After getting slightly lost in the dark and being rescued by a local taxi driver, we parked in the garage and we were greeted by a bottle of Mallorcan wine and the sound of the sea lapping below.
We had requested a late arrival due to flight times, and although there was a delay in confirming this, it was fine and arrangements were made for us to access the house at midnight.
The following morning we were greeted by Alona's parents and a basket of fresh vegetables from their own garden!
The house is lovely and is in a stunning location overlooking cliffs and the sea. We probably spent most of the week sitting on the terrace under the umbrella watching the world go by!
Unfortunately being next to an area of amazing natural beauty it is very popular with day trippers, so the tiny village is invaded everyday by cars and beach goers. This causes a constant flow of traffic around the house. However, once you've tuned this out, you can watch the police put parking tickets on the ones parked in front of the property (don't park on the yellow lines or it's a €100 fine). The design of the terrace also means you are still private and out of view.
The house had everything we needed and was very comfortable. The garage is a bonus when everyone is struggling to find parking.
There are 3 main beach areas to walk down to, one Calo de Moros is sandy, beautiful, very small and very popular. Go early or late for the quiet times, but be prepared to be cozy or just putting your stuff on a rock and sitting at the edge of the lapping waves at busy times. The other 2 Cala S'Almunia are rocky so take beach shoes. The climb down is quite tricky in places but gets easier the more you do it. Don't carry too much!
Directions - follow the signs around Santanyi towards Es Lombards. Once you leave the town follow the road to the roundabout where the first exit goes to Es Llombards and take the second exit to Cala Llombards. Follow the road, which goes around a bend to the left (not straight on at the fork). Follow the road for a couple of miles until you reach the 60 (might be 70) sign, then the 40 sign. Slow down and just before 2 more 40 signs you turn right at a White House with squares in garden the wall. There is no sign post. If you get to the Cala Llombards map/sign you've gone too far.
Follow this road which turns sharp left then sharp right. Go straight on, then left into the oneway system. The house is on the fourth right turn.
We will miss sitting on the terrace watching the moon, stars, listening to the sea and relaxing.
The only thing missing according to my kids was an infinity pool on the roof!
Thanks Alona and family!
