Descrizione

Beautifully maintained, immaculate Victorian in older historic quiet neighborhood , walking distance to charming downtown and near campus, property surrounded by gardens with 3 -season porch, shade covered gazebo and open terrace outdoor relaxation areas. Queen bed in private room, two bathrooms; one is adjacent to bedroom and private for guests, internet access, TV (local channels plus ROKU with Netflix, Amazon and HuluPlus, free channels, no cable), continental breakfast.

Lyon-Hart Gardens is owned by hosts Ed Lyon and Dylan Hart. The Victorian home maintains the charm of when it was built in 1910 with a 1980's addition that includes large sunny family room.

Original portion includes foyer, parlor, kitchen and formal dining room. Private bathroom adjacent to the guest room. Sunny 3-season porch overlooks front garden. There are several areas to sit in or eat a meal and enjoy the gardens, which surround the house, including shaded gazebo and open brick terrace.

There is only one guest room so you will be the only guests during your visit. The room has a single queen sized bed. We get a number of requests for additional people, especially children but there is no extra space in the room for requested air mattresses to accommodate more than the two the bed will hold.

One of the original neighborhoods part of “Old Town” with mature trees; very quiet and peaceful. The house is within reasonable walking distance to charming Main Street and a 5 minute drive to Iowa State University. Ed is the director of Reiman Gardens, a 17-acre public botanical garden that is part of ISU. He is nationally known in horticultural circles, lectures and teaches and wrote a book called Growing the Midwest Garden. He moved many of the plants in the current garden from a landscape around a historic Queen Anne home in Wisconsin as part of the move to Iowa in 2015. Dylan operates a custom wood working shop out of the basement and focuses on home repair and automotive repair.

Check-in between 3:00 and 10:00 pm; check -out by 11:00 am. We ask for estimated check-in ETA within an hour time frame to make sure we are available to receive you.
Guests will have a private room with access to areas described elsewhere in the listing.
Breakfast: Continental breakfast can be laid out in the dining room and coffee will be in the kitchen as early as 7:00 a.m. with advance notice. Please let your host know your anticipated morning schedule and dietary restrictions. For extremely specific dietary needs (such as gluten-free) there may be a small up-charge, check with the hosts.
LINENS: You will find laid out clean towels and washcloths. If your visit is shorter than 3 days, we will not change the bed linens unless you request it. Extra towels and linens are available in the storage closet in the room as well as blankets and comforters.
Television: We do not subscribe to cable. The bedrooms pick up some of the local networks and there is a ROKU unit that will provide you to our subscriptions to Amazon Prime, Netflix and Hulu Plus. If you have subscriptions to any of these services you will be able to watch any of their for-pay programs, otherwise you will have access to all of their free programming.
Internet: Wireless internet is available.
Bathrooms: The upstairs bathroom is set up for your use;. The upstairs bathroom has a hair dryer and we always stock extra toiletries. Towels and washcloths washed every 3 days unless otherwise requested.
Ironing: An ironing board and iron can be provided in the dressing room.
Toiletries: We can usually provide most toiletries that you may have forgotten to pack.
Temperature: The two sections of the house are on separate furnaces and air conditioning units. If your room temperature is not to your comfort, let us know and we will make adjustments.
Living Space: The hosts tend to spend most of our leisure time in the family room. The formal parlor and dining room will be available for you (as well as porch and outdoor spaces previously described); French doors separate the family room from the rest of the house to provide additional privacy.
Parking: Parking is on the street in a quiet residential neighborhood.
Smoking: Smoking is not allowed anywhere on the property.

Hosts are generally available, Dylan works from home and Ed is off weekends so guests will not feel left without assistance. We do ask for an estimated ETA for check-in. The house is large enough (the addition makes it a spacious older home) that guests can use the parlor as space for relaxation; hosts generally spend most of their leisure time in the family room.

This home is located in a historic neighborhood with mature trees, home owners who garden and is walking distance from Main Street retail shops, coffee shops, taverns, a food coop, parks and other amenities found in comfortable, established neighborhoods.
It is close to the vibrant Iowa State University with athletic events (less than 1 mile), museums and a 17 acre botanical garden. Guests are supplied with two passes to the botanical garden, which has an admission fee.

Ames is easy to get around and has taxi, Uber, buses and many bike paths for those who travel with bicycles. There is a fair amount of amenities within reasonable walking of the home. You will be provided with a list of favorite non-franchise restaurants (casual and higher end) as well as coffee houses.

The breakfast is continental. Unless you alert us, we will assume you have no dietary preferences; dietary restrictions that are stringent may incur an additional charge.
We generally do not accept pets but will make exceptions for an additional charge; it is at our discretion based on your description of the pet's size and behavior and your ability to kennel at night and maintain control all other times.

Such a cute place. The house and the landscaping were so charming. We used the porch to sit and have breakfast too. Bed and private bath were great. Nice closet, dresser and lots of shelfs etc to put your stuff in your room and bathroom. Very close to Iowa State campus and downtown Ames. Darrell and Ed's hospitality was superb. Breakfast was great both days. Definitely would come here again if we are back at Iowa State.

Two things I wish had been different: that my schedule had allowed more time to sleep because the bed was my idea of perfect! And that I had been there when the gardens were in full bloom. A beautiful and comfortable home, and lovely, gracious hosts. Highly recommend it!

Our hosts, both Dylan and Ed, couldn't have been nicer. The house was beautiful, as well as the gardens. The bed was super comfortable, and the breakfast was great. We invited some good friends over one evening before we went out for dinner, and Dylan had set out all that we needed: glasses, wine opener, ice. The location of the house--the wonderful neighborhood, the proximity to ISU couldn't have been better. Thank you, Dylan and Ed.
