  • Terry was a great host and was very helpful at all times. The house was a perfect size to accommadate a group of 12 and a baby! Terry provided lots of extra touches&help with information of the local area. Thanks Terry!

  • Gorgeous cottage in a lovely little village! Terri sent tonnes of great info on local walks, pubs and restaurants which was really helpful - and baked some fresh rolls and left cold beers in the fridge which was a lovely touch. Would thoroughly recommend Forge Cottage and Chinley to anyone!

    Greg2016-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • We have just returned from a family get-together at Forge Cottage and couldn't recommend it more highly! Communication with Terri was the right amount throughout and she gave us plenty of information and assistance beforehand and whilst in the cottage. The cottage itself is a lovely space and I would recommend that you try and bag the en-suite room! On arrival expect snacks and drinks to help you settle in which was very welcome after the drive to get there. Chinley itself is really well located for travelling around the Peak district and as a bonus isn't too busy with other tourists! Overall we all really enjoyed ourselves both in the property and in the area - Thanks Terri.

  • Lovely cottage, great for a big family weekend away. Great places to eat locally and a great starting point for lovely walks. Terry was really welcoming and helpful and even provided extra kitchen supplies for a Sunday roast.

    Suzy2017-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely house, great location. Terri was a fabulous host and went out of her way to welcome us and make us feel at home. We did some nice walks from the house and went further afield for longer days out. The house was very comfortable and we loved our stay.

    Lesley2017-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful place to stay! The house is lovely, spacious, warm and has all the things you need to make yourself at home. Terry and his wife have thought of everything and more! Another plus is that Chinley is in a super location. All communication was excellent and they only live a couple of minutes away if you need anything, but let you get on with your stay otherwise. We will happily stay again if in the area. Highly recommended!

  • The house is in a lovely location, very convenient for great hiking trails in the Peak District. Nina's house is lovely -- well-decorated, well-considered with everything that we needed provided. We loved relaxing in the evenings, cozy with the fire. We all had such a wonderful time, even if it rained during our stay. We would definitely recommend to others and will consider staying again in the future.

    Beth2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay and the house was beautiful. Thankyou for your hospitality x

    KathrynandAnt2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fabulous stay - 100% recommended. Nina is great too - really helpful and friendly, both in preparation for our stay and on arrival. The place is kitted out *really* nicely. We loved lots of things but particularly the log burners, kitchen space, high-quality oven & pans (!), dining areas both in the kitchen and conservatory, lovely towels, king size beds, great shower & bath, garden great for our dog, and especially the wonderfully secluded location... Easily enough space for six adults. We could go on :) Thank you Nina! X

    Tom2017-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • Great setting. Loved using the BBQ. Comfy beds. Great walks nearby. Nina was very friendly and helpful. All in all a fantastic experience, highly recommended!

    Christopher2017-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is a fabulous house for a family get together. Every thing you need is to hand. It is beautifully designed, as my daughter said 'Straight out of Country Living' and very comfy. Nina was very welcoming and made us feel at home. She had left essentials for refreshments and a well equipped kitchen, especially for baking scones! We will return without a doubt.

    Philippa 2017-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • Nina met us on arrival and gave us a good orientation to the house. She kindly left breakfast items. The house is a really beautiful building with great natural light. Sadly it was a quick stay!

    Sarah2018-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • We loved everything about this place! Nina was so welcoming and helpful on (and before) arrival. The house has so many quirky and thoughtful touches that it felt as though we were staying in a boutique hotel. Everything is finished to a very high standard and is beautiful furnished. Nina's place was the perfect choice for a weekend away with friends.

    Julian2018-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent house with lots of wow factor. Nina was incredibly helpful. The track up to the house was slightly tricky but we soon got used to it.

  • We loved Jill’s place so much! It’s perfect for a stay in the Peak District, incredibly cosy and has everything you need. We loved the welcome packed which saved on a trip to the shops during our visit. We wished we’d booked longer and hope to come back.

    Rachael2017-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely little apartment in the garden of Jill and Dave’s beautiful house. The kitchen is small but well equipped (and comes stocked with the essentials such as cereal, milk, eggs etc), the living room warm and comfortable and the bedroom spacious. Jill and Dave were helpful and friendly and we very much enjoyed our stay. Would highly recommend.

    Julie2017-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • Jill and Dave have a lovely little home, set in the grounds of their family home. Maze House is but a short walk in to Chinley, where you will find The Old Hall Inn. A lovely pub and fantastic food. We can highly recommend it, for the ambience, the staff, the ale and the food. Jill and Dave made us welcome from the beginning. The dozen fresh eggs, fresh loaf, milk, butter, the warmth of the house and every other comfort that you’d wish for. We will definitely visit them again. Thank you both (and the chickens, the ducks and the two little dogs that welcomed our return each time).

    Andy2017-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • This is such a lovely little cottage. It's just on the outskirts of a small village called Chinley, and is very scenic and peaceful. Jill is a great host, and made sure we had everything we needed for our break, even fresh eggs from the chickens in the morning! There's space to park, and it's super easy to drive to some great walks or into Buxton. There's also a couple of lovely pubs within walking distance, I recommend making a booking for food at The Old Hall Inn - their steak & ale puddings are incredible. Overall, a great place to stay, we're definitely going to try and come back next year.

    James2017-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is perfect for a relaxing weekend away. Good location and easy to access the peaks. Jill and Dave were perfect hosts. We felt very welcome and were very grateful for all the groceries Jill provided upon arrival. Would definitely recommend to family and friends. Thank you!

    Elizabeth2017-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely, cosy space right in the peaks, Kinder Scout on the doorstep, and some very friendly dogs and chickens! Jill was a warm and generous host, and very easy to communicate with. We feel very refreshed after just a couple of nights, quiet, private, clean, with everything we needed.

    Belinda2017-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Jill's place was absolutely perfect! Jill and Dave have thought of absolutely everything (I've never stay somewhere so well equiped) and really go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable and having a nice stay. Lovely base for exploring the peaks and a very homely cottage to come back to at the end of a long day! Only wish we could have stayed longer.

It is half an hour walk from Chinley station and has a bus stop located just a minute walk from the cottage. There is a Navigation pub just outside the place (it serves food as well). • Marion and John were lovely and welcoming hosts, on-hand for any questions or directions required during our stay. The property is ideally located for exploring the High Peak area, as well as the canal basin and neighbouring towns/pubs. The property is well equipped and has excellent amenities for cleaning muddy hill-walking clothing and drying out wet jackets! We had a great weekend (despite the weather) and it was lovely to have a warm, reliable base to come back to at the end of each day. I would highly recommend this property for any peaceful Peak District getaway, and I look forward to my next visit.

Our names are Jane and Jim. We also have a very friendly black lurcher hound called Jack who lives in the house. We offer 2 bedrooms, 1 double, 1 single, and a bathroom for the exclusive use of guests to a maximum of 3. Please note that although we can accommodate up to 3 guests we will only book 1 party at once so that your party has the exclusive use of the bathroom.
You are welcome to share our large open-plan kitchen, dining, and living areas. We provide clean beds, plentiful clean towels, tea, coffee and toast for you to help yourself. There are superb country pubs and restaurants close by and we can offer lifts to/from should you require. If you would like more than a simple toast based breakfast (eggs and baked beans also available) there is a Morrisons supermarket with a cafe not far away. If you want something in particular I can shop for you and you can reimburse me on arrival. We offer some space in both our fridge and freezer for your food. We have a gas range cooker and the usual kitchen equipment. We (and the dishwasher) do all the clearing and washing-up.
We are located in a very peaceful rural hamlet close to the Peak District Boundary Walk. There are many beautiful circular walks and bike rides directly from our front door. Paragliding at Mam Tor is only a 10 minute drive.
  • Top stay in a top location! I haven’t done a private room stay on AirBnB before – usually go for a whole property - but I just needed a B&B for 1 night before going walking and I struck lucky. The lovely house is on the edge of the Peak District National Park with lovely views over the surrounding hills and perfectly positioned to quickly get out into the surrounding countryside. The house was spotless, the bedroom was warm and nicely furnished – nothing flashy, just a nice homely feel with a very comfy bed. There is a modern bathroom just for use of guests with a great roomy powerful shower! Jane and Jim and Jack the dog couldn’t have been more welcoming and friendly, they were delightful hosts and cooked a first class breakfast to set me up for the day. With a lifetime of Peak District climbing and walking behind him Jim was full of precious local knowledge about walking routes, good less well-known climbing crags for me to come back to when the weather gets better and fabulous tall tales of local climbing scene history. They do have a dog - Jack ,a black (and slightly greying) Lurcher - so if you don't like dogs this is not the place for you. But if like me you are a dog lover then Jack is the icing on the cake, he will loudly greet you on arrival with his welcoming nature signalled by the enthusiastically wagging tail, and will lap up all the attention you can give him. If you are looking for a good staging post for the Peak I would highly recommend this place.

  • Cottage was lovely; clean, spacious and well located directly opposite the two local pubs. We arrived during the Hamlet's busiest day of the year, as it was their annual beer and cider festival. This didn't hamper the check-in process though . Daniel was still responsive, and available to provide the keys and introduction as normal.

  • This row house was lovely! A nice outdoor space, as well as a restaurant and pub nearby. It was in the country, which was wonderful! We loved our time here and wish we could have stayed longer!

  • Daniels place is just lovely. The cottage was fully stocked and had everything you could need for a weekend. A great touch being that the fire was all set up ready to be lit. We also ate on the Saturday in the Old Hall. The food was delicious and a delightful set off staff. Would recommend it all. A perfect cottage for a refreshing and relaxing country weekend. We're already looking at when we can go back.

  • A lovely cottage, perfect for our weekend getaway. We went on a lovely room straight from the house and it was in a beautiful location. Everything was as described and immaculately clean. I highly recommend for a weekend in the Peaks!

  • Darren’s cottage is in a great location for visiting the Peak District and doing some hiking. It was very clean and easy to check into. Darren was a great host he was quick to reply to any questions we had and gave us local tips for walks and pubs.

  • Lovely house, Darren was really helpful in planning walks etc. would definitely recommend!

  • We so enjoyed staying at Darren's perfectly lovely cottage. It was sparklingly clean, warm and cosy and very well equipped. Wifi and Netflix were a hit with my daughter. The location was right in the centre of the Peak District and the beds were super comfy so we enjoyed good nights sleep and great days out. Although the cottage is in a village location it is near to shops and places to eat out. The smart kitchen and dining area provide comfort if you decide to eat in. Darren also very kindly posted a forgotten phone which helped restore my faith in humanity. We would definitely return. This cottage is a gem. Thanks Darren for a lovely little holiday.

    Sarah2017-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Great accommodation and even managed breakfast on the terrace. Perfect base for exploring the Dark Peak.

  • It was an absolute pleasure to stay at Darren's place. He was very friendly and helpful. He kept us up to date and gave us all info we needed. The house was in an excellent condition. He had left little notes with instructions which were very helpful. He also gave us ideas of places to visit. We will definitely visit again for another hiking holiday!

A Derbyshire rural retreat in the capital of the Peak district. Welcome to the Motor house, A first floor apartment just inside the peak National park. This unique apartment is set in the large private garden of our old Georgian farmhouse.
  • What a lovely cottage. Incredibly well equipped, warm and cozy. Easy access, off-road parking, friendly local village. As hillwalkers, it was perfect for us being so near to the main hills in the Peak District. Highly recommended.

  • Cosy accommodation, fully equipped, clean with all the amenities one would require for a few days away. Convenient for walking the Peak District and Avril & John could not have been more friendly and hospitable. We arrived later than planned on the Friday evening and Avril had stocked the fridge with essentials that were a god send come breakfast time the following morning. They could not have done anything more to make us feel more welcome. Thank you! Great food also available at their local pub- The New Inn. Don't be put off by the uninspiring interior as the chef and his food really are something special.

    Matthew2016-11-20T00:00:00Z
  • Very friendly welcome from Avril and John, they really couldn't have done more to make sure we were comfortable

    Mark2016-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • A true home from home! Avril made a great effort to prepare the apartment for us and our two young children, and to explain directions. The space is great and well-appointed, and the garden is just beautiful. We visited the wonderful Chestnut wildlife centre locally and it was the perfect base from which to visit friends and the national park. We will definitely stay again!

    Daisy2016-06-27T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed staying in Avril and John's "Motor House". The building is really just that, a large working garage full of lovely old cars with an apartment on top. There are other interesting cars around the property and the garden is beautiful. Avril and John are lovely people - very relaxed and very helpful. They had stocked the flat with eggs, fruit and other food and they helped us find walks and a good pub restaurant. Our slight reservation about the flat is that the garage smell seeps up the stairs to the flat despite there being a closed door between the two.

    Robert2016-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely place to make the most of the West side of the Peak District. The place is warm, clean and massive!! Avril and John were very helpful with local sights and walks and everything was provided in the flat so we didn't need to ask for anything. Would definitely stay here again

    Luke2017-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • Avril and John were fantastic hosts. They provided us with lots of useful information with regards to walks and where to eat in the local area. The accommodation was perfect for our group of 4 adults and I would highly recommend staying here and enjoying the wonderful countryside around Chapel-en-le-Frith.

    john2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Great apartment (situated above the detached garage) with lots of space and within easy reach of the outstanding Peak District. There's a handy co-op about 5 minutes walk away and a few restaurants too. It has a well equipped kitchen and was nice and warm. John and Avril made us feel very at home and we were greeted by the offer of a nice cup of tea on arrival. They'd also put some bits in the fridge including some very nice bacon! All in all, a good place to stay - nice and spacious, very quiet and cosy.

Mid 18th Century Cottage in the High Peak. Sympathetically restored cosy 3 bed cottage in the small hamlet of New Smithy just outside Chinley Village.
Packed with original features with flexible accommodation sleeping up to 7 peoples.
Chinley is situated in the Blackbrook Valley, on the western edge of the Peak District National Park. It is a good base for exploration of the western side of the Peak District and for walks up onto Kinder and its outlying hills. To the north is Cracken Edge, to the east is Brown Knoll, to the South is Eccles Pike and to the North-East are South Head and Mount Famine. If you prefer to explore a flatter landscape The Peak District Canal is accessible via Bugsworth Basin or enjoy the Sett Valley Trail in New Mills. Local Attractions include stately homes: Lyme Park and Chatsworth (great for Pride and Prejudice fans); Chestnut Wildlife Park is nearby and there are many caverns to explore across the area.

Our home is in the village of Chinley, in the High Peak, surrounded by great views and great walks - you can walk to Edale in a couple of hours. We have two great pubs only a five-minute walk away - one of which serves great food. Chinley is on the Manchester-Sheffield train line, has various shops - including a grocers, chemist, tea room, Indian restaurant and fish & chip shop. Our home is good for families (with kids) and groups, with a sizeable back garden and table tennis table.
Our home is comfortable and spacious, with plenty of outdoor space and a wooden table, bench & chairs on the patio with views of the surrounding hills. Feel free to help yourselves to the vegetables in the garden - they're organic and delicious! And if you go out and get muddy in the hills, we have a washing machine and tumble dryer in the garage!
A lovely, friendly village in the Peak District - ideal for mountain-biking and walking. Near to Kinder Scout, Edale, Mam Tor, Castleton and the Goyt Valley.

Hayfield View Chicken Barn is a luxury camping barn set in our field, in a very peaceful location yet close to a main access road. The barn has a light and airy modern decor and is stocked with all the amenities you could need for a successful self catering holiday.
The barn is upside down, with living accommodation (kitchen, breakfast table, sofa and TV) upstairs and the majority of the sleeping space (one double bed and one bunk bed - ie. two single beds, stacked) downstairs, with the shower room. We recommend the barn for groups of between 2-4 guests. The space is adaptable, offering privacy for two groups of two adults (one couple can use the bed downstairs while the other couple sleep upstairs on the sofa bed), or a cozy bedroom for parents and children (double bed and bunk beds downstairs), with a separate living area upstairs for the adults to enjoy their evening once the kids are asleep. The two floors are connected by a beautiful feature spiral staircase.
Hayfield View is one mile from the beautiful village of Hayfield and lies within the boundary of the Peak District National Park. The lane between the house and barn leads you up directly into one of the most peaceful and beautiful natural landscapes the country has to offer. You're walking distance from the foot of Kinder Scout, yet also only a short drive from local towns and attractions such as Buxton, Castleton, Chatsworth House and Bakewell.
  • This is lovely wee place, deceptively spacious and very cosy. It's got a great view of the hills, and there are lots of highly dramatic walks from the door, including onto Kinder Scout and South Peak. It's also a mile walk to Hayfield and its amenities, though you have to be fit to get back up the hill! I was on foot which is doable - especially because Linda extremely kindly gave me a lift to and from the train station - but most would want a car. The barn has been beautifully converted, is very modern and super-warm - you hardly need the heat on at all. It's quiet and if it's clear you'll see plenty of stars...

    Kerry2018-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful barn in a beautiful location. Linda was a great host and the barn there were so many useful and nice touches that made the place really cosy.

    Helen2017-12-03T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect getaway with everything you need to cosy up and enjoy some time away from the hustle and bustle. The chicken barn is delightful to stay in, no matter the weather. All the homely touches make it hard to leave! But if you want to get up and out there are amazing views (and pubs) in walking distance too! Linda and Keith are the best hosts. We felt right at home here and will definitely be looking to stay again in the future.

  • This is such a lovely place! Chicken coop converted to cosy cottage; lovely modern amenities such as full kitchen and sleek showerroom. Linda was absolutely lovely from beginning to end, prompt replies, a warm welcome, and even some dog treats for the dogs on arrival! Near lovely walking routes in the Peaks, this is a great place for those who wish to get out in nature and relax. As mentioned in the listing, there is a winding staircase, which was no problem for us and our dogs, but it's good to be aware of! Would love to come back someday :)

  • Lovely family home, great views, and convenient for the village and train station. There were some nice walks you could do without getting in the car. Hayley and family originally said they were going to be at the property until 6 on check in day but were really helpful and accommodating when we asked to arrive a little earlier due to having a young baby with us.

    Priscilla2017-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Hayley was a great host providing us with lots of useful information before our stay and sourcing cots and highchairs. The house worked well for us, 3 children and baby. A fantastic base location to explore the local area from and beautiful views from the loft room and kitchen window. For those with National Trust memberships there are lots of local options to explore. On our way home we enjoyed a visit Ilam Park, Dovedale We would have no trouble recommending Hayley and her home.

Vielen Dank.

    Anne2017-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • The studio is a great place to stay in the Peak District - wonderful views, perfectly cosy, and every tiny little touch you could think of. Linda had literally thought of everything we could need, and even came running out in the middle of Storm Brian to check we were okay! There are far more amenities in the studio than I would have settled for - everything you need in the kitchen, hairdryer, cereal, milk, tea, and lovely bathroom luxuries. It's a wonderfully warm, cosy place to retreat too after a cold day up a mountain, and close to many beautiful towns. The local inn does great food and warm cosy rooms too!

  • Well what can we say except brilliant. The property is well situated for walking with some of the walks literally out of the back gate of the property. There was everything and more than we needed included in the property and a lot of thought had gone into what guests might need. The welcome pack was one of the best we've had. Including treats for the dogs. We had a lot of snow during our visit however the local road was kept well gritted so no issues there. The property was also warm and cosy after the cold outdoors. Our hosts made our trip easy, good communication before and during visit and check in and out was easy. There are many local pubs however we enjoyed some take outs including Chinese and Curry both less than 10 mins away as was the local supermarket. A big thank you and would highly recommend.

    Helen2018-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • There was considerable cold weather and snow during my stay but the flat was perfectly warm and cosy. The welcome pack of essentials was a really thoughtful and appreciated touch. Linda was a super host, always happy to help and provided me with lots of super information about local amenities. The forest has been replaced over the years by lovely old stone cottages. Market day is still Thursday (but is no longer a cattle market!!!). The Market Place was recently filmed in the BBC drama “The Village”. The Kings Arms was the old pub and the cobbles were all covered with dirt !! A very exciting time for Chapel !!! The Old Hall and The Papermill pubs in the hamlet of Whitehough, Chinley (4 mins by car, 40 mins walking) - beautiful old buildings which serve fantastic food & beer with a gorgeous walled beer garden. A lovely walk along the old tram lines by the canal is the Navigation Pub in the historic Bugsworth Basin and this walk continues along the to Marple and Marple Bridge. The beautiful village of Hayfield is nearby and the old spa town of Buxton with its spectacular Opera House is a 10 minute drive away. A walkers and cyclists paradise - there are fantastic walks and cycle trails from the doorstep and being in the Peak district and within 5 minutes drive of Kinder Scout National Nature reserve, close to Edale, Castleton with it's famous caves and mines, and Hope Valley is an ideal base for walkers and cyclists and climbers. Chapel en le Frith Golf Course is a beautiful 18 hole golf course with magnificient views over Combs Reservoir a 3 minute drive away. Nearby attractions include Chatsworth House & Estate, Castleton – Blue John Mines and underground caverns by boat, the famous Bakewell, Ladybarn Reservoir, Buxton Pavillion Gardens and Opera House. Children will love the Heights of Abraham and Gulliver’s Kingdom at Matlock Bath and the Tissington and Monsall trails which are easy, flat walks (or cycles – cycles can be hired at the trails) along old railway tracks. Silkstone Cottage is new on the market this summer, but we also have another holiday let, Forge Cottage in nearby Chinley, which we have welcomed visitors to for a few years now. We have had some lovely guests and have had some amazing feedback, so if you want to see how we look after our guests check out our reviews.
Although on the edge of the village adjacent to the open countryside, the cottage is within walking distance (10-15 mins) of lovely pubs/restaurants/shops.
  • Lovely cosy cottage. Very clean and fully equipped. Close to great walks and tourist attractions. Lovely little touches from Terry. Really enjoyed our short break and the snow.

  • Terry was a fantastic host, very accommodating. She liaised with us continually before and throughout our trip. The water went off completely for 48 hours in the entire town due to a burst water pipe during our weeks stay and Terry bent over backwards to make sure we weren't put out, popping round with water and even allowing us to shower in her own home till our water came back on. There were refreshments and fresh followers waiting for us when we arrived. Truely supurb!!

  • From the moment we walked in, we knew we would enjoy our stay. The house was very clean and tidy and had everything we would have hoped for, and so much more. The house in newly referbished and has nice, spacious living spaces. We all really appreciated the little surprises left for us all and how much Terry did to make sure we had a comfortable stay.

  • This is by far the best airbandb we have stayed in. Frith is the perfect base to explore the Peak District and it was great to be able to return here each night after a busy day walking. Terry is a wonderful host with many nice touches in the property to make us feel welcome.

    Doug 2017-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • The house was absolutely spotless and the perfect location for us to explore this area of the Peak District. Access to Netflix helped pass the time on a particularly rainy day! We were really pleased to find a welcome pack of essentials, including bread, milk and wine

    Lucy2017-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent base for exploring the Peak District, we stayed with teenage boys so it was a great spot to get them outside and up some hills. The cottage is nice and tidy with shops and restaurants a short walk away. Fantastic coffee machine started every day perfectly! Attentive and friendly host made for a relaxing stay.

  • Terris place is a great base for walking. It is advisable to have a car I feel, though probably not essential. Silkstone has everything you need and Terri is welcoming and kind and patient. The cottage is also left with essentials and treats,.I felt they were very generous. Thankyou Terri.

The 'Little House' will make an ideal base for walkers, cyclists and anyone who just wants to relax and take in the beautiful Peak District views. Maybe take a well earned midweek or weekend break. Maybe use 'The Little House' as a hiking / camping base or for conducting business in and around Manchester, Sheffield, Stockport or Buxton. The Peak District National park is only a stones throw away and Manchester, Stockport, Buxton and Sheffield can be easily accessed from nearby railway stations.
The 'Little house' is a small semi detached stone cottage, originally part of a farmhouse and small farming community, built in 1840. It has a small front and back garden. The back garden has amazing views of the Peak Districts stunning countryside which can be admired from a small picnic bench in the garden. There is a small 'lean to' at the rear of the house which provides storage for bikes, camping gear and muddy boots. Inside is the lounge, which is equipped with Sky TV, NowTV, fast unlimited Wireless Broadband, a high quality music system which can be connected to your phone or laptop...quietly of course! For the occasional rainy day or lazy day at home we also have a PS3 and a selection of games. The lounge leads to a small well equipped kitchen, with all the usual facilities, including a microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge freezer, washing machine, and of course hot and cold running water. There is a small drop-leaf dining table in the kitchen, which can seat 3 people. Stairs then lead to the upstairs and the 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom. The main bedroom has a pine double bed, the second bedroom has a single bed. There is sufficient storage in both bedrooms for clothes etc. The bathroom has a bath and electric shower.
Furness Vale is a small rural community with good transport links into Manchester, Sheffield, Buxton and the Peak District. The nearby Peak Forest canal connects to the Cheshire ring in one direction and heads towards Buxworth Basin in the other. The location is ideal for walkers & cyclists, with anything from the flat canal towpath which is only a 5 minute walk away, to the more challenging Kinder Scout and Pennine way. Nearby 'must visits' include Buxton (10 miles), Castleton (10 miles), Hayfield (4 miles), Bakewell (25 miles), & Lyme Park (4 miles). Locally there are pubs and restaurants in Whaley Bridge, Hayfield and Disley, or if you prefer the city lights then Manchester is a 40 min train ride away. The nearest Supermarket is Tescos in Whaley Bridge, about a 5 minute drive away
  • Great place, great host. The one and only very small thing is proximity to the main road but honestly that's a very small thing in what is a great value rental with a great host.

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Jonathan's place. It has easy access to the Peak District and is a cosy and homely place to stay. The house was well equipped with everything we needed and had lots of decorative touches too! Jonathan was really helpful during the booking process and in showing us around on arrival.

    Rosie2017-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • The views from the back of the house are lovely and Jonathan was very helpful in guiding me to it and showing me around. We couldn't work the hob or the remote controls, probably down to my rubbish tech skills, but the beds were really comfy, the shower was great and the whole place felt incredibly well looked-after and welcoming. Highly recommend this house. Thanks!

    Polly2017-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location for walks and hearty pubs! Jon and Kathryn went out of their way to welcome us and provide information about the area. Really cosy and well equipped home!

Detached stone built cottage found at the end of a private driveway. A real hidden gem in small town on the edge of the Peak District. It has recently been fully renovated so provides modern comforts with characterful period features.
The cottage was built in the late 1800s. It has been fully modernised inside but still retains great character. Deep window sills, original fireplaces, lovely drystone walls in the garden, but excellent gas central heating, a log burning stove and a modern kitchen with everything you need to feel at home.
The Peak District was the first National Park to be established in the UK. It offers great accessibility and a variety of countryside ranging from the wlld moorland of the Dark Peak, to the gentle pastures and hidden limestone valleys of the White Peak. It is an outdoor playground with endless opportunities for walking and mountain biking as well as climbing, hang gliding, visitng caves, and most other things you can think of. As well as the countryside, there are beautiful towns and villages and the famous historic houses at Lyme Park, Chatsworth and Haddon Hall. As local residents and keen outdoor enthusiasts, we can offer a wealth of local knowledge and advice. And if you want to experience a bit of city life, Manchester is a regular 40 minute train ride from Whaley Bridge and offers everything you would expect of the big city. The house is located a short walk from all amenities. Within ten minutes there are numerous traditional pubs (CAMRA listed),Italian and Indian restaurants, takeaways,a supermarket, post office, some lovely cafes and other independent shops. The train station serves Buxton and Manchester late into the evening. Short walks can be taken from the house into the surrounding countryside, with beautiful views over the town, the Goyt Valley and Taxal Edge. The local cricket pitch must have the best views in Derbyshire! The Goyt Valley, its reservoirs and surrounding hills offer fantastic walks of varying lengths, from level graded paths to full-day hikes over the high moorland, perhaps to the famous Cat and Fiddle Pub. A short distance by car is the best of the Peak District& its scenery, with Kinder Scout,Mam Tor and the Great Ridge surrounding the vale of Edale. Again there are walks of any difficulty, and Mam Tor is a great accessible place to watch the paragliders. Also local to Mam are the numerous showcaves of Castleton with its Blue John stone and the dramatic Winnats Pass, a deep limestone ravine. This area also offers some of the best mountain biking. There are endless classic gritstone trails, some easy, some hard, and its possible to put together routes of any length (full info and recommendations provided). Climbers can also visit the classic gritstone crags of Windgather and Castle Naze within a short drive. Those seeking culture can visit Lyme Park, ten minutes by car, which was the filming location for the TV series Pride and Prejudice (think Darcy and lake) and has a beautifully preserved country house, together with formal gardens and a huge deer park. Nearby Hayfield and Chapel en le Frith were locations for BBC's The Village. Buxton is an elegant spa town with some classic buildings including the Crescent,Opera House and Pavillion Gardens. It's a great place to visit all year, but has a festival in July featuring opera, music and literary events, plus a fringe festival. Overall it's the perfect Peak District base, with something for everyone.
  • We had a really special time here. The cottage has a quietness about it that is just lovely. The beds are comfy, the hot water plentiful and there's lots of space to feel at home. Helen and her family came over and suggested some great walks around Castleton and up on the Kinder Scout. no complaints at all! Also lively lemon drizzle cake!

    Kirsten2016-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • Comfy, warm and clean, well located on edge of town, well equipped kitchen and off street parking. Hosts helpful and communicative.

  • What a lovely stay in a beautiful cottage! We arrived to a cosy warm cottage, with a lemon drizzle cake (yummy!) and milk/tea/coffee to help us settle in. Cosy, comfy, and very 'homely' the cottage had everything we could need. A great location with so much to do in the area, we will definitely be back. Thank you!

    Yvonne2016-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cosy and characterful cottage that feels very private being set back from the road. The four of us had a great time. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Helen responded quickly to any questions we had on message or phone before and during our visit. Thoroughly recommend.

  • Carr Cottage provides a good base from which to explore the Peak District. Although Whaley Bridge is not in the National Park itself it offers decent access. The cottage is well appointed and comfortable. As noted, the parking access is problematic and we resorted to parking up the road. Despite this inconvenience we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Recommended.

  • We had a wonderful stay, quiet and tucked away in beautiful surroundings - perfect for a writing retreat! The cottage was very clean and stylish, and Helen was a friendly and helpful host. Thank you, we will be back!

  • Great little house in charming village at the foot of Kinder Scout.

    Arthur2017-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Overall a really nice weekend stay in cosy and comfortable Accommodation. We were doing a trail race on the Sunday and the house was 2 mins walk to start. It was also well located in lovely town on Hayfield with immediate access to pubs and restaurants. Also within minutes of walks into Peak moorland. The house was set up well with lots of maps and guides.. well equipped for a weekend stay. Doug was a response and supportive host I reckon would be someone we would get on well with and would love to get his advice on mountain biking in Peak. Only caveat is that there is really no private outside space as it is a shared area with neighbours.. I think it is a great weekend short visit location but not if you want more private space hanging around and relax at the property Itself. Also .. not sure where I would store my bike if staying longer as no outside storage area. All in all though lovely spot and would stay here again for a short stay.

A beautiful cottage situated right in the heart of Hayfield Village, situated in Derbyshires beautiful Peak District National Park and at the foot of Kinder Scout and the moors beyond. The perfect for your stay in the peaks, walking, sight seeing or just relaxing.
A simple but cosy, warm and happy place to stay right in the heart of Hayfield with village shops, pubs and walks right on your door step. As the name of the road suggests- Kinder Road takes you to the famous Kinder downfall and beautiful peak district countryside. The cottage is central heated, well equipped with 2 x TVs, Wifi, Washing machine, microwave, Oven and Hob,Fridge/Freezer, Kettle, Toaster. Iron/board - Bedding and towels and generous pillows are provided.
Nestling in the valley on the River Sett, the first written record of Hayfield is to be found in the Doomsday Book when it was called 'Hedfeld' and was a natural clearing in the vast forest at the foot of the Kinder Scout, the highest point in the Peak District (2088ft) and the southern most point of the Pennine Chain. Hayfield became a mill village from the 17th century onwards and is famous as the birth place and childhood home of Arthur Lowe (Captain Mainwaring in Classic 'Dad's Army') whose home is marked by a blue plaque; In addition, the Mass Trespass of Kinder in 1932 started in the village. This mass trespass and the treatment of the walkers who wanted access to the Countyside was a key incident in the movement to open up the countryside for walkers and lead directly to the establishment of National Parks. Today, the village is a popular destination for walkers, day and staying visitors to the Peak District. The village is renowned for its high quality gourmet public houses, and has a range of shops including chemist, post office, hairdressers, grocers, greengrocers, as well as a popular art gallery and gift shops. Hayfield is renowned for its annual Country Show and Sheepdog trials held each September and also has a popular well dressing and annual carnival. The Sett Valley Trail is a flat 2 mile greenway route for cyclists, horseriders and walkers which links Hayfield to New Mills.
  • A super little cottsge in the heart of the village and a suberb place for exploring the hills, especially Kinder Scout. The cottage sits on the junction of a lane and the main road through the village although it is not at all busy. The pub is just across the road - very convenient for drinks and meals. Shops are close by and everyone was really friendly. A great place for a couple or a small family. The cottage had everything we needed.

    Ian2017-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay - really nice to leave the car where it was and walk straight out into the peak district. The gas fireplace was a nice surprise to keep the cottage cosy after a day in outdoors. Thanks Christian for hosting us!

  • Great accommodation, great location and great host. This little cottage is perfect for small groups and families . We stayed as a three and this charming cottage was perfect for us. Very central with great access to all local shops and pubs. Beds were very comfy and all the services were very easy to use. Upon arrival the cottage was immaculate with everything easy to find and clear instructions for heating and water etc. Christian the host was a very quick responder to a couple of queries pre trip and I cannot recommend this property more. definitely will stay again if I am back in the beautiful part of the country. Cheers

  • A beautiful and cosy little cottage in a lovely village. Everything required was provided and a very helpful host in Elaine. I'd have no hesitation in recommending this cottage to anyone.

Quaint and tastefully renovated 2 bedroom apartment, full of history and charm. It is one of the oldest buildings in New Mills and I'm lead to believe from my history lessons in school that this stoney building housed the cotton spinners from the mills back in the late 1700s! Just a stones throw from the Torrs Millennium Walk and the Sett Valley Trail. All amenities such as Sainsburys, Boots, The Crispy Cod Chippy, Local Pubs and Transport Links are all within a short walking distance.
The property is ideal for walkers and bikers. With easy access to the Sett Valley and Goyt Valley trails. There are a variety of leaflets and maps of the suggested trails available in the apartment. Advice is also available should you fancy visiting Lyme Park, Kinder Scout or Lantern Pike. 2 bedroom apartment, private entrance into a small hall, opening up to a large living room with a 2 and a 3 seater sofa. Smart TV and DVD player and a small selection of DVDs are provided. Fully fitted kitchen and dining room table that seats 6 persons. Fridge freezer, microwave, washing machine and all other appliances expected in a generic kitchen are all available for use. Bathroom, Shower and bath, towels, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner are there for your use if you so require. Master bedroom, double bed with tv, wardrobe and drawers. Second bedroom, single bed and drawers. We have also provided a fold away collapsible single bed (with extra bedding) that can be positioned in the living room for a fourth guest. Exterior, a raised decking area, with bench and chimila for guests use. Parking, a large public car park is next to the apartment, you may also if feeling brave, park outside through the tunnel, however I take no responsibility, should you damage your vehicle in the process.
  • Jason and Kim's place was perfect for our short stay in New Mills, location couldn't be better and we found the space cosy and comfortable. We had everything we needed, extra linen which was great and we appreciated the well-stocked kitchen. We may well be back on our next visit!

    Gemma2018-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • The flat is in a beautiful location, we loved being able to walk out of the door into stunning surroundings. Communication with Jason and Kim was easy and the flat was cosy, warm and well equipped. Great shops nearby especially Potts the bakers.

    Caroline2017-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Nice place, well equipped and extremely good value. Jason was a very communicative host.

    Rob2017-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great place. We stayed as a stop off on a long journey. New Mills is attractive town in a beautiful setting. From Jason & Kim’s apartment you have stunning views across to hills which were capped with snow when we stayed. I imagine on warmer evenings it would be lovely to sit on their terrace with a glass of wine & enjoy the view. The apartment was spotlessly clean and comfortable. We felt very welcome. There were lovely thoughtful touches - cereal in the cupboard, milk in the fridge and bottles of shampoo/bubble bath in the bathroom etc. The kitchen was particularly well equipped if you wanted to cook. I would definitely recommend it. I’m just sad we only stayed in the area for one night and continued on our travels the next day. It would be a lovely area to stay in for a bit longer. Great value too.

  • Lovely place to stay. Excellent communication with Kim.

    Wendy2017-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • Jason & Kim’s apartment was spotlessly clean and cosy. The Area was quite and picturesque. We were made to feel very welcome and the thoughtful touches like hot & cold beverages, cereals and clean fresh linen made the whole experience complete. Plenty of great walks on your doorstep with local shops and amenities a stone throw away. We had a small child staying with us so Jason & Kim went out of their way to purchase an extra fold away bed which went above and beyond my expectations. I would definitely recommend anyone to stay at this location and I will be using the apartment again in future.

  • Sean is an amazing host. The space is beautiful and clean with plenty of room and well equipped! Thank you.

  • Sean's house was perfect for a family stay over in the picturesque town of New Mills. The place was well decorated, luxurious and quite clean with loads of amenities. Sean was quite helpful and responded promptly to ensure everything was fine during our stay. The location is ideal for exploring Peak District or Manchester.

    Ayman2017-12-03T00:00:00Z
  • Sean’s place is fab and very spacious for our family of 4 and a dog. The 3 shower/bathroom makes life so convenient, the jacuzzi bath and jets shower are extra bonus! The entertainment system with large tv, sound system and PS3 had kept us entertained. Even though we didn’t meet Sean in person, he was prompt in responding to messages. There is a park beside the house, great for children and dogs. It’s only few minutes walk to the town, the Millenium Walk and the Torrs Hydro. The only slight downside is we can hear the neighbour at quiet hours.

    Li2017-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Sean was really reactive! And very nice. He told us all the good place around the house. And the house is really nice, quiet and clean. We really enjoy to stay there.

    Pauline2017-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great value! Loads of space! Definitely worthwhile visit

    Harry2018-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • The house is really suitable if you and your friends want to find a place to escape from the busy city and enjoy yourself with the nature. There are some walking trails around the accommodation. My friends and I had a nice walk on Torr Vale and alongside the Goyt River. The scenery is also very beautiful and serene. The house is also big and cosy. The cleanliness is amazing! Sean is a great host too. He responded very well to my questions and helped me with my trips as I asked him about the walking trails. Overall, the price is worth the experience. Very recommended!

  • My family stayed here over the Christmas/New Year break and it was the perfect space for three couples to enjoy a cosy stay. The kitchen is a great space to cook in and sit around the table, the lounge is really nice with a great wood burner to relax in front of and bedrooms are perfect. Couldn't fault the house or the surrounding area of Hayfield.

  • Verdy's house is absolutely great. A fantastic place to stay to enjoy the Peaks and it has everything you need for your break even if the weather doesn't play ball.

  • Excellent place to stay, house has been recently refurbished and looks great. Good location for walks, pubs etc..

    Rachael2017-07-16T00:00:00Z

  • Beautifully renovated cottage in a picturesque street and village. Well-equipped kitchen, with modern facilities in quaint style, comfy living room and good sized bedrooms, though head space is limited in the attic room. A lovely play to stay for a few days and a good base for walking the Peak District. Would be very happy to warmly recommend it.

    Bob2017-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Verdy's house is beautiful and full of character and Hayfield is very picturesque with plenty of places to hike. Getting there was simple and the communication was great. Verdy had milk and Irish whiskey cake for us upon arrival which was a very nice touch and the welcome pack had all of the info that was needed with some great hikes planned out. I would highly recommend Verdy's house!
