Come explore Acadia National Park and one of the most beautiful islands in Maine. This one bedroom apartment is on the first floor of a fully renovated 150 year old barn. We are conveniently located in the historic town of Somesville, at the very center of Mount Desert Island. We are a 10 to 15 minute drive to Bar Harbor and a 10 minute drive to Southwest Harbor on the other side of the island. You can walk to the Somesville library, a small history museum and Somes Harbor landing. The apartment is attached to our house but has its own entrance and parking. A Queen bed in the separate bedroom and a twin daybed with a trundle bed in the living area can sleep up to 4 guests - perfect for a small family, a couple or a few friends. The daybed doubles as the couch during the day. All linens are included. The kitchen area has all you need to cook your own meals on your trip as well as a washer and dryer. The small bathroom off the bedroom has a shower. A small, sunny outdoor space is a comfortable spot to sit in the sun or have a meal. We do not have a TV, but you can use our Wifi at no charge. The free Island Explorer bus can stop right in front of the house and take you to many locations in the National Park and around the island. We are located on a busy main street with a 25mph speed limit which has some traffic noise during the day but is generally quite quiet at night. We love our home and we hope that this space can be a comfortable retreat from which to explore everything Acadia and Mount Desert Island has to offer.
Just a a few house rules we take very seriously - NO animals, NO SMOKING anywhere on the property and quiet after 10pm.
All guests have access to a small, cozy backyard with chairs, and a nice rocky beach, great for picnics, and swimming.
NO SMOKING anywhere on premises, NO pets, quiet after 10 pm.
The house was just as described, very clean and private. The location is perfect for exploring the whole island. Emily made us feel welcome and addressed our only concern quickly. This was much better than trying to stay at a hotel on the island, in our opinion- it was nice to have the kitchen and the extra room.
Emily's barn was the perfect base for exploring all MDI has to offer. We found the property as represented - nice, tidy and clean. It was a great fit for our family of 2 adults, 1 teenager and a 5yo. Being able to park directly in front of the property eased coming and going and walking down to the private beachfront was a nice plus. Emily sent us a nice email before we arrived packed with good info of her personal favorites. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend the property to others.
Nice little appartment . Clean, good beds, great books and tips on Acadia available. Central location. The only downside for us was the location closd to the road.
Emily's place was exactly as described. It was very clean and cozy. My wife and I loved it there and would definitely recommend to anyone looking to go to Acadia. Great location! we were literally 10 min. from anywhere we wanted to go. Emily recommended some great places to go and they all turned out to be excellent. We were very happy with our stay and would go back in an instant.

Our host made us feel welcome by providing coffee and some basic cooking essentials, such as oil, vinegar, salt, and pepper. She also stocked the bathroom with organic shampoo and lotion. I loved that Emily provided beach towels for our use.
The apartment was cozy. When I booked this property, I didn't realize that it was on a major thoroughfare for the island. The road noise was loud during the day, but quieted down at night.
We had an awesome stay at Emily's airbnb. The converted barn is lovely and comfortably accommodated our family.
The best part about this airbnb is it's location. Let's be honest, if you're on MDI, the last thing you want to do is sit around - there's too much to explore. Emily's converted barn is in (my opinion) the perfect location. Only .3 miles to the scenic and much photographed Somesville white bridge, minutes to Southwest Harbor or Bar Harbor. Getting into Acadia National park is very easy, and you will be on the "right side" of Bar Harbor to avoid much of the traffic. There are also a bunch of other places really conveniently located from Emily's barn that are less off the beaten path (I highly recommend Seawall and Wonderland, and a ferry over to Swan's Island is highly, highly recommended).
Emily will have clean fresh towels, coffee in the barn's kitchen, and advice on her own best eating, swimming, and hiking spots for you. There are plenty of books and local guides of the area for you to read up on your next day's adventure.
We definitely enjoyed our stay and will be back again soon.
My wife and I enjoyed our one-week stay at Emily's house. We were positively impressed by the cleanliness of the property and Emily's respect for our privacy. Its closeness to major attractions in the Acadia NP made it a perfect launch pad for our hiking trips as well.

A local resident of Mount Desert Island for 15 years. I love the area we live in and am happy to recommend places to eat or things to do. This is our second year doing AirBnB and I'm excited to help people have a great vacation here.
