The Regent's Chambers is a marvellous and comfortable place to stay. The kitchen is country style, with oak worktop and cream cabinets. It's fully stocked with basic necessities (tea selection, real coffee, olive oil, salt, pepper, spices and herbs). There is also bread, spreads and cereals on offer (though you need to bring milk). The bathroom (like the kitchen) is completely new, with luxury standing shower and separate bath. Don't worry if you forget your shampoo, conditioner or shower gel as it's all provided for you. There are two big bedrooms with super king size beds and pillowtop mattresses, very soft 400 thread count sheets and feather pillows. The living room has a 49" Smart TV with freeview. You can watch Super HD Netflix, Amazon Video and BBC iPlayer too - the flat has its own Netflix and Amazon accounts so no need for a subscription. There's a large double sofabed (14cm full double memory foam mattress) and a single daybed (3000 pocket pillowtop mattress). Both beds are super comfy and have lots of pillows and cushions for maximum cosiness. There are double curtains in the bedrooms and living room, which all look out onto the street - the voile is to ensure privacy (but still lets in the light) plus lined blackout curtains on top. The flat is on the ground floor so it's more accessible for people with limited mobility, but note there are three shallow steps up to the front door so it's not suitable for wheelchairs. Parking is easy - there's lots available on Etherley Lane and though there are single yellow lines around the corners there are no other restrictions. It's best to park just outside the side gate, where you first check in. During Kynren days there is parking enforcement on the street but parking permits are provided in the flat for you to use. You can use smart check in to get into the flat with a code I give you at booking, so you can arrive whenever is convenient, even in the small hours of the morning. Have a lovely stay!
Known as the gateway to Weardale, Bishop Auckland is a bustling market town in the Vale of Durham, standing high above a meander in the River Wear with commanding views of the surrounding countryside. Walk fifteen minutes from the flat straight into the beautiful grounds of the magnificent Auckland Castle, the country residence of the Prince Bishops for more than 900 years. And don't miss the annual Bishop Auckland Food Festival which takes place in the castle grounds every April. It's AMAZING. Surrounding the Castle are the 800 acres of the Bishop's Deer Park - a great place for a summer picnic or an autumnal stroll through vividly coloured parkland. It's open all year round and is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. The town is set for major developments over the next few years, with a new welcome building at Auckland Castle, a new Museum extension, an institute of Spanish art and culture, and the redevelopment of the 17th Century Walled Garden which will feature stunning new glasshouses providing 'garden rooms' restaurant and event spaces. The town burst into life in 2016 as Eleven Arches presented the first season of ‘Kynren – an epic tale of England’ - the £31 million open-air live action night show that attracted more than 100,000 visitors during the summer. Kynren returns in 2017 to take audiences on an epic storytelling journey through 2,000 years. Bishop Auckland's historic town centre has a thriving arts and cultural offering, with the Bishop Auckland Town Hall home to a superb library, cinema, theatre and arts complex. Plus, the town has more than 200 shops - head for Bondgate for boutiques and specialist shops that you won’t find on the high street. A mile from the town are the remains of Binchester Roman Fort, home to the best preserved Roman military bath house in Britain. And at Escomb, you can see one of the finest examples of early Christian architecture in Northern Europe at the restored 7th Century Escomb Saxon Church. It's one of the first churches in the whole of the UK, so not really one to miss. Don't forget also the National Shildon Railway Museum for train enthusiasts. Shildon was pretty much the birthplace of railways so do please go and check out an engine or two. Bishop Auckland is very well placed for trips to lots of local castles, the North Pennines and day trips to Durham (half hour drive).
  • Highly recommend to anyone! The flat is very spacious and has everything you would need. It really is a ‘home from home’. A great place to base yourself if you want to see the region. We went to Durham, York, Beamish, and Whitby, and was pleasantly surprised with Bishop Auckland. Will be back!

  • I can not recommend this home highly enough. This is the best value for money place you will find in the area. It is spacious and very comfortable and has so many amenities, more than any Airbnb we’ve been to. The space is stylish and bright. It is in an adorable town. Emma was a great host and responded quickly. This should be your first pick for a place to stay.

The Pink House: cosy and quirky; two bedrooms; self-catering. Ideal for: Hadrian's Wall, Hexham and Corbridge, Newcastle upon Tyne, Beamish Museum, Durham City, the Bishop Auckland Kynren, Barnard Castle, Teesdale and High Force, Saltburn by the Sea.
The Pink House is itself a place to visit. Its strip pine floors, oak board doors, map wall and wood burning stove are just the start. It is filled with original artifacts made by the owner: driftwood and copper fish; a plate rack made from driftwood and upcycled scaffolding boards; and a forest of driftwood trees. The Pink House can sleep up to five guests. There is a double bed in the main bedroom, two singles in the second bedroom, and a single bed settee in the living room. There is a shower room on the first floor and a ground floor toilet (see images).
Wear Valley Junction is a friendly place nestling on either side of the Weardale railway line. All the houses have small gardens and there is a large green used for community get togethers. Low Barnes Nature Reserve is half a mile away and a short walk along a path beside the railway line takes you to Witton le Wear.
  • Stop reading reviews and book this house! You won't regret it. Comfortable. Clean. Beautifully decorated. Tom is a great host and an all around nice guy. The house is conveniently located, and interestingly located. My little boy loved the fields of sheep, the ponies nearby, the train tracks... We had a lovely stay - watched Scarface on DVD over a game of scrabble. Now get booking...

    Cameron2016-04-03T00:00:00Z
  • The Pink House was exactly what we'd hoped for. A long journey coincided with a special birthday, and finding somewhere off the beaten track with its own distinctive character to break the drive, feel instantly at home and celebrate was a lot to ask for. We loved it immediately and would gladly have stayed an extra day or two. The situation is unique, in a terrace of old railwayman's cottages, alongside a disused railway track. You get a sense of the history of the immediate surroundings, and a fabulous view from the bedroom over the fields. Tom has obviously put not just time and effort into the cottage, but clever design and personal touches which we found delightful. Everyone might not appreciate eco-messages in the loo, but if you tend towards a green outlook and find beige hotel rooms characterless and depressing, it's just fine. Finding old artefacts inventively re-used was playful and charming. We particularly liked the old OS maps of the region carefully aligned, papering the kitchen wall, and the ladder acting as a plant support. Don't get the wrong impression though - there's nothing fusty about the cottage. Everything is spotlessly clean and orderly, while supremely cosy and homely, with a great selection of books and DVDs to enjoy if you decide on a night in; fire in the woodburner just ready for a match, superb shower and very comfortable bed. We took Tom's advice on local places to see after our stay, which made our all too brief visit memorable. If you are looking for more than a functional stopover, this is a great place to recharge your batteries. I think we'll be back!

    Julie2015-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at The Pink House - my only wish is that we could of stayed for longer.

    Catherine2015-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time staying at The Pink House for the Great North Run; Tom was very welcoming and extremely helpful and the house is a great place to stay in a beautiful location. The only shame was that we couldn't stay longer!

    Katharine2015-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous house! Spotlessly clean, superbly equipped, beautifully located, and even nicer than the very nice photos. Tom and his wife have obviously poured a lot of love into this place and what a wonderful result. Thankyou very much. We will return!

    Christine2015-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at the Pink House. Tom sent us good directions, and our sat-nav found the place with no problems. The house is really comfortable and has everything you need for a self-catering stay. We loved all the little mice and other unexpected items! The bed is comfortable, and the shower is fantastic. We spent ages looking at the map wall. The neighbours are really friendly. There's loads to do in the area, and we would love to come back again some time.

    Amanda2015-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • This is the second time I've stayed here and it's always a delight! There's everything you'd need and Tom is super lovely, as he's just up the road. Would really recommend a stay and would certainly come back!

    Beckie2015-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • This little Gem of a house is absolutely beautiful. Tom's little touches are superb. I was up on business and all I really need is good wifi and clean sheets but the pink house offered me so much more and I didn't want to live. I think I might just move in. Thanks Tom for the use of your lovely cottage. I will certainly be back except I will bring my walking boots next time;0)

Set in a conservation area of Bishop Auckland, this spacious and welcoming flat is in a great location for visits to Auckland Castle, exploring the Pennines and visits to Durham. Kynren is also a short walk away. After a great day out come back to the gorgeous, light-filled rooms, cosy fireplace, comfortable sofas, speedy internet, super king size beds and whirlpool bath. Couples, individuals, business travellers and families with kids (any age) are all very welcome.
The flat has two large bedrooms with plenty of wardrobe and drawer space for your belongings. The super king size beds (6ft wide), one with 2000 Pocket Spring Memory Foam Mattress and the other with 3000 Pocket Pillow Top Spring Mattress will give you a restful night's sleep. In the sizable living room, the comfy full double sofa bed with memory foam mattress is accompanied by the chaise longue, cosy armchair and mahogany dresser and corner cabinet. The 49" 4K smart TV is in the corner, connected to the fastest internet available in the area (up to 74Mb) and a TalkTalk TV Box allowing you to pause and rewind 80 freeview channels. You can watch Super HD Netflix, Amazon Video and BBC iPlayer too - the flat comes with its own Netflix and Amazon accounts so no need for a subscription. The sofa bed is a full double memory foam fold-out version, so no uncomfortable crease down the middle that you get with clic-clac beds. There is plenty of storage for your clothes and belongings in the dresser, allowing you to properly unpack as you wish. In addition to the usual central heating (new radiators installed throughout), there is the very cosy gas fire in the living room, which is easy to operate and comes with children's safe guard for those of you with little ones coming to visit. The heating is easily controlled throughout the flat with a Nest thermostat - which also means the apartment will be nice and warm ready for your arrival. If you prefer more tropical temperatures there are also three electric heaters in both the bedrooms and living room. The dining kitchen is well stocked, both with essentials and with good cooking equipment. There are pots and pans of course, but there's also a slow cooker, steamer, weighing scale and juicer. When you arrive you will find real coffee for the cafetiere and a selection of teas. Herbs and oil are also included. The kitchen has a slimline dishwasher and washing machine too, which will help a lot for those intending to stay longer than a couple of days. There is bread in the freezer, plus a selection of spreads and cereals. The fridge has a water dispenser, butter and a bottle of prosecco! (You will need to bring your own milk, though). The bathroom has a corner bath with whirlpool jets. There is a standing shower (in the bath) so the bathroom is great for a quick shower before work or for long, luxurious bathing! There is a backyard too for some outdoor, private space away from the street. This is shared with the flat below, which is also airbnb. Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions :)

Newly renovated. Light, spacious and airy ground floor flat in a perfect location for Kynren. The flat has full amenities for a comfortable stay including a washing machine and fully equipped kitchen. We will do everything we can to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
The flat has a large double bedroom, living room with sofa-bed, dining area, kitchen, and bathroom with a shower. It is a very spacious flat for 2 adults but is still very comfortable for a family or 4 adults. Access is disabled friendly due to the ground floor location immediately next to the car park. There is CCTV for the block of flats which covers the car park and doorways and any vehicles parked can be seen from the flat.
The flat is situated within the town. It is a short 5-10 minute walk to the hospital and Supermarkets and a very pleasant 20 minute walk to the centre of the town. In the opposite direction it is a 30 minute walk to a retail park with a range of shops. The town has a beautiful castle and lots of events throughout the year including the spectacular Kynren. The city of Durham is approximately a 25 minute drive and Newcastle is approximately a 45 minute drive.
  • Overall, we were satisfied with our overnight at Laura’s place. We didn’t meet in person but were greeted by her partner Patrick who made sure we were settled in. Definite pluses include: off street parking just outside the door, self check-in, tea/coffe/fresh milk/cereal for breakfast, most needed kitchen utensils, shampoo/soap, comfy beds, new bathroom and kitchen fittings and excellent communication when we ran into a problem with the water heater. The apartment has been recently painted with some very strong smelling paint so we needed to keep all the windows and patio door open for fresh air but hopefully it will clear soon for future guests. The apartment is also well located to walk to the supermarket or Main Street where there are lots of pubs. Thank you, Laura :)

    Karli2018-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Laura’s place was a perfect stop for our way up to Scotland. We had a bite to eat at one of her recommendations and it was a friendly great newly renovated pub down the road. The flat block is quiet so I got plenty of work done and had a cosy sleep.

    Alex2018-06-07T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little flat with good amenities, Laura was the perfect host would definitely recommend it

    David2018-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Great value for money, very spacious - more spacious than expected and great amenities. Free Parking outside as well with lots of parking spaces. Laura was super quick communicating and made the whole booking/checking in process really flexible and easy. Highly recommend!

    Sarah2018-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean. Milk was a nice touch 😊.

    Daniel2018-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • Lauras apartment is conviently situationed for all the local amenities, and readyt to travel further afield in the beautiful countryside near by. I would recommend this apartment to everyone. Thanks Laura

    Martyn2018-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • The flat itself is totally fine and is close to shops and things, Laura made check-in easy and straight forward. I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you are travelling alone though as we didn’t feel that safe, unfortunately one of the other residents came back drunk and was singing loudly outside the bedroom window for an hour at 2am, before then proceeding to have a blazing row with someone in the flat above, getting incredibly aggressive to the point where I almost called the police. Hopefully this was a one-off as it made our stay really unpleasant. Don’t use the stairwell to get to the flat as it is full of litter and is obviously used as a urinal, you can access the flat better by going around through the car park.

    Jennifer2018-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • We were impressed by the efficient and accurate communication, hospitality and help with sorting any issues (the key box had jammed, but Laura was there to sort it out within 10 minutes). The flat was spotlessly clean, plenty of bedding and towels. Milk and cereals, coffee, tea and biscuits were available to tide us over. The cold water dispenser on the fridge was very welcome in the hot weather. We loved the little, covered patio area on the verge of the lawn, where we enjoyed drinks and meals and had a friendly chat to a couple of neighbours. This is also where we spent time browsing through all the tourist brochures left by Laura. Enjoyed a guided tour of Bishop Auckland castle and the Roman bath excavation. So many things to see and do around the place.

  • Basic clean place to stay. Good and central for travelling around the area. More a business than pleasure stay I think. If I am in the area working I would stay again. Kitchen a little limited in equipment for proper cooking and no dining table and chairs or TV but great wifi and very comfy bed and lots of hot water so it depends what you are looking for. Emma was a really helpful lovely host

Totalmente sconsigliato.

  • Exceptional value for money - Paul's flat was exactly what we needed for our stay!

    Catherine2018-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Apartment is a great family friendly apartment. Paul was great in answering any of my questions and gave us lots of recommendations and advice about local amenities and activities for the kids. Apartment was clean and had everything we needed.

  • Perfect accommodation. Everything was very clean and exactly as described/expected. Check in was very easy. We wanted one night’s accommodation near the A1 and this was perfect. Particularly thoughtful to have tea, coffee, milk and bread for us. We self catered using the Spar next door. Would definitely recommend and would stay again if needing accommodation in the area.

  • Host was nice enough, I was a little shocked to see stains on the linen and towels but for the money it was ok. No TV and no internet so if you stay here be sure to take a laptop or iPad with films on already.

The self catering cottage includes a lounge /dining area which includes a TV and video. Also, a separate, rear ground floor study/bedroom is accessed through the patio door. These areas are beautifully decorated with cream walls and laminate floor. Our property also includes a well equipped kitchen and two bathrooms, the ground floor shower room is level and suitable for disabled access. Upstairs, there are a further three bedrooms, one being a large double. All accessible from one passage.
  • Lovely house with quaint touches. Small courtyard at back which was a lovely suntrap. Views over open countryside but is on main road through village so some traffic noise. Near to Hamsterley Forest which is great for families, dog owners, walkers & cyclists.

  • A really good sized cottage, we fitted in 4 adults, 2 children and a baby just fine. The host left milk and biscuits which was a lovely touch, and offered to bring a travel cot over if we needed it as well. Very quick communication on our journey up as we were updating our time of arrival, and didn't mind at all that we were earlier than we'd originally thought.

Welcome to Bishop’s Rest, a recently refurbished 3-bedroom, 2 bathroom terraced house, located a couple of minutes walk from the centre of Bishop Auckland in County Durham. With three bedrooms (and sofa bed in the lounge) sleeping up to 7, the property is ideal for contractors working in the region, or a family or group of friends looking to enjoy the local area.
Welcome to a 3-bedroom terraced house that has recently been refurbished and furnished from top to bottom. As soon as you walk in, hopefully you’ll see the care and attention to detail that’s gone into making this property a modern and comfortable place to stay. The main living space is open plan, with one half given over to the large sofa and twin armchairs and the home’s wall-mounted smart TV. You can access Freeview and Netflix from here, so you needn’t miss out on that series you’re following just because you’re away from home. Also in here is the extendable dining table, ideal if you’re a family wanting to share quality time together during a sit down meal, or if you’re here with colleagues on business and want a space you can share to work. It’s also worth noting that the property has an ultra fast internet connection, so you can stay in touch with the office or friends back home. Like the rest of the house, the kitchen has benefited from a complete refit. It’s light and bright, and has many of the appliances you’d expect (and need) to help make your stay a clean and comfortable one. The kitchen is also well equipped, including a Nespresso coffee machine (great if George Clooney pops round); and for the more health conscious a Nutri Ninja to make your own smoothies; and a spiralizer so you can turn your veg into fun noodles. The kitchen leads to the first of the home’s two bathrooms, and also gives you access to the small outside yard. Venturing upstairs, you’ll find the home’s three bedrooms. One has a superking bed that can be easily split into twin beds; the second has twin beds, and the third bedroom is a single. It’s the flexibility of the bed arrangements that help make this house an ideal place to stay for a group of colleagues away on business, contractors working nearby as well as a family or group of friends travelling to the area to see the sights and enjoy the great hospitality of the North East. All the beds are new, and presented hotel-style - that is with puffed up pillows, crisp, clean sheets and cosy duvets. There’s storage space in the bedrooms for your bags and clothes, and a second bathroom with WC, wash basin and shower.
The property is situated on a typical north east of England terraced street. It’s in a residential area superbly located just a couple of minutes’ walk from Bishop Auckland town centre. But even closer than that is the newsagent just across the road, where you can pick up milk, snacks and newspapers. If you need to do a bigger shop, the nearest large supermarket is less than five minutes walk away. Business visitors/contractors will enjoy how the property’s location gives you easy access by road to various big towns and cities in the region, including Durham, Middlesbrough and Sunderland. Those in the area for sightseeing will enjoy having all the following and more within easy reach: Kynren (within walking distance of the property) Durham (20 min drive) Auckland Castle (12 min walk) The National Railway Museum at Shildon (12 min drive) The Pennines (20+ min drive) Raby Castle (15 min drive) Beamish (35 min drive)
  • Lovely, modern house. Not too far a drive from Durham but also with other tourist attractions nearby. Jennifer is a great host - very helpful and responds quickly. The local area is nice and safe. Would definitely recommend!

  • Very nicely presented and equipped house.

    Helen2017-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • Bishop's Rest is an immaculately clean, modern, aesthetically pleasing, very comfortable, well-equipped, thoughtfully planned and spacious rental. Jennifer has literally thought of everything that any rental could possibly need - from toiletries to soft towels; cosy bed linen and comfortable beds; 'water speakers' and wifi/netflix/tablet and tv; powerful showers and well-equipped kitchen space. We visited with my parents and younger daughter - and it met our mixed needs perfectly. The house is centrally located - and within easy travelling for Durham and the lovely Barnard Castle. Check in was easy. Although this was a short leisure break for us - I'd be really happy renting for business travel. Facilities were as good as any reputable hotel chain - but with privacy, space and freedom you don't get with a hotel. I can fully and unreservedly recommend this rental!

    Yvonne2017-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect house with Jennifer thinking of everything that could be done to make the stay great. Would highly recommend.

This is a beautiful and quiet neighbourhood, countryside yet on easy access route to surrounding towns and lively Durham city center
  • The room was lovely and the bed big and comfortable. I had a breakfast and coffee before I went out for the day. Anjola was very helpful with any information I needed and the children were adorable

    Julia2017-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Anjola and Doug were great hosts and made me feel welcome. After a week of spending time working in Durham, I managed to get out to explore a few places and take some photos. Breakfast was prepared for me in the morning and the atmosphere was a great family feeling with the children getting ready for school. I would stay here again when I am next in Durham.

    Kevin2017-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • Friendly host. Convenient for Kynren. On kerb parking. Four friendly children which do make for a noisy household. Six family members plus guests sharing one bathroom creates a challenge . Not a good night's sleep.

  • Good communication at late notice, and great welcome even though late arrival. Just a quick stop over for us so after a lovely continental breakfast with plenty of different options we were off out. In the words of my teenage daughter the bed was 'well comfy'! Four children delightful and polite. Thanks for having us.

  • Anjola & Douglas were welcoming from the second I sent a request to stay with them... They provided me with information around Durham and where best to park. When I arrived I was greeted warmly but the whole family and shown where I would be staying. The room was lovely and the bed v. Comfortable. A truly great host!

    Rhys2017-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Convenient for public transport to Durham and with parking at the property, this is an ideal location for visiting the area. Anjola is a very welcoming and friendly host and the room is comfortable with good views from the window of the village green and church. The 4 young children in the family are boisterous but well behaved. I would definitely consider staying here again if I need accommodation in the area in the future.

  • Sometimes the overall accommodation description & location can be misleading, but not in the case of Plumtree Cottage. During our three night stay we had snowfall, which simply made an already beautiful area a stunning winter landscape, with riverside and woodland walks so memorable. The cottage has underfloor heating plus a woodburning stove, added that touch of a cosy retreat during some of the coldest days-nights of 2017. Bev is an excellent host who leaves you to get on with your stay, but living in the village can be at hand should the need arise. We'll be returing during summertime to take advantage of the open garden area, BBQ, Alfresco dining and beautiful views overlooking the River Wear.

    Geoffrey2017-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Bev's cottage is as per advertised. No nasty surprises. You will need your own transportation to get to it but the drives are just gorgeous through rolling hills and sales. The cottage was easy to find via GPS And it was so super clean and well appointed , it was better than my own home ! The kitchen was well equipped and the fridge had milk and ice and Bev prepared a basket with some essentials like cereal and cookies. Personal touches like sweets for my child and wine for me were just lovely ! Super clean sheets and towels too. Comfy beds , fabulous heating and hot water round the clock too ! The garden and surrounding fields with sheep right at your doorstep was just the icing on the cake. The River Wear in your backyard was just amazing to listen to. It was the most stress free 5 days in my life ! The proximity to the pub , the Victoria made it easy to get dinner without having to cook on holiday ! I would HIGHLY recommend Plum Tree Cottage and Bev is truly A SUPERHOST

    Karen2017-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most incredible weekend at Plum Tree Cottage!! We got ENGAGED!! We met Bev on arrival who was so lovely and couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful. We wanted to go on a walk so Bev kindly provided us with a route approximately 1.5-2hours which was really beautiful and overlooked the nearby lakes and rivers. When we got back my partner was seeing to the dog whilst I went inside and when I opened the door the entire place was filled with rose petals, candles, and a bottle of champagne in front of the burning fire. As I turned around my partner was down on one knee with my ring. It was perfect! And it couldn't have been possible without the incredible Bev who set up everything. I couldn't never thank her enough!! We had the most incredible weekend in such a beautiful and immaculate cottage! We will DEFINITELY be back!!

    Stephanie2017-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing location Amazingly comfy bed Amazing weather (luckily) Visited many places during our stay and all were within a 30 minute drive (Raby Castle, Hamsterley Forest, Hartlepool Beach, Durham Cathedral). Some really lovely restaurants to visit in Crook & Toronto which are a 5/10 min drive away. The cottage was exactly as described. Very cosy and on the one day it was windy and rainy we used the log fire. Bev was extremely helpful & friendly and although we did not use her that much we could of probably messaged her every day and it would not of been a problem. Thoroughly enjoyed my first trip to this part of the country and would do it again.

  • Plum Cottage Cottage is absolutely amazing! Our experience in the cottage was perfect from its huge gardens, the gorgeous surroundings of the countryside and River Wear to the lovely Bev who made us so very welcome throughout our stay. The cottage is finished to a very high standard from the incredibly comfortable king size bed, the relaxing living area - with cosy wood burner! - and dining area in the kitchen to enjoy meals whilst watching the sheep in the neighbouring farm! Bev leaves no stone unturned in ensuring her guests have all they need during visits. On arrival we enjoyed Belgian chocolates and wine to help us settle in and also and miniature picnic basket of goodies to get us by including breakfast treats and flavoursome tea! The kitchen is also fully equipped with everything you need including all glass and tableware, cutlery and utensils to really make you feel at home. We were luckily to have sunny weather during our stay which meant we made use of Bevs bbq on the patio overlooking the river - so gorgeous! By the way, using the bbq is a doddle as Bev has all coal and firelighters provided under the stairs - again, such a thoughtful and caring host. What's more, Plum Tree Cottage is dog friendly! Bev made our furry friend, Eric, just as welcome as the rest of us with welcome treats and biscuits of his own and also towels and bowls to use! The location of the cottage is also perfect. Situated in the village of Witton le Wear we spent a couple of evenings in the local pub (The Victoria) which is a short walk away. We also visited tourism attractions such a Hamsterley Forrest, Blackhall Rocks beach and the Highforce Waterfall which are all within driving distance. Do not hesitate to book this gorgeous property! We will certainly be back! Already missing the soothing sound of the river in the morning... Thank you, Bev. Lesley, Martyn and Eric

  • Plum Tree Cottage was absolutely amazing. The cottage itself had everything we needed and was also decorated very nicely! The surroundings were also beautiful and it was lovely being able to hear the river from the bedroom. Bev was absolutely brilliant too - very friendly and helpful. We had our 18 month year old son and our dog with us, which Bev went out of her way to accommodate and make us all feel welcome. Thanks so much for having us, we loved it.

    Faye2016-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • Everything about this place is perfect. It's totally private and surrounded by gorgeous views of the river, fields and rolling countryside. The garden is huge and the burbling of the River Wear which passes right by the cottage is wonderfully relaxing. Bev, the owner is delightful, a welcoming, kind and thoughtful host who has really thought of everything you might need and more. So many comforts and treats were found, from the to-die-for welcome truffles and wine to a booty box of essentials, and a great range of DVDs, books and games to keep you entertained. The property is furnished to an incredibly high standard, there are so many pretty details, from the flowers to the cute crystal doorknobs to the linen... The living space is cosy with a wood burner and Bev has provided everything you need to get it going. The wetroom is fantastic, the bedroom has a humungous and very comfortable bed, and there is tons of cupboard space so you can really make yourself at home. Outside there is a proper BBQ and plenty of charcoal. It's so lovely to sit outside with a bottle of wine and some tasty food and watch the river. Most importantly in my opinion, I have to say our huge Irish Wolfhound puppy was welcomed with open arms by Bev who clearly adores dogs. Bev even gave him a welcome salmon skin treat and a box of biccies, plus bowls, towels and a feeding trowel! This is what I mean when I say Bev has thought of EVERYTHING! He had a great time running around and could sleep comfortably and safely in the hallway. The location is perfect for exploring the beaches, castles, and beautiful landscape of the North East, and of course the cathedral. Bev is on hand to offer advice and has provided all the information you may need on the local attractions and amenities, and there is wifi should you need to get online. Don't hesitate to book - although a warning... you may find it TOO nice!

    Amy2016-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • As a pair of newly weds who work thousands of miles apart, this was our first trip away since the big day to celebrate the wife's birthday. From the moment we met Bev and walked into Plum Tree Cottage we knew we had made the right choice. The property is immaculate and perfectly located for a weekend away in the countryside. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a peaceful retreat within beautiful surroundings.

We really enjoyed being there and I highly recommend this place, if you are an animal lover. The area is very quiet and relaxing, it was a shame that we could only be there for one day!

  • Lovely friendly welcome from Jane and her pawjuss little doggies (Twig and Tarka). Beautiful countryside - & fab house and home, with magnificent views, from the decking area in her large garden & paddocks. Local pub not far away - which does great beer - (food, not so much) plus scenic views. . Sainsbury's also down the hill from her home. Jane is just amazing, great to chat with & made us both feel very at ease, with our puppy (6mths old). If you like horses, this is the place to visit, as she has two gorgeous beauties. DIY light breakfast, which is how we like it. THANKS Jane for a great stay and look forward to our next visit with you ''all'' . . :-) ;-)

  • I was working in Durham and Jane's place was a perfect place to stay. I wasn't expecting it to be so beautifully quiet and right in the countryside. The views at the back of the house are lovely, I watched the horses whilst having some breakfast. The bedroom was really warm and the bed comfortable. Jane is a lovely host and although she is busy in the morning with her horses, she had time to sit and talk for sometime. She does have two lovely friendly dogs. I would highly recommend staying here specially if you are visiting Durham. Thanks again Jane for your hospitality I am sure you will be a very busy host!

  • could not attend so sister and partner went with his little boy. they commented on how welcoming the place was and thoroughly enjoyed their time there. communication prior to arriving was also supèrb.

  • We were only staying one night to go to Kynren (spectacular!) on our way up to Northumberland. Monument cottage is very cute and cosy. Karen provided some welcome little extras.

    Ruth2018-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • Monument Cottage exceeded our expectations and was very good value. Karen was very helpfull and assisted with local information which was invaluable. We would recommend the cottage and will return when we are next in the area.

  • A superb character property. Comfortable, clean and cosy. We loved the way this cottage has been done out with many period features and yet modern luxuries. The bedroom is so comfortable and the bathroom spacious. There's a charming little seating area outside at the back that catches the morning sun and a fenced front garden. Great to have somewhere to park off road. Worth noting there is no microwave.

    Linda2018-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • The cutest little cottage. So glad we opted for this instead of a hotel! Comfy bed, gorgeous bathroom and kitchen. Could quite happily live here with only the chickens for neighbours. Hopefully we will be back in the summer :)

    Liz2018-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • Just right for what we needed. Compact, clean and cosy. We didnt have time to explore the area as just a stopover.

    Christine2018-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • We only booked one night to stay after Kynren (which was just amazing)but the cottage is utterly idyllic and would have happily stayed all week. Its phenomenal value for money.

Double room New built house in a quiet and friendly environment. All bills included , short or long term lets considered. Family cooked meals also provide with a reasonable price upon request.
Guests Like to stay in my House because it's close to The Business School, Ustinov, JB College, Botanic Garden and PR 2 (Park and Ride Howlands). Besides, it's a brand new House and it's very spacious and clean. Guests also like that we offer breakfast and professional Chinese meals with a small charge.
The Neighbourhood around here is very friendly and helpful. Most of them are professionals.
  • Great place and a very nice family. A bit further from the city center but with good paths.

No need to go into the details of the stay because it was all perfectly checked (gorgeous house/brandnew/neighbourhood so calm/Sam has always your back/Breakfast & Dinner at very affordable price). A wonderful feeling of doing business with your Mama. Xx thx Sam. Thx Alan. Thx Ch.

  • Lovely clean house in a safe area with very kind hosts. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean and well-kept. Not convinced by the price of £2.50 for a breakfast of tea and toast but appreciated it being an option anyway.

  • The house is beautiful and new, and the room was tidy, clean and comfortable. The hosts are very nice and friendly, and also offered to cook delicious meals. They didn't hesitate to come find me on a cold night when I got lost. A perfect place and would definitely stay again if I am in Durham!

Fern Cottage, is a two bedroom historical cottage with lots of original features situated in a charming attractive quiet village 15 minutes from Bishop Auckland 18 miles from Durham,8.5 miles from Barnard Castle and ideal for Kynren. Cosy with two double bedrooms, breakfast pack with necessities and linens provided.
Full private use of this historical quirky traditional two bedroom cottage and garden
Cockfield is a small village with two pubs, the cottage is next door to a traditional butchers shop which also has a bakery which produces fresh bread. All the delicious pies are baked on the premises, they also sell local grown vegetables. There are also a couple of local shops in the village. The cottage is surrounded by Cockfield Fell with lots of walks.
  • As the profile, very cosy and homely. Lovely little touches like milk, crumpets, jam and butter already in the kitchen. Fire going to warm the living room, it was spotless and as I only gave 24 hours notice. Utterly splendid. Thank you for a great Airbnb experience

    David2018-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful cottage in a gorgeous village. The owners were really helpful and welcoming, meeting us on arrival and happy for us to contact them with questions over the weekend. Top stay!

    Eleanor2017-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely cottage in a small village just outside barnard castle. The directions given from the hosts were easy to follow. There are 2 pubs and a newsagent in the village but the pubs don't do food we can recommend the sun inn a couple of miles down the road - amazing

    Joanne2017-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great little cottage for a trip up to Durham and the surrounding areas. Easy drive into Durham city centre itself so a great base to go exploring from. The cottage is really well laid out, clean, tidy and has everything that you need. The log burner in the lounge is a great addition for some extra warmth and very satisfying to have a real fire going! Great garden to the rear which with good weather would be lovely for eating al fresco. David was an excellent host, no complaints at all and would definitely recommend!

    David2017-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I stayed at Fern Cottage for my birthday weekend break and it was everything we expected. The cottage is warm comfortable and has all things needed to make it a home from home. There are local amenities within short walking distance i.e shops, pubs, take away and transport and if you want to sit down and eat then you only need to drive a few miles in any direction to find somewhere of your liking. If you want history or sites of wonder then we recommend a trip to High Force to see a natural stunning waterfall wonder. Or if shopping your thing then a short drive to Bishop Auckland retail park shall feed your shopping tastes. The hosts of Fern cottage are very obliging and attentive to any question you have while leaving you to enjoy your time in their property. Take a trip to this part of England. The surrounding countryside is outstanding and Fern Cottage a perfect base to see it from. We recommend this property wholeheartedly.

  • This is a lovely well presented cottage in the centre of the village. It has everything you need with lots of information and the hosts were easy to contact. It has been recently refurbished and is spotlessly clean. A fabulous fire / stove to keep toasty warm in winter.

  • Although only staying for a night we had a lovely stay. The cottage is beautifully decorated and has all the facilities for a longer term in a desirable location. Communication both before and after was first class and I would recommend the cottage. Many thanks Emma and family

  • It was amazing. I never expected anything like this in just b&b. Everything was much cozier and nices then even on pictures! They have big rooms, big kitchen, coziest living room, everything is clean and feeling like home. Paul gave me a bike, so that I can travel easily across the neighborhood and even drove me on his own terrific Jaguar, when I needed to get somewhere and it was to late/ dark or anything, so that I don't take an expensive taxi. He even brough me and my friends to the airport in Newcastle for half of a taxi price! They are an amazing hospitable and caring family, please enjoy your stay at Whistle Stop! :)

Beautiful country setting, all the most modern interior comforts, heated floors and towel racks, fully stocked kitchen, sheep in the backyard, magnificent wood burning stove. Ang & Geoff were amazing hosts and this is a perfect location. For business, holiday, or any need in country Durham, this place is a beauty!

  • The barn conversion is done to a very high standard with underfloor heating and a log burner which makes it nice and cosy. It is beautifully furnished, very well equipped and is a delightful place to stay. It is situated in a peaceful location, only 15 minutes walk to the local pub and 25 minutes drive to Durham. The owner, Ang, is very welcoming and helpful.

    Phil2016-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • This place is magical. It is close enough to Durham but more or less in the middle of nowhere. The high standard, cleanliness and small details about cottage were exceptional. From egyptian cotton bedding and towels to underfloor heating to a lovely welcome package in the kitchen we could have not been made more welcome or comfortable. Ang ensured that we were always taken care off and due to the weather there was nothing better than to sit at the fire nursing a glass of wine. Thank you so much for the stay.

  • This was the first time we’d used Airbnb and this wonderful find has set the bar high for any other places we stay at. Ang is an amazing host, her home is beautiful and the attention to detail is outstanding. Ang doesn’t only consider her human guests she also considers the needs of her furry guests. We would definitely recommend this property!

  • Ang had worked so hard to set up this lovely cottage. Everything one needed was on hand. The fire was laid in the wood burner there was milk and bread. The cleanliness was exceptional. Anyone staying here will experience great value for money and warm hospitality. As well as being well informed in what is happening locally as Ang has organised a wealth of information. Five star!

  • Paul’s house is absolutely great and a fantastic place to stay. Paul welcomed us and showed us around the place, where everything was and showed us to a glorious room. We knew this was a place for a cosy night’s sleep and we were right - at night there is no sound at all outside and we slept extremely comfortably. He gave us some good advice about the local area, where to eat and some highlights such as Escomb Saxon Church, Auckland Castle and Binchester Roman Fort. We were actually staying here for the Kynren show that night but managed to fit in all of Paul’s recommendations aswell. He also provides a bedside spec sheet of everything we needed to know about the house, how to operate the TV, where to eat etc. One highlight is Paul’s two Patterdale Terriers - Jasper and Paddy who are both gorgeous and extremely obedience little dogs. We had the pleasure of putting them to bed that night and playing with them in the morning. We didn’t want to leave after such a nice weekend and unbroken sleep. For breakfast, you must try Broom Mill Farm which serves up a huge cooked breakfast from their farm. it is about 2 miles away near West Auckland and to find it, follow the signs. They also are legendary for their Sunday lunches but our breakfast held us for all day. We would thoroughly recommend this place for any number of nights. Thanks Paul.

    Lee And Jayne2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Paul's. We were up in Bishop Auckland for the Kynren, so it was in the perfect location for it. The house is lovely and the room really spacious. We absolutely loved his dogs, Jasper & Paddy. Paul also recommended some great places to eat. Overall, perfect hosting!

    Rebecca2016-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Paul did everything possible to feel us welcome, including arranging our car rental, car return and dropped us at the train station! i also could watch the EU football matches on his great TV surround system, and he remained very dign, in spite of England poor performance :) his two doggies Paddy and Jasper are extremely civilized and a must meet! Overall decoration in purple (aubergine) was exquisite. kitchen is very well equipped, but we did not use it as we visited plenty nice places around in such nice and welcoming Durham COunty. Kudos all around. last but not least, it is 5 miles away from soon to be famous Kynren epic tale of England by (Website hidden by Airbnb) book it now!

  • We had a fantastic 1 night stay with Paul. The house is beautiful and Paul is very welcoming into his home. His 2 dogs Paddy and Jasper are wonderful and its hard not to fall in love with them (even just being there for 24hrs). Would definitely recommend and will be staying again if back in the area.

    Ben2016-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderfully refurbished house with great views over farmland. Paul is a very relaxed host who is happy to share his house with all its facilities. We were made to feel very much at home. Thank you Paul. We found the property a little difficult to find. The postcode seems to cover both sides of the road so we were looking on the wrong side...!! That's too much reliance on (Hidden by Airbnb) Maps !! Unfortunately the easy to spot monkey puzzle tree is no longer there courtesy of a storm !!

    Steven2017-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • Paul made us feel incredibly welcome in his spacious house, and his two delightful dogs did as well. The kitchen is huge and well equipped with one of these mega cookers, and the bedroom is large and very comfortable with a sofa as well. There is a pleasant walk to do along an old railway line from the house which we did. The location is fantastic if you want to do a day's sight seeing en route to Scotland, or visiting your own children at Durham University. Only 2 miles down the road is one of the oldest complete Saxon churches in the UK (Escomb). Not too many miles further, near Barnard Castle, are the abbey ruins of Egglestone, and there are two spectacular castles -Raby and Bishop Auckland. If you are interested in art, there are 12 paintings by Zurbaran in the Auckland Palace, and an incredible wood carving in the chapel (largest private chapel in the UK). If you like shopping the retail park at St Helens Auckland offers TKMAXX, Next, M+S, Lidl, Poundland etc all within 2 miles. If you want outstanding scenery the northern Pennines are undiscovered and beautiful. Altogether this area of County Durham has amazing riches- plenty to discover.

  • Great house with plenty of space. Paul and his 2 Patterdale terriers, Jasper and Paddy make excellent hosts. The bedroom is well presented with a view over the fields. Although near the road, there isn't any traffic noise. Although advertised as a room in the house, we had a sitting room with huge tv and a choice of 2 bathrooms. Excellent value for money and for visiting the area.

  • Large, comfy home- great living room, with 3 chill-out sofas. Big TV, good wifi. Board games and DVDS available. Lots of info brochures, host v quick to respond to our queries.

  • We had a great time at Andy’s house. It is ideally located for exploring Durham and the surrounding area, although it was hard to get the children (1 and 3) out as they loved playing there. The house was perfectly equipped for a family with small children.

    Charlotte2018-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • We were visiting for a family wedding and this was the perfect location and size for all of us - 5 adults and a baby. The area is lovely and quiet during the day with only a small amount of noise on a Saturday night from the pub next door. And with 3 bathrooms it was really easy for all of us to get ready in time for the wedding, without having to queue or have a rota!! Andy was always prompt and helpful. Would recommend.

Our mission is to make your stay an affordable home from home. Clean and comfortable. You get the entire 3 bedroom house all to yourself. Sleep up to 5. Ideal for the whole family. 5 minute walk to Aycliffe town centre and a short walk or drive to Aycliffe Industrial Estate. A large 24 hour Tescos is a 10 minute walk way.
Affordable and extremely comfortable. With everything you have a home, TV's in all the bedrooms and a smart TV in the lounge. With a PlayStation to keep the kids quiet.
103 Bewick is based in Newton Aycliffe, in a quiet area, mostly home owners and retired or working families. Its not really a party area so we'd really appreciate well behaved guests who are considerate of the neighbours. Thank you.
  • Matt and Sarah's place was a delight to stay in, within a quiet residential area which was very close to local amenities and a few good play parks. The house itself was immaculate and looked like it had never been stayed in before. They had all amenities you could think of, even including biscuits in the cupboard which got a big tick from me! The beds were very comfy and it felt like a home from home. They were easily contactable and were very flexible with check in and out times which was much appreciated. We will be staying here again I'm sure. Sam

Ideally situated for walking, cycling and fishing. A wonderful area for good food having a Michelin stared restaurant within 2 miles and several very fine restaurants within 10 miles. Beautifully appointed, this cosy cottage has bags of character and many original features. Nearby there are many places of interest to visit such as Raby Castle; The Seat of Lord Barnard, Shildon National Railway Museum which is an offshoot of York National Railway Museum and the village of Piercebridge with its Roman remains. The area is Ideal for exploring. A mere 30-minute drive North is the City of Durham with its famous Cathedral and Castle, both of which are steeped in history. A little further north is Beamish, the living museum of the North; a must-see attraction for all visitors to the area. To the west are the Pennines, Bowes Museum which recently housed the much acclaimed Yves Saint Laurent Exhibition and High Force, a stunning 70ft waterfall making it Britains highest uninterrupted drop of water. To the south is the Georgian Market town of Richmond with The Green Howard Museum, Richmond Castle and the fascinating Station with unique artisan pop-up stalls and shops, a great little cinema, and beautiful riverside walk.
  • Wonderful welcome when we arrived - warm, and friendly. (And a very thoughtful welcome pack of wine, fresh bread, jam, coffee, eggs awaited in the well-appointed kitchen.) We absolutely loved our stay - very quiet location, very comfortable bed and living area, and good walking in the area. Ros went out of her way to wash and dry our clothes, and drop off walking maps. We'd highly recommend this to other couples looking for a country retreat.

  • My wife and I throughly enjoyed our stay in the cottage behind the Old Vicarage. We had an enthusiastic welcome and a wonderful welcome back that truly exceeded our expectations. The furnishing suited the building and we had plenty of space. Although a little isolated in a small village, it was still close to the places we wanted to visit. You could use it as a base for sightseeing or simply a place to chill out for a weekend or longer. Very happy to be the first to review for AirBnB and would give it 10 out of 10 if we had to give it a score.

  • Old Vicarage is a really nice place if you are aiming for a relaxing time. The house is nicely furnished, with a lot of beautiful details. The garden is fantastic with all the flowers, for just viewing or having a dinner for two outside the house. Roz is a great host and we felt welcome at all times. Highly recommended!

  • We received a very warm welcome with a fabulous welcome pack...more than enough to see us through! A wonderful start to a lovely long weekend. The cottage is full of charm and very well appointed. It is incredibly relaxing in a rural setting....lovely to wake to bird song and not traffic. It is well located for walking and exploring but with market towns and cities a short drive away. A beautiful, cosy hide away. We will definitely be back!

You are welcome to our spacious sunny bedroom and private bathroom in a stone built barn conversion with large garden. We overlook the green in a pretty village which is convenient for Durham City and the University. There is an excellent local pub and restaurant in walking distance and many more within a short car journey. Visit the wonderful Durham Cathedral, have a riverside walk in the town, or explore the beautiful countryside of Teesdale, Weardale and Northumberland from this location.
We look forward to all our guests coming into our home, which we built ourselves from what was left of an old barn in the year 2000. The room to rent is a large, sunny upstairs room with a king size double bed. Also in an adjoining room there is a bed settee which could be used for an accompanying child or one extra guest. The bathroom, which is along the landing, has a bath with an electric shower over and this floor is usually only used by our guests. We have central heating and an open fire in the lounge in the winter, while during the summer there is a patio and large garden which guests are welcome to share.
Here in Tudhoe we are conveniently located for Durham City while Gateshead and Newcastle upon Tyne are only about a 30 - 40 minute drive away. Also the beautiful Upper Weardale and Teesdale valleys are both within a 35 minute car journey, Northumberland is a little further to the North, but near enough for a day trip. Also, from the house there are some pleasant walks through local woods and along the riverside.

  • This is a lovely place in a quiet scenic village on the edge of Spennymoor, just a 2 minute walk from an 18th century pub that serves good food. It is also just a short drive from Durham (about 5 miles). Brenda was a lovely host and met is with tea and fresh scones. Our room was well-appointed and we had an adjacent sitting room. Very highly recommended.

  • Samantha and Alan's home is a great place to stay for a night or a few nights. They are very warm, kind, considerate and welcoming as hosts, who give you space but also happy to socialise with you over a hot drink which they kindly provide, and also willing to provide meals if requested. The property is very big, spacious, newly built and very clean in all rooms with a bathroom I had all to myself. Great quiet location right next to Durham centre and the university. Couldn't have asked for anything better, with a very reasonable price. Looking forward to staying again.

The family are extremely caring and offer extra services like a taxi service and meals- both breakfast and dinner (all cooked to perfection). I'd definitely recommend this house to anyone staying in Durham, specifically students- it's a great value for money.

  • Good communication beforehand, pretty rural location. Some nice welcoming touches such as some breakfast essentials. Althouh clean, decor could do with a refresh. Also please note there is no WiFi in the property and 4g signal is patchy. Sadly we got locked in and couldn't get hold of host for some time, so were fortunate that a neighbour was able to let us out. Ok as a base if you're out most of the day but less so as a place to relax in as such.

    Ayesha2018-05-20T00:00:00Z

  • Samantha and Alan were amazing and I felt as if I was home and taken care by my parents. The room was more than I expected and very spacious and clean. The food was beyond my expectations and I really enjoyed the talks I had with Auntie Sam and Uncle Alan. The dinner is a must, I definitely recommend it and every night I had the chance to eat different types of dishes! I will really miss my UK mom and Dad! I will be coming back for my graduation in June! All in all I definitely recommend this place, and it is the best place I have stayed in during my three years in Durham from College accommodation, elvet studios, to a house apartment in Meadowfield. I really enjoyed my time in and got the chance to be pampered and well taken care of. Also as a side comment a guy named Orry recently commented and said that they dropped their kid to school! Firstly I am not their kid and I was a customer just as he was and the train rides are clearly £ 5 not 7. In summary, this is the best experience I have had on Airbnb and will be coming back again :))
