Tucked away and out of sight, our 23 ft custom built Yurt sits on a beautiful, PRIVATE lazy river in the middle of a 700 acre farm up the road from Algonquin Provincial Park N. The beauty of the natural world is all around us and FALL is finally here. One of our most cherished seasons here in Algonquin Park for so many reasons. Here at the Buffalo Farm you'll be surrounded by some of the most vivid and vibrant FALL colours in a back drop tapestry as far as the eyes can see. Immerse yourself in one of the most beautiful times of year. Famous around the world for the colours, this is peak season for photographers, hikers, canoe and kayak enthusiasts. Tour the river in the early parts of the morning, the crispy morning sun and fog make for a majestic experience.

@thebuffalofarm FALL and WINTER yurt experience is one not to miss! Take your morning coffee or tea down to the river cabana and watch the sun come up and sparkle over the lazy river.
If you are a photographer, hiker, fisher, painter, blogger or nature lover...this is the season for you! You will find yourself buried in beautiful crisp foggy sunrises and sunsets.

Things to do :

The EAU CLAIRE Gorge is located minutes from the farm and is a beautiful site at any time of the year. The water that falls over its face is flowing from Algonquin Park via the Amable Du Fond river which is the same river that the yurt sits on. Definitely worth checking out.

Maybe you want to just cozy up inside with a book and apple cider, board game, crafts or lay in bed and watch the clouds pass through the skylight. There is a wood stove that will keep you nice and warm throughout your fall season stay. You can make all kinds of fun WINTER treats on the wood stove including Warm apple cider, Hot chocolate, Herbal Teas etc!
We supply wood for both the campfire and wood stove. There is no electricity so anything you want to cook will be done on the campfire or wood stove. Get creative! This can be really fun. Pinterest is a great place to search for fun and creative things you can do without electricity!

There is a Cabana outside the yurt overlooking the river which is perfect for doing yoga or relaxing in the recliners, eating meals and reading books!
Secluded, rustic, cozy and picturesque!
Your WINTER YURT experience will be one that you won't forget.

Special Summer/Fall Experiences:

The Horse Sanctuary – The Buffalo Farm is a sanctuary for 14 rescued horses and is part of a local network that saves dozens of horses every year. You are invited to an intimate and guided interaction with our horses to meet them, hear their stories, pet and groom them. This is a very special experience which our guests invariably love. Please let us know upon arrival if you'd like to book a tour. As much as we'd like to show everyone the horses and spend time together, we are also a working farm from sunrise to sunset and there is the odd occasion where we might be busy and we might not be able to do the tour (rare circumstances )
For this, we ask for a minimum contribution of $30 per hour for the first person and $15 per hour for each additional adult, kids are free. These contributions will help us maintain our herd and help our network rescue and care for more horses.
"The horses were the true stars of this trip: getting to pet them, hear their stories from Javid, plus the girls getting to ride the largest one - those are memories that will last a lifetime."

Activities throughout the year:
(some on property - some nearby)
-Wildlife photography
-Maple syrup collection
- Yoga/meditation retreats
-Cooking courses
-Pick your own garden
- Guided Lazy river Excursion
-Livestock interaction/ Farm tours

Guests have access to 700 acres on our property. There are a combined 10km of trails for guests to hike, snow shoe, cross country ski and more! This is a very remote and secluded location.

Ask us anything ! Hosts are on site and give you a walkie-talkie to communicate with them

As the weeks roll forward we are starting to warm up! However we have to depend on the wood stove to keep us warm and for cooking. We would like to make sure our guests are confident in tending to a fire. The yurt is setup for a few people with 1 bed but can easily be setup to accommodate 8 people with 4 beds.

Accesso ospiti

You can access the amiable du fond river just a few feet away from the yurt. You can hike a 2 km trail nearby or tour the pastures and property by foot.
Algonquin park northern kiosk is ten minutes from us and the way Claire gorge is about 4 minutes away.

Interazione con gli ospiti

We check in all of our guests personally. We take the time to introduce ourselves and welcome you into our homes. During this time guests can rent a canoe and also hear about some of the other activities in the area.

We went up there during Thanksgiving weekend and it is our first time with Yurt. The Yurt is warm and setting is pretty cozy. The farm is close to Algonquin park, where the view is amazing and not crowded at all. The bunny on the farm is really really cute! We had a good time!

This place is absolute heaven! My partner and I got engaged the day before our visit and the farm was such an amazing & romantic place to enjoy each other. We stayed in the older yurt for one night - such a gorgeous stay. We visited the horses at sunrise our first night and the next morning woke up early to enjoy the rolling fog. It was all breath taking. The Gibson's are an inspiring family in how they are living their lives and giving back to this earth. We are looking forward to visiting again soon! - Terri & Kelly

The place is exactly what the photos show you. Amazing place and a great getaway. There is something about being One with nature. Loved swimming off the banks of the river. The hosts were amazing and always responsive to any requests or questions asked. A unique experience. Thank you.

We got engaged at the Buffalo Farm!!! We cannot thank our hosts enough for helping my fiancé organize the most amazing proposal ever. Everything from the homemade Buffalo farm candles to the forged wild flowers from the farm made the evening that much special. This is a day we will never forget. Staying in the yurt was a great experience for us. The yurt was very clean and the bedding was very clean and comfortable. We were provided everything we needed from life jackets to cooking supplies. When we stayed at the Yurt it was very hot outside (30 degrees). The river that flowed beside the yurt was a perfect way to cool down. We spent the day canoeing and swimming at the sandy beach across from the yurt. Our dog also loved her stay. She spent the entire day swimming and chasing chipmunks. During our stay we were able to see and hear some wildlife. In the evening we saw a beaver swimming in the river and listened to coyote's howl during the night. Thank you again for being such great hosts! We plan to come back in the winter and stay in the new yurt that is currently being built. Ashley & Dan

This was an amazing adventure for us. Cooking on campfire was delicious! The linens and bed were luxury. Great sleeps. Very secluded spot along the river. Just delightful. The love and care given to the horses and cattle were very impressive. This family are very welcoming and easily approachable for any concerns during your stay. We will definitely be back. Thanks for a wonderful time. Debbie and Rodney
