Serrano is the name of the Native Americans that once had a camp in the canyon where Serrano my vacation rental is located. It's remote but 20 minutes from amenities, 10 minutes from Pappy and Harriot's. Come enjoy the night sky filled with stars.

This picturesque and pristine area is an unusual pocket, which is a mirror of Joshua Tree National Park. Some people don’t want to leave its beauty and endless hiking and photographic possibilities. You will enjoy peace and quiet of the canyon, that’s located near the dead end of a maintained dirt road. There’s something for everyone’s hiking/walking ability. You can walk for hours and will rarely see another person. You can also enjoy one of the patios and take in the scenery from there. Serrano is situated among the Joshua trees, yuccas, creosotes, pinion pines and desert willow. The Pinion’s begin at Serrano’s elevation, which is 4600 feet, similar to the hidden valley area of the Joshua Tree National Park or “The Park” as locals call it. The area feels remote while being 20 minutes from all the amenities. We have no streetlights that will block your view of the night sky where the Milky Way can be seen almost every night, maybe a moon lit walk under the stars sounds appealing. Think of all of this as blissful solitude and a respite from everyday life.

About the living space:
We provide a clean non-smoking environment and use non toxic cleaning supplies and fragrance free laundry detergent. Serrano can sleep up to 4 adults; sorry no kids under the age of 16, and no pets are allowed. Serrano is an open floor plan made up of two rooms totaling 625 square feet. The main area is divided into two distinct areas by a floating wall. On one side is the bed where you’ll wake up to a view of the mesas (extinct volcanoes), which only exist in this particular area of the region. The other portion of this room has the living room, dining room, kitchenette and table work area perfect for a computer. The extremely spacious bathroom has a shower only and acts as a dressing area with its large closet. There are two outdoor patios. One patio has a dining area as well as lounging area with comfortable chairs and a stunning view of some of the many rock formations in the area. The other patio is great for watching one of our incredible desert sunsets over the boulder hillside to the west.

If you have more people than I can handle my neighbors have a cabin that sleeps 2. It's a 3-4 minute walk around the side of the boulders Type "Cozy Cabin Pioneertown" into your search bar.

Amenities that are included in your stay:
There is one queen size bed with a comfortable memory foam topper. What I call the loungeateria doubles as a second queen size bed in the living area, at other times it’s fashioned loosely after a Moroccan lounge with lots of pillows. Serrano has a well-equipped kitchenette that includes a 2-burner hot plate, toaster oven, microwave and refrigerator. Virtually any meal can prepared in this paired down kitchen. A Propane BBQ is also provided for another means of cooking. You’ll find other kitchen items for your use like a blender, French press, mini espresso machine, tea pot, pot’s and pans, an array of cooking utensils, colander, dinner and salad plates, bowls, flatware, glasses and mugs of all shapes, champagne glasses, pitchers, martini shaker, mixing bowls, cutting boards, measuring cups and spoons, plastic storage containers, the list goes on. You can plug your IPod, IPad or laptop or other devise into the stereo system at low volumes please, sound easily travels here. We have WI-Fi but I do need to say that outages come with the territory and I can’t guarantee 100% access but it’s usually very reliable. I find that for cellular phone reception AT&T works the best, others can be hit and miss or possibly not get reception at all which is also typical of this desert region.

Serrano is located near The Park on the east slope of Big Bear in an area called Pioneertown. The western set of Pioneertown is just 10 minutes away. It was established in 1946 as a permanent movie set resembling an 1880’s western town. Its creators were Dick Curtis and Russell Hayden; Roy Rogers broke ground to establish the first building that shaped the Hollywood westerns of that era. Pioneertown was chosen because of the unending visual diversity in the terrain of the surrounding area. Pappy and Harriet’s is located on one edge of the western town. If you’re hungry or thirsty you can have lunch or dinner and any beverage you desire as well as live music during the evening at our local honky tonk just 15 minuts away.

Temperatures and clothing:
Take a look at the weather before your visit; we have a wide range of temperatures here. July and August can average around 90-95. The nighttime temperatures drop and are on the cooler and comfortable side. You might get to see a little magical snow that comes and goes during the winter months. The temperatures can range from the 20’s to high 40’s at night and then possibly become tee-shirt weather during the day. Bringing layers of clothing, which will work best here at all times of the year. Hat’s and sunscreen are a good idea also.

The house is a stand alone building which is very private. You won't be completely alone, there are 4 other houses in this part of the valley.

The house is set up with an touch pad entry code locking system (keyless). You will receive instructions with your booking. In the case I'm not here to receive you or you have a late night arrival you will be able to let yourself in. You’re hosts at Serrano are near-by and always willing to answer a few questions. Texting is a good way to reach out. It’s important to know that even though we are close in proximity you'll be left alone to experience the wonder and quietude that this special setting in the desert has to offer.

Surrounding areas:
In the surrounding areas that include Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree, 29 palms, Landers, Flamingo Heights and Morongo, you will find all kinds of other entertainment, shopping, art galleries, antique stores, thrift stores, boutiques and restaurants. Visit the Integratron and it’s fascinating history, maybe a sound bath would interest you. Across the street is Gubler’s Orchids Growers where you can take a tour. There’s always Giant Rock in the same area with its rich UFO history like the Integratron. It’s entertaining weather you take it seriously or not. Visit Noah Purifoy’s outdoor art installation that LACMA in Los Angels just featured in an acclaimed art show. Visit Big Morongo Canyon Preserve and Covington Preserve, which are world-renowned birding areas and riparian habitats. The list goes on and on and I haven’t even touched on Palm Springs that is only 50 minutes away. That’s a short distance by desert standards and there’s never traffic. We provide a book inside Serrano with many of these and more ideas in detail.

The area is very easy to navigate but always be aware that even though cell phones and GPS usually have very good reception they don't work everywhere in the entire area.

Please leave the house in much the same condition as you found it by doing basic clean up. Wash all kitchen utensils and put them away where you found them. Wipe down cooking area and splatter. Wipe down counters. Put away any items where you found them that you may have used, games, blankets, ect. All indoor and outdoor furniture should be put back how you found it. You can leave linens on the bed and towels bath mat, dish towels can be placed in the hamper provided in the bath closet.

We ask that you be water-wise. 2400 gallons of potable water is delivered by truck to a storage tank for your use. Yes, this in common in the desert.
