Me and my housemate (beer maker) welcome you to a large private room with a double bed, dining table and office space. Free homemade craft beers included! Three extra single mattresses/sheets/sleeping pillows available for bigger groups.

- Because of our work (day + evening), we are not always home. Please send us a message to discuss check-in times BEFORE asking for a booking. Check-in on workdays never before 6pm.

Welcome to our creative apartment, where we spend our spare time brewing craft beers, upcycling furniture and receiving international travellers! We offer you a very large private room with a double bed, a dining table, a desk and a reading corner. Besides that, we offer each of our guests a free craft beer and an official USE-IT city guide that I wrote (in English!).

We offer over 10 years of experience in hosting international travellers and know all there is to know about what to do/see/eat/drink in Ghent.

If you want to come over with a bigger group, no worries. We have 3 extra bed mattresses (including sheets/blankets/pillows) for you to use, that we can put down on the floor in the room as well, there is more than enough space.

You share our kitchen with a gas stove, microwave and oven, our bathroom with a shower/bath, and there is free wifi. We can also do your laundry for you (2€)!

We can have as much or as little interaction as you want. We will hand you the USE-IT map and the house keys, and give you our personal tips on what to do/see/eat/drink in the city, from then on you can ask us as many questions as you want! We have our own private living room and bedroom, but if you need any tips or help, feel free to come knocking! My house mate is an expert in beer-brewing, I am an expert on the city, so we are the perfect knowledge pool for a great Belgian experience ;)

The room faces a main street and there is an increase of traffic during the evening/morning rush, but we have thick curtains to counter that. The house is built during the 1913 world expo and renovated in the 70's so don't be surprised by a few squeaky floorboards and doors.

- We have an elderly couple living below us, please respect them by not being loud, by taking off shoes when entering the apartment, and by keeping quiet when going up and down the communal staircase. Thanks guys!

Nils was a great host. Lots of local info and tips for where to go, and a complimentary beer which was perfect after a long day on the saddle. Room was in a central location and easy to get to the town centre. Would stay again!

One of the best Airbnb experiences! The room is just as described, very beautiful, well-decorated and clean. Location is also good, really close to the train station and took us less than 30 minutes walk to the center (plus it was a nice walk along the river!). Reynaert and his flat mate were very friendly and gave us some good local tips (& perfect home brewed beer). Will definitely stay here again when we visit Ghent!

Sadly, this was our first negative Airbnb experience. Five friends and I were on a cycle trip through Belgium. Unfortunately, we got lost in the town of gent and arrived late to check-in time, to find a note saying that they had left the city! They had tried to contact us, but we had problems with our phones abroad (as is common). There were a few things we had issues with on the evening: Firstly, the window to check-in was so narrow (from 6-8pm). Secondly, when messaging the evening before to ask about an earlier check-in time they neglected to mention that they were leaving the city. And thirdly, they did not leave a spare key anywhere or with anyone when they left the city, even though they knew we’d be arriving. Consequently we were made homeless, without any resolution or contingency provided. Despite the days accounts (which we are partly to blame), I think what we found most difficult was the response from them. Not only did they refuse any kind of refund, they also showed great animosity in the aftermath, even though we offered to come to reconciliation. They seemed unable to understand our circumstances, and appeared to take great pleasure in stereotyping and demeaning us. Communication has turned very unpleasant and unfortunately, we feel like the wonderful Airbnb spirit of community and humanity has been lost with these people. It seems like they are the type of hosts that tick just enough boxes to be in accordance with Airbnb rules, and forgot about the people behind the site. Nonetheless, perhaps in person their attitude may have been different, and unfortunately we cannot review the apartment as we never set foot inside. By the majority of reviews, it looks like things normally go to plan and when that happens these hosts appear accommodating. Perhaps we saw a nasty side that only comes out when things don’t go their way – we hope future guests will not have to experience this treatment.

I am so saddened to receive our first negative review after two years of overwhelmingly positive experiences, new friendships, and honest reviews that confirm our flexibility, hospitality and kind heart, especially when guests had emergencies and when things didn't go according to plan (which happens a lot and is always to be expected). It is exactly in those moments that I feel that my partner and I go way beyond the standard AirBnB hosting experience. As you can read in other reviews, we have stayed up till 3 in the morning to check-in guests whose flights were cancelled, we have had friends pick up guests who were stranded on the road, we have jumped on our bikes to catch up with guests who had forgotten their wallet, we have spent many occasions at the post office mailing passports & credit cards people forgot, we went to get breakfast for guests who were having a bad day, we have accepted homeless refugees and signed up to hosts people affected by the U.S. travel ban... Being a couchsurfing host for seven years and a full-time Refugee Housing Officer, we do not 'tick boxes' and do the minimum requirements. Instead we carry our love for hospitality, respect and equal treatment without prejudice, deep in our hearts. Because of our busy work schedules including evening shifts, unfortunately we can only offer guests a two hour check-in window during weekdays that is clearly communicated when guests book. Of course, when agreed on before booking or when guests warn us they have emergencies or unforeseen circumstances, we have, as you can see in other reviews, made many exceptions to these hours and always made sure guests had someone to welcome them. When Saul asked a day prior to arrival if he could check in at noon, we clearly communicated that because of work, we would only be home during check-in. The day of Saul's arrival I was key speaker at a Refugee conference in Brussels in the evening and was not coming back to Ghent. I admit that I had taken for granted that Saul would warn us, like other guests have always done, if he decided to come hours after check-in. Instead we waited around for three hours but saw no one, didn't get a message or call or mail. We started calling his first cellphone which turned out to be a U.S. number owned by a Spanish person. We then started calling his alternative number and two numbers of his friends. All phones kept ringing but no one was picking up. We contacted AirBnB and were on the phone for half an hour while they tried every means possible to reach them, but even they couldn't get in touch. We then jumped on our bicycles and spent half an hour cycling the train station and city centre, hoping to catch a glimpse of them. Our time was running out, we couldn't leave a spare key because we live in a city apartment with no front porch and we tried in vain to find last-minute friends who had a whole evening free to wait around for them to show up without knowing what time that would be. We felt horrible for having to leave the house without having seen them, thinking they had had some big emergency, so we called a friend's hostel and made sure they had rooms available, sent Saul the address, also put the number of the hostel and the AirBnB service on a note at the door. Basically, we definitely left them with a contingency plan. We then had to take an expensive taxi ride to Brussels because we had missed our train and they had put the conference on hold. At that time we were fully prepared to refund them, thinking they were not at fault. Finally at half ten at night, on our way to Brussels, Saul finally called us from the same number we had been trying to reach in vain. His battery was not empty. He was understandably upset that we weren't home but then said they were late because they had decided to have drinks in the centre to celebrate a birthday and didn't look at their phones. We had 'ruined their celebration'. We asked them why they didn't simply warn us with a text message, a short call, anything to give us an idea of what was going on so we could at least get a friend to be home when they would show up. We explained how we were left with no options and no communication and were out of options. Saul said he expected us to be home after check-in, that it was simply part of our job as hosts to expect the unexpected. He proceeded to call us inflexible, entitled, inhospitable, disrespectful, passed the phone to another friend who continued to talk us down, ... it was all too much for us and admittedly struck us where it hurt the most. We told them where to find our friend's hostel and urged them to call AirBnB for a resolution, but later on we learnt that they went to a different hostel and of course payed full price. No idea why... The day after he messaged us asking a full refund in return for not leaving us a negative review. Buying people off goes against everything we stand for as AirBnB hosts and thus I invited them to give us an honest review, that I would always accept. I'm a bit sad that he chose to use that opportunity to slander our personalities without having met us and knowing to what lengths we went to try to get in touch with them. Another day later they messaged us again with a different story about how all five of their phones were empty (which they weren't, he even called us) and that they were 1,5 hours late because they were lost on their bike, which is incredibly unlikely seeing as we live 10 minutes by bike from the centre on the only main exit south of the city. In the end, AirBnB backed our decision to use their deposit to partly cover our taxi costs, given their admittance to knowing about the check-in time, their conscious decision not to show up on time, without warning us despite ample time and opportunity to do so. We have also learned our lesson from this and have added to our listing description that our check-in time is flexible only if we make agreements before booking or if guests notify us of problems. We hope this unfortunate experience was a one and only thing, and we will continue to carry out our passion for hospitality. We hope that Saul and everyone else in the AirBnB community, both hosts and guests, show each other the respect they want to receive in return, can communicate with honesty, and will never take each other for granted.

Place was great, our only regret was that we didn't stay longer, we hope to be back soon. Highly recommended!

Mooie grote kamer op een fijne locatie. Contact, ontvangst en service waren super. Zeker een aanrader! Alleen een beetje een hard bed naar mijn mening, maar het gratis, zelfgebrouwen biertje maakte alles goed! Bedankt mannen!
