Il quartiere

Angate Cottage is an ideal base for those who wish to explore the idyllic countryside of Weardale. Fishing, walking and cycling routes are nearby.

Wolsingham is a thriving visitor stopping off point at the base of the Weardale valley.

The oldest houses in Wolsingham are at Whitfield Place on Front Street, there are three cottages, the left-most dated 1677 and with the initials 'DM'.

The other properties here have an even longer history. They are said to have been converted from the former Pack Horse Inn where Edward III may have rested on returning from his unfruitful encounter with the Scots in Weardale in April 1327. Another king, Charles II, is said to have ridden his horse up the internal staircase of the house in the 17th century and it still has an impressive staircase today.

Wolsingham Agricultural Society holds its annual show on the first weekend in September, with a daily attendance of over 30,000. Established in 1763 it is one of the oldest show in the country and brings in animals and visitors from a wide area.

Wolsingham is served by the heritage Weardale Railway, whose trains run from Bishop Auckland to Stanhope, including special steam train services, the highlight of the year being the Polar Express at Christmas time.

Weardale boasts one of the only outdoor heated swimming pools located 6 miles from the cottage.
Wolsingham boasts a bistro, cafe, bakery, public houses, Italian restaurant and Chinese takeaway. There is also a local Spa, pharamacist, butchers and cash point.

The cottage is located in the heart of the historic + charming village of Wolsingham. The owners have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. I particularly loved the rear kitchen/dining/living area which opens up to a small garden. Great spot for singles, couples or small families.

We had a great two nights at the cottage. Everything was just as we needed it and we enjoyed the cosy cottage very much. Great to be able to wander into the village in a few minutes and explore. We would certainly recommend the cottage.

Angate Cottage is delightful. It is well located in the centre of Wolsingham which has a pub, restaurant, grocery store and lovely park. The cottage itself was spotlessly clean, well equipped and very comfortable. The Durham Dales are beautiful with some lovely walks and Durham itself is definitely worth visiting with it's spectacular cathedral, castle, cobbled streets and alleyways.

This place is brilliant. Great village with the amazing Durham dales on your doorstep, it's remote enough to make you feel as though you left the city behind but still has everything you need on your doorstep. The cottage is lovely, kept by people who clearly have a real affection for their place and the area. Comfy beds and a great fish and chip shop over the road - it is a proper little home from home and I loved staying at Angate cottage whilst working in the area on and off for last 18 months. . Only thing I'd change is the chip shop opening hours - he only frys on weds, Fri & Saturday which is a kick in the teeth if you turn up on a Thursday!

I live with my partner Kevin and our two daughters Meghan (19) and Emily (13) in a small market town in County Durham, North East England.
I enjoy keeping fit and amateur dramatics. My daughters are both guitarists and Meghan has been gigging since she was 14. Kevin is an amateur archeologist spending most of his weekend out with his metal detector on the fields.
Our recenty acquired period cottage is located in the heart of Wolsingham and we look forward to welcoming guests to enjoy the beauty and tranquilty of Weardale.
