Lyon-Hart Gardens is owned by hosts Ed Lyon and Dylan Hart. The Victorian home maintains the charm of when it was built in 1910 with a 1980's addition that includes large sunny family room.
Original portion includes foyer, parlor, kitchen and formal dining room. Private bathroom adjacent to the guest room. Sunny 3-season porch overlooks front garden. There are several areas to sit in or eat a meal and enjoy the gardens, which surround the house, including shaded gazebo and open brick terrace.
There is only one guest room so you will be the only guests during your visit. The room has a single queen sized bed. We get a number of requests for additional people, especially children but there is no extra space in the room for requested air mattresses to accommodate more than the two the bed will hold.
One of the original neighborhoods part of “Old Town” with mature trees; very quiet and peaceful. Ed is the director of Reiman Gardens, a 17-acre public botanical garden that is part of ISU. He is nationally known in horticultural circles, lectures and teaches and wrote a book called Growing the Midwest Garden. He moved many of the plants in the current garden from a landscape around a historic Queen Anne home in Wisconsin as part of the move to Iowa in 2015. Dylan operates a custom wood working shop out of the basement and focuses on home repair and automotive repair.
