Eagle Nest is a gem of a Great Camp nestled in a private, pristine lakefront Adirondack estate. Guests may enjoy the Main Lodge, Guest House, Boat House, Lean-to, Airplane Hangar with it's Beach ideal for kids, Tennis Court, as well as many private trails and lakes. The property is perfect for family reunions and retreats as there are enough activities for all ages and energy levels, and enough space for large gatherings, without losing the feel of intimacy that comes with the idyllic location.
The Main lodge and guest cottage together total 23 guest bedrooms for a total of max 40 guests: 8 Kings, 6 queens/doubles/2 twins and 4 singles*, most with their own bathroom and walk-in closets and lake views.
The Main lodge features a warm, spacious Classic Great room with huge fireplace, innumerable Adirondack details, custom made furniture, card tables and reading nooks. The birch-bark wrapped dining room has an expandable main dining table, as well as a beautiful, covered octagonal porch overlooking the lake, with comfortable sofas for outdoor dining or relaxing. The professional kitchen features a walk-in fridge chamber, industrial twin range, with separate grill top, 2 dishwashers. Other fun gathering areas include the library study and downstairs, a real 1930’s Speakeasy bar room with pool table and table tennis room.
The property is perfect for exploring the outdoors. Whether on the lakes fishing or boating, or swimming or in the woods where miles of marked trails for mountain biking or hiking, or across the fairways of this former 9-hole golf course, guests have the chance to experience life in the Adirondacks in the luxurious exclusivity of their own private estate. There are only four other boat-houses in the four miles Utowana and Eagle Lakes, and these spring-fed lakes boast some of the cleanest, purest water on the Adirondack park.
Location:Eagle Nest was built in 1937 on a private estate (and former golf course) 3 miles from town of Blue Mountain Lake, New York in the heart of the Adirondacks: 2 hours north of Albany, 2 hours south of Lake Placid and the High Peaks, and 3 hours south of Montreal. Eagle Nest owns all the land around Eagle Lake and much of the land around both Utowana Lake and Blue Mountain Lake. Most of the land is under conservation easements with numerous trails for walking, bike-riding, x-country skiing.
(*5 of these rooms are located in the more modest staff wing, 4 of them share a hall bath but have their own closets and sinks.)
The carefully preserved Great Camp complex includes:

Main Lodge: Original Great Camp Main House includes 15,000 sqft, 9 unique guest rooms, each room has own bath and walk in closet, many with fireplace; staff wing consists of 5 additional rooms that sleep 6 comfortably. Whereas the rooms in the Main lodge and Guest house have their own bathrooms and walk-in closets, 4 of the 5 staff rooms have sinks in the rooms and share a hall bathroom.
Guest House: The original guest cottage to the Main house and only 50 yds up a short path includes 5,000 sqft, 3 Kings, 3 double-twin guest bedrooms, 1 single bedroom; each room has own bath, walk-in closets, all but one have own fireplace; living room; small kitchen; porch.
Laundry House: Rustic studio-type cottage with one King or two twins, walk in closet, mini Kitchenette and bath with shower is a short distance further from the Main house and faces the garage and the woods.
Boat House: Original Boathouse with large deck, 2nd floor party room with 270 degree views and balcony over lake, 3 available boat slips; 4 canoes for guest pleasure. The Boat livery on Blue Mountain Lake rents boats and will deliver to Eagle Nest dock; ping-pong room; Second floor great room; 2 bathrooms.

The Owner Liaison is Lisa Boillot who is available to answer any questions leading up to your stay and to help planning fun events. Once at Eagle Nest you will be welcomed by the Guest Manager who check in daily and taken care of by Property manager who will be sure fires are safely set and who can help with any party set-up. The house will be tidied and fresh towels provided at midweek. The wood for fireplaces will be restocked and fires laid daily. Any additional services for helping to organize parties, cookouts, lean-to fire-pit, and clean up afterwards are provided happily by the Property manager and his staff, and are billed for a small hourly fee to engage the staff required.
There are a host of attractions nearby if you actually venture to leave the property:
~ The Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake has been hailed as best regional museum in the world and has served as a example for other regions.
~ The High Peaks region offers 46 peaks to hike that are over 4000ft and hikes ranging from easy to challenging with every possible option in between; Guidebooks are available to explore these peaks - best to plan well ahead for food, water, route clothing and rain date in the event of bad weather.
~ The Villages of Long Lake, Lake Placid and North Creek offer shopping, restaurants, libraries and their own festivals; WILD Nature centre in Tupper Lake, white water rafting in Northcreek, Gore mountain and Old Forge water park are only few of the attractions in the area.
...But in general, there is so much to do on Eagle Nest property, that candidly, we rarely find the need to go anywhere else!
There is no public transportation direct to Blue Mountain Lake. The nearest trains and buses go to Albany, Warrensburg (bus only), Saranac and Lake Placid. The closest airports are Albany and Montreal, (at 2 and 3 hours distance, respectively) with Boston and NYC airports roughly 5 hours away.
Eagle Nest – A HISTORY
Built in 1937 by the Hochschild family in style of Great camps as a vacation village of buildings on a Golf course originally complete with riding stables and dairy, chicken house, ice house, boat house, laundry house, tennis courts, croquet pitch, and vegetable and flower gardens. Today many of these structures remain, reminders of the days when travelling to the Adirondacks demanding a journey of several days and sojourns lasted for several months.
Located in the heart of the Adirondacks Park, on its own 2000 acres around a chain of 3 lakes, Eagle Nest is a pristine wilderness property, with miles of trails for hiking and mountain biking in the summer, skiing and snowshoeing in the winter, where wildlife abound in the peace of the forests, lakes, and the expansive ranges of the former golf course.
Spring / Summer
Eagle Nest boasts an abundance of summer fun with something for everyone. Hiking, biking (mountain biking and on-road), dipping or swimming the one mile length of Eagle Lake, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, tennis, fishing, waterskiing, in-lake trampoline, sailing, paddle-boarding, yoga on the covered porch and wildlife viewing excursions on the lakes. Locally there are pontoon boats for hire and guided historical tours of the three lakes make for wonderful outings.
Fall / Winter
Hiking, biking, canoeing, fishing in the Fall, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing on the frozen lake are some ways to discover the magic of Eagle Nest in its winter white.
INDOORS AT EAGLE NEST
The fireplace and its surrounding comfortable sofas, reading area and various card tables, make for a cozy scene in the great room, regardless of the season.
At the end of a long mine-shaft of a corridor is an intimate secret Speakeasy bar, where, transported back to the prohibition days of the 1930’s, guests are invited to try their skill at the pool table, ping-pong table, or to sit down to an exciting game of the traditional Eagle Nest card game Gropsch.
Blue Mountain is home to the Adirondack Museum, one of the foremost regional museums in the world, with exhibits covering all aspects of the history, people and wildlife in an outdoor setting of 22 cabins and buildings, overlooking the lake. The museum often hosts demonstrations, lectures and fairs, including axewielding Adirondack Mountain Men and the nationally renowned Rustic Furniture Fair.
To the East, lie the majority of the HighPeaks, 46 mountains over 4000 ft, each unique experiences to climb – some as single-day excursions and others as multi-day challenges.
To the South, Northcreek is home to several river rafting adventure companies, as well as strong down hill skiing at Gore mountain, Balloon touring and the Northcreek railway.
To the North, Lake Placid village was host to the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics, and offers a host of activities from downhill skiing at the legendary Whiteface Mountain to the only public bobsled and luge runs in the country. The great athletes of the world come to practice at Lake Placid, and their games and rehearsals are often open to the public.

Eagle Nest is a magical place and any guest that has ever visited has written wonderful letters of thanks for wonderful weeks of memory making. The evidence is after only a few years, we have families who come back every year and have made Eagle Nest a family tradition of their own.
