This dramatic and handsome converted 19th century barn serves as my guest quarters. The top floor, with two bedrooms each with bath en suite, is for your exclusive use while enjoying a serene stay just outside the charming Village of Rhinebeck.

Soaring cathedral ceilings , rustic exposed beams and loads of light set the tone for this dramatic and unique space. The private entrance and stair up to the entire top floor is for your use alone and isn't shared with any other guests. Each of the two bedroom suites has it's own bathroom with jacuzzi tub and skylight, decorative fireplace, seating area and french doors to a private deck with table and chairs. In the hallway between the two bedrooms there is a breakfast "mini bar" (NOT A FULL KITCHEN) which features a refrigerator, Keurig coffee machine, electric kettle and microwave oven and is stocked with coffees, teas, treats, hot cocoa and bottled water. The space is comfortably furnished with an eclectic mix of new and antique furniture, original artwork and prints with luxurious bedding and towels for your comfort. Also available for your use; an iron and ironing board, hair dryers in each bathroom, bath oils and bubbles, Scrabble and backgammon and a fully equipped picnic basket.

This historic house and the barn once had a life as a true Bed & Breakfast and a few remnants of that period remain, namely the kitchy names for the guest rooms. The "Fox Den" looks out over gardens and the house beyond and has a queen sized bed and seating areas with a few steps leading up to it's bathroom. The "Huntsman's Hideaway" overlooks woods and has a king sized bed and a pull out sofa.

The house is located just outside of the Village, and is set far from the road, accessed through a long gated private driveway. We share the driveway with our two neighbors and multitudes of deer, wild turkeys, foxes and other critters so drive with caution as you approach.

PLEASE NOTE : Cell service can be spotty here as we are in the country after all, so be prepared to unplug more than usual and enjoy the serenity. The WiFi has recently been improved so it should be better now ( 12/2016) than some of the reviews suggest. If a guest has left a baby at home or may need an emergency back up please let me know and I can arrange it so that I can always be reached on your behalf.

Guests have their own parking area which is separate from the main house, exclusive use of the top floor of the guest house and it's two decks and are welcome to quietly enjoy the grounds which include a pond stocked with colorful Koi fish, the vegetable/cutting garden, perennial gardens and a hammock to relax in.

I will personally greet guests whenever possible and give them the overview...after that you will be left to enjoy the privacy of the space and grounds. I will have books and suggestions for you if you want input on your stay.

Altre cose da evidenziare

The Dutchess County Fairgrounds has events all season long including Food and Wine festivals, Craft Fair, Antiques Fair, the county fair and my personal favorite, the Sheep and Wool festival in the fall. Additionally there is the Rhinebeck Aerodrome for vintage airplane shows, tours of wonderful Hudson River Houses such as FDR's home and presidential library in Hyde Park, the Vanderbilt and Mills Mansions of the Guilded Age, and Wilderstein right in Rhinebeck. Hudson is a 30 minute drive due north if you want to spend the day rubbing shoulders with the discreet country version of NYC's hip and chic or antiquing beyond what Rhinebeck has to (URL HIDDEN) stopping at Olana ( the quirky and fabulous moorish inspired home of painter Frederick Church) as well as nibble your way from farm stand to farm stand there and back. For outdoor activities there are plenty of hikes locally with the lovely and contemplative Poets Walk right on the river, and Ferncliff Forest which are both in Rhinebeck, or a 25 minute drive into the Catskill Mountains for a strenuous hike followed by a hearty meal in Woodstock.
The barn provides ideal alternative accommodations for guests coming to the area for workshops at the Omega Institute or the Culinary Institute of America, campus visits to either Bard College or Vassar or weddings at the areas many venues.

The family also uses the grounds when we are in residence so obviously respecting each others peace and quiet is important. There is no smoking in the barn but you can smoke out on the decks if you like.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Carriage House; all photos posted were completely accurate. It was so charming and really comfortable. And, the location is wonderful; just minutes in to Rhinebeck, which is fabulous and to all the other sites in the area we wanted to visit. We hated to leave! We would recommend it strongly to anyone.

I can't resist appropriating the words of another visitor because they capture this property perfectly: "wonderfully rustic while being supremely comfortable." I might add "luxurious" to the description. You arrive via a long dirt road and share the area with just a few homes along the way, arriving in a very private, wooded property, separate from the host's lovely home across the yard. Rolling lawns, a pond and lovingly-created gardens, plantings, sculpture make a perfect setting. If you are squeamish about being so far off the beaten path, without streetlights or traffic, this might not be for you but for us, it was an idyllic getaway. Make sure to get detailed directions for driving in from Route 9 south of the village. The barn/carriage house/guest house is light years beyond any barn renovation I've seen - though the spirit is preserved in the old wood beams and woodwork throughout. All of the design decisions made in converting it were carefully thought out and beautifully crafted featuring super beds, wonderful linens (my sheets were tangerine and the pure white towels were plentiful and lush!), ceiling fans, individually controlled heat, light neutral furnishings, good and numerous lighting fixtures, beautiful bathrooms with deep tubs with jacuzzis and wonderful European and American prints and artwork in both suites, the hallway and the stairwell. The mini-kitchen was cleverly hidden behind a doorway in the hall and was generously supplied with the basics for lazy mornings or an end-of-the-day glass of wine. The two suites are similarly generous in size, different and interesting in design (including the fact that one room has a small sofa that can be converted to a bed) but both are light and lovely and have their own balconies! Norah's place - despite its isolated location - is only 5 minutes from the great village of Rhinebeck. Many wonderful but casual restaurants, a lot of interesting shops (CVS is the only chain store in sight!) and Upstate Films, a super art movie house. Nearby towns and institutions (Bard College with its art museum and Gehry-designed concert hall, Innisfree, a Japanese garden, Hyde Park's Roosevelt Library and Vanderbilt Mansion, Poughkeepsie's Vassar College) make it a great launching pad for day trips. We have only two regrets: first, that Norah and her family were away during our stay and we didn't get to meet and thank them and second, that we were there too early in the year to experience the place with leaves on the trees and gardens in full bloom. I guess we will have to come back! Thank you, Norah and AirBnB!

Norah's converted barn is lovely! Very close to rhinebeck restaurants via short drive. We had a conference at the CIA and drove very easily from here. The two guest suites are perfect for two couples or two people traveling. A wonderful gem.

Norah is a laid-back host with a rustic and comfortable space. It's basically two large suites connected by a hallway. It'd be perfect for 2 couples, as each room has a deck, bathroom and locking door. In the middle of the rooms is a little coffee bar, fridge and microwave area. This was a nice touch although if you're looking to cook or grill, this isn't the place for you. Beds were comfy, wifi was pretty good, it was very close to town and Norah was very helpful. Be sure to ask her for directions/the precise address, as (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps led us astray. We'd love to go back and see the grounds/town when everything is green. Oh, there are no TVs, which we appreciated--and so will you! Thanks again Norah.

Beautifully decorated and comfortable rooms. Every detail has been provided with great care. Jacuzzi tubs were wonderful at the end of a day out in the cold. Wonderfully stocked and functionally coffee bar. Norah is very responsive and available.

Greetings! I live in Manhattan but my house in Rhinebeck is an important weekend touchstone for me. For nearly 10 years the renovation and restoration of this house and property has been a labor of love for me...a creative project that will never be completed and that I am pleased to be able to share with my guests. Among my myriad creative pursuits I am most passionate about gardening and eagerly anticipate the opening of each new fragrant blossom or the harvesting, preparing and eating of the crops that I grow. Don't be alarmed therefor, if in the summer months you stumble across me out in the grounds beneath a large hat, elegantly covered in dirt and sweat. You might assume I will be cranky laboring beneath the hot sun but I assure you I won't be...nothing makes me happier!!
