UK. We would certainly recommend staying at Gill Beck. We used it as a base for The Lake District but it could easily be used for a quiet getaway.

Located at the foot of Carrock Fell, walks can be taken from the door over the Back o Skiddaw or if this sounds too energetic the beautiful Eden Valley is a short drive away with flat rolling countryside, perfect for enjoying a bike ride. Easy access to the motorway means days out can be enjoyed on the Solway Coast, Hadrian's Wall, Eden Valley, Yorkshire Dales, the Pennines and Lancashire
  • Really enjoyed our stay at David's place. I was seeking a secluded country escape from London and that's exactly what I got. Nestled in a beautiful part of the Lake District and far away from the hustle and bustle with only the sound of lambs and birds; perfect! The cottage itself is comfortable and has everything you need, including quite new amenities, crockery etc. in the kitchen. I would very happily stay here again as it's a beautiful spot and easy to get to all areas of the Lake District. Only slight issue we had is that the hot water started to run out towards the end of our trip, however it did fill back up quite quickly as we were out during the day so it was fine in the end. Also, the shower is in the bedroom which made us laugh! Thanks for a great Easter weekend!

  • Great Value for Money. We have received a warm welcome on the day of arrival from Linda & Michael with a home made apple cake. We stayed their for 3 nights with kids and family and the experience is amazing. The house is maintained very well with all things that are needed for a lovely stay. Host stays next door and accessible when required. From this place, we have visited most of the lake district attractions and its not too far to go to any corner. We would love to visit this place again and I would definitely recommend this to friends and relatives. Special thanks to Linda and Michael for making our stay memorable.

  • The Oaks is a fabulous place with a generous open plan living area (with bar, which the teenager enjoyed posing behind and making everyone drinks) And five really well furnished and comfortable bedrooms - all of which had en-suites (except the twin room) It was the perfect place for a family gathering of three generations coming from different corners of the country being close to the motorway but a stones throw from Lake District. It doesn't have a garden but there is an outside seating area and wonderful greenery and walks all around. A fantastic place to stay and extremely good value.

  • This is a delightful place to stay, and has the benefits of en-suite facilities for all he rooms, so really luxurious. We only had 3 days but made good use of our time, exploring outdoors as much as we could and then enjoying the super facilities in the evenings. We were grateful for the board games, which we enjoyed. We did not light the fire as we were warm and cosy, and the beds were extremely comfortable. Having independent rooms with locks would make this a great place for a family with another to stay, or perhaps a group of friends who wanted privacy with a shared space downstairs.

  • Arrived late, great welcome from Michael and Linda, open fire burning giving a cosy home feel. Nothing to much trouble. House has all the amenities you could require. Beds fantastic so comfy. • The glamping pod is a little gem, in a lovely, quite and scenic location. The pod itself is as described, it seems small from the outside but has adequate room on the inside, perfect for a couple. The pod itself is very warm and we didn't have to use the heating, shower is great and the bed is really comfortable. I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it to others visiting the lakes. To get to the infamous osprey view points is around a 15-20 min drive and in to Keswick is around the same. Overall a lovely experience and Joanne was a fantastic host, happy to help in all aspects.

  • What a fantastic little gem! Only built in February the pod is sparkling and has everything you could hope for - a good shower, comfy bed, large fridge, real toilet, a tv and plenty of plug sockets. It is so peaceful and the bird song and beautiful views made our stay so relaxing - just what we were after! We also got to feed the hens which was great - and bought their delicious eggs to take home the next day! The location is remote so visitors probably need a car but the roads are good and you can access all the beautiful lakes nearby with ease. JoAnne was lovely and welcoming and taught us how to use the has BBQ. All in all an amazing place I would highly recommend and we will be back! X

  • This is a great little find just outside the Lake District, we stayed in cabin 1 and it was perfect for our 4 night stay, clean, cosy and equipped with everything you need. As the hosts state, all the facilities are clean and the showers are just a hop across the lawn and are powerful, there are toilets right next to cabin 1. The cabins boast a great view out across the Irish Sea and in the distance there is also Scotland so it really does have it all here. In case you are thinking you want to be right in the heart of the Lakes one thing we found handy here was that we were able to access Penrith and Carlisle easily, so if you are townies like us and are not used to the shops closing at 5pm it was perfect! The lakes are easy to access from the farm, Grasmere being approx 45 mins drive and Coniston a bit longer, we found a great pub for dinner the 'Horse and Farrier' in Threlkeld, lovely homemade meals that tasted and looked delicious, the pub was also cosy and popular, definitely worth a drive. All in all a great few days away, just such a shame that for us it's a 6 hour drive or we would be back sooner.

    Melinda2017-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • The cabins are well equipped appreciated wood burner on our cold wet August stay. Showers

  • A really great place to base yourself when exploring the lakes. A spectacular view, an amazing host and great cabins means that we will definitely stay here again if we come back to the lake District and we whole heartedly recommend that you stay here as well!

  • This place is fantastic! Easy to check in and then it's all yours! We stayed in cabin no 3 double bed and bunk beds. Clean and comfy everything supplied bedding, towels, pillows, tea towels, wash up liquid, dishcloth and a hover! It was all so easy going just what we needed to recharge. Thank you so much !

  • A very pleasant stay in the middle of the nature. The accommodation is very clean, well equiped. Very good contact with John who is very welcoming and very friendly.

  • Beautiful in February I imagine it is glorious in the warmer months. The toilets were heated and the showers were hot and free!

    Helen2017-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Just back from long weekend staying in cabin 1. Had a great time. All requirements catered for in the cabin. Very cosy. Comfortable bed. The toilet facilities nearby were very clean and tidy. And good spacious showers in the cabin down the field.

Cosy and comfortable lodge set in a tranquil position backing onto Greystoke Woods. Dukes meadow is midway between the Market Town of Keswick and the larger Town of Penrith which has all amenities. Just a short drive is Greystoke which has a local pub a small shop and an Outdoor HEATED pool. The nearest lakes are Ullswater and Derwent Water. If your looking for a cosy lodge set in a peaceful location only a short drive to many towns and villages lakes and walks then this is the place for you.
The lodge has three bedrooms sleeping 6 in 2 x DOUBLE AND 1 x TWIN ROOM
Dukes Meadow is in the Hutton Roof area where the park which has approx 30 pine clad lodges is set. It is a quiet tranquil area with an abundance of wildlife. The famous Greystoke Forest runs behind the park and its walks and cycling routes are accessed just a short walk/drive from the lodge.
  • We had a peaceful, relaxed and lovely stay. It was a wonderful break from routine chores. Excellent property and had no issues whatsoever. Thank you.

Dukes Pond is in a prime position overlooking the pond at Dukes Meadow. Perfectly based for exploring the northern Lakes and Eden Valley the development is a few minutes off the M6 with Lake Ullswater a 10 minute drive and Keswick 15 minutes away, a trip over Kirkstone Pass will take you to Ambleside and Bowness on Windermere. This dog friendly lodge is ideal for a family holiday at any time of year. Dukes Meadow is situated midway between Keswick and Penrith and within a short drive of Lake Ullswater, the park has 30 pine clad lodges mostly utilised by the owners but with a small few being available as holiday accommodation. There is a small stream running through the centre of the park and each lodge has its own garden where birds and red squirrels can regularly be seen, private parking and views over the countryside towards the Lakeland fells. The location of the lodges means there are ample walking opportunities from the door, the neighbouring Greystoke Forest and the surrounding countryside are all easily accessible, whilst the Lakeland Fells are all within a short drive. The park is within easy access of the motorway.
Dukes Pond is furnished and equipped to cater for all your needs, and as the name suggests, overlooks the small pond, one of the best positions on the park. The secure gated decking ensures privacy and prevents your four legged friends escaping.

My place is close to great views and the Lake district National park. You’ll love my place because of the views, the location, the outdoors space, the people, and the ambiance. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets). close to the village of Caldbeck 2.5 miles, keswick, penrith Carlisle and the coast all 20 to 30 mins away. our location is a fantastic base for the northern lakes yet quiet and peacful you will return.
this purpose built eco cabin is made from fully sustainable materials is fully insulated and double glazed. the cabin is heated by biomass eco boiler system and is supplied with electric from our main system including our 15kw solar panel array we will also have an eco hottub now fitted.
we are situated on a small farm in open country side, with the local village of caldbeck about 2.8 miles away. we are 6 mins drive from the town of Wigton with a full range of shops and supermarkets
  • John's place is in a very peaceful spot in lovely surrounding countryside. The nearest towns and villages lacked a decent restaurant, but I guess you have to except you are 'out in the sticks'. The cabin had everything we needed and more. Well equipped, clean and cosy! The hot tub was fab! You couldn't fault it really, and great value for money.

    Niki2017-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Really practical, easy & relaxing stay. Cabin is cosy, well laid out & has everything we needed. The log burner & hot tub were very appreciated. The local area was stunning, vast & open, with all the attractions of the Lake District within a drive away & other amenities even closer. We were here on honeymoon & couldn't have asked for a nicer time really - highly recommended!

    Tabz2017-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely place for a couple to. We spent more time in the hot tub than out of it while we were back at the cabin. Don't let the fact there are other cabins and cottages on site put you off. There is plenty of seclusion, a fenced garden which is ideal for dogs, and the gently flowing stream in the pictures is not somewhere else on the site, it's part of this let. I would love to have spent more time here, and the location that John has is a stone's throw from a nice town for provisions, and 20 minutes from Carlisle, which has a good selection of both independent and chain restaurants. We went quad biking in Keswick and that was also only a relatively short distance. Only thing that lets this one down is no fault of the property, it's the fact that there's currently a couple of road closures on the way in from the south which don't have the best diversion signage and caused the both of us to get lost in different places. To remedy this, I'd suggest coming of the M6 at Carlisle and heading in via the A595

This farmhouse cottage was converted from a 17th Century barn, adjoining a farmhouse. The accommodation is graded 4 Star by Visit England and has a large lounge/dining room, king size bed, shower room and fitted kitchen. The first floor games room with table tennis, pool and air hockey. We have good Internet connectivity, with between 5 and 8 Mbps and we are soon to be upgraded to Superfast broadband.
This fabulous farmhouse cottage was converted from the original 17th Century barn, adjoining a former farmhouse, called Beckfoot. The accommodation is extremely spacious; with a large lounge/dining room with a king size bed at one end, a separate fitted kitchen and a shower room. On the first floor there is a very large games room equipped with a full size table tennis table, pool table and air hockey table. Beckfoot enjoys a truly rural location, on the edge of the hamlet of Highbridge and close to the Caldbeck Fells.
We are in a fabulous rural location but only a few miles from the M6 motorway which makes access to the Lakes and Fells quick and easy.

  • It is a lovely place hosted by very helpful people. It is clean spacious accomodation in a nice setting. I would definitely use again. The only thing to take in to consideration is it can be a bit of a drive to some parts of the Lake District as is not inside but close to the National Park.

  • A wonderful little hideaway just North of the Lake District. I second what other reviewers have said, the pictures don't do it justice. Erica and Adam were wonderful hosts and the cottage had everything and more I could have wanted. Warm, clean, excellent wifi and within a short distance to the M6 it's a great place to explore the area from.

    Faye2017-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful quiet location, conveniently close to M6 and lake district, welcoming hosts and superbly equipped spacious cottage, fantastic all round! highly recommend.

  • What a great little place to have found. Idyllic surroundings, very peaceful, quiet and a real relaxing place to spend a few days and great value. Like a few others have mentioned, the photographs don't do it justice. Very comfortable, clean, with all the amenities you require for a short stay. Nice large TV (40" or thereabouts) - good WIFI, modern, fresh, tidy, good parking, lovely surroundings, friendly hosts who are helpful, but let you get on with your stay, your way. A highly recommended destination - my first time as an Airbnb customer and everything has exceeded my expectations. I would return for another stay.

  • Is this the best Airbnb in The Lakes? Quite possibly. The cottage is indeed cosy and has all the necessary amenities. The furniture and decor are all in first rate condition and the view from the lounge is wonderful. There are several walks nearby and Hesket Newmarket is ideally suited for exploring the lakes. Isabel lives nearby so was always available with advice and guidance. (It is worth saying that our aged parent found the access to the house very easy when he came for lunch.) We had a marvellous week and will be going back.

    Chris 2017-05-08T00:00:00Z
  • Very peaceful and comfortable house with a superb view down the valley. Hesket Newmarket is a delightful village with a shop and a pub, which does good food and ales. Excellent location for exploring the Lakes and the less crowded areas around Skiddaw.

  • Hidden gem! spacious inside & out, well equipped, beautifully landscaped, and very clean. The Internet is reliable , hot water is plentiful, and bed is comfortable. It was the perfect peaceful base to explore the Lakes Region. The thirty minute drive to one of the larger towns (supermarkets & shops) is gorgeous! The hosts live in the main house- they're very friendly and offered great recommendations. Perfect for couples, parking space provided, nearby pub and adorable town shop where you can find a few groceries. (Plan ahead and check their hours though). Overall, highly recommended. We'd love to visit again in the future.

  • What is there to say that other reviews haven't!? The cottage was gorgeous and in one of the most scenic little towns I've seen in the lakes. Just 30 minutes from Keswick, it's perfectly situated for anyone who is wanting a secluded getaway but isn't too far from the bustle of the rest of the lakes. The cottage itself was beautiful, clean and very well maintained. I'd recommend this to anyone wanting a short break.
