We offer a private room and bath at the only house on a 130 acre lake. Conveniently located minutes from New Brunswick Rt. 1 and the US border at Calais, Potters Lake is a peaceful destination from which to explore St. Andrews and the Fundy Isles.

We look forward to sharing our year-round lakeside home with you. Guests occupy the first floor bedroom with views of the lake and woods. There is one queen size bed with room for a child's cot (your 'Pack-n-Play' or our roll-away bed); private bath with shower.

Guests are welcome to make themselves comfortable on the first floor of the house. The large living room has two-story-high windows overlooking the lake and sunset views. On chilly evenings the fireplace will be blazing.

You are welcome to use the kitchen, gas BBQ, and laundry facilities.
The house is the only house on the lake. It has a private kilometer-long (half mile) lane. Bring your kayak, canoe, paddleboard, binoculars, camera, and explore the lake or just sit and relax.

Outdoors there is a fenced yard, and large deck off the kitchen with often-spectacular sunset views. The shoreline is lovely, with a wooden bench on a point jutting into the lake. Osprey, eagles, loons, and beavers are nearly daily visitors in the summer. Moose, otter, seasonal waterfowl and songbirds, and even an occasional bear might be seen. It's a shallow, rocky, spring-fed lake, and there's not much of a swimming beach, but you're welcome to try it at your own risk.

There is a TV in the house (not in the room) that can play DVD's and receives only PBS from Maine over the air (no cable).

This is our year-round home and we are usually on-site to greet guests and answer questions. We are happy to share a cup of coffee or glass of wine and assist with recommendations or show you around our lake. If you need something just ask, otherwise we'll respect your privacy. Iris, our 5 year old rescue dog, is friendly and quiet. She may be shy at first but as soon as you start petting her you'll have a dedicated friend. She enjoys the company and play of other dogs. Fair warning - she sheds and she's often wet (loves the lake).

Potters Lake House is ten minutes from St. Stephen, New Brunswick and the US border at Calais, Maine. The house is at the end of it's own private kilometer-long lane. It is not as remote as it feels, all services are nearby, and there's plenty to do.
We are:
8 kilometers (5 miles) from an excellent supermarket, liquor store, building center, diners, coffee shops, The 5 Kings Restaurant & Picaroons Brewhouse, and more in St. Stephen, New Brunswick.

10 kilometers (6.25 miles) from the US border at Calais, Maine (more shopping, including Walmart)

St. Andrews, New Brunswick - 38 kilometers (24 miles) about a half hour. World class dining (Rossmount Inn, Savour in Kingsbrae Garden, Europa), plus the famous Algonquin Resort, open to the public, with fine dining and a spectacular seaside golf course. St. Andrews also offers whale watching, Farmers' Market (Thursdays), artist galleries, and the Fundy Discovery Aquarium. Kingsbrae Garden is one of the top 10 public gardens in North America and one of our favorite places. St. Andrews is also full of fascinating historical sites including Ministers Island, the extraordinary 19th Century summer estate of Sir William Van Horne, the president and driving force behind the Canadian Pacific Railway.

Blacks Harbor - 63 kilometers (39 miles) 45 minutes, the car ferry to Grand Manan Island leaves from here several times a day. Grand Manan is a wondrous place full of spectacular views from its miles-long 200 foot cliffs. Grand Manan has small town charm with many inns and bed and breakfasts, restaurants, museums, and a very special lighthouse (Swallowtail) that has been lovingly restored and maintained by the community and is open to the public. The island is a birdwatchers' paradise and provides some of the best whale and seabird tours in the world on the Bay of Fundy.

You'll need a Passport if you are coming from the US, but the border crossing is usually quick with few lines. Check the Customs and Immigration webpages for both countries to makes sure you know what and how much you can and cannot bring across the border. There are limitations on alcohol, weapons, plants, etc. as you would expect.

We had a delightful two-night stay at the Potter's Lake house. Everything is exactly as described, including the incredible view of the lake from the back deck. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and, along with the bathroom down a short hallway, quite private. For breakfast, Cate provided a variety of cereals, breads, fruit, and even a homemade pumpkin pie. Cate set up a Wi-Fi hotspot; I was able to connect, but experienced frequent loss of signal. (There is a new cafe in nearby St. Stephen with free Wi-Fi and infinite patience.) After our daily sightseeing, we returned to the house, and relaxed on the deck with Cate, Iris and a proliferation of hummingbirds. It was very pleasant to read, knit (my wife), or just watch the lake.

Cate did an amazing job making us feel welcome on our stay! Unfortunately we didn't get to meet Bob as he was away with work but we hope to make the trip back and stay with them again! This was our first AirBnB experience and we couldn't have asked for a better host! Our stay was completely comfortable and waking up with a view of lake every morning was breath taking. We also were able to use the pedal boat that they have which made for a perfect way to watch the sunset. Can't wait to go back!

To be in a secluded house on a lovely lake with a wonderful host and a gentle dog is just about heaven! Cate made us feel right at home, provided baked goods and fruit and quiche, and generally spoiled us. We loved the peace and tranquility, but also the convenient distance to nearby towns. The room and house are extraordinarily comfortable, and it was difficult to leave. An added bonus for us was the opportunity to see wildlife of all sorts, from butterflies and hummingbirds, to eagles and a doe swimming across the lake. The feeders provided entertainment, so many different kinds of birds. We loved our time at Potter's lake! Cate could not have been a better or more welcoming host! We finally had some time with Bob on our last morning. Go to Potter's lake! You won't be sorry!

Bob and Cate are great hosts. And their dog is nice too. Their house directly at a beatiful lake is a perfect place to have a break and enjoy nature and silence. It is the only house at the lake! But still not far away from the towns. You can swim, paddle with a boat or just watch the beautiful nature around you. We loved the hummingbirds coming to the deck to drink. Absolutely recommended!

Cate and Bob met us in the yard and treated us like old friends who were coming for a visit. The site is fantastic with practically a private lake and all of the beauty and peacefulness that entails. Bob and Cate were very knowledgeable and helpful with suggestions of things to do in the area. We would definitely stay here again!

Cate is an elementary school teacher and Bob is a professional musician (solo guitar). We both grew up on islands off the coast of Maine which led us to each other and to years of interesting work (boat captain, marine wildlife research) and travel. These days we balance our time and work between two year-round homes: one on a solitary lake in New Brunswick, Canada, and, the other on the edge of Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island, Maine. Both are beautiful places for walking, watching wildlife, boating, relaxing with friends and family.
