Ristorante africano
“Located right in the heart of Nairobi City next to Nyayo House is The Nairobi Gallery. It is housed in the Old PC’s (provincial commissioner) office building. Built in 1913, it was referred to as ‘Hatches, Matches and Dispatches’ because of the births, marriages and deaths that were recorded here.”

Ristorante africano
“People come to this restaurant in the city centre to try traditional Kenyan dishes like sukuma wiki greens and ugali—a staple made from maize—for just KES 500. The decor is very simple, a few plastic chairs and Coca-Cola umbrellas, and there’s a huge terrace that’s perfect for sunny days. You can get fish that’s spicy or mild, and request which herbs and spices you’d like it to be cooked in. I recommend ordering your fish “dry,” which tastes better than the stewed option. And add a side of kachumbari, a salad of chopped onion, tomato, and lemon.”

Pub
“There’s an interesting street scene just outside this club. Most evenings, customers spill out of the club onto Kimathi Street, where vendors are selling street food, such as meat on sticks and samosas. It’s a really interesting mix of cultures—taxis waiting, dressed up clubbers, and vendors with their portable stalls. On a night when there’s a big sports match happening, you’ll get the most people pouring out onto the street afterward, sometimes chanting, or celebrating, or flying flags.”

“For a bit of coffee and cake, try Kaldi's. It's popular with the after work crowd. Good for food, and people watching ”

Caffetteria
“The coffee shop at the Murumbi Gallery is set in a lovely tranquil garden with foldable wooden tables and chairs. Coffee and cakes are served from a food truck, and there’s always a nice atmosphere because people come here after going to the gallery. Prices are very reasonable: A slice of cake is KES 180. This is a good pit stop if you’re spending the day in the CBD and need to escape the crowds briefly. Also, the coffee comes in big colourful mugs, which I think is so nice. It’s one of my favourite places.”
