Descrizione

Quaint German cottage built in 1840 and faithfully restored in 1986.
Living room/bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette, upstairs bedroom area with slanted ceilings accessed by steep, indoor staircase from kitchen; secluded front porch.

The farm itself, which also includes a main farmhouse and barn on the property, has been in several magazines including "Country Living", "Houston Home & Garden", and "House Beautiful". The main house (our home) has been designated as a Texas Historical Landmark.

Located on 112 bucolic acres off quiet County road, this peaceful place is part of a historic German homestead, lovingly restored by owners in late 1960's and furnished with Texas primitives. Was our weekend escape from Houston for almost 50 years until we retired here to live full time in late 2011.

One bedroom with high ceilings. Kitchenette includes dbl. electric burner, griddle, microwave, refrigerator and sink. Full bathroom with shower/tub, sink and toilet.

Private front porch is ready and waiting with rocking chairs for you to enjoy the colorful Texas sunrise and see the native deer emerge from the woods at dusk. Ducks splash playfully on pond, and free-range chickens cluck peacefully as they scratch through leaves.

Please do not go to location before contacting us for Check In and Out details. We will make arrangements to meet you, or we can leave a key for you.

The main farmhouse, our home, is very close by and we can be reached by cell phone anytime you need us.

The charm here is a quiet country stay. Hear nature's sounds: the wind in the trees, the birds, the coyotes in the distance, the Owls hooting, and nature's peace. We would love to share it with you.

We want you to enjoy yourselves but we ask that there is no smoking, and no big parties.
Because we have our own pets (2 cats), free roaming chickens, and ducks on our pond, we request that you bring no animals for your stay, and hope you understand.

Check-out time is 12 pm to give us time to prepare the cottage for our next guests as we did for you.

We hope you enjoy your stay so much you'll want to come again and again.

Ginny greeted us upon arrival, was very welcoming and shared so many interesting facts about the history of the property and her family. She was very accommodating and made us feel right at home. We met her husband, Pat, and he was equally as friendly. This is a great property and perfect for relaxation before and after round top shopping!

Indescribable. Sitting on the porch as the sun pokes up over the hill, you hear the roosters from the neighboring farm say good morning. The history was inspiring and all the different fruit trees and touches of country love everywhere you look was magical. Ginny was the most amazing hostess and to be able to peek into her little piece of heaven on earth was truly a gift. We stayed with my 80 year old parents, my husband and my expectant daughter and son in law. All 3 generations felt this was a special experience that will truly be cherished forever. Thank you Ginny and Pat!

This place was fabulous! We were just a few minutes out of town and had quick access to Round Top. If you are looking for a place to unwind after shopping all day at the markets or just to get away from town this place is pretty beautiful. I missed waking up to the farm life after we returned. Make sure you look up at night, do not see that in the Big Cities :)

We can recommend this place to everybody! Pat and Ginny are two of the most kind and hospitable people we have met so far. Their place is amazing. The "Ollie" house is still in the 1800's style, with a porch with a beautiful view on the pastures and woods. The surroundings are excellent for cycling, walking, and just ultimate relaxation. Only 1.5 hour from Houston and even a weekend already feels like a long relaxing holiday. We will definitely come back to this fantastic place, thank you very much for a great experience!

If the thought of staying in a charming and private historical cottage on a 300 acre farm is your idea of bliss- look no further! We enjoyed fresh eggs from the hens and pomegranate, pecans and limes picked from the trees in the gardens. Rocking chairs on the front porch overlooking the fields below at breakfast- coyotes howling at the full moon and roosters at sunrise- nature's alarm clock for the antiquing set! Original furnishings and sky blue tile bath- charming and sensible. Quaint kitchen with full sink, microwave and 2 burner unit- under counter fridge- a great little vacation kitchen Your hosts, Ginny and Pat, are the neatest couple and the quintessential picture of true Southern hospitality! Our experience left us with the comforting knowledge that a good old fashioned life can and still does exist outside of the of world as we know it. What they have there in Burton, Texas is something very special and very real. During our prayer time this morning- we asked the Lord to help ease us back into life after- our vacation at Walnut Farm. Tomorrow we will ask him send us back- sooner than later. Thank you Ginny and Pat, we can't thank you enough! xo Susie & Gary Daniels Daniels BMW/ mini of allentown Allentown, PA

Born and raised in Houston, Texas. After college, I worked in designing and maintaining landscapes, both residential and commercial; my focus was on using native or adapted plants common to the area, (Houston, Austin, and Moab, Utah) and creating a low water, low maintenance landscape that blended in to its surroundings, attracting birds, bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies.
I am now managing our family farm near Round Top, Texas, overseeing the care of horses, cattle, chickens, and ducks. We are planting native grasses and shrubs, adding more ponds (or as they say here in Texas ”tanks”) with the guidance of the Washington County Extension Department. Our goal is to provide and enhance a natural habitat for wildlife on our acreage. In addition, we are constantly at work maintaining our 1840’s guest cabin, and our 1870’s main house, with the old barns, etc.
Recently I have become very involved with raising funds to restore early 1800’s buildings at The Winedale Historical Center near Round Top. It is home to some of the finest examples of early German pioneer settlement houses in Texas, and boasts the extent of the expertise in architecture and design of that time. Currently President of the 501(c) 3 corporation “Friends of Winedale”, we are working with experts from The Briscoe Historical Center in Austin own the property and are overseeing the repairs and restoration.
I love living in “this neck of the woods”, and being out, free to roam in God’s Country.
You are most welcome to come visit us.
