– Villa Castro is situated within a (by now ruined) medieval castle that was built during the 15th century by the Knights Hospitaller in order to fortify the traditional village of Koskinou.

– Villa Castro is located at the dead end of a pedestrian alley used only by the very few nearby residents. Hence, the villa is in a very quiet neighborhood offering a perfect place for relaxation.

Lo spazio
15th Century, stone-built renovated traditional village house.

Immediate surroundings

– Villa Castro is situated within a (by now ruined) medieval castle that was built during the 15th century by the Knights Hospitaller in order to fortify the traditional village of Koskinou. At the very top of the stone-built gate that is located exactly next to the main entrance of Villa Castro one can still see an engraved "1402" which is the year that the gate was actually erected.

– Villa Castro is located at the dead end of a pedestrian alley used only by the very few nearby residents. Hence, the villa is in a very quiet neighborhood offering a perfect place for relaxation.

– Along the narrow alleys of the villa's neighborhood are colorful hoses featuring traditional facets which are very popular subjects of photography. Without doubt though, the most rewarding experience while walking around Koskinou village is meeting the villagers themselves who always seem to have the time to welcome visitors for a chat or for a cup of greek coffee, while they are eager to answer questions about anything. These are people that do not occupy themselves with new technologies and social media and are not interested in how branded one looks or how much one's car at home might be worth. These are people that live to live and are proud to share their philosophy with the visitors.

Amenities
Within 2-3 minutes walking distance from the villa you can find:
4 local eating places (Yannis Taverna, Tasos Taverna, Mandala, Kotsakis souvlaki - all favorites in their own right), 3 coffee/pastry places (all located in the main square of the village of Koskinou), a mini market (with daily fresh vegetable/fruits and baked bread), a butcher (offering an excellent quality of local produce), and a traditional tailor.

Several big supermarkets are located within 5-10 minutes drive from Koskinou village.

Description of Villa Castro (sleeps 4 + 1 persons)

The western wall of the main sala (living room) of the villa is actually the inner side of the wall of the (by now ruined) medieval fort that used to protect the village of Koskinou. In Greek “Castro” means “Castle”, hence the name of the villa.
This naturally imposing wall seems to have the ability to compel guests to enter a stage of relaxation. The villa's courtyard is another definite favorite place for unwinding while getting engaged in either private or communal activities.

The villa features antique furniture and handcrafted wooden structures. The traditional lime painting methods applied throughout the villa have created a healthy environment.

Main sala: Spacious 38m² / 410ft² living room, supported by a stoned arch 5 meter (16.5 ft) high. It features a sitting area (which includes a 220cm (87 inch) long wooden handcrafted couch which can accommodate one sleeper), a dining area, while its exceptionally high ceiling gives room for two traditional wooden carved "pataros" (high level handcrafted sleeping places) each one of which accommodates two sleepers and is separated with the rest of the sala by curtains for privacy. Two simple ceiling cupolas allow for daylight to comfortably enter the sala.

Courtyard: (about 15m² / 160ft²) Cozy and private open space for relaxing or dining, shaded by a wild fig tree and a mulberry tree.

Terrace: (about 9m² / 96ft²) Accessed from the sala via a wooden staircase, it is popular for pre-noon sunbathing.

Bedroom 1&2: Two traditional wooden carved "pataros" (handcrafted sleeping platforms) accessed by purpose-built wooden staircases are located across each other within the main sala . Each one of those pataros accommodates two sleepers and is separated with the rest of the sala by curtains for privacy.
THERE IS ACTUALLY ONLY ONE BEDROOM which is the main sala of the villa, the room where traditionally the sleeping places ("pataros") were constructed.

Kitchen: Fully equipped + clothes' washing machine.

Bathroom: Bathtub, basin, shower, WC. Hot water.

Internet: Cable & Wi-Fi. Password given on the 1st encounter with the guests.

TV: Flat screen TV.

Air Condition: Available optionally.

Heating in winter: Electric heater.

Parking: Private parking space for one car is available 10 meters from the villa.

Check-in: 16.00hrs
Check-out: 11.00hrs
Earlier check in and later check out can be arranged subject to availability.

Meeting point with the arriving guests:
Guests will be met in front of JASMINE CAFE at the main square of Koskinou village, which is a mere two minutes walking distance from the villa. The villa can also be reached by car.

Accesso per gli ospiti
Guests can access the whole house. This villa is an independent house.

Villas of RhodesTraditionalHousesGR
All three properties are very close to each other. Villa Gremos & Villa Castro are separated by a wall, while Villa Mouria is only three walking minutes away from the other two villas.
All the three villas are located within a short walking distance from the main square of Koskinou village.

Parking
The guests have below options:
1. Park at the main square of Koskinou and stroll through the winding alleys of the village until they reach the villa, or
2. Park near the villa as follows:
- VILLA CASTRO (1 private parking space) situated 10 meters from the villa
- VILLA GREMOS (1 private parking space) situated 40 meters from the villa
- VILLA MOURIA public parking available at 60-100 meters from the villa.

Mediterranean Cooking
(Available optionally)
Greek cuisine lesson day. Starts with getting the ingredients while touring the open AIR FRUIT AND VEGETABLE market (“LAIKI”) of the city of Rhodes. Return to the villa and participate in preparing popular greek dishes. Getting accustomed with the spices of the Greek cuisine and of course enjoy eating what was cooked. Free house wine provided.

Beaches
There are many beaches only about 5-10 minutes drive from the square of Koskinou. Just to name three of the most popular ones:
- Kalithea Springs (renovated thermal bathing springs with candle light dining available during weekends),
- Tasos Beach (consisting of a combination of a sand beach and rock formations with an excellent choice of drinks/food available at its restaurant),
- Oasis Beach (featuring a dedicated DJ whose music is very popular with the younger crowds).

Eating OUT
There are four restaurants within a three minute walking distance from each one of our villas (Villa Castro, Villa Mouria, Villa Gremos):
- Yannis Taverna,
- Tasos Taverna (NOT to be confused with Tasos Beach mentioned above ! ! ! ),
- Mandala (with live music), and
- Kotsakis Souvlaki.
They all serve Greek food and they all put their tables in the street alleys (where cars are not allowed to pass). BTW, it is not uncommon for customers to drive from far away just to eat at those places.

There are also three places serving breakfast/coffee/snacks which are located in the main square of Koskinou village (Jasmine Cafe is the latest addition), a mere three minute walking distance from any of our villas.

Even though there are so many eating spots near our villas the houses themselves are very quiet. Villa Castro is located at the dead end of an alley; Villa Mouria is located on a village road that is hardly ever used by cars; Villa Gremos is located on a pedestrian alley.

YOU CAN READ AND SEE PHOTOS OF ALL THE BEACHES AND THE EATING PLACES MENTIONED ABOVE BY SIMPLY GOOGLING THEIR NAMES.

Eating IN
We can arrange for either breakfast and/or dinner to be served in any of our villas (Villa Castro, Villa Mouria, Villa Gremos) at a price of 5-12 euro per person depending on the guests' choice (greek, continental, english, indonesian).

My name is Stelios Scordilis and I am Greek. I studied economics in England and Holland and then spent time in Singapore and Indonesia. Some years ago I fell in love with Arleika (who is now my wife) and with the village of Koskinou. It was only natural for us to move to Koskinou in Rhodes, the place that we decided that our two children would love to grow up in. We always look forward to accommodate guests in our Villas which are a few centuries old and renovated with full respect to traditional architecture and material used.
