BEAUTIFUL HISTORIC CASITA is secluded yet an easy walk to the plaza!
Rich in history, this home was originally Saint Teresa's Mission in the late 1800's. It became part of the Mabel Dodge Luhan Estate in the 1930's. During that time influential guests, including Ansel Adams and D.H. Lawrence were inspired to create, cavort and exchange intellectual ideas at the many salons hosted here. Victor Higgins, member of the infamous Taos Society of Artists, housed his studio here. The home is presently a Registered Historic Landmark.
Bordered by sacred Taos Pueblo land, the views are vast and the light ever changing. Georgia O'Keefe was inspired to paint her famous cross series upon seeing the light play on the old morada which sits behind the house.
This newly restored casita has rich, fine furnishings and a soulful feel that welcomes and nourishes.
The master bedroom features a Tempurpedic king sized bed dressed with luxurious linens, a TV with DVD library and an historic book collection.
A full bath with large closet, writing desk and concealed washer and dryer combo is directly off the master bedroom.
The cozy living room has a kiva fireplace surrounded by cushy velveteen sofas, one of which is a queen sleeper.
The fully equipped vintage kitchen includes a quaint dining area and settee which converts to a sleeper.
The garden courtyard surrounds a Japanese Maple tree and has a kiva style BBQ grill, hot tub and large dining table.
Wonderful views from each artwork adorned room. All artwork and sculptures available for sale.
Sleeps up to 6. Port-a-crib available.
Casita Morada was very lovely and the locale was great!
Lovely accommodations. Jessica is a great host!
Very nice property. Vintage means what it means. Kind of old and thread bare but the location made up for it. Property is clean and neat. The yard area is beautiful yet overgrown and needs tlc to really shine.
For the price and ability to walk to main town it is well worth it
We are glad we chose the Casita Morada to stay in in Taos.Previously we had stayed in a a B and B and a motel. It is within walking distance of downtown, but situated in an area with great quiet, character and privacy. Taos mountain and the Taos Pueblo lands are directly in back. We enjoyed the generous amount of space and "suite" of rooms in Casita Morada, and could feel the history of the place, as evidenced by the paintings on the walls, as well as the excellent tour we took of the Mabel Dodge Luhan house nearby, The house has its own kind of early twentieth century artistic elegance, ( as well asa washer-drier, kitchen facilities and jacuzzi, which we enjoyed immensely), but if you are looking for ultra-luxury you probably should stay elsewhere. Jessica lives nearby and was helpful whenever we had any questions about the facilities or the area. The Casita Morita is truly one of a kind!, and our stay was one of the highlights of our recent one week trip to New Mexico!
Jessica was a great host. The historic casita was just as advertised, in a great central location with lots of character! Beautiful grounds and accommodations, made this the perfect spring skiing weekend!
Beautiful and enchanted place 5 minutes walk from Taos center. We have stayed there twice now, and it's never long enough. Can't wait to go back. Cozy, romantic, very special. Jessica is a 5-star host, even though we haven't met her yet - she is very responsive to calls/emails, and makes sure the place is perfectly set up for our stay. Simply amazing.
Thank you Jessica!! Thank you Casita Morada.

First class AirBnB experience. Beautiful property. Terrific host. Will definitely come to this place again. Best wishes to you, Jessica!!
This is our second Christmas at Casita Morada, and once again we enjoyed the coziness and location of Casita Morada.
My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Casita Morada, which is on a beautifully maintained and renovated historic adobe estate walking distance from Taos Plaza yet removed enough from it to be quiet and restful. We particularly appreciated the comfortable furnishings and lovely art, interesting books on the art history of the area and the gardens. After a day of hiking, the hot tub was amazing! Honey the dog and Groucho the cat were fine company in the garden.
We had a wonderful time. The history, comfort, location and hospitality were top-notch. It's rare when reality exceeds expectations. Everything was great and we hope to stay there again on our next visit.
