This is a place to comfortably really get away. No internet, no TV no city noise, hardly a car passes by. The house is well thought out for guests and is filled with loving care.

The setting was truly extraordinary. Rural, quaint, peaceful, quiet, a naturalist's paradise. Yet the drive to Gettysburg was a mere 18 minutes on country roads. If you want to tour the battlefields and then retreat to the perfect place to reflect and quietly process such a profound experience, Sally's is ideal. Taneytown itself was easy to navigate, easy to gas and supermarket. If you are looking for a place for spiritual retreat, Sally's is ideal. Comfortable, cozy, safe. Sally arrived to greet me with flowers for the vases, the best eggs I've ever enjoyed, jam, homemade bread, coffee, and fresh apples. Her communication was great and all info was accurate, including the perfect directions. Probably the best sense I can give you of Sally's is that I was a woman travelling alone and I didn't even lock the doors at night. And before I went to bed I stood outside and filmed the dark -- because the sounds of nature were like a song. I love to visit Gettysburg and now that I've stayed at Sally's I'll never stay anywhere else again. (On an esoteric note: if you're a friend of Bill W.'s, the Taneytown folk were SO friendly and very easy to find!)

We had a truly lovely stay at this quiet and cosy retreat. The privacy, indoor and outdoor porches, and meditation area allowed us to relax and feel as if we were in another world. The transformation was instantaneous. Meeting Sally upon arrival set the stage for complete enjoyment of the home. She is a sweet presence full of warmth and welcome. She sang as she put last minute touches on the home and I was delighted. Sally recommended the Carriage House for dinner in Emmitsburg. The food was good and a woman played piano medleys reminiscent of our childhoods. It could not have been a better experience. In the evening, the sounds of the frogs and view of the horizon, pond and trees combined to take us back in time to a peace found only in a country setting. The morning doves, geese, and a blue heron added to the ambience the next morning. We had fresh eggs and tomatoes for breakfast with homemade bread and assorted fresh jams. Delicious! The home is cozy and lovely, and we enjoyed its meditative atmosphere. We will return, as well as offer the recommendation to others.

My wife and I spent a pleasant weekend in a very quiet setting. If you want to get away from the noise and pressure of city life to relax, this is the place. Sally met us at her house and showed us around and pointed out the various amenities. She then left us on our own to enjoy the place, but was always within a phone call if we needed anything. Thank you for a nice stay.

Sally was a wonderful host! She met us when we arrived and gave us a tour of the property. She thought of everything: from tourist information for Gettysburg to making homemade bread and jams for breakfast. Her home is nestled on a beautiful property surrounded by open fields. Thank you Sally for being such a gracious host!

Sally met me as planned and showed me around the house. We really did not have an opportunity to visit so I did not get to know her on this trip. However, that was perfect as I was spending 10 days in Gettysburg and MD collecting information and experiences for a book I am writing. The location of her house was perfect as I made side trips to Frederick and Emmittsburg, Westminster and Washington DC as well as Gettysburg. The drive to her home and farm was through beautiful countryside with meandering roads and green hills and trees and fields everywhere. It was gorgeous and a good place to relax at the end of my day. I was surprised at the space, much larger and more private than I expected from her ad. I had the whole first floor of her home and spent most of my time on an open deck overlooking the meadows. Deer visited morning and evening, frogs serenaded me at night and I was rewarded with the best firefly (we called them lightning bugs when I was a kid!) light show I have ever seen. The house was quite musty on day one but I opened windows and it was great after that, well maintained and clean and everything I needed in bedroom and bath. Refrigerator has no working freezer so no ice cream for me but this place was so mellow and beautiful it really didn’t even matter. It is a “primitive” setting: no TV, internet, dishwasher, microwave and I lost bars on my phone frequently during calls. I knew this going in and wanted a totally unplugged experience and it worked really well for me. Just be prepared for a different way of living and allow yourself to drift back to another time where everything is more simple. I loved it. There was a wonderful cat who kept me company outside on the deck and would join me for walks around the land. I forgot her name so I called her “Baby” and she didn’t seem to mind! Exactly what I wanted and more than I expected. It was a good place to get centered and assimilate all the people and events and feelings that flowed through my travels and days. Would love to stay here when I return to Gettysburg next summer. Thank you, Sally. Pat Sayer Vancouver, WA
