Beautiful and classic 1926 Maine cottage. Our house was a former inn and still retains all of the original details. Four bedrooms, sleeps 8. Perfect for a family or a group of friends getting together for a reunion. The house has a warm living room with lots of old furniture and a fireplace for chilly evenings. We've recently screened-in the porch, expanding its usabilty in the evenings. This is a really special house.
Our house is located in Brooklin, Maine. Brooklin is located on a peninsula in Penobscot Bay, in a region known as Down East Maine. It is close to the towns of Blue Hill, Castine, Brooksville, Ellsworth, and Mt. Desert Island, home to Acadia National Park. There is lots to do in the area, including sailing, hiking, kayaking, camping, antiquing, or just sitting on the porch reading a book and enjoying the peace and quiet.
Brooklin is also know as the "boat building capital" of the world, because of the large number of wooden boat builders in town. Wooden Boat magazine is located here, and also operates a boat-building school in town. The Brooklin Boat Yard, is one of the foremost wooden boat-builders in the world, and there are many beautiful wooden boats built by them and other in the harbor.
Brooklin also has a rich literary history and is where E.B. White wrote Charlotte's Web. Many contemporary writers and artists call the area home.
