Be under no illusion this is like camping under a wooden roof . Boatel guests share the boat roofed shed with other guests and residents and no one has exclusivity on this structure. The boat is old and dusty with the occasional spider. An unusual/ quirky experience!! The views are stunning Sorry no dogs Want to see shed of the year 2013 winner?? its now on channel 4 demand . amazing spaces shed of the year first series episode 3 final 59355-003
Set in an acre of wild flowers and up a mountain . The Space Set in the beautiful Dyfi Valley Biosphere the Boatel is literally a bed in a boat! Not to mention a beautiful open plan cooking and living space – all in a shed AKA the Boat Roofed Shed. Recognised for its amazing and unique qualities, it even won the infamous Cuprinol’s Shed of the Year in 2013. It’s our absolute pride and joy and we love sharing it with our guests! We’ve hosted comedy festivals, exclusive concerts and curious tourists in our little mountain hideaway and Alex (aka DJ Badly) even uses it to prepare his sets for festivals such as Glastonbury. We built the shed in 2012 using recycled materials and it was our first major project. Alex is normally a rubbish DIY person, so designing and building the whole thing ourselves was a great achievement and we couldn’t have been happier to win both the ‘Cuprinol Shed of the Year’ Unique Category and the Overall category in 2013. From the shed you can see across Cader Idris (part of the Cambrian Mountains of Snowdonia). It’s so beautiful even in the maddest of weathers, you can close the door, light the candles ,pop some kindling in the wood burner and be snug and warm in moments. Our guests all love staying in the Boatel - they love the peace, the location, the structure, the ambience, and the curios (Alex is a big collector and has been on antiques roadshow with his Poole Pottery collection!). As well as the relentless throwing of Frisbees for the dogs!
We live in the dyfi valley biosphere and we are very committed environmentalists. There are a lot of fantastic Visitor attractions in the area, particularly the Centre of Alternative Technology, Talyllyn Railways and of course Cader Idris – which is part of the Cambrian Mountains of Snowdonia which can be seen from the boat roofed shed!
  • You get what it says on the tin, very rural peaceful surrounding, great countryside experience! Bonus, a comfy bed and it wasn't too cold with the heater in the boat! Not for the faint hearted if you're afraid of spiders (like me) I just avoided the kitchen area! Good character building experience!

  • Sarah and Alex are a great couple and we had a wonderful time staying at the Boatel. The shed was awesome and we had fun playing music inside. Listening to the rain fall inside the warm, cozy Boatel was also very peaceful and relaxing. Wish we could have stayed for longer! Tell the dogs we're sorry we were still asleep when they came up to play!

  • Very unique location, environmentally-friendly, ideal to relax and find back to basics, great view from the hill, at night you can view the starlit sky, Sarah and Alex were very helpful hosts, we expecially enjoyed Alex's humour.

  • We had an amazing time at Boatel... I am so glad I came across it on Air BnB! A total and complete treasure. Really wonderful location and an amazing escape from the bustle of London. We are hearty travelers and I surprised my boyfriend with the trip (he's really into sheds!) and he was absolutely charmed by the space. Sarah was incredibly friendly and welcoming, as were the dogs and cats. The kitchen was perfect for easy cooking (eggs, pasta, reheating a curry, etc) and the bed incredibly comfortable. Wonderful views. The outhouse was easy to navigate (and very cute) although we chose to use the indoor shower which was a welcomed asset. We are already whether we will be able to find time next year to visit again...

  • Excellent accommodation, brilliant hosts and an amazing view. Well worth the stay and will definitely visit again. Thank you!

  • Thee most unique and interesting place I have ever stayed! We booked the boatel for a very last minute trip to Wales and Alex was so good with giving directions and very accommodating considering our very late arrival! Loved sitting by the fire in the boat roofed shed and waking up to the amazing views each morning (also a v. comfortable bed!!!). Would definitely stay again :)

  • Sarah and her family were lovely and welcoming. They went above and beyond to accommodate us and were extremely friendly people. I stayed here with my boyfriend where we had the most amazing time staying in the Welsh hills. It is very quaint and an amazing experience for anyone who has an adventurous side!

  • Firstly, fantastic and very friendly communication from the instant we requested to book right up until we left this magical place after our one night stay. After the most picturesque drive to the mountains of Wales we found the track leading up to Sarah and Alexs' farm. The track is narrow and steep in places but really adds to the remote and secluded feeling that is priceless and inevitable with this stay. Greeted at the wonderful farmhouse by Sarah, Alex and the three most friendly doggies we were guided around their abode and introduced to our accommodation for the evening. Wow! If you are looking for quirky, unique and unusual look no further. The winner of the Shed of the year 2013 was to be our retreat and was the most delightful, romantic and eclectic place we have visited so far. A boat, set in the hillside, with a very comfortable double bed, our sleeping quarters. Very, very special. After what was a very easy conversation with both of our hosts we were encouraged to light a fire and have a wander around. There was a compost loo, and a shower but as rain was forecast that evening Sarah didn't hesitate to offer these same facilities in her own home should the elements get the better of us. She had even made up a bedroom in the farmhouse should we need it. We didn't need it. The storm held off until bedtime where it then provided a perfect end to a wonderful chilled out day. Raining hard on the boat roof, cabin doors open taking in the outstanding views, snuggled under the duvet. Just perfect. There is everything you need here. Table and chairs, fire, music system, candles, proper bed, plug sockets, water, sheepskins and blankets for the evening, not to mention the breathtaking location and scenery. A few delightful added extras... Three new gorgeous super friendly mates that just wanted to play and chill with us for the day, two cats, a handful of chickens and their eggs, an abundance of sheep and superb hosts that really have the perfect mix of helpful friendliness and 'leave you to it' qualities that really did make our stay unforgettable. Perfect, perfect, perfect. Thankyou. Book now without hesitation. Ali and David. Xxx

Isfryn is a self-contained property in the beautiful Dyfi valley sleeping 2 adults. It adjoins the former Hebron chapel, which is now our home. Fully renovated in March 2016 it features new a bathroom & kitchen & a double sided wood burning stove.
A very warm welcome to Isfryn from your hosts Steve and Linda. Isfryn (which means ‘under the hill’ in Welsh) forms a completely self-contained property, separated by 3ft thick walls of slate from Ty Hebron, the adjoining former Methodist chapel, which is now our home. Isfryn was built in the 1870s as a home for the chapel minister. We bought it in June 2015, when it was in a neglected state. It was fully renovated over the following 6 months and opened for visitors in Spring 2016. Renovating this cottage has been a very happy experience, which we hope is reflected in its cheerful and welcoming interior. It offers cosy and comfortable accommodation for two adults. To make you feel at home from the moment you arrive, you will be greeted by a welcome basket of goodies, many of which will be home-made by us. Having fully explored that, you can explore the rest of the cottage… In the living room, the most prominent feature is an open hearth with hearth stones of beautiful local slate, which connects this room with the dining room beyond. It contains a double sided wood burner, so you don’t need to leave your warm and cosy fire behind when you go to eat at the table! The living room has two comfortable two seater sofas, satellite TV, free WiFi (we have high speed fibre optic broadband), DVD player, a selection of DVDs and well stocked book shelves. In the bureau, you will find a variety of games, so in the event of inclement weather, you can settle comfortably indoors and be well entertained. As with the rest of the house, the walls are decorated with original prints, many by local artists. In the living room, you will find two USB charging sockets so that you can conveniently charge up any electronic items. The dining room furniture, which dates from the mid 1800s, was bought by Linda with money left to her by her grandmother and was used in her own house for many years. We are delighted to share it with you now and hope you enjoy the presence of furniture appropriate to the age of the cottage. The table comfortably seats four adults. If you like music to dine by, you will find a CD player and a variety of CDs on the buffet stand. We have tried to make maximum use of the space in Isfryn to offer you everything you need for your holiday. In this spirit, in the cupboard under the stairs you will find a washer/dryer, washing liquid and fabric conditioner, a table top dishwasher, dishwashing tablets, an iron and a table top ironing board. The newly fitted kitchen has an induction hob, electric oven, microwave, fridge with a small freezer compartment and a kettle. You’ll find the basics like sugar, cooking oil, salt and pepper, cling film and foil waiting for you. (Tea and coffee as well as some fresh milk and butter will be provided in your welcome pack.) A rear porch completes the ground floor and offers coat hooks and a boot rack for muddy or wet footwear. Upstairs, the bedroom contains a super-comfy, super-king sized bed which can be converted to twin beds if desired. There is a charming, up-cycled wardrobe dating from the era when it was felt useful to have shelves labelled to tell you where to keep your socks and underwear! In the bedside table drawers, you will find a hairdryer, and a cooling mat in case you bring your straighteners. There is another well-stocked book shelf to make sure you can read yourself into a peaceful sleep. The large landing is set up as an additional sitting room. Yet another bookshelf ensures that passing comfortable afternoons curled up on the day bed lost in a good book, or reading yourself into a comfortable doze is also an option here. The newly fitted bathroom has a large, walk in shower with both drench and hand held shower heads, a toilet, a heated towel rail, an illuminated mirror with shaving point and a magnifying mirror. You will find basics such as cotton wool, cotton buds and tissues provided for you. We provide all bed linen, a choice of pillows, towels, tea towels and waffle-weave bathrobes for your comfort. All utilities are included. We provide you with two baskets of logs for the wood burner and you will be able to purchase further bags from us if you need them. Your welcome pack will include some lovely things to get you started, but you can easily stock up on the essentials nearby.
Isfryn is on the southern border of the Snowdonia National Park in the village of Aberangell, right in the heart of the Dyfi Valley in beautiful Mid Wales. ‘Aberangell’ translates as ‘The mouth of the Angel’ and the village is where the River Angell merges with the Dyfi. UNESCO awarded the Dyfi Valley Biosphere Status in 2009 in recognition of the unique and wonderful combination of its environment, wildlife, people, language, history and culture. Five minutes’ drive away and just up the hill from the Brigands Inn is the local garage, shop and cafe. It stocks many of the essentials such as newspapers, bread, milk, a range of canned, chilled, frozen and household goods as well as confectionery. It is also licensed. If you’d like someone else to be responsible for your breakfast, they serve the full monty and a range of other foods and drinks at the adjoining cafe all day. For more substantial stocking up, Machynlleth (10 miles) has two large Co-Ops and a small Spar, plus a range of other shops including two bakeries, and the Wednesday street market is great for for fresh produce and baked goods. In the opposite direction, Dolgellau (12 miles) has a reasonably large Co-Op and a large EuroSpar as well as lots of local shops and cafes. It is the perfect area for anyone who enjoys the outdoors, with the beautiful Aran and Cambrian Mountains just down the road, and Pumlumon and Cadair Idris within easy reach. The spectacular high peaks of Northern Snowdonia are just an hour’s drive away. There are walks that you can take straight out of the door, or if you’d like some guidance in exploring nearby or further afield, Steve works as a qualified Mountain Leader and you can book him to take you out on guided walks that suit your wishes and stamina levels! If you love bird watching, there is plenty to see in this area, with Red Kites and Buzzards frequently seen overhead and a multitude of smaller birds. The Red Kite Centre at Bwlch Nant yr Arian and The RSPB Nature Reserve of Ynys Hir are less than half an hour away and the award-winning Dyfi Osprey Project is just twenty minutes down the road. If you fancy getting away from it all try visiting Glaslyn reserve. There is a huge variety of wildlife in the area and more ideas on where and how to see it can be found at (URL HIDDEN) There is a huge choice of stunning walks out of the door or a short drive away from Isfryn. Cader Idris, at 893m, is the most well known of the local mountains, about 25 minutes’ drive away. Less well known is the Aran range, which is actually slightly taller than Cader; an ascent of Aran Fawddwy or a traverse of the entire Aran ridge from Cwm Cywarch (about 15 minutes drive away) is a fantastic day out and has the benefit of a great pub at beginning and end. About 30 minutes North of Isfryn the Rhinogs are a little known gem of an area with a huge number of hills and waterfalls to explore and to the South is the Plynlimon range (or Pumlumon as we’d have it here). Snowdon itself is just under an hour away. Directly from the cottage there are options for anything from 5-20 minute pre-dinner strolls along the lane or up Pen y Clipiau to take in some views of the Dyfi valley, half day rambles beside the local rivers or exploring abandoned slate mines to full days out in the local hills. We’re also on the long-distance Dyfi Valley Way. Isfryn is well supplied with walking guides and a local OS map which you’re welcome to borrow. We’re very happy to provide suggestions too. Mountain Biking Mountain biking is a favourite local pastime and there are miles of forest tracks in the hills behind Aberangell that you can access from our front door. The the famous Coed Y Brenin trails are within easy reach, as are the Machynlleth Bike trails. You can check out an overview of the area’s biking here. For keen anglers, the Dyfi is famous for its salmon, brown trout and sea trout. Day tickets and season tickets are available. For golfers, the website 100 Best Golf Courses in the World lists the historic and scenic courses available at Llandrindod Wells, Cradoc, Welshpool, Builth Wells and Machynlleth as the best in the region. There are also championship links courses at Borth, Harlech and Aberdovey. If rock climbing is your passion Snowdonia is possibly the best, or if you fancy giving it a try, Steve is a qualified instructor and can teach or accompany you or just recommend the best places nearby. You can combine a break in the countryside with the thrill of the alps at the Llandudno Ski and Snowboard Centre, where you can ski, snowboard, toboggan and sno-tube to your heart’s content! For lots more adventure ideas, see Show Me Wales For those seeking a more chilled approach to life, the beaches in this area are beautiful. From the classic seaside towns of Aberdovey and Aberystwyth to the vast beach at Barmouth or the National Nature Reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest that is Harlech beach, with its dunes overlooked by the fourteenth century castle, there is something to suit everyone’s taste and much to discover. There is an excellent guide to the beaches of Snowdonia here. The market towns of Machynlleth and Dolgellau are both around 10 miles from Aberangell and both have much to offer. Machynlleth has a vibrant street market every Wednesday and is home to the national Museum of Modern Art, situated at Y Tabernacl and to the Owain Glyndwr Museum. Dolgellau is a quaint, stone town with the Afon Mawddach river running through it. Both have a wide range of individual shops, cafes and pubs to discover as well as having supermarkets and pharmacies. Only a short drive away from Aberangell, you will find the Corris Craft Centre offering 8 studios of locally made craft items as well as Welsh food and drink shop and a café. The site is also home to King Arthur’s Labyrinth and the highly recommended Corris Mine Explorers . Let your excellent guide Mark take you on a fascinating tour of the vast slate mine that lies inside the Corris hills. The world famous Centre for Alternative Technology can be found less than 15 minutes’ drive away. To watch the world go by in relaxing style, take one of the Great Little Trains of Wales , many of which are within easy reach of Isfryn. The mainline Arriva train services also have many scenic routes and can be a lovely and relaxed way to access local attractions. You can download a guide to exploring by train and you’ll find some in Isfryn for your use too. There is a variety of pubs within easy distances where you can relax and savour their very different characters. The nearest pub is The Brigands Inn (named after the band of red haired brigands who terrorised this area in the 1500s), just 2.5 miles down the road in the tiny hamlet of Mallwyd. Dinas Mawddwy is 3 miles away and boasts the Red Lion (Y Llew Coch in Welsh), where you can be sure of good, home cooked pub food and plenty of it! Cemmaes is the home of the Penrhos Arms and at Glantwymyn, you will find the Dovey Valley with its very sociable folk music night on the first Sunday of every month. If you fancy a trip further off the beaten track, why not visit the Tafarn Dwynant at Ceinws for a mix of pub and art gallery. For a welcome tea break from your exploring, try the Hen Siop at Dinas Mawddwy . Delicious cakes and an art gallery too, with local art for sale, and if you fancy a trim, Karen can cut your hair right next door at Siop Siswrn! If you’re in Corris, call in at Andy and Adam’s Café and shop for delicious treats or stop by for a pint at the Slaters Arms just up the street where Sophie the pub Labrador is very likely to settle down and lie on your shoes! For the ultimate end to the evening on clear nights, you don’t have to travel far out of the villages to find velvet dark skies and catch stunning views of the stars before wandering home to sink into Isfryn’s comfy beds.
  • Steve and Linda made us both feel very welcome and had made some delicious homemade treats for our arrival. We had a very short stay but they were very attentive to our needs. Isfryn cottage was beautiful and exceeded our expectations - it's in a great location, surrounded by beautiful scenery and a short drive into the depths of Snowdonia National Park. We stopped off here on our way back to Edinburgh and we would definitely stay here again, and we hope to have a longer stay next time :)

  • We had a terrific time with Linda. The accommodation was excellent and all the extras Milk, butter, homemade muesli, wholewheat loaf and lemon curd, jam and a delicious lemon cake. Linda it was too much. Thank you. The bed is really comfortable and the bathroom is very modern and user friendly. The modern kitchen is small but complete with every thing you could possible need. We had a perfect break Thank you again. Gwyn and Dave

  • The hosts Steve and Linda really make this place, they are so welcoming and accommodating and leave a great welcome hamper with lots of homemade treats! The cottage is perfect, a nice size for 4 people with everything you could need to make you feel at home. Super clean too which is always a plus. There was really nothing they hadn't though of when getting the place ready. The location is great, really peaceful but not to far from lots of great walks and only a half hour drive to Aberystwyth. We've had an amazing two nights despite the Welsh summer and will definitely visit again.

    Steve2016-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our staying in Isfrin! It was a warm welcome full of lovely attentions. We really appreciated all the self-made products, especially Steve’s bread and the amazing lime and lemon drizzle cake of Linda! The cottage was a wonderful place for us to come back, after our walks in the surrounding hills and mountains. We could sense the love Steve and Linda put in. We really appreciated the “red book” with suggestion and information for walks, pubs and things to do. It was for us the best place to leave back the stress-life of a big city like Berlin. Sometime we would like to visit again! Summing-up Cottage: cosy, spotlessly clean, very well furnished Host: kind and helpful...just perfect Area: wounderful nature (hills, mountains and beaches)

    Paola2016-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time, both the cottage & hosts exceeded our expectations.. Welcoming & generous as well as brilliant bread makers, this was a great stay, the very best of Airbnb. Isfryn Cottage was for us, an end of summer delight, but with a cozy log burner at its heart it would make a very comfortable Winter retreat too.....

    Dale2016-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most lovely stay at Isfryn Cottage! When we arrived Linda and Steve made us feel so welcome and and they had gone that extra mile of providing a scrumptious welcome basket filled with homemade bread, cake, jams and muesli which also included gluten free options as I had mentioned to them I had this dietary restriction in an email to them before we arrived. They have put in a lot of care and attention to restoring this beautiful home and they have completed it to a very high spec and with great attention to every detail. The pictures do not do it justice! The cottage is in an ideal location of being in a very quiet village but being close enough to towns if you need a shopping fix. We only had a couple days there but managed to get in a couple of amazing hikes and walks and really appreciated Steve and Linda's knowledge of the area to point us in the right directions. We highly recommend this beautiful cottage for anyone looking to explore the area. If we could of we would have wrapped up the cottage and brought it home with us!

    Jane 2016-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was perfect, and Linda's welcome pack of food included an amazing home-made lemon drizzle cake. The cottage was spotlessly clean, and beautifully decorated and equipped.

This one bedroom self-catering cottage, ideal for two persons, was fully refurbished in 2016 to provide an open plan lounge with dining area and kitchen. Adjacent to the bedroom upstairs is a very large shower room. The bedroom can be twins or a superking.
  • Sue and Paddy were very helpful, when we arrived Sue had left us eggs from their hens plus milk, jam, and Some cake which was much needed. Very clean cottage with beautiful views and a beautiful garden. We Will definitely recommend the cottage our family and friends.

  • We had a lovely stay at The Old Coach House, the cottage is beautiful and so is the location. Paddy and Sue were great hosts and nothing was too much trouble for them, would definitely recommend.

  • If you are looking to escape to the countryside, I would definitely recommend this gorgeous cottage. The setting is truly breathtaking! Paddy and Sue are both lovely hosts who are very welcoming. We didn't want to leave!

Get away from it all to the peace and tranquillity of the Dyfi valley in Mid Wales on the southern edge of Snowdonia, within easy reach of the beautiful West Wales coast beaches. The surrounding area is rural, safe and peaceful, the only sounds are of birdsong, the mountain stream and the occasional bleating of sheep on the hills behind the cottage.
Bryn Uchel Uchaf is a traditional farm cottage dating back to the 1700s. Bryn Uchel Uchaf has been in the family for over 40 years and has countless happy memories. We took on the cottage when we got married and went about renovating it, taking it right back to basics and both updating in terms of comforts but also rediscovering hidden character. We think it's the space and freedom you get here that is so unique.
Bryn Uchel Uchaf is so away from things and feels like you enter another world in many ways. However, it is only 15 minutes from Machynlleth and very close to several attractions and beaches. The immediate area is so peaceful and away from things, you can't help but unwind as the natural rhythm of life there kicks in. Sometimes we don't venture away from the immediate hillside and cottage area with open access to the mountainside on the doorstep. However there's plenty of adventurous and scenic activities nearby and especially good for families and outdoorsy types. A particular favourite is Aberdyfi beach
  • Chris and Ruth were really helpful and accommodating, and easy to get hold of beforehand to sort out the details. The cottage itself was lovely - cosy and beautifully kept. We used it as a base for visiting Snowdownia, and Cadair Idris, and also walked from the cottage on one day. Good selection of DVDs, books and videos, and a very well equipped kitchen also proved to be key elements to our holiday! Some of my friends wished for wifi whilst we were there (but I was quite glad that none was available!) However, given that phone signal was patchy at best, this could be a helpful addition for those who need to be contactable whilst away.

    Felicity2015-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • A++++++. We have spent a week in Bryn Uchel Uchaf and had a phantastic time. The collage is in very good condition. Everything is there - we could not come up with anything that would be lacking! It is remote - and that was awesome. Only the hills, trees and cows around. Very very beautiful. We were 6 adults and the cottage provides enough space for a group like this. Outside garden is great - we had all meals outside, having bonfires, having a great time. Chris and Ruth were very quick to respond to all our questions in the booking phase. Highly recommended! We will come back if we can one day!

    Lutz2014-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Bryn Uchel Uchaf... Just what we needed... A lovely house with great outdoors... The children (and I) loved playing in the babbling brook and collecting wood for the fire pit which we cooked over, a couple of nights... We took glamping to the next level! The fully equipped kitchen and snug lounge and cosy bedrooms were wonderful... Thanks for a great stay...

    Billy2016-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • The visit to the cottage has been a lovely experience. It is located far away from people, and our neighbours were cows and sheeps! Our only problem was that when we arrived the cottage was not cleaned from previous guests. When we tried to contact Ruth & Chris we couldn't as there was not phone coverage in our mobiles and it was pouring rain... The following day Chris apologised and explained the mistake and tried to sort it out the problem in the most suitable way for us. He even send us a partial refund!

    Antonio2015-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • When we first arrived we were surprised that the cottage and surroundings looks better than the picture! The instructions where very clear and we've found everything without problems. The cottage was clean and tidy on our arrival. We only only stayed at Bryn Uchel Uchaf for three nights and would advised anyone planning to stay to reserve one day for relaxing around the house and woods because it's really worth it. We're really happy we found this place and will definitely recommend it and go back one day. Mirka

  • We thoroughly enjoyed the stay. The cottage is way off the beaten track. There's loads to do on foot. The silence is wonderful. Views ditto. Ruth and Chris are great hosts. Our son forgot his headphones (his pride and joy) and they posted them on. Very grateful 11 year old boy! Would recommend.

  • Very accurate description, but the whole place is honestly even better than the description... Doesn't do it justice. It's beautiful with everything you could even need. Quaint, pretty, and relaxing with lots to do.

  • Thank you for an amazing time in your lovely cottage, perfect combination of mountain countryside, cows and sheep (kids loved that) and sea/sand dunes. The cottage is great for families, I'd highly recommend it!

Our house is in the heart of the Dovey valley, Powys, Mid Wales an area of outstanding natural beauty. We are surrounded by rugged unspoilt mountains and mountain farms. Machynlleth is 8 miles away. Aberdovey 17, Aberystwyth 26. An approach to Cadet Idris near Dolgeallau is about 13 miles from here. Aberangell is a very quiet and peaceful hamlet. Guest rooms are at the top of the house and stairs are relatively steep so not great for young children or anybody with challenged physical ability.
The space comprises of 2 rooms and a bathroom which are situated in a very private space at the top of the house. There is one double bedroom and one other room comprising of a large futon sofa bed, TV and fridge. The bathroom is for the sole use of guests however it is a few stairs down from the 2 bed/lounge areas. Unfortunately there is no access to the kitchen.
Aberangell is a very quiet village inside Snowdonia. There is one small shop/garage 1.5 miles away and a lovely hotel 'The Brigands Inn' to enjoy food. The nearest larger town Machynlleth is 7 miles away. Here you can find small town craft and antique shops and plenty of cafes.
  • Great value, very clean, friendly owner, perfect place to stay for WRC Wales Rally. Highly recommended.

Set in the heart of the welsh countryside, close to the sandy beaches of Aberdovey and Borth, Pool cottage is surrounded by a 5 acre garden in the country landscape of Wales. The Market town of Machynlleth is 10mins by car with arts & craft shops.

  • A lovely weekend away from it all, just what we were looking for!

    Shane2017-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • The listing description was most accurate except that the views and the surrounding areas were much more beautiful than expected. I'm not sure there's a way to prepare guests for the absolute beauty of the Welsh countryside and so that is not a detriment. The facilities were perfect for our needs and unlike some of the other reviews we did not have any issues with the WiFi. The hosts were flexible with arrival and worked great with us in our late comings (this was much appreciated as we had a great distance to travel in one day). We were surprised and delighted to find basic cooking needs as well (salt/pepper, oil, etc). We would most assuredly stay here again.

  • The cottage was very clean and welcoming although a little bit chilly. However wood and coal was provided for the fireplace and extra blankets were also available. Unfortunately we did not get a chance to meet the host but they did leave us a lovely note to welcome us and contact numbers should we need to reach them. The surrounding area is beautiful and there are lots of things to do to keep you entertained or just enjoy a stroll in the mountains or by the sea. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a nice relaxed break in this beautiful part of Wales.

  • Helpful communication. Great welcome from Hylene at the cottage. Beautiful surroundings, very peaceful, trees out of all the windows. The cottage is comfortable and well equipped. The stairs are a bit steep, but that didn't put us off. Two friends came over while we were there, and they liked it a lot.

The Gallery was once the barn attached to the farmhouse and the loft where the hay once was is now where the four poster bed stands. The conservatory entrance was once the entrance for the cart. Open to the ceiling it is a favorite with couples.
The Gallery is one of 5 cottages which is a barn conversion open up to the ceiling. The balcony bedroom looks down over the living area which has a multi-fuel stove. There is a conservatory with seating overlooking the garden for tea and breakfast in the morning. The cottage has open plan living room with full kitchen with full bathroom downstairs.
The Gallery is the perfect cottage for couples with an old world charm, with oak beams and floor boards. The ceiling is open to the roof which gives it a hall type feeling and the thick stones walls keep it warm in winter with the wood burning stove. The Gallery conservatory looks out onto the main lawn and is just the right spot to have some tea as you gaze down the valley. The birds will entertain you as you relax and enjoy the atmosphere.
  • Absolutely wonderful stay at the Haybarn. Really tranquil, the scenery was amazing and my only regret is booking just the 3 nights. Would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to get away from the hustle bustle of city life.

  • We rented here to see the park. This place was right in the thick of it. The pictures don't show it, but there is a kitchen. We were pleasantly surprised. Great place, beautiful grounds. It had everything we needed.

    Patrick2015-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a truly beautiful location and the garden and its views are stunning. We loved exploring it. Although we were warned in advance about the lack of towels and brought our own, we found the lack of towels and other basic amenities a bit inconvenient - we were given one toilet roll for a three night stay and there was no hand soap in the bathroom. This was our most expensive booking in Wales so seemed a bit odd for the services to be so basic. The notices warning £50 penalties for checking out after 10am also seemed unfriendly. The plates in the kitchen hadn't been cleaned properly by the previous residents and this hadn't been picked up on by the cleaning company. Over all, a beautiful place, but perhaps could offer a few more creature comforts for the price.

  • An excellent stay. Beautiful secluded cottage in unspoilt countryside. Loved the simple design of the space and the huge fire made it really cosy. All communication very clear beforehand and a short drive from quirky little town of Machynlleth. Head to the church entrance in Cemmaes for maps of three walks of 1, 4 and 9 miles in local area. Avoid eating at the pub in the village unless you want a laugh - although great for drinks.

  • Daniel's place is perfect for a relaxing weekend away from a city. The cottage was clean, warm and cosy and everything was in working order. The atmosphere was great! Daniel was a helpful and responsive host, definitely recommend! Strongly suggested to have offline maps on your phone since reception around the area is not very good (cottage has wifi).

  • The Hall cottage was the best! Daniel's description and pictures did not do it justice. The cottage was spacious, clean to the finest detail and tastefully appointed. It was a challenge to find in the dark, but Daniel's directions were a great help. The beds were comfortable and the heat worked great. The cottage is one of 4 or 5 on the property and yet we felt all alone. I highly recommend this wonderful cottage. We can't wait to come back.

  • Very nice cottage for a group of people to stay in. Have a very nice view of the hills. The only thing is that the direction link for the place was not accurate for me and causes some confusion in the beginning. Overall great place.

    Holden2016-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • OMG! It could not be any better. Lovely people, the area and most importantly the cottage. I want to go back and this time round stay for much longer. Thank you!

    Greg2014-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • Daniel is a great host and we had really enjoyable experience here. My group had an absolutely spontaneous trip to Snowdonia, so we booked the cottage just one day in advance and it was luck! The location is perfect: on a quiet hill close to a field where you can see sheep and ewes. GPS navigator can be misleading, so read carefully Daniel's instruction. There are two floors in a cottage. Large living room, kitchen and a bathroom are located on the ground floor; three bedrooms (with one double bed, one with two single beds and one single bed) and en-suite bathroom are on the first. In the living room, you can find two sofas, so the house is suitable for large groups. The kitchen is well-equipped, but you need to bring all spices as well as tea and sugar with you. Don't forget towels! We visited the Harlech Castle and a nearby beach and saw a sunset from the Bangor Pier.

    Maria2017-04-09T00:00:00Z
  • Daniel was very friendly, laid-back and helpful from the first contact we made, and was particularly helpful and reassuring when I had some teething problems using the Air B&B website. His cottages are in a beautiful location and he made us feel very welcome and at home on arrival. There are plenty of nice places to walk and explore, and short walks around cottages were just as nice and rewarding as longer ones. My kids loved the badminton set and the swing, and my baby loved the friendly cat! The Hall itself is nice, large and has a homely feel. We would definitely recommend it to friends and would stay there again ourselves.

    Bink2015-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for two days at Daniel's cottage which came equipped with everything we needed. The location of the cottages was an excellent starting point for exploring the Snowdonia region. Would recommend!

  • We very much enjoyed our stay at Daniel's cottage. The garden is beautifully kept and the cottage has it's own private access. All the rooms have a view to the garden (and beyond!) and there was enough space for the children to play around, whether outside or indoors.

2 bedroom cottage with original features and open views to the valley, nestled in the Dyfi Forest at the edge of Southern Snowdonia. At the top of the unspoilt village of Aberangell and a perfect, headclearing walk to pubs, shops and garden centres. This quiet, residential lane is part of a very active Community police watch area in the National Park.
My home is open to you, if you need a retreat to create, or recharge your batteries. A very special place to take time and connect with loved ones or explore the area's many attractions and landscape features. Multi-fuel woodstove, fully equipped kitchen, heating system on cold nights and luxurious mains-pressure shower. And birds! A lot of woodland birds, coming to the garden.
  • We were very happy staying at Suzanne's charming peaceful cottage. It was a great base for the 3 of us (2 adults and a 2 year old). We really enjoyed playing, relaxing and enjoying the views in the beautiful little garden. The area is very peaceful and a great location for many local attractions. We really enjoyed climbing Cadir Idris and exploring King Arthur's Labyrinth. There were some difficulties in communication during the stay, but then North Wales is not known for it's connectivity! That's part of the appeal in my opinion. All in all a very nice, relaxing stay and I would recommend the place in a heartbeat.

  • We came here in August for a couple of days and loved the house - small but very cute and clean. It is Suzanne's house (though she wasn't there during our stay of course, and we actually didn't get the chance to meet face to face) so it does look like a friends place rather than a typical BnB, but not in an awkward way. Suzanne prepared the fire in advance, so we just had to light it up, which was a nice touch (even in August we used and enjoyed the fire! It's Snowdonia...) And of course, the region is fabulous...

Pen-y-geulan is a hidden gem, Nestled in the quiet Dyfi valley close to market town of Machynlleth this beautiful detached cottage is the definition of tranquility. From the front door you enter the Summer room,an outside /inside dining area and log burner to gather around in the evening. From here there is a brief walk to the main front door which leads you into a cosy kitchen area, off this is the main Double bedroom. Upstairs is Bathroom, Lounge with breathtaking views and a second bedroom.
The house dates back to early 1800's when it used to be 2 very small cottages. Renovated in 1977 and then again in 2007 when we bought it. It remain full of character with wood stoves in living room and one in the kitchen and another for cosy summer nights in the summer room. The views are simply stunning looking up and down the Dyfi valley - hence why we have the living room upstairs so this can be best appreciated. We welcome dogs and the terraced garden which extends to nearly quarter of an acre is fenced immediately around the house. Machynlleth is only 6 miles away and there is a fantastic pub in the village serving food from 8am. The house is well furnished with a mix of antique / vintage items with some modern comforts. We do have Wifi and Satellite Tv for bad weather days.
Cemmaes is a very small village with just a pub - its a friendly place where people still say hello and good morning! Life is at a slower pace in mid wales as you will find out.
  • This is a beautiful cottage full of character and in a stunning setting with fabulous views from every window. Perfect location for us to go walking in the nearby mountains.

  • Great little cottage, well appointed, comfortable and set in a beautiful, quiet location. Unfortunately we only spent two nights in this lovely cottage and didn't have any time to explore the immediate area, since we were at a friend's anniversary party in Corris. There was pretty much everything you could need and the place was spotless. Shame it wasn't cold enough to light the would burner, because I can imagine it would be very cosy! Communication via email/messaging and phone was extremely fast and Alan was very cordial. Instructions for arrival and the key safe were spot on! The jackets in the summer room were also a nice touch, in case we needed them! Thank you!

  • Geoff is a really communicative host, we found the house easily and everything was according to description. The house is near Cadair idris which is a nice top and not too far some other interesting places. The beds were comfy and it was nice to be able to get some fire going at night since it was very wet outside...

    Katia2017-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • The place in nice, quite small, but big enough for 4. Really close to a nice pub, and car can be parked in the layby outside, which is convenient. Great location for easy access to some nice walks, and the fire was awesome. We had a great time. No (free) Wifi at the property though, which in this day and age for an AirBnb place is disappointing and feels like a way to extract a few more ££ from you. Also only an electric hob, which can be a niggle for some.

  • Everything was as described and more. A lovely cottage with everything you need to have a lovely short stay.

  • My husband and I stayed with our dog at Frondeg for New Year. It is situated in a beautiful part of Wales near Cadair Idris with lots of opportunity for walks in the nearby area. There is also a pub about 500 metres away from the property doing classic pub grub with good beers on tap. The cottage itself is cosy and charming. It is also clean and well equipped. The log fire was very welcome in January (provided with intial fuel, afterwards you supply your own). It runs purely on electricity (no gas), but the storage heaters kept us lovely and warm even with sub-zero temperatures outside. There are also some excellent bird watching opportunities for anyone interested in birds of prey. Geoff was helpful and communicative and good host. A great base for walkers a wonderful bit of Wales.

  • Stayed in AIR yurt with my girlfriend for a getaway. The yurt is beautiful and pitched at the top of the plot offering incredible unspoilt views. Everything you need for a comfortable stay is there in the yurt, I loved the shower which gave a unique view. While we were there we climbed snowdon and just relaxed. A perfect place to unwind, and recharge the batteries!

  • So lucky we found this place last minute and right from the beginning it was more than what we imagined. The yurt was amazing with hand made beds and everything you could possibly need was provided including marshmallows for the fire! The hot shower outside was so fab and the surroundings left me wanting to come back as soon as possible! Will definitely visit again!

The welsh weather didn't stop us getting out and about as we knew we could retreat to the warmth of the wood burner. Would recommend, just remember the wellies. Thanks Annie.

  • A lovely well maintained and characterful house, full of cosy country charm. It is quite small (as expected) but perfect for a family of up to 4. It had a quaint garden and was beautifully presented, very clean and tidy. It had everything we needed. It is on a main road but the traffic is only slightly noticeable at rush hour and it is very peaceful indeed. We were treated to a few fly bys by the RAF (which we loved). It is well situated for touring and the views out the back are just stunning. Would very happily stay again! Many thanks indeed.

  • The location of Annie Yurt is a truly beautiful spot. Been coming to this part of Wales for years and have never stayed in such a perfect location, high up in the hills with spectacular views. Coming from the city the sense of quiet and peace is a shock at first and then an absolute marvel. It feels like a true home from home, very cosy, warm, with everything you need to relax, be calm and be happy. Thanks Annie, you were a good host, hope to come back soon.

  • If you want to stay in a yurt in Wales then go here. This is the yurt to be in. I could't suggest this eco glamping experience more. From the quality of hosting to the accommodation the weekend was flawless. This is a fantastic escapism experience in a beautiful setting. With the fire on in the yurt it was as cozy as you like, wellies or good boots were a must as you are on the side of a beautiful mountain. It was just lovely and the perfect chance to relax and break away from work. I couldn't rave about it more, I am very keen to return if we are ever back in the area and will be suggesting it to everyone. Thank you Annie for the lovely stay and sharing this with us!

    Oliver2016-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • I cant say enough good words... Annie was a perfect host - super helpful and welcoming. Standing out in the rain waiting for us to arrive as we got a bit lost and couldn't find the turning is above and beyond in my book. Once we arrived she showed us around and left us to it, letting us know where she would be if we needed anything. The Yurt is lovely - with a good wind outside it kept us cozy and the log burner was perfect - we actually made it a bit too hot in there!! The little treasure box was fab if you have forgotten any essentials for a donation in the pot - we didn't need anything as it was our first time in a yurt so wasn't sure what we needed so bought the kitchen sink! Plates, mugs, cutlery, even a cafetiere is available, with the gas stove being just big enough for us. We borrowed the flask for our walk around the local land which is beautiful - the hill itself is a great walk with amazing views but very steep! After the walk we had a barbeque and fire with all the wood and coals we needed available from the wood shed next to the yurt, with extra wood for the burner dropped off while we were on our walk. Had a giggle falling off the hammock and toasted marshmallows on the fire pit before calling it a night. Eco loo was great - no smells and really clean with solar lights for the night time. Bring wellies or slip on boots - we did have a fair bit of rain and its just convenient to have slip on shoes to walk through the grass :) We love every second, if you need a get away this is for you - totally chilled, I could move in!! Will absolutely be back soon. Thanks so much.

  • We had a wonderful time at Annie's yurt! The yurt was warm with the fire and candles lit when we arrived! We had fun making a fire the next night and a great place to explore! Very friendly cats and useful signs so we managed to find it in the dark! (Do try and arrive in the light if you can though - much easier!)

    Elaine2016-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived slightly earlier than our check-in time but Annie was ready to greet us and show us around her lovely piece of land and of course, our wonderful Yurt - home for two days! We were made to feel very welcome and relaxed, a great start to a couple of days away from city life and our first experience of 'off-the-grid' living. Our Yurt was comfortable with everything we needed to settle in. I was slightly worried we would to have enough light in the Yurt being without electricity, but several candles located around the Yurt made it a very cosy experience indeed. If you are looking for a great place to unwind, well away from the rush of day-to-day city living, then this is the place to stay! Annie is a wonderful host and we could not recommend this place more. Just make sure you take some wellies!

    Daniel2016-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Annie is a great host, had everything you need and an amazing part of Wales. I highly recommend staying here, even in February it was warm Inside with the hot fire place. Great experience

  • Annie's Land is a beautiful secluded and peaceful space that we would thoroughly recommend to anyone. The yurt was incredible, super toasty with the wood burner and you had everything you needed within an arms reach. Annie is a great host, made us feel completely at home from the minute we arrived and was always available if we needed her. The off-grid sustainable farm is awesome - incredible views from the fields, powerful elemental circles to explore, and cool little animals wandering around all over the place. We took a particular shine to one of Annie's cats, lolly, who loves to snuggle up to you in front of the wood burner if you want to let her in! Cant recommend this place enough and look forward to returning hopefully in the very near future!

  • Absolutely fantastic stay in one of Annie's yurts!! Annie is really welcoming and has truly thought of everything to make your stay as easy and relaxing as possible. Wellies, torches, maps for the surrounding area, games, books, marshmellows for the fire and candles which help create a really cosy environment. Thanks Annie!!!!!

  • Annie was a lovely host. She was so warm and welcoming. The yurt was gorgeous and had everything I needed. Hidden under a beautiful ancient sycamore tree with the most astonishing views. Such a happy and peaceful time. I felt very much at home and I can't wait to go back. I would recommend it in a heartbeat. Brilliant brilliant stay - thank you Annie for sharing your space.

    Rachel2015-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is such a beautiful setting and Annie is a lovely host. We had everything we needed for a camping trip and especially loved drinking water from the spring. The only downside was the wood burner didn't keep us warm all night so it got very cold in mid September. Other than this I'd highly recommend it. Thank you Annie for making us feel so welcome.

    Kelly2015-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Very beautiful place and secluded location. The yurt was clean and very cosy with the log burner and fairy lights. We had everything we needed and more! The shower with a view was lovely! Annie and Ed were really helpful and left us to it. We will definitely be coming back again!

    charlie2017-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most amazing time at Anne's yurt; the view was unbelievable and we loved the privacy of the space and the lovely features such as the hammock, pots and pans for cooking and of course the indoor logburner. Everything was perfect and we left feeling so relaxed! The only bad part was leaving; one night is just not enough to fully explore and hopefully we will be back soon. I highly recommend Anne's yurt, she welcomed us and showed us how everything worked and then left us to get on with our evening. Fantastic host.

  • The yurt is an awesome place to reconnect with nature and yourself. We enjoyed watching the clouds change over the mountains viewing from the hammock and making fires in and outside. If you want to go back to basic use the eco shower in the garden or park your beer under the old sycamore tree. This place has everything you need to recharge your batteries. Totally recommendable!

  • Annie gave us great directions and we located her land without difficulty. She was a great hostess - helpful, informative and available but never intrusive. The yurt is secluded and has wonderful far reaching views. This was our first experience of living in a yurt and we found it well equipped even to the extent that coffee, tea, sugar, salt and pepper were provided and a small but varied library. It rained heavily our first night but this was not a problem as the yurt was cosy and comfortable .The toilet and cold store are a short walk from the yurt, so flip flops are advisable if it is wet. I would not have believed it was so easy to read by candlelight! A lovely 3 days in peaceful tranquil surroundings. Thank you Annie

The Barn is perfect for writers, walkers, artists, cyclists, climbers and families. Remote (up a well-maintained half-mile track), light and newly converted in slate and oak, it is also warm and comfortable. Our barn is underfloor heated by a ground source heat pump, making it eco-friendly and efficient. Three glass doors give out on huge views over rolling hills.
There's no wifi, so you might find yourselves playing ping-pong, table football, cards, board games, lighting a fire at the fire pit, roasting marshmallows, painting, reading travel books or writing poetry instead. The Barn has a large internal space for sitting and dining and three generous bedrooms and the bathroom has both a bath and a walk-in shower. Despite there being no wifi, EE receives 4G and 3 receives 3G. Vodafone gets very little signal.
This area is full of adventure from the beaches at Aberdovey (bucket and spade), Ynys Las (wild Atlantic) and Borth (surfing), to the mountains of Snowdon, Cadair Idris and the Rhinogs. The local town, Machynlleth, has an award-winning butcher, William Lloyd Williams, a vibrant market on Wednesdays and is surrounded by child-friendly activity centres, such as the Centre for Alternative Technology and King Arthur's Labyrinth and Borth Animalarium. Cyclists will love the routes at Coed y Brenin. Further away (about an hour) is the Zip World Slate Caverns in Blaenau Ffestiniog, where underground trampolining and Europe's longest zipwire can be found. To get a feel of the area, children might like to read Top Dog, published by Pont Books, Gomer Press and written by Emma Rea. It's a story of intrigue and determination for ages 8+, set in a village near the Barn. It's available from the shop Ian Snow in Machynlleth or on Amazon.
  • This is a true hide-away. The Barn was spotless and very well equipped. The kids really enjoyed staying here. The surroundings are simply stunning.

  • Amazing property! Remote location but driveway well maintained. Sunrise views are fantastic (bring a camera!). No wifi, but I had 4G signal on Three throughout the house.

  • We had a wonderful stay in this peaceful barn. It is spacious and had lots of entertainment. We played Monopoly, table tennis, table football and we all loved lazing around in the giant beanbag. The beds were very comfortable too and we had everything we needed in the kitchen. Really big bath was very welcome after "Racing the Train" in Tywyn.

    Jean-Jacques2017-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at the place, definitely recommend. The barn itself is spacious, and bigger than it looks in the picture. The host is very nice and helpful. Very nice stay. Thank you!

    Michelle2017-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • I absolutely loved the views and the openness for my dogs. The furniture was so comfortable and the bed in the loft helped me sleep better than I have for a while. In the loft is this A-frame window and it looked out into the woods surrounding the house and you could see the beautiful sheep fields next door. Waking up was beautiful. Be careful on the road up to the house since I bottomed out about four times on the way up or down each time but my BMW 325i still survived. There are no blinds or curtains on a lot of the windows but you really don't notice. If you need something from Tesco do it way ahead of arriving. We had to make multiple trips and it was about 35-40 minutes away. Overall I loved this house and would definitely consider going again in the future.

  • The Barn is a large and nicely secluded place with everything anyone could need to get away to the country. Not only are the facilities all great, but there are games in abundance that families and friends could all enjoy. Our host was very helpful and gave us great directions and advice on things to do and how to get around in the area. We had a great short trip.

    Anthony2017-05-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a brilliant stay. The barn is gorgeous and we certainly made the most of the table football and table tennis tables. Emma was always available when we had questions and was welcoming on arrival. Perfect for a group trip and somewhere I'd love to come back to. Thanks again for having us.

Take time out for a relaxing break in the heart of Snowdonia National Park. Set at the foot of 2 mountains-perfect location for walkers, cyclists & families. Beaches are very close. Lots to see and do nearby. Something for everyone.
The cabin is the first one in a row of only 6 and is set up a private drive. There is no light pollution or traffic which makes it very safe for children. It nestles in between 2 mountains and surrounded by woodland. It comfortably sleeps 4-6 people. There are 2 double bedrooms and a further bedroom with bunk-beds. There is a dining table and matching chairs. Also a comfortable 3 piece leather suite. A lovely log burner makes it more cosy. A TV/DVD is provided and a selection of DVDs are supplied for your use together with some family games. The beautiful setting of the log cabin makes it a must to visit and I am sure you will not be disappointed and will hopefully visit again. You will have access to the whole property. It has a fully equipped kitchen - to include microwave, cooker and fridge. All bedding is provided. Towels/tea towels, kitchen rolls and toilet rolls are also supplied. There is a basket of wood supplied for you. A barbecue and bird feeders are supplied for your use. You will need to supply your own charcoal and bird seed/fat balls. The path to the cabin does have 3 steps down and is sloping towards the door with another step up into the cabin. Wheelchairs could be a problem. There is parking for 2 cars. There is a path behind the cabin that leads down to a river (children will need supervising as there is a very steep drop). It is a good idea to bring some insect repellant during the Summer months due to mosquitos and midges. Maps and tourist information are supplied at the cabin. A fireguard is also provided for children's safety around the log burner. **PLEASE NOTE ** low flying military aircraft fly over the cabin during weekdays and are VERY loud but fascinating to watch. The cabin is set in the little village of Dinas Mawddwy in mid Wales. Buses do run along the main road to Dolgellau/Machynlleth but I do not have a timetable. There are 3 local beaches - Towyn, Aberdovey and Barmouth. The Mawddach trail for walkers and cyclists is a route from Dolgellau -Barmouth (9 miles each way). There are also mountains in the area to include Cadr Idris and Snowdon. King Arthurs Labyrinth (caves) and craft shops are based at Corris. There is a Centre for Alternative Technology in Machynlleth. There is a lovely childrens park/outdoor gym in Dolgellau. If you follow the private drive past the turning circle and into the woods you will end up in Dinas Mawddwy village and a small childrens park is on the left hand side which is very handy. There is also a large grass playing area just down from the village by the river. You will have access to the whole property. It has a fully equipped kitchen - to include microwave, cooker and fridge/freezer - for your convenience. The path to the cabin does have 3 steps down and is sloping towards the door with another step up into the cabin. Wheelchairs could be a problem. All bedding is provided. Towels/tea towels, kitchen rolls and toilet rolls are also supplied. There is a supply of wood outside the cabin for your use. You will need to supply your own food and toiletries and bird seed/fat balls. . **PLEASE NOTE** the handle of the log burner gets very hot. Please use the glove supplied. I will not be present at the property but can be contacted b y mobile phone if there are any problems. The pub in the village (The Red Lion) serves good home cooked food and is just a short walk away. There is parking for 2 cars. The cabin nestles in between 2 mountains and surrounded by woodland. The wildlife that wanders by is amazing. Bird feeding equipment is provided. You just need to bring the bird seed. There is also a path down to the river that runs behind the cabin (children will need supervising as there is a very steep drop). The cabin is set in the little village of Dinas Mawddwy in mid Wales. • The cabin was lovely, just large enough for six of us (all adults) to stay in a very quiet residential area in Wales for 2 nights. There was a mountain behind and in front of the cottage -lovely setting. Towels were new and welcome chocolates were an extra surprise. The cabin was clean and very warm. There is a path to the stream down the bottom valley at the back of the house. It was not the biggest problem but there was no dishwasher either. Overall we all had a very nice. I thought the cost of cabin was very reasonable. I will recommend the cabin to some people who are looking for a quiet weekend by Snowdonia. Thank you very much.

    Azumi2015-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • We could not have asked for a better place to stay. The cabin has two double bedrooms and another room with two bunk beds, therefore it is spacious enough for up to 6 people. There is an open kitchen and the lounge has two recline seats and a three-space sofa, plus a dining table. The cabin also has all sorts of heating so you will not ever be cold, including a log burner! In addition, we had to provide food for the wildlife around the cabin, consisting basically of birds and squirrels. Summing up, the cabin has all the appliances and tools you'll need for your stay. In terms of location, the cabin is not easy to find. Enter the postcode on your navigator and when you reach the Dinas Mawddwy sign keep driving past them on the same road. After 1-2 miles you'll see a partially demolished house, next to it there is often a big yellow van parked. That's the entrance to arrive to the cabin. The place is peaceful and quiet, and the other neighbours will ask you to be so. Park your car in front of the cabin, on the gravel area, there is space for up to two cars. For hikers, Cadair Idris is just around the corner (10 minutes by car), also a nice lake next to the mountain. On the way to Cadair Idris there is 'The Crossfoxes', the reference pub and hotel in the area, where we had a stunning dinner (it can be open until 11 pm). I strongly recommend Cadair Idris, better on a clear day, but it will make your day regardless of the weather. Thanks to Linda for giving us the chance to enjoy such a lovely place. Albert

  • Linda was very helpful in making sure we knew how to get there and letting us know all that we had asked for. The cabin was just what we expected and more! It was so peaceful and tranquil! My wife and I loved it and definitely would make a return trip out there if able! The pictures do not give the surrounding area justice in terms of beauty! The river is right down the hill and the location is close to everything that we had planned to visit!

    Stephen 2016-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had a pleasant 2-night stay at the cabin. Eventhough Linda was not around when we arrived, access to the cabin was easy, we followed the direction in the review. The cabin was warm and comfy, beautifully located between mountains. We enjoyed feeding and watching the birds, rabbits and squirrels; and went to the river every morning. We hope to come again and stay longer :)

    Wan2014-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • Really enjoyed our stay in this well equipped cabin. We have been visiting this location in Wales for many years and this cabin provides a great base for exploring the region. The cabin has everything you need including a lovely log burner which takes the edge off the cold evenings. We hope to return again soon!

    Chris2017-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • If you take it for what it is a log cabin in Wales it is perfect. The Local pub though at first glance a bit off putting is actually very friendly. However for anything else you will need a car. We very much enjoyed our stay.

    Dene2017-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here over the weekend with our 4 children. It was a nice quiet retreat. The beds were comfortable and it had all the required necessities. We spent the day hiking and exploring in the area. Came back at night, watched a movie (Linda had a nice selection, including kid's movies). The neighbor was very friendly. You are able to walk to a playground, which has a lovely mountain in the background. There is a place to eat within walking distance that's okay (The Red Lion).

    Barbie2017-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • Linda was a fantastic host. She made sure we had all the details we needed & we found everything as she'd explained it. The log cabin is a great getaway place. We had five adults staying but it wasn't too small. We loved the log fire & the pheasants that come into the garden. Definitely recommend it for a break away from technology!!

My place is a traditional cottage close to mountains, rivers and a lovely market town. It is within reach of beaches, leisure facilities and Snowdonia. You’ll love my place because of the original cottage features and the wood burner. My place is good for people who know each other very well including couples, solo adventurers, small families (with kids), and furry friends (pets).
A traditional Welsh weaver's cottage built in 1824 with exposed wooden beams and a huge inglenook fireplace with a woodburner that provides the main source of heating providing you bring wood with you. Retaining much of it's original character this is a basic, one up, one down cottage with a tiny kitchenette and shower room. It's a retreat from the modern world with no TV signal and very little phone coverage. It has lots of period charm and a big comfy double bed in the bedroom. The bedroom shares access to both the kitchenette and shower room. There is also a small double sofabed downstairs. This is a property only to be shared by people who know each other well as soundproofing was not considered that important between rooms in 1824! Front and back gardens provide somewhere for you and your fluffy ones to be in better weather and garden chairs and a BBQ are provided. There is an allocated parking space which you can just about squeeze two cars into but we recommend this property to solo travellers, couples or small families (although no special facilities for children are provided). The staircase is orignal and tight so not recommended for people with mobility issues. The kitchenette and shower room with toilet are both on the first floor. It's quirky and cute! Beyond the front garden and between the house and the parking space is a road which has regular but not usually heavy traffic, behind the back garden is a railway line which has 11 trains a day passing. Pets are welcome, as is relaxing and enjoying the splendid scenery and all the local area has to offer. A 15 minute drive away is the beautiful market town of Machynlleth which has a great collection of shops and eateries, garages, a leisure centre, playpark and art galleries. A 25 minute drive North takes you into Snowdonia and stunning mountain scenery. Beaches are available at Aberdyfi (35 mins) and Barmouth (45 mins). The university town of Aberystwyth is also just 45 minutes away. An occasional bus service to Machynlleth and Newtown has a stop just across the road. In the hamlet of Commins Coch (meaning red common) is a fairly easy walk to the top of the common with great panoramic views and access to the river. A really great place to use as a base for exploring the delights of the local area. Please note, this is still quite an authentic traditional cottage, plug in radiators are provided but this cottage was designed to always have a big fire going to warm it through so you'll need to get a good blaze going in the burner to make this place really toasty in colder months. You will need to bring wood with you or buy it locally.
Commins Coch is a small hamlet in Mid Wales some 7 miles from the market town of Machynlleth. In all there are about 50 houses in the village which is surrounded by hills. Nestled in steep sided hills, Commins Coch means Red Common. The name refers to a large piece of common land up behind the cottage which everyone can access and which, due to its coverage of bracken turns red in the autumn giving it its name. Over the road from the cottage is a pretty little river which is great for a paddle in drier weather. Surrounding Commins Coch are beautiful green valleys and several other small villages to explore which have pubs and small shops. Be sure to check out Machinations at Llanbrynmair.
  • Me and my partner stayed at the cottage for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The cottage is quite rustic/stripped back, but this is made perfectly clear in the description of the place. So although it may lack certain modern conveniences, it has bags of character and is lovely and cosy. Perfect if you're looking to get away from it all.

    Andrew2017-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is very cosy and full of characters. The communication is prompt.

    Huang2017-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • The Old Weaver's cottage is a delight. We (2 adults and 2 children aged 5 & 6) spent 2 lovely weeks there in August 2017, enjoying the character of the cottage and beautiful surrounding areas. The neighbours were all very friendly and welcoming, and we would highly recommend Sasha's property to anyone looking for a haven of peace. And the sofa bed is REALLY comfortable too!

    Joe2017-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely location and really accurate description. Very cosy, basic but just what I needed

    Charly 2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • This pretty little cottage was a lovely base for us to explore the area. Sasha's descriptions of the place were honest and accurate. In winter one has to stay on top of feeding the burner to make it cosy. It's great value for money if you're willing to do that.

    Ryan2017-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • Most tourists head for North Wales and that's a shame because Mid Wales is also beautiful! We loved the little villages set in deep-sided valleys and the great trails for walking/running and quiet back roads for cycling. The cottage is as it looks: it's certainly cosy and rustic but it has loads of character. We loved imaging how people would have lived in this one up one down cottage - it's a little gem of history! You're not going to cook a roast dinner or bake a cake in the kitchen but it has everything you need. The fire is big and the bed is very comfy. Not recommended if you're scared of spiders though... would also recommend bringing logs as the ones from the garage aren't the driest.

    Fiona2017-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • BETTER than we expected! From the description we were expecting to be roughing it but this rustic cottage is actually very comfortable indeed. The bed was incredible and we had 2 good nights' sleep. Sitting by the fire and talking late into the evening was wonderful.

    Penny2017-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was lovely, just as described, Sasha answered any questions quickly. We would definitely recommend, as long as you're prepared for a tiny (but useable!) kitchen.

A superb farmhouse set in beautiful gardens overlooking our farmland. Quiet and peaceful. Sit, relax and watch nature. Full of character with old oak beams, woodburner in inglenook and oil fired Aga in the kitchen. Just on the edge of Snowdonia it is ideal as a base for walkers, cyclists and exploring the local area of Mid-Wales, beach at Aberdovey (25mins), RSPB Ynyshir (15 mins), Dyfi Ospreys (15mins), so much to do - sea, mountains and history. Machynlleth (10 mins)
There is a large farmhouse style kitchen with a lovely and warm Aga which opens out into a lounge with a wood burner in the inglenook. Another spacious comfortable lounge. Both have Freeview TV and DVD. Upstairs there are 4 bedrooms, 1 with king-size bed, 2 doubles and 1 single. There is a bathroom with shower over bath upstairs and an extra downstairs bathroom with shower. The utility has a washing machine and drier

Please take care on the staircase which is in traditional cottage style and not suitable for people with mobility difficulties or for carrying young children up and down. Children must be supervised when using the staircase.
The house is located on the south side of the Snowdonia National Park and is an end of terrace house which, back in 1826, was a weavers cottage. We have recently extensively refurbished the cottage and this includes a new bathroom. The Snowdonia National Park is 5 miles away. Other attractions are the Centre for Alternative Technology, Nature Reserves, Talyllyn Railway, Devils Bridge and seaside Aberdovey and Borth. There are superb footpaths for walkers and trails for mountain bikers. The house sleeps only two people but there is room for camp beds although we do not provide them. The house offers clean basic facilities which is how we keep the rental rate low. There is a cleaner who cleans at the start of your stay and at the end. All linen is provided, but do bring extra towels. We provide cotton sheets and a comfortable bed. The staircase is a typical cottage style and is not suitable for people with mobility difficulties. Although the property is for two people only you are most welcome to bring children however we do not provide additional facilities for them and please do make them aware that they must walk and not run up and down the staircase. This is a simple welsh cottage in a beautiful area close to much of the best of Wales. The cottage is not a 5 star hotel and this is reflected in the price. If you are looking for well placed accommodation with lots of traditional features then this is the perfect little cottage for your stay. Light the fire when you arrive and the atmosphere is delightful. The house has a small front garden, a patio at the back and a large side garden. The house is in an ideal area for exploring the Snowdonia National Park. Although there is a cleaner who will thoroughly clean the cottage before and after your stay, please ensure that you leave the cottage clean and vacuumed at the end of your holiday. Also, there maybe a store of logs and coal which you are welcome to use, but as I can’t always guarantee that the previous guests have replenished the stock I do suggest that you buy coal, logs, firelighters and kindling from any of the local garages. There are a number of very good restaurants in the area and lots of beautiful picnic spots. I can send you a list of interesting places to visit, fantastic picnic spots and spectacular scenery.
The cottage is close to Machynlleth which is a quaint town with all the amenities. Borth beach and Artists Valley are also near by as is The Centre for Alternative Technology.
  • What a wonderful cottage! We loved the wood burning fireplace and the cool bedroom upstairs. This place has a ton of character and it's really close to the oldest town in Wales that has a bustling farmers market every Wednesday! We loved the town, people, hiking (the Torrent Walk is an absolute must- Thomas Paine created this really cool loop to walk), and relaxing at night by the fire to BBC shows. Such a great time and we hope to come back very soon!

  • We had two lovely nights in Gillys cottage, it was very clean and had everything we wanted. It was very peaceful within and the fire kept it very cosy Gilly was very professional and quick to respond to any questions. Thank you :-)

  • Great time was had over New Years in Deer Cottage. Easy to find and just as pictures/description listed. Bedroom is large with plenty of room for 2, just be mindful descending stairs if a little wobbly(!). Lounge is also a good size and log burner is a treat in winter as cottage does get chilly but that is to be expected. For the price a good weekend break in a cosy cottage.

    Emma2016-01-02T00:00:00Z

  • A beautiful, simple, clean cottage in a stunning part of the world. The cottage was not easy to heat in minus-temperatures. To heat the place in a cold snap you need to put lots of coal on the fire! We locked ourselves out on the first morning but luckily Gilly was able to arrange for a replacement key to be picked up from her property manager quickly and efficiently. Thanks for a lovely stay!

    Rosie2014-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • This a perfect little cottage for a get-away. We only stayed a couple of nights but wanted to stay for ages sat in front of the cozy fire. It's easy to get to and a good location to explore from. I'd recommend the Wynnstay Arms down the road in Machynlleth for really excellent food. Gilly was a great host for our first airbnb experience, answering all our questions and we'd definitely return to Deer House for a longer get-away in the future.

    Eric2014-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I stayed at deer cottage over the Easter weekend. Lovely little place with a very cozy feel. We did have a spot of bother finding the place as we did not know what number to look for and it is only labelled with number and not name. The post code does not drop you directly at the door and we arrived very late due to severe traffic leaving London so that was tricky as we couldn't seek advice so late in the day, but we found it in the end! It was nice to have a log burning stove, be sure to buy fuel ahead of time though as it gets very chilly without it! Gilly was thoughtful enough to advise us to pick some up on the way. The bed was comfortable and we were very glad of the electric blanket which kept us lovely and warm when otherwise we would have been quite chilly- great addition! Loved the beautiful old staircase although it would not be suitable for someone who is not steady on their feet! Not a problem for us mind. Be sure to also bring your own coffee as there was none provided.

A modern, delightful wooden chalet nestled amongst the trees and land of Darowen. This spacious one bedroom chalet is perfect for exploring the scenic landscape of the Dyfi valley. There are lots of different walks to be tackled, 1 of which is the famous Glyndwr's way. And if you decide to take it easy, just put your feet up and enjoy the stunning views from the comfortable and spacious balcony. The town of Machynlleth is only 7 miles away with lots of places to eat and things to enjoy and see.
  • The seclusion and quiet are what we valued the most. The views across the valley are a delight from every window. The caben was very clean and comfortable. Gwion was the perfect host, with quick response times.

  • This place was more than we saw in pictures. It was in an amazing place, quiet and peaceful. Communication with Gwion was outstanding. Helpful and very informative. On arrival found a little treat for us which made our first night in chalet warm and cosy. Definitely would recomend his place and would love to come back again.
