This is a quiet guest room in the heart of the Texas Med Center. You'll have a private room and your own full bathroom with clean linens and sheets. Our apartment is quiet at night for good sleep. We are walking distance to all major hospitals, professional schools, and museums at the TMC.
Your room is the guest room/office in our apartment. The bed is an IKEA futon which folds out to a full size bed. The room sits at the rear of the apartment away from the living room, and it is quiet and cozy at night. The room has a large desk with space for you to setup a computer, and it has a sliding glass door with access to the back balcony. The room has a walk-in closet that is mostly empty so that you can store your bags and hang your clothes. We have also added some hooks to the outside of the closet door for hanging clothes and drying towels.
We do have a small 13 lb poodle mix named Oliver. He is very friendly and hardly ever barks. He does not bother guests, and you're welcome to keep the guest bedroom door closed to keep him out of your way. However, please do not book with us if you are not comfortable with a pet in the house. Oliver doesn't shed at all for those with allergies.
We are walking distance to the TMC Transit Center, which is a hub for Metro buses and the lightrail train. From there you can take the train north to the medical center, museum district, Rice University, downtown, and the convention center. You can also take the train south to get to NRG stadium - the home of the Houston Rodeo, the NFL Super Bowl in Feb 2017, and the Houston Texans NFL Football every fall.
Liz and me are very mindful of our guests. We will give you your space and keep the apartment quiet at night so you can rest. We also always promise clean linens and a clean room upon your arrival, and we have fast wifi for you to use! Liz is in Africa right now serving with Peace Corps Rwanda and I am a fourth year medical student busy with rotations. I am not around home too much, so you'll have plenty of space.
Note for job/residency interviewers: We have the check out time set to 1 pm, but this is flexible. If you need to leave your belongings in the apartment during the day for your interview, that's just fine. We've had many guests that need to come back to the apartment to change before heading to the airport. We will arrange a place where you can leave the key if we're not home when you leave.
Kitchen, laundry room (requires 0.75 cents/load across the hall), living room TV, and the swimming pool in the courtyard

I am a MD/PhD student at UTHealth McGovern Medical School. Liz is a MPH/MSW grad at UTHealth and the University of Houston. She is currently in her first year of service as a volunteer with Peace Corps Rwanda and is living abroad. We enjoy traveling, discussing current events, and country western dancing.
