The lodge belonging to Kumasanso is huge & spacious with the capacity of 8 to 10 persons. So with just 2 of us, it was nice and almost resort like. Best of all Biratori is in a quite place not too far from Sapporo. There was a food festival on the Sunday we were there at a community park, so it was very merry place. Plus the weather was superb & sunny, but the very next day Typhoon hit southern Hokkaido bringing lots of rain & high winds. There's also a Ainu museum & cultural centre which is quite interesting. As for food, there's Biratori wahyu or Biratori beef, add famous as Kobe wahyu.
The house was unexpectedly located uphill but we loved it. It's a quiet place with no convenient stores. Thanks to Kumasanso for informing and ensure we had enough food for dinner. Kumasanso and wife Achiko (hope the name is correct) offered morning breakfast at minimal fee for my family of 5. Food served at their home next door -- vegetable mostly farm-grown by them and Kumasanso made an effort to serve us fishes that he caught in the morning! Achiko also gave us organic tomatoes and miso paste! Too bad it was raining and we should have stayed for 2 more days to experience the farm life.
