From the Celts to the Vikings, invaders have tried to tame this wild island, a place of legends, traditions, and folklore. 750 years of resistance and rebellion would culminate in the tragedy of the Easter Rising in the middle of the First World War. Testament to the will of the local people, just a few generations later Dublin is one of the leading business centers of Europe.
Join us as we explore 2,000 years of history. From some of the world's greatest writers to dramatic and sometimes tragic events through the centuries, Dublin's main export has been stories and guides are famous for bringing the past to life through their passionate delivery of the history of this vibrant city.

Il quartiere

Located in the heart of the old city. 5 minute walk to Guinness Storehouse.

Our house is only 500 metres from St Patrick's cathedral an easy 5 mins stroll. Next to this is Christchurch and the Viking heritage centre which traces the Viking invasion of dublin back to the 9 th century. A short meander up Thomas St brings you to St. John the Baptist church with gorgeous mosaics and impressive stained glass window. Continuing on this road is the Guinness hopstore with a sky tower view on dublin. A lovely pub on the way is arthur's pub with a lovely ambience. Another day , an easy stroll is towards St stephens green where you could take a charming horse drawn carriage ride- or simply visit trinity college and the 8 th century books of kells- then on to the palatial. Dublin castle and down towards the temple bar area with a myriad of traditional pubs and restaurants. This will bring you across the river Liffey and on towards. O' Connell St. At the top of this street is the ambassador theatre which is holding an exhibition on 1916 uprising in Ireland. Also nearby is the irish writers museum with the likes of Beckett, Joyce and Yeats. On the way up O' Connell St just past the historic GPO building is Cobos chocolate and ice cream restaurant which is a real treat and lovely building.
A lovely day trip is to catch the coastal train along dublin bay to the picturesque town of howth which is located north of the city on a peninsula jutting into the Irish Sea. You walk to o' Connell St bridge, take a right down the river Liffey and 300 metres is Tara St station to catch the coastal train.

Febbraio 2016

Consigliatissimo come posto

This small apartment was well equipped. Plus the location was within walking distance to many must see's in the old town of Dublin. There were 5 adults, which made for tight quarters. It would have been great for 4. If you have lots of luggage be prepared for the 6th floor walk up. Eileen was very accommodating. The apartment was very clean and well provisioned. Thanks a great first trip to Dublin!

Wow! Eileen is an amazing host. We were more than an hour later than we expected to arrive, but Eileen was so accommodating and nice. She helped us settle in and showed us around the apartment, she gave us tips on where to go and sights to see, and she responded to every question I had within minutes. She truly goes above and beyond, I highly recommend choosing her as a host! The apartment was as described, clean and in a perfect location! We only had 2 and 1/2 days in Dublin, this location made it possible for us to see pretty much everything.

My husband and I stayed at Eileen's with our two adult children. It was a perfect spot for exploring Dublin for the 2 days that we had there. We walked a lot, but never had to take public transportation - except to the airport and Eileen helped us with that. The apartment has a lockbox which was perfect since our flight arrived at 5:30am and we wanted to check in early and nap a bit before exploring the city. The apartment is very clean and fully equipped with everything we needed (shampoo, soap, hairdryer). For some reason I thought it had a pull out couch that my son was going to use, but it didn't. We saw a fold out bed in the hall and Eileen generously offered that and bedding for it. That was much appreciated! The beds were a bit hard, but I saw that in other reviews so expected it. Eileen had a great info package out with suggestions for the area. It was nice to know some of the local restaurants especially (Mannings is great for breakfast, Arthurs for a quiet drink).
