Charming, newly renovated apt. in once-grand colonial 1940s block. Enjoy breezy rooftop views from your balcony overlooking the leafy, bustling Central Market precinct. An authentic Phnom Penh experience with all the mod cons.

L'alloggio

A charming blend of old and new: we've kept the original tiles and shutters, but opened up the space and put in a skylight. You'll find traditional, new wooden floors in bathroom and kitchen, a whitewashed brick bar and a big comfy bed.

You'll enjoy all the mod cons and it's all yours - aircon, wifi, cable TV (some 100+ channels), rainshower, ceiling fans, washing machine, full stove and oven, toaster, kettle and great security. Also basic kitchen essentials and bathroom amenities.

Our trusted tuk tuk driver can meet you at the airport or station for a small fee you'll pay directly to him, help with bags and let you in. Or make your own way there and we'll organise key handover. There's an info pack inside too, to help you get around. Then we'll leave you to your own devices. But don't hesitate to call us for advice or help during your stay.

Right in the heart of town, yet in a leafy area that's home to families and small businesses. Built for mid-level foreign public servants in the early 1940s, the whole precinct is alive with noodle shops, hairdressers, mom 'n pop convenience stores and of course the famed yellow Central Market. yet just round the corner are banks, pharmacies, restaurants and 5 minutes to the Riverside. We love this place - not too touristy but with everything you need to enjoy your stay.

Tuk tuks, cyclo, taxis and motodops abound. But we think you'll love to walk the area. So much to see and an excellent spot for photgraphers!

This is an old, family-occupied building, so though all three entrances are a very shabby, they're safe and well used. Our neighbours are friendly and welcoming. If you need basics like water, phone cards and snacks, there's a small kiosk right on the roof, just steps away from your front door.

A note on wifi: like many parts of Phnom Penh the wifi is occasionally patchy: Sunday evenings and big thunderstorms seem can somehow be a problem. If you're not getting an ok signal, try switching on/off. This works 90% of the time. Otherwise it might just need an hour or so to get back on track.

Marianne knows Cambodia well having lived there for nearly 10 years, so she has some great recommendations. She also has a beautiful shop with some lovely souvenirs which I'd certainly recommend. The flat is on a residential street and the adventurous side of you will be suitably satisfied! Thanks for everything.

A great space in a central location. Marianne is extremely responsive and arranged for a driver to meet us at the airport. Yes the stairs are grim but we always felt perfectly safe and the neighbours are very friendly. Would definitely recommend.

There are 80 steps on the staircase leading to the house. The climb to the house can be described as 'Cambodia in a stairwell'. It's dirty and dark yet the smiles of the residents you pass along the way light up your spirits. The smells can be a bit overpowering at one moment and exotic at the next. But all said and done when you arrive at where you set out to reach, it is never disappointing. It's a beautiful house in a lively quarter in Phnom Penh. Walking distance from the buzzing riverside, museum, palace, night market, central market and old market. A great neighborhood to walk around and discover something new every time you step out. The air conditioning in the living and bed room is refreshing after a day out in the hot Cambodian sun and you don't at any moment feel at loss of any amenity. You're well taken care of in the house. The pictures do give you a sense of the treat you are in for. So don't hesitate to book if you're looking for a local city experience without compromising on the comforts. Marianne is also an extremely talented designer and entrepreneur and a visit to her studio, Trunkh, will make you spoilt for choice for some extremely cool souvenirs to carry back a bit of Cambodia with you. Happy travelling :)

Risposta di Marianne:
Dear Roshan, Sometimes those 80 steps feel like 800! But it is its own little world once you get up there. Thanks so much for your wonderful review, and the shout out for trunkh. I'm so sorry I couldn't be there to welcome you. Come back any time. x

We had a great time here in Phnom Penh. Marianne is a perfect host and her apartment is really a place to feel at home! Marianne organized a tuk tuk who picked us up at the bus station, the check in was very easy and Marianne provided us plenty of infos and places to go in Phnom Penh. The apartment is located near central market and you will live side by side with locals what we enjoyed from the very beginning. It feels like being part of that amazing city. Thank you Mary for this amazing experience!

Husband and I truly enjoyed our stay. Two blocks to central market, and Marianne provided great suggestions for food and shops around the city.

I've a background in journalism, advertising and creative direction. I've been living in Cambodia since 2007, where I met my husband, who is a chef. I now write a weekly column for a local arts paper, and run the country's first lifestyle shop - we travel the countryside looking for old signs, odd objects and things we love about Cambodia.
We love to travel and eat, and I'm an avid amateur photographer. Phnom Penh is the perfect place to come home to - so much to see, and the food is fantastic.
When you come to our place, you'll find a list of all our favourite places and secret spots for the best food and things to do off the beaten track.
But be careful though, Phnom Penh has a way of getting under your skin and making you fall in love :)
