Enjoy a private wooded get-away for two with wood burning stove, indoor dining/cooking area with Coleman 2-burner propane stove, sleeping loft, outdoor fire pit w/seating area & charcoal grill. A move up from tent camping - bring your food & H2O.
Just like camping - only better! No tent to set up. Get away from it all in this quaint little one-room cabin (8' x 10') nestled in the woods on 8.5 acres just outside the Indian Peaks Wilderness and Brainard Lake Recreation Area in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Only a short scenic drive from Boulder, this tiny house sits at approximately 9,500 feet elevation and is a perfect base camp for a weekend of snowshoeing and skiing (winter months) or hiking/biking (summer months). It is located off of Brainard Lake Road. For winter access you will need 4-wheel drive. During the winter, parking is at the main cabin and guests need to snow shoe or ski in the remaining 100 yards. Of course, winter hiking (also known as "post-holing") is also an option. You will need to backpack or sled your gear/supplies into this little cabin. We have two sleds rigged up for you to use.
Play all day in Indian Peaks Wilderness, Brainard Lake Recreation Area, Estes Park, Rocky Mountain National Park or any of the dozens of nearby attractions and then retire to this peaceful little haven where you will enjoy the wood burning stove's warmth and a pot of tea or glass of wine as you relax, journal, read, write, paint or just daydream.
In the warmer months enjoy the intimate outdoor “living area” including cushioned Adirondack chairs encircling an outdoor fire pit. Cook out on the grill and enjoy an outdoor meal at the huge rustic table.
This knotty-pine interior cabin is heated by a wood-burning stove only -- but it gets REALLY warm! It has a small cooking area with Coleman 2-burner propane stove and a well-equipped galley. There are pots, pans, a tea kettle, cooking utensils, cups, bowls, plates, silverware, knives, wineglasses, bottle & can & wine openers. There are paper towels, dish cloths, and cleaning supplies. We have complimentary tea and hot chocolate. A small convertible dining table can be raised to provide more floor space for cots (we have two cots available with bedding, or bring your own) or an air mattress to accommodate children and/or pets. This sleeping arrangement is in addition to the sleeping loft. Climb the ladder to the sleeping loft furnished with a full mattress (sleeps two) covered with blankets, comforters and lots of pillows.
A convenient and clean outhouse is available a short distance from the little cabin.
The cabin is located in the woods not far from our main larger cabin (about 100 yards) in a private setting.

Please do not rely on Maps for directions. Our cabin is in the forest off of a dirt road and Maps does not recognize the road. I recommend MapQuest and will send you a link to your email and to your cell phone.
There is no power, no water, and no indoor plumbing. This tiny house is heated by wood-burning stove only with battery powered lanterns for lighting. Bring headlamps, flashlights, and lanterns if you want extra lighting. Be prepared for potentially wildly changing weather extremes. Wear or bring appropriate footwear for the season and dress in layers.
Children and pets are welcome.
One dog is permitted during your stay. Pitbull Terrier breeds, Pitbull mixed breeds and Rottweilers are NOT allowed. Dogs must be under control and supervised AT ALL TIMES. Do not let your dog run free. DO NOT LEAVE your dog alone, unattended in the cabin. Dogs at our cabin and surrounding property must be under their owner's control or physically confined. This is due to the abundant wildlife in the area including moose, deer, elk, bear, mountain lion and many other small game animals. It is illegal for dogs to harass any wildlife in the state of Colorado, the fines start at $274 and go up from there. We want our guests to have the experience of seeing these wild animals up close and if dogs are running around loose they will miss that opportunity.
Fires are allowed in the rock fire pit when there is no Boulder County fire ban. DO NOT LEAVE A FIRE in the fire pit or hot ashes unattended at ANY time. When you are done burning a fire in the fire pit please use the water in the 5-gallon blue water jug that we have supplied. Use all five gallons to extinguish the fire. In addition, if it is winter please shovel a large amount of snow onto the fire.
DO NOT leave a burning grill unattended. Please douse the entire grill (inside and out) and coals with water until completely cool when done cooking.
NO SMOKING INDOORS OF ANY KIND
No smoking in the cabin of any kind. Any smoking should be done outdoors with proper safe disposal of hot ashes/matches or any other burned material. DO NOT throw cigarette butts and/or matches in the snow or on the ground.
Please DO NOT cut any wood. There is a supply of wood for the wood-burning stove in the wood shed near the little cabin.

I am a semi-native Coloradan – having migrated over 30 years ago from Iowa. I enjoy hiking, backpacking, fishing, lake kayaking, camping and cross country skiing. I spend a lot of time at my mountain house relaxing and enjoying the great outdoors. It serves as a really good "base camp" with close proximity to various attractions and recreational activities. I am NEVER bored. I create hand-made rustic home accents, furnishings and fixtures from local forest materials gathered on hikes. I also love to entertain friends and family, read, watch movies, visit various museums, learn about history, travel, nutrition, religion, and self-development.
Two of my favorite quotes are: "Chance favors the prepared mind" and "Persistence is omnipotent".
My husband, Lindsey, and I really enjoy meeting and visiting with new acquaintances locally, when we host and when we travel. We are both really friendly and talkative and love to help others feel welcomed and comfortable when we are hosting. As travelers, we love to engage with locals and really learn the ins and outs of a place, exploring those places "off the beaten path". Likewise, we love to share our knowledge of our neck of the woods and to serve as a great resource to visitors.
