You will never forget your stay in this luxuriously appointed, utterly charming and vintage "jewel box" of a house in the Zilker Park neighborhood. The charm of our Zilker Cottage is exceeded only by its perfect location.
This is an original vintage (approximately 650 square feet) 1940's Zilker Cottage in the very BEST location within 1/2 mile from DOWNTOWN AUSTIN with a cozy bedroom, bathroom, living room, dining room, huge kitchen, and vine covered front porch. Street parking is available (for free) directly in front of the house about 25 feet from the front door. You can look forward to staying so close to downtown but in a safe, upscale, and cool Zilker residence. Best of both worlds.
The Enchanting Zilker Cottage (pictured above) is located in front and is completely private and all yours to enjoy! It has a covered front porch/seating area and a front yard area (not fenced) exclusively for you. There are 2 other residences on the property towards the south end of the property accessible through the side backyard gate entrance. The following are some details about your Enchanting Zilker Cottage...
Enjoy this private bedroom with it's original hard wood floors and gorgeous antique door knobs, flat screen TV including cable, WiFi internet, Sealy Posturepedic Sotherby PLUSH queen sized mattress, fluffy topper, GOOSE down comforter with 100% cotton duvet cover, Egyptian cotton linens, Egyptian cotton pillow cases, and sturdy/elegant Eddie Bauer bed frame. The room is small measuring 12 x 12 with the majority of space taken by the huge bed for sleeping comfort. Closet includes wind-up alarm clock, ironing board, iron, plenty of room to hang clothes, many shelves for storing belongings, and two huge maps of Austin. The petite bathroom has hard wood floors, a full bathtub/shower (if you're tall...not a problem...high ceiling), hand soap, lotion, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, Yardley bar soap, and comfy all cotton towels also provided. (We recommend you bring beach towels for off site use). The sink and tub are both original to the house (cast iron) and restored. I did, however, replace the white surround tile around the bathtub...I couldn't salvage the old tile :( All bathroom appliances (faucets, toilet, etc) are new, as well.
The kitchen is gorgeous with an antique chandelier, gas stove, microwave, refrigerator, toaster oven, coffee maker, ceramic teapot, kettle, blender, pots/pans, FILTERED water system on sink, and tons of dishes in the event you would like to cook and dine in.
Living room ~
I have a beautiful saddle leather sofa, huge coffee table, with lots of Austin and Texas themed books and magazines on hand to read, as well.
Dining room ~
There's a fantastic mango wood dining room table (bar height) which comfortably sits four people...this is also a great place to get comfortable with lap tops, read newspaper, etc. as there is plenty of table space. It's also ideal for a great meal with friends and family!
This house is in Zilker, a residential neighborhood in south-downtown Austin that adjoins Zilker Park, 351 acres on the Colorado River. Within the park is Barton Springs, a large, naturally fed swimming pool. The nearest commercial corridor, South Lamar Boulevard, is one block away, and has many restaurants, coffee shops, and music venues. About a mile away, there’s South Congress Avenue, a strip lined with restaurants, bars, vintage shops and stores like Allens Boots, which carries over 4,000 pairs of cowboy boots, along with hats and pearl-button shirts.
If you book a stay here (I can't emphasize this enough) please consider walking/running/biking this area as it offers incredible homes to admire, the famous Hike and Bike Trail on Town Lake, Zilker Park, Barton Springs Pool, Umlauf Sculpture Gardens, Botanical Gardens, restaurants galore (including the famous "Uchi" sushi restaurant 1 block down the street), Alamo Drafthouse, etc, etc, etc. This is a very cool and historical area of town and I encourage you to take advantage of this location. If you are bringing your bike(s), please feel free to leave them inside your house :)
Plentiful outside the house on the street. There is a private driveway, however, this is for use for my backyard tenant. We have unlimited street parking right in front of the house for your convenience (located about 20 feet directly in front of the front door/porch)
There is also public transportation with the nearest bus stop less than a block away on Lamar Boulevard/Treadwell Avenue in Austin, Texas 78704. The bus can take you to 6th Street (downtown), the Warehouse district (downtown), the 22 acres of the Texas Capitol (downtown), the University of Texas campus; or the Austin Convention Center to name a few destinations. Cab fare is about $5 to downtown - it's only 1/4 mile away.
