Lo spazio
Located just 15 minutes walking distance from the Bremerton Ferry dock this little vintage/rustic/modern farmhouse is where the heart is! Walk right into this “pleasant” newly renovated 1912 cottage with a large living room warmed by a cozy electric fireplace. A downstairs Master bedroom, spacious kitchen with European butcher block countertops, plus a full bathroom with a European toilet and showerhead are all on the main level. Upstairs, you will find two additional bedrooms! This little cottage is full of character, inspired by Chip and Joanna Gaines’ fixer-upper show. All of its imperfections have been DIY by me (feel free to giggle at my novice wallpapering/painting techniques!) Outside is a front porch perfect for sipping hot cider on cool autumn evenings or sip on ice tea on a hot summer day. The detached garage is for your car and there is a fenced backyard. In the future, I will be putting in stock tanks for a whole produce garden so my guests may be able to pick their own organic produce from, have a fresh salad for dinner (I have my own garden at my primary home). Wouldn’t that truly feel like a farm in the suburbs?

After a year and a half of blood, sweat, and tears doing a ton of remodeling and under so much stress, this newly renovated 1912 cottage is finally open to the public! In December 2019, I purchased this little fixer-upper. I was given the estimate of completion date to be done within 3 months -- until the pandemic hit as well as several not-so-great contractors were on board and had to be let go, delaying the opening date. The stress. If only I had the time to create videos to post online about my journey, I would have done so. This rustic cottage is nothing but perfect.

In 2020, I took on not only working overtime at the hospital, volunteering to help more, I was also juggling completing my second Bachelor’s degree (I completed a degree in Neurodiagnostics and Sleep Sciences through UNCC) while at the same time, any moment I had, I was also at the “cottage” working on the home. I can proudly say that I put up all the wallpaper myself (don’t look too closely, you’ll see all the imperfections!) and painted all the interior walls myself (with the help of a friend, here and there). This cottage is nothing but perfect, as you will see. If only you saw and experienced seeing the before and after pictures — there was a lot of demolition going on, walls being taken down, even the bathroom was knocked down. In time I’ll create my own website to showcase the before and after pictures. Every imperfection is because I DIY-ed myself, and well, it is a 100 plus-year-old home that needs much ongoing work. Just when I think I’m done, there something else I want to do to that home. I designed the cottage myself, using most of Chip and Joanna Gaines Magnolia's decor and not to mention daily obsession of Pinterest staring. Are you familiar with their fixer-upper shows? I don’t have tv and didn’t even know about them until I discovered them through a friend who had their cookbooks. I love their style and personality; I wanted this cottage to sort of have the same farmhouse black and white theme. I envisioned designing this cute little cozy cottage myself, asking friends their own thoughts as well. It's rustic, modern, vintage all in one. Downstairs it's a more vintage/rustic farmhouse, while upstairs, it's more of a modern farmhouse feel. So come visit my cottage!

The decor:

Most of the decor was bought from Magnolia.com, Wayfair.com, Target, Home Goods, Lowe’s, and Home Depot, as well as some were thrifted. All appliances are brand new Samsung! Feel free to ask; I’ll let you know where I bought my items. Because I am in sleep medicine and love my sleep, I am spoiling you with organic 100% cotton sheets from Target. I am all about breathable sheets, avoiding any kind of synthetic bed sheets against my skin when I sleep.

The outside of the cottage is still under renovation, needing to do more painting and landscaping — in time. Your funds will be providing me to go back to school, to help society teach better health as well as helping to renovate this cottage. So thank you in advance!

I hope you like the way I designed my home. I am no expert, as you can see. My main gig is teaching sleep medicine (going back to school AGAIN, this time for a Master’s in Public Health/Dietician in hopes of completing my book on sleep/nutrition). If anything, I may be an expert and know-how to get good sleep — the answer is not juggling so much, as I have this past few years! Please feel free to give me constructive feedback as I am always looking to becoming a better host. After all, I help patients get the best sleep at the sleep lab, so running an Airbnb is sort of in the same job description. I just won’t watch you sleep! Haha. I do also run another Airbnb in my own primary home. Check out my other Airbnb sites if you are in the area of University Place.

The Rooms...

The Sheep Room: located downstairs.
While I work my night shifts, I use this room as my home base to sleep during the day, usually on Thursday and/or Friday days. Please excuse my things being there.

The Cow Room: located upstairs.
Enjoy my favorite room. I absolutely enjoy the bold wallpaper. It’s girly but at the same time, the cow makes the room dramatic.
Feel free to use the rower.

The Horse Room: located upstairs.
I have had so many visitors stating they love this cute little room. The black bench converts to an exercise bench. Feel free to use it.

I'm the youngest child of two older brothers, raised by my brothers and father. Should that sum me up? The dare-devil, adventure-seeking, tomboy (however, my daughters have tapped into my girly-girl side), born and raised in Hawaii. Lived here in Washington for many years. Attended WSU. I snowboard, snowshoe, rock climb, cross-country ski, surf, scuba dive, hike…basically anything adrenaline rushing doing it outdoors being challenged and laughing out loud at myself (and my daughters -- I mean, why did we have kids? haha). If I'm not on a mountain, or down under the water, I'm enjoying adventure at home, delving into any kind of domestic hobby there is. From baking the impossible French croissants from scratch, to conjuring up the best chocolate chip cookie, to seeing if I can knit a beanie via youtube. My high in life is watching others smile, even if its trying my foods saying, "Is it good? Is it good? I need more feedback!" Or giving my hand knit beanies to friends, saying, "I made that sh*&^%t!". I also recently started my own Etsy account if you're interested: "soylattesandknits". You'll see a ton of my obsessive knitting designs online…and well, in my own home. Anything bought, I always wonder how much money it would cost if I made it my own. I'm that girl who enjoys recycling, thrift store shopping, being earth friendly (no comment about my Ford truck, yikes!). I'm also in patient care as well and grew up in customer service in a family owned business, so hosting AirB&B is sort of chump change when you already have a Doctorate's in Motherhood. Haha! My first AirB&B guests, I was like "This is weird. I always have friends over, but to charge them money this time??" Entertaining/hosting, I believe has always been natural to me -- did hula competions and bank commercials as a kid. Ah, youngest children... 5 things I can't live without: my daughters, dark chocolate, oatmilk lattes, chocolate chip cookies, and as much as I can carry on a conversation, I enjoy lots and lots of quiet time. Countries I’ve been to: -Phillipines -Japan -Canada -Germany -France -Italy -Switzerland -Iceland -Austria -Spain -England -Netherlands -Sweden -Norway -Denmark -Czech Republic -Finland -New Zealand -Australia -Portugual -Ireland States I’ve been to: -Washington (duh!) -Hawaii (duh!) -Oregon -California -Idaho -Colorado -Arizona -Arkansas -Utah -Nevada -New Mexico -Oklahoma -Kentucky -Texas -Louisiana -Alaska -Florida -Alabama My motto in life: You are who you are from and through other people... Solo Female Traveler? I’ve traveled to over ten countries solo so I know how scary it can be! But I have the most fun in my home (domestic godess —eh, em’! Haha.) as well as when I’m on holiday. Welcome to my home. I will make sure you feel safe in my home. Need recommendations on what to do around the area? Need a buddy to hang out with? I know a lot about outdoor Washington state. Depending on my schedule (just message me, I’m usually free on Sunday, Mondays and Tuesdays), I can take you along my adventures: snowboarding, skiing, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, stand-up paddle boarding, hiking, biking, ferry boat ride to other islands, exploring the city, even yoga sessions at a studio in Seattle! For a negotiated fee of my time (and smiles) I can take you places, take pictures/videos of you using my Canon DSLR 80D/Go Pro/cell phone and upload it to a USB (fee also negotiable), capturing moments to show-off, rather share (Haha!) with your family and friends. I can teach you too snowboard too! I used to be a volunteer outdoor recreation helper and heck, my daughters will tell you we couldn’t sit still every weekend, they were my side kick outdoor buddies — they are now at that age they can tell you how many hikes, snowshoeing, rock climbing, snowboarding, biking days we covered, even played hooky to play outside with mom! I have a season’s pass to Crystal Mountain Ski Resort and Timberline/Mount Hood, Oregon if you want to ski/snowboard and can get you a discount — just ask! Travel Time from my University Place home: From/To Airport: 47 mins via vehicle (at around 4 p.m. to 6 p.m during the weekdays, there may be heavy traffic, to warn you) To Mount Rainer (hiking, site-seeing): 1 hour and 28 minutes via vehicle. To Seattle (city exploring): 58 minutes via vehicle. To the World Famous Chamber’s Bay Golf Club (golfing): 4 minutes via vehicle or just walk! To Crystal Mountain Ski Resort (ski/snowboard): 1 hour 54 minutes via vehicle. To The Summit at Snoqualmie Ski Resort (ski/snowboard): 1 hour 22 minutes via vehicle. To Timberline/Mount Hood, Oregon Ski Resort (ski/snowboard): 3 hours and 36 minutes via vehicle. I’d be happy to do a day trip, leave my home at 5 a.m. and get back to my home by 8 p.m. If you’d like I can take you to Portland and the surroundings via my “uber” as well. Just negotiate a fee with me! Activities I offer/teach and you can rent gear from me (fee negotiable); I ask that you sign a waiver making sure you are healthy enough and understand you are at your own risk! Winter Sports: -Snowshoeing -Cross-country skiing -Snowboarding -Skiing Fall/Spring/Summer: -Hiking -Biking Spring/Summer: -Stand-up-Paddle Boarding (right down the street from me!) -Surfing (I usually head to La Push or West Port about 2 hour drive to there) I’m also a member at The Grinning Yogi in Seattle: join me if you want. I can get a discount for you! Vegan or Vegetarian? (I will start serving them post pandemic, 2022; so sorry!) Well you’re up my alley — me too! My travel to Australia brought me to discover vegan energy balls. They shun Starbucks there and with your coffee, they serve energy balls. I have conjured up my own superfoods vegan energy balls recipe (my colleagues and first guinea pig Airbnb guest loved them, she helped herself to more than 2! Haha!) and would love to serve them with my famous cafe’ latte for a light breakfast. It has nuts in them and some energy balls are gluten free — do let me know ahead of time if you are allergic and I’ll conjure up something else! I’ll message you the ingredients if you wish.
