A modestly restored two bedroom miner's cottage in the heart of the tiny village - Eldorado. A tranquil escape featuring modern facillity kitchen, quaint bathroom and laundry and comfy lounge with open fire. Explore the rich history, natural surrounds, 5 food and wine regions, bike trails and 20 min drive to Wangaratta, 25 mins to Beechworth or Milawa and easy walk to the Tavern and General Store.

The cottage is an original 1800s, modestly restored miner’s cottage in the middle of its transformation. The cottage is situated in the heart of Eldorado. It was once used as a baker's store to sell bread that was baked in the backyard in the brick commercial baking oven. The historic Scotch oven is available to view.

Inside there are two tastefully dressed queen size bedrooms with soft comfy mattresses. There is a single bed in the small sitting room, which is a walk-through spare room, not really private- think of it as a permanent spare bed. Please view photos and read description to aid in telling the story.

There are two sitting/lounge rooms, one with an open fire, TV, DVD player, games, quality magazines and spare blankets for those colder nights.

The cottage has one bathroom (with bathtub) and separate shower. There are two toilets, one in the bathroom and one in the laundry.

A modern kitchen which features a non-operating authentic IXL wood-fired stove.

Enjoy log fires in the winter, air-conditioning in the summer and lazy days on the verandah. There is a portable NOBO heater in addition to the reverse cycle heating.

There are walks along the creek within minutes from home: see native wildlife; enjoy a stroll across the Swing Bridge; visit the Gold Dredge and the Eldorado Museum. Walk up Monument Hill. Bring your bike and ride the Rail Trails to Beechworth, Bright or Wangaratta. Enjoy the peace and tranquility as well as our small community’s country hospitality.

The Tavern is a short walk of about 300 ms. Closest large town Wangaratta central, 25 mins by car; closest Rail Trail Station 5 mins by car; closest Winery 15 mins by car. I am happy, when possible, to pick you up from either the train station or Albury or Wangaratta airport if you are coming without a car.

Find out how to pan for gold in the creek just like the prospectors have done for over 100 years at the El Dorado Museum. Check out the Pottery just down the lane to see a third generation potters work.

Please park on Main Street, just outside the picket fence. The small picket gate under the hedge is the entrance to the correct doorway. There are five doors to the cottage. Only this one with the bell on the lattice will be opened ready for your arrival.

The key will be left for you on the bench. You may leave the key on the bench without locking up when you leave.

Guests are welcome to use the laundry facilities and second toilet, however this is a shared space.

Phone and mobile reception is limited, however if you have a Telstra phone you may be able to pick up messages and take calls in certain spots, please ask about reception before booking.

It is incredibly helpful to give me a realistic time of arrival and to update me with any changes along the way, thank you.

Interazione con gli ospiti

If I am home, I am happy to greet and converse with my guests and they are welcome to seek out my company for all the news and local knowledge about the region. However, I am equally happy if hibernation is the aim of the stay, I totally get the need for space. Guests have complete privacy in separate accommodation accept for the laundry, which is on the very rear of the cottage, which I use rarely while guests stay. There is a privacy lock on the inside laundry door for your convenience.
There is a printed guide on the buffet as to a few good places to eat while you stay and how long it will take to drive.

Altre cose da evidenziare

Please note that the cottage is an old store and therefore is on the road, there is no fencing from two of the house exits. It is an adult environment, it may not suit some families, however I have had lots of families stay.
If you have an infant using your own travel cot there is no charge. I do not have any infant gear, so byo by all means and baby proof the cottage to suit your child's stage of development.
Phone and mobile reception is limited, however if you have a Telstra phone you may be able to pick up messages and take calls in certain spots, please ask about reception before booking.
I have found that most people love to switch out during their stay and pick up messages when they go on their discovery adventures to Beechworth and surrounds.
I also am happy for urgent calls and emails etc to be done with my phone and internet if I'm home.

The water comes from the original town well. It is drawn up 30 ft with an electric pump. If the power goes off, the pump will not run, therefore the water will not be available. Please refer to notes on arrival at the cottage for details on what to do.
The hot water uses bottled gas to heat. If in the event it runs out, please ask for assistance to switch over the gas bottle.
I have great neighbours who are also quiet and friendly. Please remember quietly respect my neighbours with no noise after 10pm.
Simple breakfast supplies are included in your stay with some eggs, bread, butter, a litre of milk to get you going, a little fruit and veg. You are welcome to view and enjoy the bake house itself, please do not light a fire in the oven. It is a bit of an operation to get it going, besides smoking yourselves out, it will take three days to become a useful oven for heating or making meals. An awesome cottage with a warm & friendly host. The cottage is in a quiet town where you can wind down, away from the city pace, yet still feel like you're in your own home. Everything has been thought of and it's those thoughtful touches that make a stay memorable. We also had our space & privacy but also able to spend some time with Sandy to learn more about the place. We hope we can come back again soon. Thank you once again Sandy

Sandy is a very warm and accommodating host. She gives you her time if you need her... it's a private getaway and so lovely and quiet.... the birds in the morning were gorgeous. The house feels like you are in a home away from home.. thanks Sandy :)

You read reviews and often wonder how accurate they are, well Sandy did not dissappoint. Such beautiful small touches and we felt so welcome. Even if your trip is to Wangaratta, highly reccommend staying a little bit futher out here because it is a wonderful experience. Enjoy!

My biggest passions lay in and around creativity, friends and family.
Recently finishing up my wine tour business I am now focused on producing a book about the old Scotch Ovens and related history.
I have a passion for photography. I am by no means a professional, however I love where the camera can take me, a place of solitude and peace. Photography gave me renewed energy and perspective on life after life threatening health issues.
I have spent the last four years slowly improving the cottage with some modest renovations and a little gardening. Still a little way to go, but that's half the fun. I have lots of little projects on the go.
I enjoy coming home to Eldorado, it is such a restful place to be.
Well within 1 hours drive from Eldorado there are five wine regions with local produce and wines.
I have had a second chance at life and cherish every moment, you never know when your life will be complete here.
I hope you find some rest, respite and relaxation while you're here.
