The apartment is pretty accurately depicted in the description and photos. The location is great--just one block from the nightlife and "scene" of Frenchman St. Also within good walking distance of most attractions in the French quarter. The only drawback is that if you want to go back and forth to the French quarter several times in one day, you may get to feel it's a bit of a hassle (especially if the weather is bad.)
The apartment was pretty spacious and very clean, although some of it looked like it could use some maintenance. Overall, a paint job wouldn't hurt to brighten it up. The flow is a little weird, because you walk into a bedroom (which we didn't use), then into the kitchen or another bedroom, then into the living room. The living room space could use some sprucing up--it's not terribly inviting and the lighting isn't great. The apartment has wall sconces that provide light, but could use more lamps. There are just two and neither is bright enough to read a book by.
There is also nowhere to put your clothes, except two closets with hanging bars. For such a large apt. I think a chest or two of drawers might be a good addition.
Our biggest complaint is that the bedroom (and the outside deck) face Esplanade, which produces a lot of traffic noise starting around 6 a.m. Also, the deck overlooks a parking lot (which includes a flood light at night). Since the deck also overlooks a landscaped swimming pool, it might make sense to put up some lattice to block the view of the parking lot.
The other issue we had was the bathroom. In the photos, this is a big selling point. There's a jacuzzi tub that doesn't work, but that's not listed, so no surprise there. But the grand-looking shower had very low water pressure and the water wasn't quite hot enough. There seemed to be some kind of limiter on the cold-hot valve preventing it from getting very hot.
Finally, the very large bathroom (about the size of the bedroom) opens through two pocket doors right onto the bedroom, but the pocket doors don't work, so you're forced to leave the very wide doors to the bathroom open.
We also had some trouble with the internet connection--it didn't seem to be a strong enough signal. We contacted Mark about it and he said he'd have it looked at, but it never really worked well during the 3 days we were there.
Overall, the apartment is clean, spacious, and well located. It just needs a few things taken care of to get a full recommendation. And I wished some previous reviewers had mentioned the traffic noise.
