Watch the boats go by, play in the McKenzie Valley! Experience a newly rebuilt, small but spacious cabin right on the McKenzie River. Salvaged from an old historic cabin, this place has new comforts and old soul. This rental supports sustainability, restoration of the river ecosystem and local jobs.
The shared living spaces are open and light. You will find a variety of wood building materials throughout the house- some new, some salvaged from the original cabin. You can fish from the lower covered porch (with licenses) - the drift boats seem to have success just up river and down river of the cabin. Reservoir recreation areas and hot springs are approx. 20 minute drive east. Extensive hiking and mountain biking and winter sports are within 30-60 minute drive. You are welcome to sleep out on the deck or on the covered porch or put tents in the covered porch area under the house if that is your preferred way to enjoy the river in the summer. I developed this place as an example of living simply, in small spaces, while being able to comfortably cook and share meals and enjoy the amazing beauty of the earth.
Feel good about renting this space: I am continually striving to increase the sustainability of this cabin. I only employ local caretakers and annually invest in more restoration and maintenance along the river. I invest in community based social equality and environmental education in the U.S. and abroad and your financial support of this rental helps provide this work free of charge.
For sure I hope you feel the welcoming, positive energy of my family and friends and all the wonderful people who have rented before you! Cheers :)
The full house, under the house and the up river side of the house. The down river side yard is undergoing environmental restoration.

I will not be available during your stay. There are care takers a few cabins down that will make sure everything is set up for you.
Altre cose da evidenziare
This cabin is right on the river and right on the highway. There are 3 parking spots that pull straight off the highway. Kids should be supervised when close to the river or on the highway side of the house. At this time not all cell providers get reception on large parts of the McKenzie Hwy. Verizon and Sprint seem to get service. T-Mobile does not. Currently there is no wifi at the cabin. Access to groceries and gas are limited. Make sure and stock up in Springfield if coming from the West. Sisters/Bend if coming from the East. The Vida store to the West of the cabin, Rainbow store to the East will take care of the basics plus a little extra if needed. You are on the river, so there are bugs. Don't be surprised to come across some at some point on your stay - there is bug killer (I hate to use it, but...) under the kitchen sink if there is a nest that is in a really bad place for humans and the house. There are a few citronella candles and a small fan that can be used to keep the little ones away from you on the deck at night if needed.
No smoking. No trash in the river- no exceptions! If something falls/breaks from the deck, go clean it up. Pets allowed case by case only, you must call me. Take care of things, be adults. Kids should wear life vests when on the lower level - the McKenzie is fast and cold. Laundry and dishes must be started before check out.

I love people, I love the world. This vacation rental is one way I stay connected to my family in Oregon and the amazing natural environment of Oregon (I'm from there) and it helps fund the social and environmental work I do that doesn't pay the income to equal the value it provides for all of us. I'm happy to you have you share this beautiful place. Be comfortable, take care of it, enjoy it like it is your own for a few days. :)
