There is one big room available in the South wing with queensize double and a single bed if required. It is a grand stone building built in the 1930s. The rooms have high ceilings, jarrah floors and open out onto a verandah and lawn.
The homestead is a compound composed of four separate and different buildings set around a central courtyard area. All the buildings are surrounded by verandahs, lawn and garden with a fence that rings the whole area of approximately an acre.
We offer a fully catered adventure, with breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus morning and afternoon tea to be shared with your hosts. Station fare is simple, tasty and plentiful. Meat is from the rangelands with some salads and vegetables grown at Edah and sourdough spelt bread made on the station. If you would prefer to cater some meals for yourself or have dietery requirements we might not be able to meet, we can discuss options for self catering.
Guests are welcome in the kitchen if they wish to share in food preparation and we welcome cooking ideas and interest. The dining room and all verandah areas in the central courtyard and in the garden areas are open to guests as is the lounge room in the guest wing - a large room dedicated to meditation, reading and private study.
There is an aboveground pool we hope to have in operation by the summer of 2015.

Station life is informal - Edah Pastoral Company is a work in progress with a homestead that is a place to share and connect with others in a vast landscape.
The nearest town of any size is Mt Magnet 70 kms away, with one-horse-town Yalgoo 50kms away, so the attractions of Edah are about the wild and beautiful land.
Guests interested in joining in the life of a working station can potentially accompany one of the hosts on a windmill run, help with fencing or sheep work, be part of collecting wood and fire duties for the cooking and heating of water. There are chickens to feed, food gardens to tend and water and other daily tasks. Or you can suit yourself, find your own walking paths to watch birds or observe the bush and just come in for meals.

At the moment we have limited internet satellite use, and no mobile phone coverage from the homestead - some phones have found a signal form nearby Edah Hill. Do not expect to be connected as if you are in the city - expect and enjoy a -free stay!
Edah is on arid land. This country is wild, harsh and challenging for the uninitiated and should never be taken likely. Expect to be living with reptiles and insects as well as kangaroos, emus, wild goats and an amazing array of birds. Summers can be extremely hot with velvet close nights and winters can produce frosts and icy east winds. What we are trying to say is that the beauty of this land is considerable, but it is not for the faint-hearted...
A sturdy pair of boots is necessary in all climates outside of the homestead and you never go anywhere in the warm months without carrying water. Having said that, there are plenty of well-made dirt roads and walks around the homestead where the remote beauty and extraordinary peace of the place can be enjoyed in safety.
Guests can be as sociable or as solitary as they desire - but they must communicate with their hosts about their movements if they want to explore on their own for basic safety reasons.
Friendly, sociable dogs can be catered for inside the homestead compound which is large - but they will have to wear muzzles outside of the homestead because of poison baits laid to cope with the wild dog problem. This is not negotiable, the dangers for your pet are very real.
Smoking is permitted in outside areas.

I am artist turned farmer and pastoralist. I grow and gather food. The Spelt Project emerged from a long time interest in sustainable agriculture and a desire to eat a loaf of bread made of flour raised and milled locally.
In 2015 I completed my second season of cropping spelt working with a sympathetic farmer on Wahroonga sheep farm just east of Geraldton.
I bake sourdough spelt loaves, am in training to produce a decent scone, and have started to market the first season’s flour under the name Speltwell Grain.
Recently four of us took up the lease on Edah sheep station, a 250,000 acre plot in Murchison country in the Shire of Yalgoo, 270kms east of Geraldton. We are equal shareholders in the Edah Pastoral Company Pty Ltd, and all keen on contributing to the Edah project in our own ways.
At present Angus is the property manager and the one most often on site. As per the conditions of our lease Angus and Geoff are preparing for sheep - a modest number at first to reflect the limits of the fencing and the predations of wild dogs.
Geoff is keen to learn from doggers the art of tracking and trapping and both men are becoming adept at diagnosing and fixing windmills. They keep the mechanics of the water and energy supply ticking over. The two talk and act with passion as they head out to mend fences and windmills, toting guns and talking of landcrusiers, energy systems and feral beast baiting. They are men who have been let out of the suburban cage. Toby contributes with information, deas and visits snatched from a busy work routine in Perth.
I come and go between my house in Geraldton, with and without partner Geoff. At Edah I I plant food, tend shrubs, raise seedlings, collect seeds and weeds and manage our six dear chooks,the homestead and visitor comfort.
I have done more food catering in a few months at Edah than I have in my entire life. It seems normal to have a big mob around the table during lunch and at night and with the advent of a sola kooka (made in Joondalup by a genuine kook!) plus fresh kangaroo meat and Angus’s lamb I (sometimes) pass as an inspired cook.
Toby instituted the planting of old man saltbush around the perimeter fence and the planting of our first citrus trees, Poinciana’s and carobs while I have dotted the existing garden with vegetables - mainly rocket, sweet potato and warrigal greens. I am absorbed with weeds, especially double gees, calthrop and buffel grass – and on the edible side, purslaine. We all take on the task of watering.
The wild seeds of the bush are ready to be picked from spring into summer so the task of locating, researching and harvesting useful bush plants has begun in earnest.
I am working on the first of a few retreats for the season of 2016, running the Airbnb site and developing all parts of a new business entity, the Edah Heavenly Pastoral Co. Starting in the winter and spring I am hoping to develop workshops that call into play Body, Mind and Soil... some of these will be bush food retreats with a guest chef and interested participants.
One of the Edah shareholders' tasks is to set up a big shadehouse so we can incorporate a potting shed and growing space for orchard and vegetables to supply the household. I am currently contemplating growing an intense irrigated crop of spelt by hand, peasant style, and erecting the shadehouse around it: back to the earliest forms of agriculture.
We plan to put up a bough shed for residents and visitors to deal with the coming heat. I am also starting work with an architect firm to design a made-for-the-conditions, fully-contained dwelling that can house visitors or residents who wish to be away from the main house and compound.
The pool, an impressively deep concrete hole to the south of the house needs attention before it can be used for swimming and on the hottest days we are making do with a small plastic thing that we share with frogs.
The pace at Edah is slow, the work simple and constant. In January 2016 we installed a 5kw solar system, thus reducing the noise and diesel load and allowing things like fan, fridges and all day computer access.
I am a fan of singing and dancing - singing harmonies around the kitchen table, dancing to Electronic Dance beats or anything with a swing in it and at times I read mountains of fiction - but at Edah I seem to gravitate to books on how to identify wattle seeds and bush foods.
I am a student of the new breed of Gurus (the Gee U R U) healers who work with energy and spirit as it is grounded in the everyday. Engagement with the work of people like Makita Gabriel (creator of Power Energetics, Perth bred and globally inclined ), Micheal Brown, Byron Katie, Eckhart Tolle etc has enlivened my life. There is a large wooden floored room at Edah that has been emptied of furniture and is dedicated to the art of contemplation
It is a privilege to live in this sublime country especially on a portion of land de-stocked for years and unusually rich in plant and animal life; we have also been blessed with a good season of summer rain.
Finding ways to move through the inevitable friction that happens between four disparate beings and continue to work in harmony is a challenging and rewarding undertaking. It helps to understand that we need each other to make this this project viable.
Above all else it is a continually wonderful to live in a place so full of stars and space and devoid of humans and their infrastructures.
Every step at Edah is a meditation - the country sings. The name Edah Heavenly Pastoral Company says it all. It is a place of retreat.
