Appena prenotato a Coniston

The cottage is in the heart of the Langdale Valley, in the centre of the Lake District National Park. It is the perfect base for families and groups looking for high quality self-catering accommodation. The traditional 19th C property has been extended to take advantage of its elevated position and uninterrupted views down the valley. It has been renovated throughout and guests can enjoy it’s modern interior and facilities in this traditional cottage which now has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
The house has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms (4 of the rooms are ensuite and there is one twin room with a separate family bathroom). There is a large open plan living/kitchen/dining room which is great for socialising and get togethers with family and friends. The large dining table seats 10+ and the patio doors from the living room open up on to a balcony with views of the Langdale Pikes. There is a separate snug downstairs with a tv and dvd player. The house has 4 passes to the Langdale Spa and Leisure facilities which are about 1 mile down the road. Children 5 and under do not need a pass to use the facilities and additional passes can be purchased at half the usual daily rate if there are more people in your party who want to go at once.
Chapel Stile is a small village about 5 miles north west of Ambleside and boasts the key elements for a village – a shop, pub, café and church. You may not need to go any further although if you want to explore other local villages and towns Ambleside, Hawkshead, Grasmere, Coniston and Windermere are only a few miles away. The shop is well stocked with essentials, local farm produce and all sorts of odds and ends and the café, Brambles, is located above it. The excellent pub, Wainwright’s Inn, offers a warm welcome with its roaring fires, tasty food and wide range of beer on tap. The village of Elterwater is approximately 15 minutes’ walk where there is another first class pub – The Brittania Inn, which serves food and a café. The breath taking Langdale Valley runs from Ambleside to the imposing Langdale Pikes (peaks) and is flanked by Crinkle Crags and Bowfell Pike. It offers great walking and mountain biking at both high and low levels. Lots of walks can be started from the door of the cottage or are a short car or bus ride away; the Ambleside Rambler bus runs past the cottage. The impressive waterfall, Dungeon Ghyll, can be reached by a hike from Stickle Ghyll car park. Being in the centre of the National Park, the cottage is a great base for exploring further afield if you want to. Beyond enjoying the great outdoors here are a few tasters of what else is on offer: Castlerigg stone circle above Keswick to the north gives a taste of the area’s ancient history. Boat trips can be taken on various lakes. Whinlatter and Grizedale Forests offer purpose built mountain bike trails, Go Ape and other family activities in the forest. You can learn more about some of the Lake District’s literary history at Dove Cottage (former home of William Wordsworth) or the Beatrix Potter Gallery in Hawkshead. There are numerous eateries offering fantastic food – the Drunken Duck is not too far away near Hawkshead and Cartmel is home to the Michelin starred L’Enclume as well as the famous sticky toffee pudding!

  • Stunning place, stunning location. A must stay in the area...

    Jo2017-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Incredible location for walking, brilliant view from the spacious balcony, and all the rooms were great so no need to fight over them! Hannah was good at communicating and we had all the information we needed. Just remember to write down the code to get in, as you can't rely on 4G in the Lake District ><

    Daniel2017-06-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a lovely time at Hannah's place - the setting is just stunning, with valley views from every room. The place is kitted out really well, and looks like it's been recently decorated. I'd thoroughly recommend staying here.

Traditional cumbrian cottage built in 1850. The high standard and stunning views make this a perfect place to relax & unwind. For those looking to explore, this is an ideal start for many walks, and just a few minutes from the nearest pub!
Although this is a traditional 1850's Cottage, there is plenty of space for 4 guests and one well behaved pet. There is a large king size bedroom and a twin bedroom, with an upstairs family bathroom. We also have a downstairs WC, an area to hang coats and kick off your boots, as well as utility room for washing & drying. The kitchen / dining room is large enough for entertaining and we have cosy lounge area with a log burning stove. Bedding and hand/bath towels for 4 people are supplied, along with a two tea-towels, a dishcloth, washing up liquid and a couple of dishwasher tablets. Wifi (fibre optic) is supplied free of charge and does not form part of the booking contract, and the connection code is included in the welcome book in the cottage.
The Cottage is situated on a quiet leafy lane on the Banks of Coniston. The views over the Village and across the Lake to Brantwood & Grizedale are stunning, giving us a lovely setting for a morning cuppa on the Terrace, or for a late evening drink watching the sunset.
  • We had a wonderful week staying at The Miners Cottage. The cottage is very well equipped with everything you could need during your stay, everything has been thought of! The location is great, fab views over Coniston Water and a quick 5 mins walk into town. The cottage is brilliantly laid out and great to have a utility room for boots/coats/bikes. Highly recommend staying here and we cant wait to come back! The host Mandy was great too, great details provided ahead of stay and good communications for any questions.

  • This was our first time to Millers Cottage and it's great! The first thing is that it is much larger than you expect when you look at the photos of the front. The lounge and master bedroom are both very (URL HIDDEN) is the kitchen. The quality of fit out is also better than you would expect from the photos...! It's a lovely Cottage and well located for Coniston. The Sun is only 5 minutes walk there...although rather longer coming back up the hill! The shops are 10 minutes away and have everything you'd need. So we'd thoroughly recommend Millers Cottage...we loved our week there..and the walks actually from the front door are real icing on the cake! Great!

  • Fantastic cottage. As described and located in a beautiful and slightly quieter part of the Lake District. Within reasonable distance of all mountain walks (Old Man Coniston looms behind the cottage) and absolutely beautiful. Perfect for a relaxing holiday or an adventurous one alike! Nice pubs/restaurants nearby too.

  • We had a wonderful week at Miner's Cottage, complimented by great weather. The cottage is very comfortable. It is very well equipped, everything worked as intended, and Mandy's information package provided in advance, together with the detailed binder in the cottage, were very comprehensive. We found the cottage and location an ideal base for an extended exploration of the Lake District. Thank you, Mandy.

  • Coniston is a lovely space to stay with access to walks on the doorstep and it is very close to a number of other beautiful areas. The cottage was perfectly located for this and with easy access to the shops and places to eat. The cottage is well equipped to a high standard, comfortable and clean. All the small details are catered for. Highly recommended.

My cosy cottage is close to Coniston Water and only a 10 minute stroll to Coniston Village centre with its selection of pubs, shops and restaurants. You’ll love the Hideaway because it is a cosy retreat for two in the heart of the Lake District where you can have great walks straight from your doorstep and then relax in front of your roaring log burning stove. (initial logs provided & Sky TV) The private garden enjoys stunning views and offers a perfect place for relaxing and al fresco dining.
  • Loved that it was quiet and cozy and well furnished. Enjoyed the walks in each direction as well as the little villages nearby. Mark communicated very well before we arrived and during our stay. Drove past it a couple of times on initial arrival as the building has "Line Cottage" in a slate sign on it and, when we visited, only "the Hideaway" on a piece of paper in the front door window. The photo of parking across the street is not the view you have from the street but was easy enough to spot once you enter the lane. Would definitely stay here again.

    Rebecca2017-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • Comfortable holiday cottage for two people with walks from the front door. Pubs and cafes also a walk away but remember a torch if dark! Did a lovely bike ride (14 miles) around lake using off road and mainly quiet country lanes. (No 'official'bike storage area so left bikes outside chained to a thick wooden gate post by car space). Beautiful area for a peaceful holiday.

    Karen2017-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Good host, great little retreat

    Jude2017-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay in The Hideaway. The cottage was really clean and well equipped. There were plenty of great walks to do for all abilities around Coniston or a short drive away. Would definitely recommend.

    Hayley2016-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Nice little cottage which was located at the head of a lovely little walk into the town centre for supplies and ice creams! As others state, despite being located right on the main road you hardly hear the traffic outside at all.

    Peter2016-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderfully active stay at the Hideaway. The location was perfect for 4 days of sightseeing, walking, boating and biking. It was too easy to eat out every evening as the nearby pubs served the best food and Cumbria beers. We found the Hideaway clean and well equipped, making good use of the cafetiere. The cottage was peaceful with no traffic noise for a great nights sleep, fab for an early start. Overall we loved staying at Mark's cottage and have told anyone who'd listen about it! He's a great host with great communication. Highly recommended.

    Ali2017-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great place for any length of stay in the Lakes, ideal location outside of Coniston. Only a short walk into the village and located in a quiet area, it's perfect for a walking holiday or just a quiet break. The Old Man and Coppermines are all walkable from the front door and there are plenty of other places to see and visit nearby Coniston.

    Luke2017-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay in the Hideaway, small but perfectly formed and with everything we needed. Perfectly located for Coniston and a walk up the Old Man, clean and well equipped - thankyou Mark!! We'll be back (if I can find a space in your bookings diary!!)

With stunning views over Coniston Water this traditional cottage is ideal for a family looking for a relaxing break or for the keen walker with Coniston Old Man right on your doorstep. With a wood burning stove and garden where you can relax and dine al fresco with one of the most scenic views we have ever seen, this cottage will appeal to holidaymakers at any time of year.
Sitting in an elevated position above the village of Coniston, this traditional stone terraced cottage dating back to 1850 has, as the name suggests, stunning views over the lake towards Brantwood and Grizedale Forest. The spacious accommodation is sure to be a popular choice with our holidaymakers at any time of year. Exposed stone walls, flagged floors and a cosy wood burning stove set in an Inglenook fireplace give the living room a traditional feel and the garden with patio area and a ‘view to die for’ is perfect for watching the sun set over the lake or just relaxing on summer days whilst soaking up the view of Coniston Water.
The bustling village of Coniston can be found at the northern end of Coniston Water, famous for its association with Sir Donald Campbell and Bluebird, and is overlooked by the Old Man of Coniston, the seventh highest mountain in England. The village is in a wonderful setting and is a popular destination for hill walking and rock climbing with fine walks nearby on the Furness Fells and Grizedale Forest. In 1997 Coniston was the first village to be given the title "Village of the Year" and has repeatedly been highly placed in the prestigious award. Coniston is very much a Lakeland village and has a range of shops, pubs and places to eat making it an ideal place to stay. Within easy reach are the Lake District villages of Hawkshead, Ambleside, and Grasmere.

    Sam2015-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful weekend escape to Low Cath bank cottage. The location and view are superb. We arrived late at night but Jane had already set up a stack of logs that just needed to be lit. We would recommend the cottage to anyone looking for a cozy hideaway in the Lake District.

    Byron2016-04-25T00:00:00Z
  • We only spend a day at Jane' s place but this cottage has everything you need for a stay at the Lakes. Stunning view also. We will come back.

    Marta2016-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • This was a last minute idea for four men to have three days walking in the Lake District. We wanted self catering and after searching for the ideal location Low Cath Bank came up on our search. The pictures looked great and we booked it. On arrival our expectations were exceeded. The cottage had everything we needed and more. The log burning stove was a bonus after long days of walking in the cold and snow. The cottage was spotless, the beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was very well equipped. The views were magnificent and I can imagine sitting outside on the top patio in the spring and summer would be breathtaking, particularly with a glass of wine in my hand! I can honestly say everything was perfect and I would fully recommend it for what we used it for, a family holiday or a romantic break. The host was very friendly and helpful. Space for two cars to park right outside the property and the steep road to it was not a problem. Ideal for leaving your cat there and go down to the lake (10 minutes walk) or set off on more adventurous walks as we did, without have to drive.

    Steve2016-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was perfect for us (family of 6). The photos and description are accurate and it's a convenient location for visiting all of the Lake District. We had some trouble driving up the incline from the main road. It had rained and our van kept slipping down in the wet pavement. Jane gave alternate directions for the next day, which helped us. Wonderful stay overall and would recommend it.

Beck Lodge is a very comfortable studio style apartment just five minutes walk to both the lake and Coniston village shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs. A perfect base for couples or singles wanting to walk, cycle, enjoy water sports/ boat trips or simply relax in a beautiful part of the Lake District. Beck Lodge is the closest accommodation in Coniston to the lake.
Beck Lodge is a cosy open plan studio style accommodation on the ground level with no internal steps and a real maple floor throughout with open plan kitchen, dining and living area. It also has a fully tiled shower room with underfloor heating and a heated towel rail. There is a cloak and boot space in the entrance hall.
Very quiet village neighbourhood, Coniston remains a 'working village' and employment is not purely tourism with working quarries and other small busineses. There are five traditional pubs all serving food and many cafes & restaurants including 'Bluebird' by the lake just 5 mins walk away.
  • Great location, excellent facilities, clean, comfortable and Ena and Steve are excellent hosts!

  • This is in a perfect location to explore the area with many lovely walks from the door. The annexe was a warm, clean and comfortable place to stay and return to after each day's exertions. We really enjoyed our stay here. Thank you.

  • This was our first time visiting The Lake District and we were very happy that we chose Beck Lodge. The location is nice and central with a lot of quaint villages nearby (such as Hawkshead, Ambleside and Grasmere). Coniston town centre is just a three minute walk away and there's plenty places to (get something to) eat. We would recommend going by or renting a car to see the most of the nearby scenery, just beware the narrow roads. Ena's place looks exactly as it does on the pictures, there are no surprises; it's a cozy lodge with a good kitchen and bathroom that will serve you well during your stay. Added bonus is the collection of dvd's and also note the basket with brochures of attractions and walks that can be visited nearby. We would definitely recommend Beck Lodge! Thank you Ena and Stephen for your hospitality!

    sharon2017-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • Ena was very responsive to our calls prior to our visit and made us very welcome. She and Steve provide a lovely self contained nest with all mod cons within walking distance of the village and also the hills. We especially liked the warmth from underfloor heating and hot drying rails in the bathroom ...excellent after battling gale force winds and rain up at Old man Coniston. Ena and Steve are knowledgeable about the area and gave us great tips on where to eat etc. Will definitely book their lodge again.

Holmthwaite is walking distance to Coniston village centre. You’ll love my place because of the fantastic views, large lounge area, spacious bedrooms, location to surrounding area. My place is good for couples, families (with kids), and big groups. Recently renovated to a high standard in 2016, we pride ourselves on giving a good experience whilst staying at Holmthwaite.
  • A beautiful house in a stunning location, you couldn't ask for a better base from which to enjoy the splendour of the Lake District. A short walk to Lake Coniston where we went kayaking, on the doorstep of "The Old Man" for the more hardy of the walkers amongst us and just around the corner from a couple of lovely pubs, Adam's house catered for all of our needs and would welcome the opportunity of making a return visit in the near future. Thanks for having us Adam. Paul

  • This is a great house, in a great location in the centre of Coniston. All the rooms are similar in size and how nice they are so there wasn't the usual panic of the last couple / person to arrive who gets the awful room :) Rooms were lovely and plenty of bathrooms so no waiting around even in a large group. Lovely touch of biscuits and fresh milk in the fridge on arrival

  • Lovely spacious and well equipped House, great for families. Located in the middle of Coniston which has a good amount of shops and eateries. We climbed Scafel Pike which was just over an hours drive away. Enjoyed the lake and hired boats and boards from the Coniston boating company. Definitely recommend a stay here.

  • Terrific accommodation in marvellous location. No problems except we forgot to bring brown sauce. We all loved our stay.

  • The house is stunning; the photos don't do it justice. We were a group of six; it could easily have accommodated 12. It's in a great location with several pubs and restaurants within a 5 minute walk. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be back!

  • Adams cottage is beautiful. We had a large group with children and had plenty of space. The cottage had enough of everything needed to prepare and serve food, sleep comfortably, and enjoy this beautiful part of the U.K. We would definitely come back.

  • Holmwaithe is a great place. House is massive great for family and/or to share. Rooms are all full with furnishings amenities. Kitchen was very convenient with complete utensils to use. Our group had a great time indoor and outdoor as the house had massive communal spaces. House is situated 30 minutes drive to Fun places like Windermere, Grizedale etc. Also a good walking distance to boat centre and mountain with lovely falls. Adam was very helpful to give comprehensive activity list suitable for our age groups. Will definitely recommend ️

  • The house is clean, the rooms comfortable, the Wi-Fi is fast and it's a short walk to the lake. There is parking for two cars at the back of the house which is handy. The surrounding scenery and being near the Coniston Centre make it an ideal location. I really suggest taking the drive to Ullswater too. Make sure the check in time is arranged appropriately to avoid any confusion.

Puddleduck House is an extremely stylish and spacious three bedroom house situated right in the centre of the stunning village of Coniston, in the Lake District National Park. Surrounded by gorgeous mountain scenery, the property has two large receptions (inc. feature log-burner), well-equipped kitchen, downstairs WC, three spacious bedrooms, two bathrooms, garden and a spacious garage offering parking for two cars. 1 min walk from the village and 8-10 mins from the Lake. Super-fast WiFi.
Puddleduck House is a fantastic house for holidaying in the Lake District. Being situated right in the heart of the village (with no nasty hills to climb to get to and from the pub!) it is close to everything - the lake, the mountains, the walks, the pubs, restaurants and takeaways! The house is very spacious and you have a large, comfortable lounge with wall-mounted TV, feature log-burner and comfy leather sofas. The dining room has a large table with seating for 6, plus a highchair should you need one. The kitchen is very well equipped - with microwave, cooker and hob, fridge/freezer, washing machine (there is a tumble dryer in the garage too), dishwasher and even a slow cooker - ideal for coming back to after a long day's walking and sightseeing! There are plenty of cupboards for storing food and the cupboards/draws are very well-equipped with everything you should need for cooking up a storm! On the ground floor there is also a toilet. On the first floor there are two bedrooms - one has a double bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside tables and also has the convenience of an en-suite shower room and WC. The other, very spacious, bedroom can either be a family room with two twin beds or a super-comfy superking bed. There is a wardrobe, ornamental fireplace and chest of drawers. On the top floor (can be a master suite) there is the master bedroom which enjoys views across to the mountains and has a kingsize bed, double built-in wardrobes, dressing table and chest of drawers. All of the bedrooms have large mirrors and electrical sockets. The master bathroom, also on the top floor, has fantastic views of Coniston Old Man and the pretty houses dotted around the base of the fells. There is a very luxurious roll-top bath and a separate shower cubicle, WC, wash hand basin plus storage for bathroom effects. Outside the kitchen door is a small back yard with bistro set and gate to private path, across which is the garage. The garage is very spacious and long, with parking for two cars. The garage houses the tumble dryer. To the rear of the garage there is a pretty little garden with patio and grass - and a picnic bench from where you can gaze up at the mountains with a cup of tea or something stronger! A BBQ is provided - ideal for warmer months! We strive really hard to make sure your holiday in Puddleduck House is memorable and relaxing ... giving you the chance to totally unwind from the stresses and strains of daily life :)
Coniston is situated in the heart of the English Lake District National Park. Although we are of course biased, we feel Coniston offers the most to holidaymakers. It is surrounded by stunning mountains - with Coniston 'Old Man' being a real pull for hikers and climbers. But there are smaller mountains and fell slopes to climb too - even a hike to a mountain tarn, 'Levers Water' should you feel like an adventurous walk without so much height. Local walks lead to the ever-popular beauty spot, 'Tarn Hows' and a particular favourite walk of ours is from Coniston to Torver, along the shoreline of Coniston Water. Coniston can be quieter than Windermere and Ambleside which we love - you can have parts of the lake to yourself at times! Yet it's popular enough to warrant 5 pubs, two restaurants and three takeaways, as well as convenience stores, butchers, gift shops, cafes and a petrol station. A gentle stroll from the house down to the lake takes you to the wonderful Bluebird Cafe, which is a glass-fronted cafe situated right on the lake, with stunning views.

The cottage is a lovely place for walking, going to pubs - sitting on the window seat reading or looking out over Lake Coniston in all its moods.
  • The description was accurate and the host provided us with plenty of information. The cottage was comfortable and clean with a beautiful view over the lake.

  • The house is good for family holiday, the only few down thing was the hot water ran out quite a few times during the shower, also the toilet paper and dish washing liquid have almost nothing left when we arrived, otherwise good for relaxing.

  • The cottage is lovely and very charming with fantastic views of lake Coniston; we had a nice and relaxing short break. The instructions were very clear and the place was warm and spotless when we arrived, there was even a tea tray waiting for us which was a nice touch. We ate at the Ship Inn every night which has good beer, good food and the owners are very friendly. We highly recommend this cottage and would definitely go back one day.

  • Great location and picturesque accommodation. Lots of facilities and information provided. A warm welcome on arrival.

    Geoffrey2017-04-29T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was a perfect place for a quiet getaway in the Lakes. The cottage itself is quaint and has a perfect lawn and sitting area to enjoy the sound of the creek nearby and the beautiful trees that line the road. The trail into town is right in front, and you can make it into Coniston in about 10 minutes. The bedrooms were comfortable and perfect for our group of 4. We didn't get a chance to meet Rosalind, but she gave us great instructions on how to get in and we had no problems at all during our stay. This is such a beautiful area for those who like the rural charm of the Lakes, and we feel this was an ideal place for us to enjoy the beauty of the area

  • A fantastic little cottage! Very cosy inside with everything you could want, and just a short walk to Coniston or up onto the fells. The photos don't really do the place justice, it's even more homely inside than it seems. Jon was very helpful before we arrived answering our questions. All in all a great place to stay

    Jack2015-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely, very comfortable cottage with good amenities, out host was very helpful with local information and we had a welcome tea tray when we arrived. The cottage is situated just outside the lovely village of Coniston which we visited daily for breakfast, shopping, dinner and the loveliest walks. It's the most beautiful place, we went on some wonderful days out and the cottage is in a great place to be able to explore the rest of the Lakes.

    Kerry-Anne2015-06-14T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely few days spent in the idyllic "Shelt Gill". The picture don't do this place justice. Its very homely, and the electric heating keeps you warm at all times. The shower is powerful and gets nice and warm! Views of Coniston are amazing. Easy distance (10-15min in car) to Ambleside, Windermere and surrounding areas. We climbed Old Man of Coniston & Harrison Stickle (Great Langdale). Both great walks with the dogs. Can't wait to come back already :)

  • My sister and I really enjoyed our stay at the pod at Howe Farm. The location was ideal; an easy walk to several pubs and close to a variety of excellent walks. The pod was furnished beautifully and was really different from the usual hotel or b&b rooms. We would thoroughly recommend the pod to anyone.

The cottage is perched on the hillside with majestic views over Coniston water, the village and down the valley towards Hellvelyn. Being just a couple of minutes walk from the centre of the village it is both peaceful and convenient. It is an ideal base for walkers; the end of the lane joins the route up to the Old Man of Coniston, and there are a wide variety of walks for all levels from the door. The Sun Inn, with open fire, is at the end of the lane. Please note that the lane is steep.
The traditional slate cottage is lovingly furnished and centrally-heated. It was once the signalman's cottage of the old Victrian railway. Having been completely renovated a few years ago, it sleeps six/eight and is ideal for one or two families. On the ground floor there is a cosy lounge (TV, DVD, Sky box, open fire), beautiful dining room with large farmhouse table and wood burning stove, well appointed kitchen (electric double oven, gas hob, dishwasher and washing machine, large new fridge freezer), toilet and wet-room shower within the enclosed yard. On the first floor there is a master bedroom with king size bed, a family bathroom with w/c, bath and over-bath shower, and a further bedroom with full-sized adult bunk beds. The second floor has recently been re-converted to include a double bedded room with the same amazing view, a beamed twin room, and a toilet with wash basin. The cottage has an abundance of hot water - lovely after a day out in the lakes! Outside there is a large garden to the side of the house with the same amazing views. There is a pic-nic table and fire pit there. In addition there are two parking spaces. Please be aware though that the cottage is on a narrow lane, accessed via a steep hill. Coniston village hosts a variety of pubs, a local Co-op, Spar and other local shops. The photos don't really do the cottage justice - we'll be getting some better ones taken soon! Its a wonderful cottage, a quiet location and a great place from which to explore the lakes.

Peasecroft is a beautiful little love nest for two, located on the side of the mountain less than a mile from the village of Coniston in the English Lake District. A very peaceful and private convened wooden coach house, tucked away behind a big gate and down a long drive. It has been fully renovated to a very high standard and sits in 7 acres of glorious woodland, field and orchard, with views of Coniston Water and the surrounding mountains. Fantastic walks to The Old Man of Coniston start from the gate, and the village is just a 5 minute walk with a selection of great pubs, making this perfect location where you don't always have to use the car. Its blissfully cosy with home from home comforts such as Hypnos mattress, The White Company lines, Sophie Conran cookery, Bose sound, Nespresso coffee machine and much more to make your stay a perfect one. It also has green credentials with solar power and natural materials used throughout. For a pure escape, peasecroft doesn't have a TV but has a great selection of books to snuggle on the daybeds that are covered in sheepskins and merino wool cushions and throws or watch the sun go down while warming your toes in front of the fire.(We have wifi as we appreciate that we all need to check emails while away) Peasecroft is perfect for a special romantic getaways or those simply wanting a very peaceful holiday. In the heart of the English Lake District lies the historical copper mining village of Coniston, perfectly positioned alongside the picturesque Coniston Water and underneath the majestic Coniston Fells of which Coniston Old Man, 2635ft, is the most famous. Today the village is welcoming, warm and friendly. The two Victorian streets still house traditional shops such as the village butcher, grocer, newsagent, dairy, five pubs, several cafes and highly acclaimed restaurant (Steam Bistro), so there’s enough to keep you occupied during your time here. Together with the surrounding picturesque hamlets, Coniston is an excellent centre for outdoor enthusiasts, with some superb climbing, walking, water sports, fishing and cycling to be had. For those who like to keep their feet firmly on the ground there’s The Ruskin Museum, which depicts the fascinating history of the area including the famous water speed record attempt of Donald Campbell and on the eastern shores of the lake lies Brantwood the Victorian home of philosopher John Ruskin, where regular events and art courses are held. Should you just wish to relax during your time here then the tremendous landscape of cascading waterfalls, streams, lakes and mountains should help you switch off from modern life. Delights such as Tarn Hows and Grizedale Forest are nearby and prove to be ever popular with visitors of all ages. The lake remains a central focus of the village and a whole host of water sports can be enjoyed by day trippers. To this day passengers are still enjoying The National Trust’s Victorian steam yacht Gondola, which won Cumbria Tourism’s 2016 visitor attraction of the year award. The lake also holds historical significance, 50 years ago, Donald Campbell chose Coniston Water for his World Water Speed Record achievements in his jet boat Bluebird, reaching over 300mph. In honour of his amazing achievements a Speed Records Week is held every November. Coniston enjoys the best of both worlds …..

Off the beaten track, our farm has lake frontage, stunning views and oodles of character. Relax and unwind in comfortable surroundings, we provide breakfast/lunch & dinner and plenty of activities from kayaking and mountain biking.
The Loft is one of the six self catering cottages on the farm. It has one bedroom with zip and link beds to make it either an enormous double bed or two twins. Additionally the lounge has a sofa bed that sleeps an additional 2 people should you wish to share. The minimum stay is three nights and changeover days are Friday and Monday. Idyllic for both couples searching for a romantic getaway and families looking for a one stop shop - sleep, eat and play! Our farm (Bank Ground) known as Holly Howe in Arthur Ransome's famous children's book Swallows and Amazons, is the perfect location for a break - B&B and self catering cottages (sleeping up to 60).
The east side on Coniston Water is unique in it's beauty and views. We are lucky to be off the beaten track so if what you are looking for is the real Lake District then look no further.
  • We have just returned from a fabulous few days at Ground Bank Farm the loft was a fabulous cottage that kept us very warm and dry, especially as the weather was a bit wet. It was a great base for walking and was perfect for our needs. The holiday was made all the more special as I became engaged on New Years eve so will always have amazing memories.

  • Thank you so much for a fantastic stay. It was the perfect escape from London. You have a beautiful property!

  • We had a lovely week at Ground Bank Farm, staying in the Loft, and would definitely stay again! The farm was remote, away from the hustle and bustle of the busier areas of the lakes, but very easy to find! Jonathan and the other staff were really friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome and at ease. The loft was lovely! Very spacious, clean and cosy! We loved firing up the wood burner in the evening too. The kitchen was fully equipped and easy to use. We decided to have breakfast in the farm house one morning and it was lovely! Full continental selection along with a full English. A lovely start to a busy day! Ground bank also offer delicious evening meals that you can either eat in the main farm house or have freshly delivered to your room. We opted to have the food brought to our room and it was fab! The lamb was incredible! The farm is a nice 20-25 stroll into the village of Coniston and a 20min drive to Grizedale forest, both of which I'd recommend :)

  • Our stay at The Loft was one of the greatest weeks away I have ever had. There was the perfect balance between activity and relaxation. Bank Ground Farm offered absolutely everything you could possibly need. The food was spectacular, the accommodation was very clean and well kept and there were so many activities to do and wonderful natural places to explore. The staff at Bank Ground were extremely friendly and helpful without being intrusive. I will be recommending Bank Ground Farm to everyone and anyone planning a trip to the UK. I cannot wait to return.

  • Lovely accommodation, great location and good food!

    Ben2014-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a gem of a place for those who need to unwind, relax, soak in the majesty of the Cumbrian countryside and enjoy peace and quiet. The farm is not far from nearby Coniston and also not too far from the Lake District's largest lake and town - Windermere - but it's remote enough not to be disturbed by the people, noise and traffic this could bring during peak season. The view from the farm over Coniston Water is truly spectacular. You can access a lot of different activities very easily (biking, hiking, boating etc) and so it's a good place to base yourself. The actual accommodation itself is excellent. We stayed in the 2-bed Loft, which is perfect for a couple. The dwelling has been finished to a high standard and provides all you need to make your own food and generally relax in the evenings (or on a lazy morning). You can relax in the large open plan kitchen/living area located on the upper floor. The bedroom and bathroom are in adjoining rooms downstairs. Parking is available just outside the front door so it's easy to unpack and get your stuff in. As we made full use of the kitchen during our stay we didn't take advantage of the dining room in the main lodge but the menu looked very appealing. I had a good chat with Jonathon during my stay - he was very friendly and helpful. He is a local and knows the area well. All in all, we had a wonderful time and I would highly recommend this place.

    Akhil2016-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Jonathon made us feel really at home and welcome from the second we arrived. Swallows & Amazons at Bank Ground Farm is possibly the nicest place that we have ever stayed. 'The Loft' was even better than we imagined, so spacious! The views over the lake are breathtaking. Jonathon called us a day or two before our booking to discuss our arrival, we had asked to book a meal in the restaurant the night we were due to arrive but he explained it was closed and offered to arrange a meal to be left in the loft ready for our arrival. Quite possibly one of the best meals I've ever had (chocolate brownie was especially delicious!!). We had grand plans to cook all our favourite foods during our stay, but after the first night we booked meals from the chef for the whole week! Coniston is lovely and there are so many wonderful walks in the local area, we did a lot of walking during our stay which always ended (and sometimes began) with a relaxing drink in one of the local pubs or hotels. Our favourite was called The Waterhead Hotel (I think) which has huge gardens which lead to a lovely jetty over the lake. Highly recommended! During our stay there was a meteor shower; we were lucky enough to have a clear night sky, we took a short walk away from any light sources and watched the shooting stars. We would definitely return (we didn't want to leave!) and will be recommending Swallows & Amazons to friends and family. My only regret is that I didn't get a chance to stroke the alpacas!

  • An amazingly special stay in an amazingly beautiful part of the UK. Away from all of bustle of other parts of the Lake District but with so much to do for all ages. The staff could not be sweeter and the views divine. The cottages are wonderful too. I could live in one and be totally happy!! And the food is wonderful! I will be back!

Our cottage is surrounded by great views and family friendly activities. Walking and biking from the door, wildlife, streams, ponds, trees and rocks to climb! Guests love its location. It's great for people of all ages, those who want an active holiday and those who just want to relax in a peaceful setting. You'll not find a more peaceful spot right in the heart of the Lake District with tourist attractions with easy reach.
Our cottage is a traditional Lakeland quarryman's cottage, one in a row of 8. It has original slate quarry stones. Kitchen/dining room and living room on the ground floor. King bedroom, bathroom and shower room on the first floor. Double and single bedrooms on the second floor. There's parking for two cars and a lockable shed. The living room has a log burner for those cooler evenings. We have a vast range of local interest, walking books and maps for you to use during your stay. If you wish to remain connected to the outside world the wifi and smart tv is on hand!
The road to the cottage ends with a small car park at a disused quarry so passing traffic is limited. We are surrounded by the most beautiful countryside. Walks and bike rides for all abilities are right outside the door. We have an amazing number of birds visiting the garden (including woodpeckers) the occasional red squirrel and deer.
  • Amazing cottage in an even better location. Will definitely be returning in the future.

  • From the moment we stepped into Acorn Cottage we felt at home. It was warm, cosy and extremely clean. The surrounding area is like something out of a story book! The cottage was excellent for our family of five and we all highly recommend it. Christine's instructions and communication were excellent. We will certainly return if we are back in the UK again.

  • Wonderful property in beautiful Lake District wilderness. Host has made a huge effort to ensure house is equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Highly recommend if you’re visiting the area.

  • The cottage was warm and cosy with a lovely log burner. It was very convenient to be able to park and unpack right by the front door. The shortbread biscuits were welcome after a long journey. The kitchen was clean and well equipped and the bathrooms were spacious and stylish. In particular the beds were extremely comfortable and despite the high winds the first night, we slept very soundly. Having a door and a stair gate to confine wet dogs to the kitchen was a bonus. The cottage is in a great spot for walking and yet good pubs for meals were only a short drive away. Thank you, Christine, for a very comfortable stay!

  • Great cottage in a great location. Very cosy and had everything we needed. Had a brilliant walk to The Three Shires Inn and back with the use of head torches and the Harvest moon, highly recommended although a bit boggy in places!

  • Christine's Acorn Cottage is the perfect getaway. We had several family concerns back in the USA and were grateful for the excellent wifi that kept us connected to a family crisis and to Hurricane Irma which was bearing down on our Florida home. We were mostly impressed with the kitchen. As we like home-cooked meals, we took advantage of Christine's well-equipped kitchen. Christine's frying pans and knives were exceptional - a rare treat. We cooked some excellent meals, topped off with Christine's biscuits. Thank you for a pleasant three-day holiday at Acorn Cottage.

  • Christine’s house was so perfect for our stay, it has everything you’d need and a bit more. There’s games and puzzles for quiet nights by the fire. The location is great, loads of walks and rides right from the door. I would definitely recommend to friends, thank you!

A cosy one bedroom cottage with log stove (& central heating), fitted with all modern conveniences, 200 yds from the road along a private driveway providing an ideal base to relax, go walking or just visit the Lake District and its scenery.
A characterful property, set in a quiet location, yet easily accessible for all amenities with pubs and shop only half a mile away. Plenty of space for a couple (& room for the dogs in front of the fire) -we provide an initial supply of logs, firelighters and matches. Flat screen TV, DVD and surround sound system with a selection of DVD's and books provided in the cottage. Full kitchen facilities with plenty of crockery and cutlery to ensure the dishwasher is easily filled. Dishwasher powder, washing up liquid etc are provided.
Peaceful, quiet with excellent walking from the door, yet only half a mile from pubs, and village shop.
  • Great cottage for couples. Plenty of space, very well equipped. We even used the log burning stove in August, it made the lounge very cosy in the evening. 2 good pubs nearby. Lots of hiking options - both big hills and easy circuits to and from the lake.

  • Great retreat near Torver by Coniston. Easy walk to pub and right on the rout to the mountain. Very well equipped kitchen and cosy living room with fireplace.

  • The cottage was in a great location with wonderful views. Close to both Coniston Water and Coniston there is plenty to do, and a path to Walna Scar and the fell's of The Old Man is only up the road, which allows you easily start off a days walking from the cottage. We would highly recommend a visit to Davids's cottage.

  • It was a wonderful experience at David's cottage. It was very well equipped and a clean place. I would certainly recommend it.

  • Just had a midweek break , staying in Davids cottage with my two dogs . It was perfect ... cozy front room with a wood burning stove , good sized kitchen with everything I needed to self cater, plenty of hot water for relaxing baths and a comfortable double bed ! It's tucked away from the main road but the local pubs are within walking distance ( You can have all your meals locally if you want ) , coniston 3 miles away , and the scenery is amazing . I walked everywhere for 2 days , plenty to cover and there is a guide book of torver walks available at the local deli! We had an unexpected power cut on the first night ( result of storm Ophelia) and David was on the phone immediately to offer assistance if needed ( I was happy just to have a much needed early night ) . He and his wife live just behind the cottage so they are easily accessible, for me he was the perfect mix of attentive but not intrusive . Highly recommended ! It's a walkers paradise , but if you don't like walking it's easy to drive to local towns and the other lakes . Great host , great place ❤️

  • Lovely place. Middle of all the important things. Well stocked with cooking appliances.

    Max2017-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay in the beautiful Lake District at David's lovely cottage. The cottage is absolutely adorable, and the pictures just don't do it justice because it is much nicer in person! The place was so cozy and comfy, and the shower was nice and hot with good water pressure after a long day of hiking. The location is perfect near Coniston Lake and a lot of the Lake Districts highlights as well as the Old Man Coniston hikes. There is a lovely shared garden area and although it is shared it feels very private. Do be aware that The cottage is truly self catering and although the kitchen is well stocked in terms of crockery, you will need to bring oil, napkins, and paper towels. Although an initial supply of toilet paper and firewood is supplied, you will need to bring your own for a longer stay so keep that in mind. It was a bit hard to get connected to wifi as there was no information on the password left in the cottage, but David was reachable and approachable and got us the info we needed we needed. We will definitely recommend this place to all our friends headed to the Lake District!

    Clara2016-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely can not rate this place highly enough. In a great location for exploring The Lakes. Modern and newly kitted out in all the places that we needed it, but beautiful and rustic at the same time. The bed was comfy, the shower was powerful and warm (exactly what you need after a day's walking). For the price I could not have expected anymore.

  • I loved my stay at Pepper Cottage. The accommodation was of excellent quality. I felt very much at home and the prior communication from Will and Giles was great! I will definitely be revisiting next year :) I also enjoyed my stay so much, I left chocolate in the fridge for both Will and Giles.

  • Beautiful and very comfortable cottage! The instructions to access the place were clear and the space is very well decorated. This was our home away from home for three nights, and I wish we could have stayed for longer. The location is close to Ambleside (about 15 minutes by car) where there are three small supermarkets and a whole bunch of shops and restaurants, as well as other little towns like Hawkshead and Coniston which are well worth a visit. A milkman also stops by each morning with fresh milk and other groceries such as eggs, bacon and yogurt (just leave a note on the windowsill outside the kitchen sink). Highly recommended.

  • What can I say - Pepper Cottage was one of the most wonderful stays in the Lake District we have ever had. Beautiful cottage, wonderfully secluded for a quiet holiday, but still accessible to surrounding villages. The cottage was a dream - clean, modern and beautiful, yet in a lovely historic and proper English countryside location. Great amenities, and Will amen Giles were great communicating with us on how to locate and answer questions we had. As travelers who were walking and using public transport, this was a wonderful place to base our stay in the Lake District, and Will and Giles made it very easy to find the cottage on foot. Absolutely loved our stay! We will be back!

  • The cottage was absolutely wonderful, beautiful modern interior with lovely bathrooms and a nice log burning fire for when the weather isn't quite what you hoped. The view was stunning so even on days of heavy rain we were quite happy to stay inside and look at the view. We were thrilled with this place and will definitely be hoping to return! Would 100% recommend.

  • Fantastic cottage, wonderful views from living room and bedroom. Outstanding bathrooms and very well equipped kitchen. Lovely garden with various seating areas to enjoy the view. There were 6 of us, and a baby and dog. (2 on a bed settee) and it was still quite spacious. Very good location, several local walks, and lovely walk from the door. We would love to stay again.

  • Thank you Will and Giles for such a wonderful stay in your gorgeous home. We spent a very happy week exploring the Lake District with our two children and doggie, and loved to come home after each day's activities to such a comfortable, welcoming and well equipped cottage. Staying somewhere so lovely and in such a fab central location made for a perfect family holiday. We can't thank you enough for making our holiday very special and fully intend on returning next time we go to the Lake District!

The Granary is close to Hawkshead, Ambleside, Coniston, spectacular scenery & walks, Beatrix Potter's house and The Drunken Duck! You’ll love The Granary because of it's access to fantastic areas within the National Park, and warm and cosy to come back to in any weather! Extensively outfitted kitchen to cook up a storm also! Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids), and furry friends (small dogs).
The Granary used to be a milking parlour with a grain store above, attached to a barn and behind Waterson Ground farmhouse. The buildings are built of traditional Lakeland slate and are more than a hundred years old but were sympathetically converted in 2006. The Granary is "upside down", with the kitchen and living room upstairs and bedrooms and bathroom downstairs. Upstairs has solid oak floors and slate countertops to the very well equipped kitchen.
The Granary is in a very quiet location, but within a short walk of Outgate which boasts an excellent pub - The Outgate Inn! There are also several pubs and a Co-op and post office in Hawkshead which is a mile away. Ambleside is only ten minutes by car if you need more hiking gear or have forgotten something!
  • Awesome find. Exactly as described. We'll be back.

  • We had a fantastic week at the Granary. We were extremely lucky to have sunshine every day and the Lake District is such a wonderful region. The cottage was perfect, very tastefully decorated as well as thoughtfully and generously equipped, it was very cosy and comfortable. It is also very well located with easy access to Coniston, Ambleside, Grizedale trail centre, and a bit further afield, Grasmere, Keswick and Whinlatter. There are some beautiful walks from the house, for example to Wray Castle or Tarn Hows. Last but not least, the lively Outgate Inn is a 10-minute walk away and serves very nice food in a convivial and familial atmosphere. The Granary is a perfect base to explore the Lakes! Communication was Tim was very easy and although we didn't meet, he was an attentive host. Thanks for a great holiday!

Located between Hawkshead and Ambleside, we are in a prime position for those wanting a relaxing break or an adventurous outdoor escape. Guests can enjoy peaceful views of the English Lake District from all bedrooms.
Stay in our Grade II listed Georgian house with plenty of charm, character and history. Once part of the Beatrix Potter Estate, we rented the house from the National Trust in 2006 and have spent years renovating every room to a high standard to become our family home. It is just a 2-minute drive from the idyllic village of Hawkshead and a 10-minute drive from Ambleside.
There are several places to eat within a short distance from Belmount Hall... The Outgate Pub is just a 5 minute walk down the road and there are plenty more pubs and restaurants in Hawkshead and Ambleside.
  • We had a great time there and the host Chris is very nice and helpful. Both the house and the view are stunning. Definitely visit there again. Highly recommend!

  • What a stunning house in a glorious setting - we cannot recommend Belmont House highly enough. My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in the Braithwaite Room, a fabulous room with far reaching southerly views. The room is well appointed with a luxurious feel and has a beautifully finished en suite shower room. Chris was a great host, welcoming and full of information about the local area. We were so well looked after - from the option to order one Gilly's (delicious!) cakes as an extra birthday treat to the excellent cooked breakfast on both mornings - we had an unforgettable stay. Thank you very much Chris and Gilly!

    Sarah2017-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Chris' house, just outside Outgate, is an absolutely stunning country manor, and my partner and I greatly enjoyed our stay here. The house itself is full of character, with beautiful views across the Lakes. We spent our evenings in the very comfortable guest lounge reading books, while the scrambled eggs for breakfast were probably the best I've ever had! We walked down to Hawkshead for dinner (we picked the Queen's Head and enjoyed it). There are three friendly dogs, but they don't come into the guest areas of the house. Chris met us with tea as we arrived and showed us around, being incredibly helpful including helping us plan our days there (we hadn't given it much thought in advance) and sharing interesting stories and facts about the area. If there was anything we needed he was happy to help - all in all a great host. The towns around Windermere are fairly easy to get to, so in addition to hiking and seeing National Trust properties there is plenty to do. This review doesn't really do the house justice so i'll put it this way - it was a great weekend and I'd definitely go back.

Next to pretty Torver beck and with lake frontage to the quiet western shore of Coniston Water, this is the perfect place for a 'get-away-from-it-all' break. Originally part of an old mill building the Cottage has modern facilities but retains lots of character. Surrounded by fantastic scenery on all sides you don't need to go far to enjoy the beauty of the Lakes. Relax in the garden, or stroll down to the lake. Walk up onto the Common for amazing views, or explore the lake and island by canoe.
This 300 year-old traditional stone watermill has been cleverly converted into three individual and attractive cottage-style apartments. In an idyllic riverside setting beside tumbling Torver Beck, each of the three apartments (Dipper, Wren and Robin) are full of character and retain many original features such as exposed stone walls and beams, whilst ensuring comfort and warmth after the day's activities. The grassy lane beside the beck leads to a large wooded field (sheep-free - a haven for dogs) and on to the secluded lake-shore, where you can sit in peace and enjoy the views, or jump into a canoe to explore the lake and the island. Formed from the original wheelhouse, you enter at first floor level into a beamed entrance hall off which lie the 2 bedrooms and bathroom (with powerful pumped shower over bath). Quaint winding stairs lead down to a cosy living area where a low window-seat looks straight out onto pretty waterfalls.
Sunny Bank is situated on the quiet western shore of Coniston Water. Surrounded by fantastic scenery on all sides you don't need to go far to enjoy the beauty of the Lakes. Wonderful walks from the doorstep take you along the lake-shore or up onto Torver Common, with its pretty tarns and breathtaking lake and mountain views. Hire our canoe (or bring your own boat) and have fun exploring the lake including Swallows & Amazons 'Wild Cat' island. Torver, a mile away, has two pubs, both serving excellent food. Coniston, 4 miles north, is a small but busy typical Lakeland village, with several shops and a variety of pubs and places to eat. Ulverston (6 miles south) has a great supermarket (Booths), cobbled streets and many interesting shops.
  • Little Dipper was well equipped with everything that we needed for our short break and was very comfortable. We chose the cottage because it is away from the main tourist centres and it's relative seclusion provided for a relaxing, quiet stay. Torver, Coniston, Hawkshead and Ambleside are all within 5 - 40 minutes by car, where you can get most supplies and an abundance of places to eat. The cottage has it's own short private beach on Coniston Water, shared with the other cottages, and is about a 5 minute walk over private land. I wish I had taken the dog because she would have loved to play in the water. There is a stream that runs alongside the property and I enjoyed sitting on the lounge window seat, reading a book, watching the wildlife and listening to the water. Highly recommended.

  • This is a lovely cottage in a fantastic location. It’s not particularly luxurious but warm, cozy and comfortable- just what you need as a home from Home in the Lake District. It’s main attraction is the location - lakeside access and it’s practically on the Cumbria Way, so walking from the cottage is fantastic. Daphne was very welcoming with great communication- we would love to return for a longer stay soon. Thank you.

  • "Dipper" was the perfect launch pad for our activities in the Lake District! The stream next to the cottage was relaxing and farm landscape was picturesque--the perfect escape from the city. In nearby Torver, we greatly enjoyed the pubs and access to the walking paths. Highly recommended!

The Lake District is a World Heritage Site, and High Park is located in the most beautiful part of the area. This farmhouse, once owned by Beatrix Potter, is situated on the Cumbria Way. The views are fantastic and at night, the silence is total. We offer a King size double bed, a private bathroom and a breakfast cooked to your specific requirements.
  • Wendy and her husband Tony are incredibly friendly and welcoming, and we wanted for nothing during our stay with them. They were extremely accommodating, breakfast was plentiful and delicious and the bedroom very comfortable (plus a good shower; perfect after a long day's walking!). They are numerous lovely pubs nearby for an evening's drinking and eating, and Ambleside isn't far if you want a slightly more upmarket meal or a cinema trip. And it goes without saying that the scenery is magnificent. I couldn't recommend Wendy and Tony's place more for a restorative trip to the Lakes - very secluded and peaceful location, lovely house and wonderful hosts.

  • This spot, and these amazing people have to be the top choice if your going to the Lake District, it's well situated withing the mountains with incredible views and bang in the middle of the Lake District just 15mins off ambleside and even when driving past all the hotels, hostels, b&b's and camps I couldn't help but think im staying at the best place. Wendy and Tony are the hosts and do a fine job of it too, very welcoming, honest, kind and helpful and so on it's own just staying there is a great experience as your well looked after with a full breakfast and a comfortable room&bed but then on top of exploring the Lake district it just tops it all off, an extravaganza you wouldn't want to miss even if it's just for the weekend, but a week is highly advised. I wouldn't think twice about looking anywhere else now I know this little cottage exists.

  • An idyllic escape in a stunning location. Wendy is a very friendly host who gave us lots of useful advice and cooked a very generous breakfast. You are right on the Cumbrian Way and can walk to Great Langdale. Little Langdale very pretty too. Ambleside by far the nicest town in the Lakes. Highly recommended.

  • Wendy and Tony are both very kind and generous hosts who really made us feel welcomed in their home. Their house is very old (built in 1600) and very interesting, located in a beautiful valley with great views. It is quaint but completely up to date. The bed was really comfortable and the private bathroom was well supplied and had a good shower. Wendy cooks a delicious breakfast each morning. The house is secluded but that means lots of peace and quiet and great views around the valley. Shops and restaurants are close by car. We would recommend this place to anyone who is traveling by car. Ian & Sally

  • Wendy and Tony made me so welcome in their beautiful home and my stay was everything, and more, that I hoped for. The location was perfect for me, a real get away from it all setting with magnificent panoramic views. If tranquillity is what you are looking for, with direct access to stunning walks then I cant recommend Wendy's place enough. As if all this wasn't enough to offer, Wendy makes a fabulous (and huge) breakfast. I had a wonderful introduction to the Langdales and I fell in love with the place - so looking forward to my next visit. Thank you so much, Wendy and Tony.

  • Lovely stay. Tony and Wendy gave really good advice about hikes and the best spots to explore. The house is beautifully located.

  • Was warmly welcomed by Wendy and Tony. They were very kind and helpful, telling us good places to eat. We were offered tea and delicious cake upon arrival. Our room was a nice size and very comfortable. Breakfast was the best with fruit and yogurt and various cereals offered, and a hot plate with eggs sausages bacon mushrooms tomatoes. Everything was always hot and delicious. High Park is an extremely quiet and tranquil location situated in a beautiful valley. Many walking trails lead in various directions. The feeling of peace pervades this BandB. Wendy was such a sweet thoughtful hostess and helpful in so many ways. Great experience.

  • Our stay with Wendy and her husband, Tony, was relaxing, comfortable and charming. Their home is in an exquisitely beautiful setting. Wendy provides a wonderful "full English" breakfast. Tony gave us very thoughtful and generous help when we had a transportation problem. And they gave us very useful information about what to do and see in the Lake District. We really felt welcomed.

  • My family had an amazing stay in Paul's home, a large and cosy bedroom, his lovely Laula and a nice view around his house. Paul was very helpful to recommend the visiting spots for us around the lake district. We were also delighted to be invited to Paul's BBQ dinner, lovely :-). We love the Lake area and the place we stayed in Paul's home.

  • Paul was an excellent host. We arrived especially late due to getting lost. I would suggest you have daylight to navigate roads as they can be narrow. Paul had dinner ready for us since we arrived so late and didn't have time to stop. We were a party of three women so we stayed in two bedrooms and shared a bath. Beds were very comfortable. And the views from the rooms were amazing. Breakfast was very good too. It is a beautiful historic home in a lovely setting.

  • Very small quibble about the size of breakfast. All delicious, but too much for some perhaps. Very comfortable, peaceful old house with interesting history. Some lovely artworks and old furniture. And of course the delightful Lola!

  • A wonderfully welcoming host in a beautiful setting. Remotely situated with wonderful secluded views, but still within easy walking distance of Hawkshead. Can't recommend highly enough, a perfect country retreat with a host more than willing to do all he can to help you make the most of it.

  • Paul's house was brilliant ! Perfect location, lovely scenery, beautiful house. Paul was very helpful with his suggestions for walks as well as good places to eat in and around the area. Paul even made us a special vegetarian breakfast which was delicious. Lola (the dog) was the fluffiest dog we have ever seen, and was always happy to greet us! We had a really lovely time, would definitely recommend. Thanks, Paul. Lois and Tom

  • I had a lovely stay at Greenend House. I can't recommend this place highly enough and Paul was the perfect host, we were sorry not to be staying for longer and will definitely book again. This is a really quiet unspoilt area of the lakes, with a gorgeous woodland walk seconds from the house - we were the only people in there! A beautiful location. The house itself is a really grand but welcoming national trust house. With views from the bedroom onto fields and Esthwaite water. The room had everything we needed, the bed was really comfy! Great nights sleep and woke to a wonderful breakfast cooked by Paul of locally sourced produce to set us up for our days walking. Thanks Paul and thanks for pointing us in the direction of the Drunken Duck, we had a great lunch there too. See you again soon for a longer stay next time..

  • Wonderfully relaxing and welcoming place to stay. Fantastic location with amazing views and a 5 minute walk to Hawkshead with 4 pubs. The breakfast was simply brilliant and Paul went out of his way to accommodate us. The room was spacious with the most comfortable bed! Paul is a great host who was friendly and informative especially advising on the best places to visit and eat at. We took our bikes and Paul provided us with access to a lockable garage to store them. The star of the show is Lola who is definitely in charge! We are looking forward to returning next year for another great few days in the Lakes.

Peacock Cottage sits just outside Ambleside in the small village hamlet of Outgate and can be well recognised from the beautifully well looked after topiary in the garden reflecting the cottage name. Set just back from the road it is a stones throw from The Outgate Inn, a pet friendly pub serving home cooked food and real ales. The cottage is a spacious 3 bedroom property boasting a large dining kitchen for family nights in and a downstairs shower and sauna to enjoy on the cold nights.
