Ground floor of stately 1870’s house on quiet, tree lined street a short walk to major shopping, entertainment and dining. Spacious interior combines original architectural features, antique and modern furniture with contemporary art. Great kitchen.
It's a very handsome well maintained historical building located in the centre of Montreal's vital social and cultural core. The interior is gracious and comfortable. I'm an avid cook so the kitchen is fully equipped as a convenient and attractive work space. The 1200 sq. ft living space is well laid out with a large Master Bedroom containing an early 19th century mahogany armoire and an oak double 'Nova Scotia Boat Bed'. The second bedroom has a single bed, a large desk and walls lined with bookshelves.
I particularly enjoy the contrast between the historical architecture and furnishings and the contemporary art on many of the walls.
Guests will have access to the full apartment; however, there will be some objects left in one of the closets. In the spring and summer, the back garden with BBQ and patio dining space are very pleasant. In the winter the occasional snowman is made.
Interazione con gli ospiti
Unfortunately, I will be out of the country but a colleague will be here on guest arrival to provide keys, answer any questions and establish communication should other questions arise during the guests' stay. A 'femme de ménage', Madame Viveros, will clean the apartment weekly
Location, location, location. Walk a couple of blocks in one direction and you can be strolling along the tree lined edge of a small lake in the Parc Lafontaine; a few blocks in another direction and you are in 'Party Central' that includes the vibrant gay village, then turn west to the Quartier Latin – the student quarter with its bistros, cinemas, coffee shops and music venues. On from there and you'll likely bump into Chinatown, then Old Montreal's cobblestone streets, restaurants and galleries or the Quartier de spectacles and its non stop array of performance and art shows. Of course there are restaurants, bars, shopping etc. all along the way.
Un giro nei dintorni
Less than two blocks away from the house is the main hub for all the city's subway (called Metro) lines and around the corner from there is the central terminal for interurban buses and for the regular direct buses to and from the airport. There is one assigned parking spot in the small lot at the back of the house but between walking and public transit, cars shouldn't be needed much.
Altre cose da evidenziare
I have limited mobility so I have made sure the apartment is handicapped friendly. There is wheelchair and mobility scooter access from both the front and rear doors. The bathtub/shower has security hand grips as well as a shower bench.
The kitchen is very well stocked with spices, herbs, nuts, dried fruit etc. and within reason guests are welcome to use them; just replace anything that runs out.
Smoking is acceptable sitting at the dining room table and using the blue ashtrays but not in the bedrooms or sitting on the white couch in the living room. The blue ashtrays are particularly effective in assuring that lit cigarettes do not fall out (an ex-smoker knows).

As well as the reading, research, attendance at films and live performances etc. required by my work, I enjoy: cooking (and have small and extensively equipped kitchen); contemporary visual arts (and have a modest eclectic collection); gardening (mostly flowers, herbs, edible greens and small fruit) in a backyard garden.
I travel a fair amount for my work mostly in Europe.
