Private bedroom with queen-size bed, and private dedicated bathroom with shower/bathtub, and 2 sinks.

This colorful and tranquil room is spacious (12x13’, 3.7x4m) and includes a comfy queen-sized bed with high quality linens and plenty of closet space (hanging and drawers) plus a handy luggage rack. Your private dedicated bathroom, located 2.5’ (76cm) from the bedroom door, is stocked with luxurious necessities and Abyss brand towels. If you need to work from home, make use of the comfortable and efficient setup which includes the large desk (cm), a 20” (50cm) Apple monitor, and a fully adjustable office chair. Relax at the end of the day watching your own 20” (50cm) TV and TiVo, or listen to music streamed from your device to a bluetooth speaker.

Our tranquil, tree-lined residential neighborhood is perfect for walking and biking. The solidly-built home was constructed in 2005 and still feels brand new. Though the neighborhood is very safe, the home includes a multi-layered security system. The homeowner is an avid gardener and the garden is ablaze with her favorite flower, dahlias, from June through October.

Please enjoy the two rooms nearest the front door downstairs - the dining room and formal living room.

During the summer, relax in the gazebo on the patio (the gazebo is stored from November through March or so). The landscaping is designed to attract both butterflies and hummingbirds, so you will have company as you bask in the sun! Year-round, there’s a fountain with a lovely trickling sound that’s extremely relaxing and attracts many varieties of birds.

Guests have access to the kitchen for preparing coffee/tea and basic meals. Because your host is an avid cook and baker, the kitchen is often in use. You are welcome to store a few items in the refrigerator. For substantial meals, please see the attached list of both delivery options and restaurants within walking distance. Just FYI, your host enjoys having the news on in the background -- you are welcome to join her for BC viewing if so inclined, but don’t even think about changing the channel! ;)

Interaction tailored to your wishes. I’m happy to answer questions and chat if desired. Ideal guests would be out and about during weekday business hours as I work from home, but this is not a dealbreaker. If I’m not working, you’ll find me in the garden or kitchen/great room cooking with the aforementioned BC on in the background.

We are very conveniently situated in the heart of Silicon Valley. This is a very quiet and safe neighborhood, great for walking, with gorgeous tall trees including CA Oak trees and small groves of Redwood trees.

The home is 2.5 miles from the Menlo Park Caltrain station and a 35-minute drive to/from SFO. We are close to the 208 and the 101. Uncovered street parking is plentiful, easily available both day and night, and spacious enough for any size vehicle.

Distance to local points of interest:
1.4 miles from Stanford University
2.3 miles from downtown Menlo Park
3.7 miles from downtown Palo Alto
6.5 miles from Mark Zuckerberg's Company
11.5 miles from Larry and Sergey's Company
2.2 miles from “The Dish” at Stanford - great outdoor space with sweeping views of the Silicon Valley to run/hike in.
1.2 miles from Sand Hill Road
2.0 miles from SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory

Walking distance from restaurants/cafes in west Menlo Park: Starbucks; Lulu’s on the Alameda (excellent Mexican food); Dutch Goose (burgers); Avanti Pizza & Pasta; Flea Street Cafe; Lutticken’s; Plantation Deli Cafe; and small convenience store/deli: Country Corner.
Also walking distance from several dry cleaners, a yoga studio, an ATM at Chase Bank, a gas station, and a “blow dry bar” if urgent hair styling is needed!

If the rental bedroom window is open during the day, you will hear the sound of rush-hour traffic on the north/south street 2 houses away. It’s not a big street, it’s only 1 lane in each direction, but it’s well-used during daylight hours. At night its use drops to a very low flow, so even with the window open, cars are few and far between and it’s very quiet.

During the summer, the home is cooled by the upstairs A/C (kept at 73 degrees or the homeowner will turn to ice). If you prefer a cooler temperature for sleeping, you’re in luck! Menlo Park summer nights often dip into high 50s/ low 60s, so an open bedroom window will keep you cool. In the winter, the heat is turned off overnight and is set to the low 70s during the day.

We are complying with local tax laws, therefore 10% of the rental fee is reserved to pay San Mateo County's "Transient Occupancy Tax" (TOT).

My stay here felt like being in a high-priced resort without the high prices; very comfortable, very quiet, and lots of amenities. The bed is super comfortable; the private bathroom is literally two steps from the bedroom, and the backyard is like a resort in Hawaii, an oasis of greenery and flowers. My host was very welcoming, and showed me how to use the house alarm; I got a unique code so I could come and go as I pleased. I was glad there was a desk in the room, as I brought my laptop, so it was very convenient and not a lot of guest rooms have a desk. The location is fantastic and I would definitely stay here again!

Babette's home is gorgeous!! The room is lovely and the bed is super comfy-- difficult to leave. As a host she was positive and welcoming- there was a cute tray with water and a snack bar waiting for me, which was a nice touch. Towels and bedding were fresh and clean, and the private bathroom was right next to the room. Everything was clean and very organized-- definitely made me want to step it up at my own place. The decor is cute too- the room is a fun purple and had whimsical details, as well as cool art by the host. Highly recommended!!

We are: a serial entrepreneur / former high-tech employee, who works from home by day and gardens outdoors like a fiend after business hours. My boyfriend Mihail works nearby from 10am - 7pm. Since I do work from home, just an FYI if anyone is planning to work from the guest room by day, I typically have paid a professional coming in (bookkeeper, tech support, assistant) to help out in my home office between 10am - 5/6pm 1-2 days per week. We are not loud, and it's typically just one person + me.

I spend lots of time in the kitchen/great room area, cooking, photographing the flowers I grow, etc etc, and often have the TV on, but keep the volume at a non-invasive level.

Love touches of luxury and our home reflects that. I'm an Italo-phile, speak quasi-decent Italian, travel to Italy every year to visit friends in Roma. Mihail is originally from Romania and has a cute accent to prove it. I'm a movie-aholic, love everything ranging from ye olde films from Hollywood's Golden Age, to quiet films with great dialogue, to loud summer blockbusters. Love the SF Bay Area culture and incredible variety of delicious foods. HUGE progressive/liberal. Am also a Dahlia grower (Mihail helps to garden/tend them with me). I photograph them for fun and profit, and you'll find a variety of dahlia canvases and tile coasters decorating the house, including the guest room. Mihail loves cycling and exploring bike routes along the Peninsula.

AS GUESTS: we have a very light "footprint". Not messy or stinky (egad!), non-smokers, quiet - yet friendly. We like to get out and explore any area we're visiting on foot! Looove looking-lou-ing, window shopping, museum-going, dining out. And meeting new peeps. :)
