Please contact us for more details on the total number of beds available. Located in authentic old Bali, 13 km higher than Ubud, far cooler, 4 jungle huts, 4 other separate jungle houses, plus 3 larger rice field homes, to be rented together or separately. 10 m saltwater pool, wifi and all amenities. Serenity, yet with easy access to the busy hub of Ubud. Beautiful open-sided 10m x 8m hardwood, sprung floor yoga hall available for an extra cost. Ideal location for a retreat or workshop.
If renting our whole property you will have full private access to our property that currently includes 7 houses and 4 luxury huts, plus a private pool, as described below.
Breakfast is not included with any of our rentals. We do however offer an optional set breakfast for RP60,000 per person. Rather than raise our prices to include it, we offer the choice of purchasing it or not. There are full kitchens in 3 of the houses should guests choose to self cater.
Pondok Dewi is 4 small individual huts, each named for a Hindu goddess and quite large enough to accommodate a single, a couple or 2 single individuals. Each room has a king size bed that can be separated into 2 single beds sharing one large mosquito net.
Then there is Indrani and Parwati, we took 2 old old Javanese teak buildings (lumbung), creatively adapted them to the environment with various local materials, and transformed them into unique and functional living spaces. They are each completely self contained and private, with a koi/lotus ponds and one with a bridge for entry, fully equipped outdoor kitchens, stone work outside bathrooms, terrazzo tubs, and countless great unique features.
We also have 2 smaller old teak houses overlooking the jungle.
Ishani is all teak and glass and jungle views. We took an old Javanese lumbung and made it as functional as we possibly could, while still maintain its integrity. It has solid teak walls and floor, with 2 walls being full sliding glass French doors, a queen size bed, a closet, floor safe, teak patio with a wooden hammock. It has its own private garden with some veggies, banana plants and flowers. There is a living fence providing privacy from the next house, and it has a beautiful view over the jungle. There is a small refrigerator, and eating utensils and plates and cups. It does not have a kitchen, but we of course have our on-site warung. The private bathroom is cheerfully decorated, has an outdoor shower and abundant hot water. All in all, this little has house has everything you could ask for to be comfortable, private and surrounded by nature.
Siddhi is our smallest house. However, its size is a big part of its charm. A solid teak lumbung beautifully carved, just big enough for a queen size bed that sits snuggly in the room and doubles as a day lounger. The bed is extra thick (very comfortable) foam and sits on the floor, so this is not the house for those who don’t like living at floor level, or have trouble getting up and down. The whole house is raised up and looks out over the jungle. We replaced 2 of the walls with glass, so the vistas all around are breathtaking. There is an outside bale connected to the house that creates extra living space and is ideal for working, (it has an International socket for a lap-top). It is self contained and very private, ideal for those who enjoy communing with nature. It is also the perfect little “love nest” for couples. Cosy, intimate living in the most idyllic location, this house is also perfect for solo travelers, an ideal spot for solitude, meditation, contemplation or simply lounging. The house is adjacent to other houses but doesn’t look out over any. It is surrounded by a living fence, fruit trees and vegetable gardens and is a veritable mini “garden of eden”. There is a safe and some baskets for storage, it has its own bathroom that is outside, but is attached to the house and just a few safe steps away. There is also closet and storage space and a small refrigerator, and eating utensils and plates and cups. It does not have cooking facilities, but we of course have our on-site warung. The bathroom is cheerfully decorated, has an outdoor shower and abundant hot water. There is a sitting area outside, with stone furniture (surprisingly comfortable) for dining or writing. All in all this little house has everything you could ask for to be comfortable, private and surrounded by nature.
Sunita and Anita are 2 small but functional little houses set between the rice fields and jungle. Each has a double bed with a single bed in a loft above it. Ideal for a small family or 2 friends. Private garden bathroom (with a coconut growing out of the centre!). Wooden hammock and small koi pond. Each has a refrigerator, safe and wifi.
Durga is an old 2 -storey Javanese jungle look-out tower (pos jaga), that we have converted into a living space. It can comfortably accommodate 4, and more if people do not mind sleeping dormitory style. It has a full kitchen, outside bathroom with tub and shower, and it's own private little garden.
The huts are right on the edge of a jungle that slopes down to a river; it is calm and quiet, cool with natural breezes and plenty of shade. All the huts have high ceilings and fans. Each hut has a small refrigerator, personal safe, private patio for outdoor lounging with a large sized couch, table and chairs for dining and computer work, a hammock, mosquito net, koi pond, private en-suite outdoor stonework bathroom with a shower and unlimited hot water, excellent free wifi, purified water dispenser and facilities for preparing hot drinks.
There is full access to a large saltwater swimming pool, and a small warung (restaurant) on the property where simple Balinese meals can be ordered and delivered to your room. The property itself has countless different nooks and spaces for eating, relaxing quietly or talking privately on the phone.
We do not have AC, there are high areas open to the elements with no screens and the bathroom is open air but with very high walls, (the sink and toilet are under a roof awning so useable in any weather). The huts are perfectly safe, secure and lockable, whilst not fully closed off to all of nature and the natural breezes.
There is also a 10m x 8m, hardwood yoga studio overlooking the jungle. This is a separate additional price, so please ask us about this.
Access is a 5 minute walk along a paved rice field path, with one short 5 meter stretch being unpaved, ensuring more of the real Bali experience, but not for the extreme elderly or infirm. Please note the 2nd photograph clearly shows the path.
We have easy access by motorbike or car (taxi services can be arranged) to Ubud, the cultural center of Bali. The 30 minute drive is breathtaking, winding through the jungle, rice fields, river valleys and several traditional villages.
Ubud abounds with restaurants, shops, spas, yoga, cooking, batik and art classes along with many healing modalities. It has several art galleries and a museum. Evenings offer Balinese dance performances, Fire ceremonies and Gamelan.
We are a one and a half hour drive from the airport, one hour from the nearest beaches and half an hour from Kintamani, which is on the edge of the volcano, Mount Batur.
Higher than Ubud towards the foothills of the volcano, it is tropical but not as hot as the beach areas. There are less mosquitoes but wildlife is abundant.
There is a manager, cleaners and gardener. Laundry can be done for an additional fee. Also some local restaurants deliver to the house, menus are provided.
The property is completely private and self contained with a living fence dividing it from adjacent properties. There is excellent wi-fi, a clear view of rice fields and jungle, car or scooter parking just 5 minutes away.
PLEASE NOTE, THIS PROPERTY IS ON THE EDGE OF LIVING, WORKING RICE FIELDS, AND JUNGLE, AND THERE ARE CREATURES AROUND. THE PROPERTY IS THOROUGHLY CLEANED DAILY (INCLUDING THE BEDS STRIPPED AND SWEPT), BUT THE ODD ANT, FROG, LIZARD OR OTHER LOCAL CREATURE MAY ENCROACH ON OCCASION. IF YOU ARE SQUEAMISH, SENSITIVE OR HAVE ANY KIND OF AVERSION TO SUCH A POSSIBILITY THEN WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU CHOOSE ANOTHER OF THE BALI LOCATIONS THAT IS NOT SO MUCH A PART OF THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT. WE DO NOT HAVE AC, AND CHOOSE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE NATURAL BREEZES.
Although only 13 km from Ubud, we are uphill all the way, towards the volcano area. The temperature here is generally several degrees cooler than in Ubud. Comforters are needed on occasion and AC would be defunct.
Please do not negotiate on the price, we are not charging high or low seasonal rates, and we are priced to function effectively while giving our guests the best value for their money. Thank you for respecting this.
Check in is any time after 2:00 pm.
3 of the houses (Indrani, Parwati and Durga have kitchens), and our service kitchen will be open for orders, but not for the use of guests, unless rented separately. Every house has purified water and a small refrigerator at the very least.
Meals are not included, however we can arrange for meals to be prepared.
There is also and 8m x 10m yoga/meeting hall with a hardwood floor, for an additional hourly or daily rate.
If the whole property is rented, the saltwater pool will be for the exclusive use of the group.
There is a staff kitchen and enclosed area on the property strictly for our employees where they cook, do laundry, all their other tasks, and take their breaks. We ask guests to not enter this area and to allow our staff their private space. Please knock on the gate to alert us that you need assistance, and someone will be right there to help you. Thank you for understanding :)
Check in is any time after 2:00 pm.
For arrivals at the property at or after 7:00 pm there is a late check-in fee of Rp 150,000. This is because our staff only works until then, and our managers live a 40 minute drive away, therefore they will either have to wait or come back just to check you in. This late fee will not apply if you use one of our drivers to bring you to the house, as they will also be able to walk you and your bags into the house and complete the check in process for you. They are all either family members or completely familiar with our property. The manager will then see you the following morning.
If late check out is available (after 12 pm) it is Rp 50,000 per hour, and after 6 pm it is one full nights rental. We will be willing to hold onto your bags until 4.30 pm, but our staff leaves then so if you are not staying with us all bags must be picked up by then. Early check-in (before 2 pm) is also Rp 50,000, before 8 am it is a full night's rental.
We have a yoga hall that is a separate rental. The cost is $15 an hour, or $100 for a full day. When not being used it serves as a storage area for all the yoga equipment, and our staff often use it as work space. We ask that guests not use it for any activity, but you are of course welcome to use all other public spaces. Several of the rooms are large enough for yoga, and you are welcome to use the pool area also. We have mats that we can lend our guests.
Interazione con gli ospiti
We are fully available to our guests, and although there is not always someone on site, we provide local mobile phones so we can be reached at any time. We, of course, ask that you do not call us in the evenings or at night, unless in the case of emergency.
There is daily cleaning, pool maintenance and gardening included. Our manager will be on hand and we can provide an Indonesian mobile with useful numbers and manager contact for your use (we ask for a refundable security deposit, minus any minutes used). Daily offerings are made at the houses and temples on the land by our Balinese help. Should you want complete privacy at any time, then we will fully respect that, just please let us know. However, offerings have to be accommodated at some time most days, plus we do need to attend to the edible gardens, and we ask that respect this. The latest time for the staff to come is 11 am, (they need several hours to clean all the houses), otherwise they will come the following day, or whenever is convenient for you.
We welcome you and ask that you agree to these few requests before sharing our lovely property.
The rental includes our manager, there are cleaners and a gardener, and the houses contain many of our personal belongings.
Please bring a photocopy of your passport, it is required by law that all visitors be registered, and this will eliminate the need for your actual passport to be taken to the police station.
We have books that you may borrow, but please let them stay when you leave us! Our apologies, but out of necessity there is now a sign out sheet for them, as we have lost so many over the years.
There is unlimited, high speed Internet access included with the house. Please be patient, Bali is not a first world country and occasionally the internet lapses for short periods.
This is a safe area, however we are not responsible for any valuables left in the house. There is a strong secure safe in each bedroom, please keep all your travel documents, money, laptops and any other valuables in there at all times. Neither we nor any of our staff will be held responsible for any losses.
Our staff are a very important consideration, and we ask that you treat them with kindness and respect. Their duties are specific and include: Cleaning the house. Maintaining the garden and pool. Shopping for necessary household requirements.
The staff will be available at the house for approximately 2 hours per day, in the morning, unless prior arrangements are made with them.
The staff have their own families and commitments to the temple and community. If it is not convenient that they clean during their usual hours, then they will come the following day.
The staff are not paid or obligated to do anything beyond this, so kindly reimburse them financially for anything additional you ask them to do, and that they agree to, such as staying late, changing their hours, cooking meals, washing or mending your clothes, baby sitting, driving you anywhere on their motor-bikes, or running errands unrelated to the required shopping.
If you require laundry service, they can do this for you, or there is a local laundry with the same rates of charge and fast service. An information sheet with itemised prices is in the house.
For ecological and practical purposes you will be provided with one large towel per person per stay/week and one pool towel per person, if you require extras we will be happy to provide them for the posted laundry rates.
Please make any and all arrangements for additional services through our manager.
If you require any food shopping in advance of your arrival, please let us know; a detailed accounting will be provided for you, and you can pay for this at check-out. There will be an added 50,000 rupiah delivery charge.
Please be respectful if any of the staff, on occasion, need time off for ceremonies, these are a very important part of village life.
If you would like any of the staff to take you around the local area on their motor-bike, the cost is 50,000 rupiah per hour (min 50,000 rupiah, approximately $5USD)
Also if you require any personal errands run: the charge is 50,000 rupiah per hour, approximately $5USD (with a 1hr minimum).
We are in the middle of the working rice fields and, occasionally, usually for brief amounts of time, there can be issues with the electricity or internet. Please be patient and understanding when this happens, it is a small price to pay for being in such a magical spot.
Please let us know if you need airport pick-up (which we highly recommend); we have local drivers who charge exactly the going taxi rate for this service.
Check in is any time after 2:00 pm.
For arrivals at the house at or after 7:00 pm there is a late check-in fee of Rp 150,000. This late fee will not apply if you use one of our drivers to bring you to the house, as they will also be able to walk you and your bags into the house and complete the check in process for you. They are all either family members or completely familiar with our property. The manager will then see you the following morning.
Also we have plenty of referrals for other reliable drivers, car or motorbike rentals, and excellent reasonably priced massage therapists, private yoga classes, manicurists etc. who can be scheduled at the property.
We ask that there be no smoking in any of the buildings, and that if you do smoke that you do so away from the houses and any furnishings.
Also, please no drugs of any description. Indonesia's drug laws are some of the harshest in the world, with the crime of association being almost as severe as use.
Also please bring a reusable water bottle and shopping tote with you, we are trying to do what little we can to not add to the plastic problems of Bali.
I am a home owner, property manager, designer and building project manager, workshop facilitator and tour leader. I am a wife and the mother of two young children, and a Hindu with a deep connection to the religion, customs and traditions of my homeland. It is my pleasure to introduce you to authentic old Bali. The project we are developing aims to preserve everything that this Island of the Gods embodies, both historically and traditionally.
