THE AREA

BRICK LANE A microcosm of London's shifting ethnic patterns, the area around Brick Lane in East London was once associated with poor slums and the scene of the crime for the Jack the Ripper murders. Whilst the notorious pub Ten Bells still stands, the area itself is now extremely popular with London’s edgy and artistic crowd, featuring galleries, restaurants, markets and festivals throughout the year.
The Old Truman Brewery at 91 Brick Lane houses a vibrant market where up-and-coming designers set up shop every Sunday selling a unique variety of clothes, handbags and jewellery. There are also vintage clothing stores and chic boutiques dotted around the area.
Brick Lane has always been famed for its many authentic curry restaurants. It now also has a reputation for its warehouse art exhibitions and trendy clubs and bars. So, before your East London experience is complete, be sure to head to the Vibe Bars beer garden or 93 Feet East (150 Brick Lane) which has become an East End institution well known for its eclectic mix of live music and intimate atmosphere.

COLUMBIA STREET FLOWER MARKET
For an authentic East London experience, nothing comes close to Columbia Road market on a Sunday morning. Jam packed with the best blooms in the capital, it’s a lively and pretty noisy affair (and not for those who prefer peace and quiet on a Sunday), with salt-of-the-earth Eastender types, shouting at the top of their lungs and all trying to outdo one another's patter. During the rest of the week you can dine and shop at the rest of the quaint little restaurants and boutiques.

VICTORIA PARK Victoria Park is one of London’s most important historic parks and its oldest public park. It has been used by millions of Londoners for nearly 170 years as a place of healthy recreation, sports, play and relaxation. Victoria Park has beaten off stiff competition to be crowned the nation’s favourite park in this year’s prestigious People’s Choice Award.

A really vibrant area with so much to do when you are not busy out there shopping.

Arrival: we arrived at 9pm and looked for the apartment and couldn't find it cause the address is a little confuse. number 5 didn't mean the house number, it is the door number at the broomfield house! I tried many times to call Aneela, but she didn't answer my calls or my massage, that i wrote her before our flight... thankfully the people on the street are really nice and helped us to find the broomfield house. After finding the right address we tried to ring the bell - it didn't work. Luckily again there was a guy behind a window and he attend the door. I´am not sure if he was an other guest or our host.... After all we are happily in our small room. Positiv Points: -The room and the duvet cover looks clean and the towel looks good - I had read that there are no curtains in the room, thats wrong Negativ Points: - The slatted frame was broken and it feels a little bit like a hammock - The mattress was old and you feel every spring - across the door is a window to the floor. Every time when the light in the floor is on, the Room is in "Daylight" There are three other guest-rooms. If someone comes home from party or somebody go to toilet you wake up, cause its to bright. - under the door is a really really big gap, so you can/must hear everything thats going on in the house - and the walls are not so thick too... and of course its really bright cause the floor light comes in - there is a toilet and a bathroom. We stay for four days and on two of these days there wasn't toiletpaper. - ok, this point depend to your cohabiter. The Shower itself is nice and hot, but it was really dirty, ugly short black hairs in the shower and hair of the beard in the sink.... It isn't a wellness-hotel and if you wanna drink a lot at evening so you can sleep and make yoga in the morning, it would be ok...

We've stayed for 3 days in Aneela's place. The house itslef is nice and the area is great. Unfortunately there was no hot water!! The shower was freezing, which is unbearable in Winter. There was somebody who wanted to fix it, but that didn't help..

The place is very clean and cutely furnished. There is a dine-in kitchen on the first floor and 3 bedrooms on the second floor with one bath, all offered to airbnb guests. The apartment was very hard to find ( our map took us 3 blocks away so we had to check each building) so I recommend getting clarifying directions from your host. The location is a pretty quiet neighborhood and close to public transit- within 30 min on transit from most tourist destinations. The hot water in the shower was broken at the time of our stay so hopefully that gets fixed!

Really nice place if you are looking for something cheap. Cozy room, and a kitchen with all the basics. Wifi worked well for us. Lovely nabourhood, easy acces to center and airport, 4 minutes to bricklane and algate east. Loots of nice curry places nearby. Be aware that this is not an airbnb "staying in an airbnb home" experience, it is more like a self catering hostel with 3 rooms of turists sharing a bath, toilet and kitchen. Improvement - need to: We had problems with the shower, it does not mix hot and cold water, so either you shower cold or burning hot - think this need to be fixed. Thanks for letting us stay, we really enjoyed our stay!
